in honor of me being just 9 episodes away from the magnus archives season 5 (and bored as hell) i have decided to summarize all the season 1 statements from memory in a couple sentences each. for context i finished season 1 over a year ago lmao

MAG 009: A Father’s Love

Two bits that freaked me out were Julia entering the dark room without permission, and the knocking against the door that sounded like meat slapping against it

One thing I notice about the Magnus Archives is that they tend to include unnecessarily supernatural elements. Like, why the rusty water? Not particularly scary on its own, and not really connected to other things.

One of the spookiest YA books I read was I Hunt Killers, because the idea of being trapped in a house with a man secretly killing people and is awful, especially if he’s not good at keeping it secret, especially if he’s also abusive, especially if you love him. No supernatural shit necessary to make it terrifying. The magic in MAG isn’t quite real enough to pull me in or scare me, and kind of neutralized this episode.
