Somehow it’s only just occurred to me that certain flavors of Padmé discourse bother me for the exact same reason that Elwing bashing bothers me.
#i'm sure there are many people who only like one of these characters and that's fine#but there's so much overlap in the debates around padmé's death and the third kinslaying#i actually think it's interesting that padmé's arc hangs so much less on the children#than anakin's#i do think dying of the lack of will to live is a pretty absurd writing decision BUT#the insistence that padmé is /not/ dying of medical complications from her pregnancy/labor#which literally just happened#is interesting because it separates her life and death from her motherhood in some ways#it is so easy for female characters to become wholly identified with their motherhood and it would be so easy for that to happen w/ padmé#who was essentially generated in order to be luke and leia's mother#and yet there are intriguing efforts to distance her from that capacity#where anakin's arc /will/ ultimately be consumed in his fatherhood#meanwhile elwing has a lot going on that is not being elrond's and elros's mother but you wouldn't know it from her haters tbh#anghraine babbles#sw fanwank#legendarium fanwank#/#//#///#////#/////#a#b#c#d#e#padmé amidala#elwing#legendarium blogging#star wars
