Forget the diversity issues for a second because that is not the only modernism issue we have. If your period drama includes men, including refined gentlemen, swearing in front of women without it being a faux pas then it's not historically accurate, and if it features sex before marriage without this being seen as socially scandalous then it's not only innacurate but also revisionist propaganda about the past
