last night I couldn't sleep so I stared at the ceiling and thought abt phantom thief! reader x detective! diluc

a fanfic where reader and kaeya are childhood friends, bonded together through their origins as wandering khaen'riahans,,, but then over the course of the story, the celestial curse slowly overcomes the reader and kaeya can only watch as his beloved friend transforms into a monster.

bonus points: the outward appearance changes first, so reader's personality is still one of a human's (more or less). but as time goes by, it becomes more difficult to talk, and their movements become clumsier and more like an animal's...... hmmmm

so lately I've been having insomnia again, which is unfortunate but nothing unusual. but last night I snapped out of my attempt to sleep in order to write down a fanfic idea so incredibly genius that I had to write it down before I forgot

the idea in question:

this was written at 4:16 in the morning

ok but imagine a fic where reader is of royal birth, the beloved child of a noble king and queen. to the people, the reader is a perfect fit to be the future ruler of the kingdom: an individual well-versed in poetry and politics, in both fine arts and finances, and in all fields that a monarch must master in order to rule a kingdom.

but the king and queen hide a secret, that their 'perfect' future ruler has two flaws: firstly, your eyesight is blurry and imperfect. secondly, you cannot recognise faces.

the first issue is easily amended with glasses, but as for the second one... how will this ruler recognise the noblemen that are on their side? how will you prevent assassination, if you cannot even remember the faces of the knights that guard you?

as such, the king and queen keep this a secret: only trusted knights are informed of this fact and are appointed to the young ruler's guard. they ensure that every measure is taken to prevent outsiders from finding out— and they almost succeed. almost.

enter childe, a renowned phantom thief who's addicted to the adrenaline rush of the heist and acts as a sort of 'Robin Hood', stealing from the rich to provide for the poor. as part of his plans for the next heist, he takes the place of the new knight who was supposed to guard you. an easy job, he had thought it to be.

but he finds out your secret— and as childe spends more and more time acting as your eyes, aiding you as your knight and listening to your future plans for the kingdom that you want to have... slowly but surely, the deadline for the heist draws nearer, and every day closer is another day that he falls for you a little more.
