Serpentine Pavilion 2019 by Japanese architect Junya Ishigami. This large mound of slate is held up by a slender steel structure, supported by a grid of 106 pin-ended columns that are arranged randomly to create a “forest”. Ishigami’s aim was to create a building that takes the slate roof - one of the world’s most common architectural features - and show how it can be made to look like something found in the wild. I'm back! This week the @ted talks at the Vancouver Convention Centre begin and thanks to another brilliant build with @designbuildresearch I have been able to incorporate a little bit of play in the installation. Designed by @also_alsu the idea is an outdoor structure with walls that have holes that stool legs fit into that can be removed by TEDsters to have a seat and talk outside in the sunshine. Stool tops ranged from red felt, moss and grey felt to give the walls a mosaic looks. Being the play-maker that I am, I had my proposal accepted by the team to laser cut custom 1/8th inch thick plywood stool tops to give people the ability to play a game of Xs and Os by removing included letters from stools with the parts embedded in them and playing on 3x3 grids engraved on other stool tops.
