"A Flare in the Dark"
New art by me! An Obito-centric comic. 10 pages. The amazing @butter--peanut kindly polished my doujin script to perfection. She's wonderful. 'Nuff said 💕 Check out her stories! I dedicate this doujin to all who are struggling with their inner hell. Who are mired in grief or despair. Who think they are a lost cause.

Much love to all ❤️ P. S. This doujin was partly inspired by the awesome, surreal and very artistic 2-hour-long anime Tekkon Kinkreet. It does have that special flavor of Obito's kind of madness or desperation. You know, some themes are just… they coincide.

whats tekkon kinkreet
i am too dumb to tell if this is a joke ask so i will respond seriously :) tekkon kinkreet is my favorite manga in the world and a strong contender for my favorite comic in general. it is 33 chapters long and ran in the early 90s, was cancelled and wrapped up early, and later became a cult classic partially due to an equally cult film adaptation.
short summary of what it's about will be as following: it's a partially surreal story about two homeless children trying to fight back against the gentrification of their neighborhood, with themes of growing up, duality, and love. the plot digs into that slow gradual destruction and the impact it has on the cast as things gets progressively worst for both kids
tekkon is a bittersweet story that is weirdly human in it's tone and stakes, with a cast of more or less savory marginals all entangled together by what they feel about the grimy, labyrinthine & quaint old neighborhood at the center of the plot. due to the surreal aspect of the storytelling it's very open to interpretation and from experience people usually tie what they think of it to how it personally touched them, what resonated the most. most people akin it to childhood memories or long gone places and the feeling of loss in general. i myself was really moved by how it handles mental problems, with one of the main characters being (as i interpret it, it's never said outright) my favorite depiction of an autistic character in anything i've read. in general the author's works all showcase extreme kindness towards it's characters, who tend to be social outcasts or children or in tekkon's case, both
manga and movie both have different art style which are in my opinion gorgeous and stand out in animanga by how unique they are. that the film went for a fully new art style is a bonus. look at my boys go

Hi!! Your art is amazing! I especially adore the way you draw backgrounds, they are always so full of details! Do you take inspiration for your pieces from daily life?
And also, this question is kinda basic, sorry, but what season of the year do you like the most?
Thanks for your message. I love photography and movies and construction! The backgrounds are mainly based on photos taken by myself. My favorite background artist is Shinji Kimura, he did Blood Blockade Battlefront and TEKKON KINKREET BLACK & WHITE. I learn a lot from his work. I love every season! Japan has four distinct seasons, and each of them is wonderful in its own way.

just watched noiseman sound insect had a time of it now i am talking about it to meself weehooha
BACKGROUND INFO the original broadcast released in 1997, its a ova from studio 4c, masaaki yuasa was on it doing something and thats how i found it lol lmao
the name? oh my god its incredible…. noiseman … sound insect…. rotating in my head in big sparkly text for the next section of my life methinks
noise man..... sound .... insect ...... dawg i do not know what a sound insect is but by jove do i want to find out.......
aaalso the characterization in the setting of the world - at least what i could glean from the backgrounds - is incredibly suited to go right to the part of my brain that loves items and things to have and hold. these guys did tekkon kinkreet also and this very much feels like a practice run for the environment they cultivated there, HUGE fan
the actual story, and execution thereof, seemed very jostled and clunky to me, though. this thing its 15 minutes and i think that was FAR to short of a timeframe to do the little story justice - things were happening all the time in a way that hindered my experience with it rather than adding a sense of charm. like, it was fast paced, because it HAD to be, and not because it WANTED to be... i wonder what happened for this ova to be granted a runtime shorter than a typical tv anime episode! strange, and i will not look into it, because i dont feel like it, cheers, i get the sense that the production team was doing the best with what they had available to em and looking at it through that lense paints the project in a much warmer light to me in retrospect, but i dont think i will think about this very much in the future, and i dont think id want to come back to rewatch it at all really
thats all
have a good night
