today i learned about a type of fly (Bibionidae) that has weirdly extreme sexual dimorphism in... the eyes. like . the heads of males and females look entirely different species. females have tiny little heads with small eyes while males have big bulbous eyes that look more "fly-like":

but nobody on earth seems to think this is as interesting as i do because wikipedia hardly mentions this and most stuff i can find about it is very technical studies. the only, like, public-facing information i found was this one blog post by a naturalist and this page from a tasmanian insect field guide. was hoping there would be a fuckin bizarre beasts video on this thing because Why on Earth are they so different???
