watched netflix's im westen nichts neues with my dad and uhh. i dont think they could've missed the essence of the book any harder if they'd actively tried
#WHY would you situate the story at the end of the war like that?? it makes no sense!!!#the entire POINT of the book is that paul dies without it being a big deal#he dies in like. a byline#and it's report that 'all is quiet on the western front'#bc the death of a few hundreds of soldiers on a random day is exactly that in the war#it's not worth mentioning. AND THAT'S THE POINT OF THE BOOK#how the deaths of individuals don't matter anymore in a war like that and that shows how terrible it is#god if anybody asked. i have SO MANY ideas on how to make this book into a good movie#that perfectly encapsulates what the book is about!! aaaaa#how can you seriously make a film called 'im westen nichts neues'#and then explicitly make it abt the one moment that 'etwas neues' happens at the western front... what the fuck#curry rambles#it's reported*#ALSO THEY DID KATCZINSKY SO DIRTY WHAT THE HELL#me @ this movie: he would not fucking say that#im westen nichts neues#all quiet on the western front#AND ANOTHER THING. THIS FILM IS RIFE WITH HISTORICAL INACCURACIES#i can't believe this film is being received so well. it's just bad war film tropes one after another#ill give it points for being in german and being german-made but by god
