1. How did you get into writing fanfiction? A fanart blog! After I finished the HP series I was googling it passionately and in so doing found fanart, followed it to a wordpress art blog, and then upon an offhand comment about fanfiction googled 'harry potter fanfiction'. And the rest is history

2. How many fandoms have you written in? 7 that i've published on ao3! I think 9 if we count stuff I've posted elsewhere, and probably a few more if we count stuff I've written but not published

3. How many years have you been writing fanfiction? My first one was published in mid 2013.... 11 years. Good lord

4. Do you read or write more fanfiction? Oh read, for sure. I keep a spreadsheet for both reading and writing -- I'm nearly at 6million words read thus far this year, vs 80k written. A slight disparity !

5. What is one way you’ve improved as a writer? Loool is it cheating to say in every way?? I think if you compared any of my fics now to those of 11 years ago they would simply not be in the same league. But I'll say my command of language, and my ability to communicate emotions more subtly.

6. What’s the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project? Polythene growing tunnels, firewood growing and coppicing techniques, for one fic I read (bits of) the muqaddimah and the safarnama of nasir khusraw... I'm sure there are more but I tend not to end up using much from my more unhinged research holes lmao

7. What’s your favorite type of comment to receive on your work? All of them of course, but the ones that dive into specific lines or story elements they liked are a special gift

8. What’s the most fringe trope/topic you write about? I think amnesia and selkies are the 2 I've returned to across multiple fandoms :')

9. What is the hardest type of story for you to write? The long ones with lots of plot and moving plates, alas! I've been wrestling with the main longfic I'm working on for ages and ages, but we forge on

10. What is the easiest type? I don't know if there's anything that binds them, but there is a type of fic that just comes bubbling up from my id and demands to be written, and those tend to come out relatively quickly and smoothly! 'bathed in light' was one such fic, and 'send me a little word' was another

11. Where do you do your writing? What platform? When? Scrivener! But it's version 1.9 because the update to v3 made everything look different and frightening. And as for when/where it's usually late night, on my couch or in bed

12. What is something you’ve been too nervous/intimidated to write, but would love to write one day? My beloved film reviews fic -- though it is less a case of intimidation and more a case of "but if i want to write fictional film reviews of 5 films that get made about the historical figures King Laurent and King Damianos I have to first sort out what the future film industry looks like and how it developed and did they have a Hays Code also? How did their censorship policies change over time? And when did three-strip technicolor get dropped in favour of eastmancolor, and were there any wars or geopolitical conflicts which shaped the production of contemporaneous films, and is there a 1948 New Artes v. Paramount antitrust case that breaks up the distribution channels and affects the way that independent productions are able to come onto the scene, and and and ----" SO basically you can tell I did film studies. And ALSO what DATES would I use for the speculative future of this secondary world fantasy ?? But I do hope that one day I will power thru my brain's panicked worldbuilding questions and write this fic!!

13. What made you choose your username? I was looking through the Hepcats Jive Talk Dictionary for reasons I no longer remember and saw the entry 'spin a wren = dance with a woman' which I thought was so cute that I made it my ao3 name. Wrenaspun is just a silly play on that :')

Patterns: I am writing a lot of Hearts stuff (some due to zines), and also am not writing as much as I used to (busy, and have only got so much to say!). Anyhoo: my openings are relatively short, bar the last one. I don't open with dialogue as much as I thought I did. A touch of description is common, or an internal observation. General observations seem to be popular too.

Hi, anons!

Sorry for my delayed response. I was traveling when the talk about Erik Karlsson possibly returning to Ottawa (or going elsewhere) heated up and your question arrived. It's not an easy question to answer in detail, though the concise answer is "Probably far too much."

I'll preface this by saying EK is the one hockey player to whom I pay attention who is not either a Pen or a former Pen. (In fact, he first came to my attention when the Pens and Sens faced off in the Stanley Cup playoffs a few years back.) So the idea of having him as a Pen pleases me greatly.

But then there's the reality.

EK has an $11.5 million cap hit for the 2022-23 season (and each of the next four seasons).

If I’ve done my math correctly, and by going strictly based on players’ individual cap hit (rather than anything to do with bonuses, etc.), combining the salaries of Chad Ruhwedel, P.O. Joseph, Jan Rutta, Marcus Pettersson, Teddy Blueger and Josh Archibald would clear the cap space needed to fit EK into the Pens roster. But … losing those six players wouldn’t be enough, because Ron Hextall then would be tasked with filling out a roster that just lost six players and only got one in return. The Pens carry seven defensemen, but five of the six players lost in that scenario are D-men. Which means the Pens would be down to two defensemen plus EK. They would need at least three more defensemen just to fill out three defense pairings.

Not to attack him when he’s down, but Kasperi Kapanen’s $3.2 million cap hit might — might — wrangle three defensemen in return, but the odds of getting someone with P.O. Joseph’s potential for the same price are slim. And Chad, as they’ve noted on many occasions, does what he does — keeping himself in shape through long stretches of not playing, in case they need him — really well for his price tag. So he might be hard to replace, too. Meanwhile, R-Hex also would have to replace Kappy.

Olli Maata has a cap hit of $2.25M this year, which would mean the Pens then would have only $950,000 left (of Kappy's $3.2 million) to sign two more defensemen. And with the league’s minimum salary this season set at $750,000, $950,000 isn’t going to replace four guys. So, also losing Kappy wouldn’t be enough, either. To make that viable, you'd be talking about losing real cap space. And do you really want to lose anyone higher up the ladder?

Meanwhile, as long as we're talking contracts ...

Sid’s contract was top-loaded when he signed it. While, yes, it has an annual cap hit of the familiar $8.7 million, he made $12 million in annual salary each of the first three years before his annual salary began declining. This season? His total salary is a flat $3 million, even though he accounts for an $8.7 million cap hit. He also has no signing bonuses, no performance bonuses. So .. the fact that he's still playing the game at such a high level is not being driven by the promise of more money. 

In fact, on the Pens roster, players who have a higher salary than Sid this season include Geno, Tanger, Jake, Tristan Jarry, Jason Zucker, Rusty, Rickard Rakell, Kappy, Jeff Carter, Jeff Petry and Brian Dumoulin.

(Jack Johnson’s salary also counts more than $1.9 million toward the Pens’ cap limit this season.)

This is a long answer, anons, and I am not a contract or cap-space expert. There are all sorts of nuances that go into all of it, and I would not want to be the GM of an NHL team. I just pulled numbers from the CapFriendly website. If anyone has a better answer, feel free to chime in!

Gen trembled under the Greedent's gaze. While he liked RPGs as a human, Burhalla didn't seem like he knew what video games were.

He had to keep up the facade, or he'll be all alone.

"I-I don't know what those are," Gen lied, clutching onto his reunion cape.

(@dawdlingdewgong) The Dewgong sees the poor Oshawott crying and decides to try and make him laugh. "Hey, watch this." The Dewgong pulls out a red clown nose, seemingly from nowhere, and puts it on their own nose. "Honk, honk!".

The sight of a Pokemon acting like a clown was too much for the Oshawott, and he giggled, the tears beginning to slow down.

After a few seconds, his laughter slowed, and he smiled genuinely at the Dewgong. "Th-thanks for that."

I can help you feel like you're home again?"

The Oshawott hesitated, then waddled up towards the Lucario, and gave him as much of a hug as he could, with his stubby arms and short stature.

"T-thank you..." Gen said, before looking down. "...b-but...I don't think I'll ever feel like I'm home, not until I'm truly home, with my family, and my human body."

I actually wanted to ask, have you seen an eevee around here with a really bad haircut? I'unno if he's here, but you look like you're good with directions. you in a team or something?"

"I-I..." To be honest, he didn't think he'd ever seen an Eevee with a haircut at all. "I haven't," Gen said, gripping onto his reunion cape.

He hesitated, then continued, "Y-yeah. I'm p-part of Team Searchlights, a search party. ...I h-haven't helped much, though."
