Now 30 years after "Schindler's List" came out, I give you the worst article ever written about it.
Join me for a wallow in the depths of Extremely Online lefty pseudointellectualism and Awareness Raising.
"For all its pathos and earnestness, the movie is too glib in its handling of the Nazis. The concentration camp commandant, Amon Goeth (Ralph Fiennes), is a sadistic monster who performs cinematic and dramatic acts of brutality to signal to the viewer that he is pure evil."
Yes, the movie sure was unfair to Amon Goeth. It's not like there was historical evidence of him doing exactly what they showed.
"In real life, when Nazis and their ilk are trying to gain power, they often lie about their motives or their goals, and use dog whistles to rally support. They talk incessantly about black crime rates, or, in the Nazis’ case, about Jewish crime rates, in order to create a consensus for strong-arm law-and-order policies."
The Nazis were just a warm-up act for the REAL threat: Republicans!
And, just like with Goeth, I guess this movie doesn't actually show what Nazis were like in real life. I guess when Adolf Hitler promised in 1922 that he would exterminate all the Jews, that wasn't real life, that was a wandering variant from "Across the Hitlerverse." And speaking of superhero movies:
"But you don’t need to deconstruct Nazi ideology or understand racist dog whistles to condemn the Nazis in “Schindler’s List.” You just need to watch as Goeth takes up a sniper position and shoots anyone in the camp who happens to pause for a rest. It’s no harder than rooting against Lex Luthor or the Joker."
This drivel was published 5 years ago, so the author had to have been like 17 at the time and is just barely out of college now, right? Right??? (*checks*) NO WAY, HE'S 52, ARE YOU FOR REAL??!
"The Jewish people in the film don’t try to resist or kill their German oppressors. They don’t even express much in the way of hatred or resentment... Jewish people are always object lessons, never conscious teachers. No Jewish character criticizes or explains the evils of Nazi propaganda. These Jews never talk about how they experience prejudice, or what they would need to fight it.... the Jews around Schindler only beg him to save their relatives, or praise him for his bravery. They never insist on their rights."
Well, there was that Jewish architect in the camps who talked back to Goeth for a second about how the barracks would collapse and he immediately had her killed. The movie is about people having been ALREADY ghettoized by a for-real genocidal regime once the genocide program is under way. Where was there supposed to be a dramatic lecture? And what Jew would have given one, to which Nazi, in which fucking ACTUAL GHETTO?
Again and again, this screen-addled, zero-life-experience baby WHO IS SOMEHOW 52 YEARS OLD WTF fails to confront the horrors of true Jewish history because his only frame of reference has been Twitter arguments about how sleeping with a mattress is secretly white supremacy.
"The targets of fascism are the people best able to express what is happening to them, and what they need to fight it. But “Schindler’s List” presents victims as supplicants. It doesn’t model any way to show support for journalist Jemele Hill, who fell out with her network for saying that Trump is a white supremacist. It doesn’t push you to show solidarity when anti-racist activists demand that Confederate monuments be taken down. It doesn’t tell you that anti-fascist actions are important — even when they disrupt someone’s meal. The virtuous victims in “Schindler’s List” never protest. Because of this kind of representation, it’s easy for people to claim that protesters aren’t virtuous."
.........Or! OR! Hear me out here. Or maybe, just maybe, there could be another reason why the Holocaust doesn't look like a good match for someone being fired from ESPN, or for well-fed comfortable people protected by the rule of law yelling at a White House press secretary. Without checking - without doing even a five-second Google search - I am willing to declare as an absolute immutable fact of the universe that Noah Berlatsky considers Sarah Huckabee Sanders to be more dangerous, more fascist, and more Nazi-like than he does Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The overall mentality is that real life must be a screenplay - according to Berlatsky's written cues. Real life must be cinematic - according to Berlatsky's direction. And anything that differs from Berlatsky's internal script - "AOC uses the Infinity Gauntlet to stop voter ID laws which are the new Nazism" - is simply not credible as real life, as real history, and must be discarded and replaced by more of what he saw on Twitter.
After a long lecture, of course.

Roman-Era Burials Discovered in Germany
Students from Goethe University Frankfurt, in collaboration with the Hesse archeology department at the Darmstadt branch of the State Monument Protection Agency, uncovered 46 graves from various ethnic groups near Nauheim, a town southwest of Frankfurt in the central-western German state of Hessen.
They uncovered 46 graves from the time when Roman legions were stationed on the Rhine during a six-week training excavation. The grave goods indicate the deceased were immigrants with Gallic funerary customs who settled in the area in the middle of the 1st century A.D.
The team expected to find Roman remains because a Roman military camp was known to have been built in the Nauheim area. The graves of early settlers came as a surprise.
The burial ground, which eight students in two teams brought to light on a good 2,000 square meters, dates from the middle of the 1st century AD to the beginning of the 3rd century. They unearthed a total of 46 graves, 44 of them cremation burials, only two of them inhumations.
Anthropologists will now examine the bone remains from the corpse fire as well as the skeletons and determine the age at death, gender, and diseases.
The Nauheim graves show who settled on the borders of the Hessian Ried almost 2,000 years ago: immigrant ethnic groups in small-scale groups. Grave goods indicate Germanic military farmers who were deliberately attracted by the Romans from the north, took over the security service in the province on the border of the Roman Empire, and then settled down.
Tumblr media
In the burial area, a 30-centimeter high vessel, in particular, indicated that the dead of newly arrived settlers found their final resting place here: a bronze bucket that probably served as a burial urn.
An early Nauheimer “in the bucket”. Burying a person in a bronze bucket and providing tools such as scissors or knives is atypical for Roman burials. This is also the first time that evidence of the grave enclosures mentioned has been found in southern Hesse, while the custom was widespread on the left of the Rhine in the east of Gaul in the late Iron Age (1st century BC) and the 1st century AD. For scientists, such unusual burials are clear signs that immigrants were buried here, bringing not only their culture but also their burial rites with them.
The bucket must have been imported here and probably cost a dinar or two,” said Professor Markus Scholz, head of the Archeology and History of the Roman Provinces course at Goethe University. In general, the grave goods – such as a complete urn made of green glass – were of high quality, which indicates a certain level of wealth of those buried.
There are also six rectangular ditch systems that can be viewed as the enclosure of special burials and, according to current knowledge, all belong to the burial ground’s founding phase. In some cases, there are additions such as a complete glass urn, which attest to the wealth of those buried.

Incarnation (Honkai Star Rail x Child! Herrscher! Reader)

Summary: In which Y/n, the creation of Will of Honkai, successfully defeated her own creator with the help of her friends. After defeating the Will of Honkai, for using too much of her power she goes into a deep sleep.

Chapter 4
Tumblr media
Second POV:
"You're right. Our reason for coming here is not purely selfless. If we don't seal the Stellaron, we cannot leave this planet." Dan Heng said.
"Please let us help you." Stelle said.
"Yeah! FYI, we're pretty awesome." March said.
"You... know how to seal the Stellaron?" Cocolia asked.
"We have the relevant means." Dan Heng replied.
"Very well, I believe you. If our present situation is truly the result of this so called Stellaron, then your arrival is the hope that Belobog has waited seven hundred years for. I am willing to assist you in any way possible to help you locate the Stellaron." Cocolia said.
"It's getting late, and you must be tired. I will arrange for you to stay in our most comfortable hotel. Rest there, and get a good night's sleep. Tomorrow, at noon, I will dispatch someone to escort you here, and we can discuss this urgent matter in greater detail." Cocolia said.
"Thank you, Supreme Guardian." Stelle said.
"It should be me thanking you, visitors from beyond the sky. I too need some time. I will go over our records for anything that may be connected to Stellarons... Please excuse me for not escorting you further." Cocolia said.
You, and the trio left the headquarters, but you look back at Cocolia. You didn't trust that woman's words, you know how humans lie no matter how they put a good act to others. You notice that Stelle did the same as you did.
'So she noticed that woman is being suspicious.' You thought.
You all went outside the headquarters and saw Gepard waiting for the four of you.
"It seems that the supreme guardian hols you in high regard. I have received orders that your movements are no longer to be restricted." Gepard said.
"She's an impressive figure." Stelle said.
"She's the big shot! Definitely got the "queen of the castle" vibe going on. Aww, so cool." March added.
"Haha. I'm afraid I still have duties to attend to. I must return to my post. I hope you enjoy your stay in Belobog." Gepard said.
"Wait! Can you recommend some sights? It's not that late, we wanna take a look around." March said.
Gepard recommended them as a place to look around at, Golden Theater, History Museum, Everwinter Monument, and Neverwinter Workshop. If they're staying at Goethe Hotel he told them to avoid the ally because of corrosion.
"So the corrosion is inside the city... that's a grave situation." Dan Heng said.
"Yes, we're mounting a resistance as we speak. I must leave now. I hope all goes well for you." Gepard bid his farewell to them.
You didn't want to look around the place since you're sleepy and didn't want someone to ruin her sleep. You're three companions saw you walking away from them.
"Y/n! Where are you going? Don't you want to explore the place?" March asked.
"No thank you, I rather go to sleep than explore." You replied.
"By the way, you should keep your guard on. That Cocolia is up to something and I don't trust her." You said.
"She was kinda harsh at first, but she turned out to be a nice, reasons lady." March said.
"You shouldn't believe her lies. Who knows something might happened tomorrow morning and I know one of you three notice about Cocolia." You gaze at Stelle.
Stelle flinch a little when she saw you gazing at her.
'So she knows...' Stelle thought.
You left the three of them and went inside at Goethe Hotel. You went to the hotel manager and asked where your room is.
"You must be Supreme Guardian's guest, little lady. Your room number is 275 and here's your key." The hotel manager said and handed you the key to the room.
You thanked the hotel manager and search where your room is. A minute later, you found your room and went straight to bed as you lie down. You closed your eyes and started drifting to sleep.
Your dream:
You were born in a distant planet of the Centaur galaxy, a world built by the Great Old Ones. As one of the youngest deities of your homeworld, you were a genderless, weak, and fragile deity and felt miserable among the kind that looked down on you for being one of the most useless and less powerful deities of their kind. The humiliation you had to endure for thousand years caused you to feel hatred for your kind and eventually became a Herrscher when you merged yourself with the Honkai energy, the same living disaster that exists on Earth.
Now as a deity Herrscher, you went on a rampage and destroyed multiple planets with life after exposing all living beings to insanity so you sadistically watches all life forms of the said worlds destroy themselves and then kill the last life forms by making them kill themselves in the most brutal ways. After a thousand years, you became tired due to overusing your power and fell asleep in space. While you were asleep, at some point you landed on the bottom of the ocean where you slept for centuries.
When humankind was in its primordial stages, you woke up and considered the planet to be a fit world for you to rule, especially the vast blue ocean of the world. Overseeing humans, you concluded they are not worthy of being your slaves and used your Honkai energy to destroy the sanity of all humans alive at the time and especially whole empires (including making pregnant women stab themselves to kill the fetus) to destroy themselves, ending the culture of mankind and destroying every creation made by man. After 5,000 years making the world in your image, you fell asleep in the pacific ocean (while in your true form), creating the Jianuo island.
Thousand years later, you woke up and tried to destroy mankind once again when you discovered your world (the Old World) was "infected" by humans again. But now, humans had technologies and weapons powerful enough to face the Herrscher, one of them being the God of War built by Dr. Mei. During the process of genocide, you fell asleep once again and woke up only 40,000 years later when the world was already reset by God Kiana.
"Hello... Can you here me?" You were woken up by someone.
A young Valkyrie from Shicksal named Kiana Kaslana, who was investigating the island. She saw you sleeping and decided to wake you up.
"Can you tell me who you are?" Kiana asked.
"I am The Great One who destroyed mankind once."
Kiana laughed, remembering the works of H.P. Lovecraft. She thought you lost your memories and decided to give you a name.
"Your name is gonna be Y/n. I'm going to help you regain your memories!" Kiana declares.
'Y/n... Is that my new name?' You thought.
"Come with me! We'll be going to my ship and take you to my auntie Theresa to help you." Kiana said, as she took your hands.
You felt warm when you hold Kiana's hand. You now know how humans feel. Then you remember the Will of Honkai told you that it is to come to this planet to find the trace of Kiana and to destroy humanity together with Kiana as the Messenger of the Honkai and Kiana's lover.
Tumblr media
Fact: Y/n is actually a Cthulhu and she shapeshift herself to become a human (young adult) to blend in. The reason why she turned into a child was because she used too much of her powers when she defeated the Will of Honkai.

"March, are you sure we should do this-? Are we even allowed to do this..?"
"Relax! It's no biggie, they won't even notice us gone!"
"Are you sure? This mission is important, we can't just skip our job!"
You and March were an odd pair,, perhaps because of the contrasts in your personalities, the both of you squabble like this for hours!.. Perhaps I was exaggerating on the hours part- but you guys won't stop!
Squabbling is a normal thing for the both of you- of course, you love her dearly, but you have to stop her from doing more and more reckless things!
There are many instances on why you both argue about small things— from who cooks to who should strategize the plan for the next mission.
But this time was slightly different from the other times— she wanted to go on a date with you! Just during a mission to save humanity that you have to do or else mankind will be long gone by tomorrow, but hey, it's not that bad being ashes. ☺
"Come on~! You're starting to sound like Danheng!"
"Is that a bad thing—"
"Come on, let's go!"
She takes ahold of your hand, and leads you outside of the Goethe Hotel while she leads to wherever you both go.
You haven't even agreed to this plan, you just wanted to peacefully drink your afternoon tea without some reckless girl trying to ruin your little tea sesh.
Just as soon as the both of you left, she was quick to grab your hand tighter and venture forward— but did she know where the both of you should go first? No clue! Did she even know any spots in Belobog..? Probably not..! But yet she lead the way, without any idea of what to do!
As you both ran through the crowds, March kept chatting to you about whatever really— from the statue right there, to the new flower shop that opened up! Flower shops are her favorite type of shops, she just loves flowers, and all pretty things, and.. Oh! We're at our destination.
You both arrived to the central plaza— the both of you stood before the Everwinter Monument, or what the locals say: one of the most pleasant areas in Belobog.
"[Name]! Stay still, let me take a picture of you right here."
She said as she positioned you, moving further and further away and grabbing her camera-
"The lighting's perfect..! Let me just.."
You heard a click- she snapped a few quick photos of you,
"You look amazing!" She exclaimed, "now, are you still up for a few more photos? If so~ come take a selfie with me!"
She ran up to you, camera on hand- raising her camera up, and... Snap! She took another picture of you, just including her this time.
"Awee! We're so pretty, don't you think?"
"So is this statue- it's so perfectly built.."
"Good thing the lighting was right on spot! It's just perfect..!"
She said cheerily, while she returns the camera and excitedly chats with you, hand in hand.
Eventually, after a few hours strolling through the streets of the plaza, you both ran across a flower shop—
"[name]! Look at that flower shop! It's not closed yet, so let's hurry!"
She gripped your hand and ran towards the flower shop in an eccentric manner, I suppose she really loves flowers..
The wooden sign right outside the flower shop, surrounded by flowers, read; 'eversummer florist'- the shops' name.
March slowed down and stopped.
Right before the both of you stood the door to the flower shop. March excitedly looked around, and admired the flowers for a moment, before taking her camera and snatching multiple photos of the flowers.
And finally— you both entered.
You we're both immediately surrounded with all types of greenery, along with warm lights, and warm tones, a warmth throbs in your chest. This flower shop feels so homey.
"[name], don't you think these flowers are so pretty?"
"They are.. This one reminds me of you..!"
You crouched down to reach for two flowers— one was a peony of which it's petals were the exact color of March's hair, a tone of pink that has darker ends— and as for the other, one that reminded you of her eyes. A rose with a rare color- pink with a blue-cyan end,, you wonder if these were dyed to make the colors look like that.
"Oh.. You're right! These are the exact colors of my hair- and my eyes too!"
She bent down to reach you— oh!
"[Name], look! This flower looks like your hair!"
She reached out to hold it gently, it was a [color] pansy- not exactly a rare color, though it's gorgeous.
"I see you both have great taste, would you like to buy them?"
The shop-keeper went up to you,
"Yes please! How much boss-lady?"
March proclaimed, grabbing her purse-
"Wait, let me pay for it."
You whispered to March- and honestly thank god that you did, she's broke.
"Thank you!"
March whispered back,
"That would be 130 credits."
You got your wallet and paid- with a small tip of course.
"Thank you, come again!"
As the shop keeper shouted that out, you were both checking the time only to see that it was 6:49 already!
You both rushed outside- while you both still have time to neglect your duties, you'll be sure to get a scolding from Dan heng.
"[Name], we still have time, don't worry!" March grabbed your hands and looked into your eyes, "we still have time to do something that I actually planned to do with you!"
"And what is that?"
"Come with me!"
She lead you up the stairs beside the flower shop,
You both kept going up, until your legs were tired.
"We're here."
You caught your breath, and looked up at the sky, as March was doing.
You were met with a milky way, and all kinds of different constellations in the sky. The stars above glimmered brightly at you, shining light to whoever lays under them.
You turn towards March, she's looking up at them in wonder, as if she was a child looking up at the window of a candy store.
Her eyes glowed brightly, as if they were the night sky itself. Her eyes sparkled like the stars, and it was like she trapped them inside. Her magenta eyes were darker, making it seem more of a dark purple- resembling the milky way galaxy, with its red, blue, and white stars, along with its planets.
It felt as if you were both truly at peace for now. It's just—
"March, [Name], what are you both doing?!"
You hear a masculine voice call out, turning around only to see Dan heng.
"March, you can't just drag [name] out and neglect your missions!"
"I know.. I'm sorry."
She says with a pouty face, head hung in shame.
"Lets just go back to Goethe hotel, get some rest you two."
He walks away, March following right behind him.
You look back at the sky for only a minute, and then ran back to your group.
Perhaps you both could do this another time.

Thelreads, Vigilantes 68, Replies Part 1
1) “I HAVE BEEN RESURRECTED FROM THE DEPTHS OF HELL”-
youtube
2) “But enough of that, I`m back, and I`m ready to continue from where we left on vigilantes, right as Pop caught Koich and Makoto ready to frick frack paddy whack FUCK. Now let`s see how that won`t happen, on Chapter 68: Partner.
Oh, the Cowboy AU chapter? I heard about it…”-Partner. The word implies somebody equal, trusted, dependable, reliable…and whilst Koichi is all these things for Pop, she’s now realising that she’s not really any of those for him, even if he sees it differently. She needs to carve her own way in the world, stand on her own two feet, and not ride Koichi’s coattails all the time, just like Uraraka resolved to become a capable hero who could fight alongside Izuku rather than a love stuck girl who let her emotions impact her effectiveness on the field. 3) “Alright Makoto, you still have the spotlight, time to shine and give Pop a hell of a bad time.”- All it takes is patience, focus and the determination to power on through Koichi’s titanium- strong denseness, and she makes more progress towards a relationship with Koichi in half a chapter than Pop managed in many and over an in-universe two year period. That’s gotta sting. 4) “Pop, are you sure want to hear this? Things are about to get steamy…. Actually they won`t, but I want to give you a scare so you realize its time to act for fuck`s sake woman”- Oh, she’ll act alright, but first she needs to see how Makoto handles her own confession towards Koichi, in order to gauge what she should do to properly compete with her on this private battlefield of their. It’s not like Koichi will be giving a definite answer anytime soon anyway, he’s still getting used to the idea that a girl would see any benefit in a long-term relationship with him.
5) “Oh damn, Makoto gave a hint but downplayed it a little, knowing this boy is too stupid to catch it. Well, I bet that even if she wanted to confess he wouldn`t understand it… Now to the Bathroom of justice he goes! There`s no time to waste!”- Oh, she’s gonna make damn sure he understands, one way or another! No comical misunderstandings happening tonight! 6) “Now time for some post-hugging coffee, those two are extremely kinky by the looks of it. Damn, now that everything was quickly explained and brushed aside I`ll have to stop with the jokes about them fucking ): “- Makoto didn’t travel halfway around the world for her sincere confession to get swept aside that easily. 7) “Ah, I already see where this is gonna go, Makoto will talk about a guy she likes without giving names, and Koichi of course will think its someone from America, and yadda yadda nothing of productive shall come out of this, its like when I sit down to write.”- Makoto’s writing the script of this conversation, and she didn’t become that famous and respected by being unproductive in America, now did she? She not about to quit now. 8)“But anyway, back to the master of romance, about to completely miss the point of the conversation. Go on Koichi, make me proud of your status as a shonen protagonist.”- Not even the world-class defences of Koichi’s utter denseness could deflect Makoto this night, for she came here with a mission in mind, dammit!
9) “Huh, interesting. Makoto is extremely smart and confident, but even so she`s not arrogant, she is well aware that her luck might change or that she can screw up in a monumental scale and end at the bottom of the well.”- Pride Goethe before the fall, and high as she’s risen, Makoto’s not arrogant enough to believe she’ll always be on top of the world. It’s an intense rollercoaster of a bucking bronco, a position that constantly demands effort and focus to remain on top, and in that kind of environment, somebody like Koichi, plain, dull, ordinary, but stable, safe and reassuring, would be exactly what Makoto needed to help her keep on track, understand when it’s time to walk away, and exit with dignity and grace, rather than over-reach and lose it all. 10) “Holy shit Makoto is pretty much saying to his face that she likes him, that his presence calms her and that she wants him by her side and HE STILL HASN`T NOTICED WHAT SHE IS SAYING FUCK`S SAKE KOICHI I`M GOING TO FUCKING DECK YOU”-Koichi’s mental defences are working overtime trying to keep him from that lightbulb moment, but Makoto’s not giving up anytime soon. 11) “SHE IS FUCKING CONFESSING TO HIM WITHOUT ANY WAY OF DOUBTING WHAT HER INTENTIONS ARE AND HE STILL HASN`T NOTICED WHAT THE CONVERSATION IS ABOUT
HOLY. FUCK.
MAKOTO DID CONFESS
I WASN`T EXPECTING THAT ONE”- Rather than dancing around the issue and allowing miscommunication to ensue, Makoto just cuts straight to the point and tells him outright, being self-confident enough to admit her feelings and not get overwhelmed by her own insecurities mid-sentence like Pop, getting further than she ever did as a result. Never forget the basics when talking to another human being you want to properly communicate with, especially one with ignorance on Koichi’s level- Keep It Simple, Stupid. 12) “HOLY SHIT HE UNDERSTOOD IT
WHAT
WHAT THE FUCK
HE NOTICED WHAT SHE WAS SAYING
HE REALIZED THIS WAS A ROMANTIC CONFESSION
WHAT
WHAT AM I READING DID SOMEONE TOOK OVER FURUHASHI`S SPOT AS A WRITER OR SOMETHING?”- Koichi: (Hears Romance confession) Does Not Compute! L: (Realises Koichi understood a romance confession) Does Not Compute! 13) “She caught both of us off-guard there my boy, not gonna lie. Both her and Furuhashi. But anyway, the confession was given, now for the answer: no. But Koichi has a few months to give that one, Makoto is a patient girl after all.”-She arguably waited 2 years before she was good and ready to give her confession when it was convenient for her and her career, unlike Pop who waited two years because she kept putting it off out of fear of rejection. 14) “You definitely don`t have, but even so, we know you will. Even though there was no romantic build-up besides Pop saying she had a crush some 50 chapters ago, which was actually over two years before, and even though you never showed any romantic interest on her, we know you will pick Pop, first girl always wins in those mangas, its a rule that is more ingrained in romantic sub-plots than the fucking law of gravity “- Well, Pop’s at least going to do her best to make sure she’s making equal strides in getting Koichi to see her in a romantic manner first whilst she gives her own confession, just so he gets that she really means it and isn’t playing catch-up with Makoto out of jealousy. 15) “Ah, there we go, now the denseness is back. Makoto, can you explain to him with all words? Otherwise he won`t understand it.”- Flow charts and diagrams may also be required. 16) “HOLY SHIT SHE ACTUALLY DID SAY IT CLEARLY WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON WHY ARE WE SUDDENLY GOING AROUND ALL THE TRAPDOORS OF MISUNDERSTANDING THAT I WAS EXPECTING?!”- Makoto came back to Japan driving the plot train, and she’s making sure everybody gets on board with her.  17) “Alright, calm down there koichi, the way you worded that make it seem like you two did talk about romance or dating or whatever during those last two years, but she always acted like a fucking tsundere and avoided it.”- Guess that’s one thing to be glad we skipped over anyway. @thelreads
