my marching band headcanons for the sonic cast (produced by yours truly, a front ensemblist)

sonic - quads, was offered to be drum major but missed playing drums

shadow - snare. he’s got that attitude of a snare player

silver - visual ensemble, aka cymbals. definitely cheats at his visuals with telekinesis

amy - front ensemble, marimba captain all hail. bosses people out of the pit during outside rehearsal and protects the tech with her life.

tails - synthesizer and tech. he keeps this band together explosion sound effect by explosion sound effect.

knuckles - bass drum. i don’t have to explain more.

charmy - the boy in the clarinet section fr.

espio - saxophone player who tries to correct the flutes (he’s wrong)

blaze - guard and she would do so good. (also vis ensemble duo with silver <3)

metal sonic - head drum major and you’ll disagree until you find out why

big - TUBA !!!!

cream - flute (literally going to die if espio keeps correcting her)

rouge - second drum major (and the one everyone actually likes)

vector - trombone/tuba/brass specialist in general but marches trombone

sticks - front ensemble’s rack. she would go CRAZY in there!!!

omega - third drum major. also well-liked.

and finally (because i refuse to think of anything else) the man himself…. eggman as the band director. he is forcing them into his marching band. (and metal sonic being head drum major is just nepotism.)

ABOUT:

verse 08: ‘ broadway baby. ‘

blaine grew up in westerville, ohio, attending dalton academy for 9th-12th grade. he’s encouraged to audition for NYADA (new york academy of the dramatic arts) and gets in, starting his first semester that fall. his main focus is on vocals and theatre. his dream is to make it to broadway, but for the time being he is just enjoying his college years. 

during his third semester at NYADA, word gets out about a new broadway musical coming out entitled “SCANDALS”. he initially thinks to audition to be an ensemblist, but something in his heart is telling him to try out for a bigger part. after several steps of the audition process occurring during his fourth semester, blaine lands the part of ezra mercier, one of five main cast members. the musical involves outlandish costumes, vocals and dance moves. blaine takes a (possibly permanent) break from NYADA as he signs a 12-month contract with the show.

the fame doesn’t go to his head — it’s weird to him, honestly. he did show choir and theatre throughout high school and college, but he’s never done anything on this level. he isn’t necessarily bombarded by paparazzi, but he is definitely recognized by many anywhere he goes, which can make life difficult. despite becoming rather wealthy from the show, he continues to live in a one-bedroom apartment in new york.

blaine has a very poor relationship with his father. only his mother attends his broadway debut. his father is disapproving of his sexuality/aesthetic/interests. his brother cooper views broadway in a negative light, in general. 

blaine’s hair is naturally curly, and he does NOT frequently gel his hair in this verse. he uses contacts, and sometimes glasses.

blaine did not attend mckinley high in this verse, so he does not know those students (kurt, sam, tina, rachel, etc.)

his background before transferring to dalton remains the same (the bullying, sadie hawkins dance, etc.)

modern au jim is an stage actor && fight choreographer. classically trained in musical theatre, they’ve worked since professionally since they were a kid, racking up regional && tour credits all around the country. they’re an ensemblist by trade, a forever “chorus girl” — until they’re cast as enjolras in edward teach’s production of les mis, come out as nonbinary, && gain newfound confidence in a broader range of roles they never considered they could play.

5 Debut Questions - Meet Hamilton’s Sabrina Imamura (The Ensemblist):

[. . .] 3. How did you find out you had booked the part?

My agent had sent me an email asking if I would be interested/available for a couple of months and I replied yes. A few weeks later, he called me and said, “Guess who will be making their Broadway debut in Hamilton?!” It was a pretty exciting moment. I had a smile plastered on my face the entire day.

4. What's been the most surprising thing about preparing to perform the show?

I was in the First National Tour of Hamilton for about a year and a half, so getting into rehearsal wasn’t too bad. I am performing the same track that I did on tour. There were definitely moments where my brain had to take a minute to relearn certain things, but it came back to me pretty quickly.

I was honestly very surprised that I was so nervous my first week of performing. I have done the show so many times, but it felt so new and fresh on my body and mind. It was quite reinvigorating and it totally renewed my love of performing in this show. [. . .]

Hi Liz! Do you know of any podcasts or similar programs about the history of Broadway/American theater?

Sure! The Ensemblist does a lot of different types of episodes, but my favorites are the ones that go deep into a particular behind-the-scenes aspect: what’s it like to be a swing, or a dresser, or a replacement? They have lots of episodes to pick and choose.

TodayTix and Patrick Hinds (from the Theater People Podcast) have a new joint venture called Broadway Backstory, about how different shows made their way to Broadway. My favorite so far is on Putnam County Spelling Bee. 

The Bowery Boys isn’t theater-specific, but they focus on New York City history, which inevitably includes Broadway. They’ve covered the Ziegfield revues, vaudeville, and even specific Broadway houses, though my favorite is the episode on Mae West and Broadway censorship.

hey, i know i’ve been “harsh” about this movie musical, but if you want a more articulated version of what i’ve been trying to say, these guys do a GREAT job. and they praise it as well, because there were valid parts to this movie. but the critiques they give are Really important to note, im deadass
