anyone who follows me on my main blog knows i’m a simp for everyone in the mafia trilogy games too so sjsnsnsj

and i guess if we’re talking irl gangsters (which i shouldn’t rly b discussing bc i’m gonna get cancelled so insert obligatory “i do not condone” here) then i’m just endlessly fascinated in learning about the prohibition era mafia. i also tend to intensely fixate on things super easily (adhd go brrrr) so like..... as bad as these people are, learning about them gives me ‘comfort’, in a way.

like everyone else i obviously love learning about lucky luciano, but i’m particularly intrigued by joe adonis- which is weird, because he’s not exactly ‘important’ nor is there much info on him. but i also tend to fixate the most on weird, unclear, ‘unsolvable’ things, which is likely why i can’t stop propelling myself down the same rabbit hole of info about him expecting to somehow find something new lmao

from what i’ve read, he worked pretty tight-knit alongside luciano and lansky, and some speculate he even took part in the hit on masseria, which is why i’m baffled by the fact that he’s rarely ever mentioned or acknowledged in most of the books and documentaries i’ve seen (though i’ll chalk it up to the fact that he’s never done anything..... ‘sensational’, i guess).

he attended the havana conference, he partnered up with lansky for a while, he owned a restaurant that he ran business from (i believe a notable murder took place there, there’s photos but i’m not near a computer right now to check so i may be wrong sksjsndnsk)... there’s some footage of him during the kefauver hearings in 1950, though it’s extremely brief- just him basically refusing to testify; still, i find it intriguing for whatever dumb reason, idk.

there’s several speculations on where the name ‘adonis’ even came from, and nobody really knows. it’s said he either just chose it himself, or the semi-romanticised version is that a ziegfeld follies performer called him adonis in reference to his handsome appearance, and allegedly he was quite vain. idk if i agree bc i don’t particularly think he’s all that pretty but yknow

and then, even later in the life, he still loved to commit small-time jewellery robberies, sort of harkening back to his youth spent robbing on the streets. kinda reminds me of jimmy from goodfellas in that respect, so i always thought that was a little funny.
