I haven't seen anyone else post on Tumblr about The Story of Xingfu so I could very well be talking to myself but

the photographer has only been onscreen for like 2 minutes in episode 36 out of 40 and I'm already shipping her with Xiuyu! like what do you mean she drove at least two hours to Xingfu's inn just because she saw a photo of Xiuyu and thought she looked remarkable? what do you mean the photographer immediately wanted her to be her new model even though up till then she'd focused on landscapes and not portraits??

Xiuyu's whole family had let her go unrecognized for years, and then after finding out she was wronged they still disappointed her but suddenly here's someone who looks at her and immediately thinks she's special and desirable, immediately sees worth in her?

Also--and this is headcanon bordering on fanfiction here--reading Xiuyu as a lesbian could add a tragic layer to the good relationship she had with Wan Chuanmei before Chuanmei betrayed her. What if there was some sort of romantic tension between them before hand? That would give some weight to Chuanmei not being able to have a boyfriend all those years because she was afraid of being found out.

Also the way Xiuyu is like 28ish and still living at home, not willing to let her mom arrange a marriage for her--while nothing about that means she HAS to be a lesbian, it is exactly how I think a lesbian would react in her circumstances

Anyway I hope canon will be at least a little ambiguous for the sake of this ship because I got invested SO quickly

TTEOTM nominated in the 2023 Seoul Drama Awards!

TTEOTM is nominated in the International Series category (25+ episodes), alongside some great competition from China: A Dream of Splendor, Meet Yourself (both starring Liu Yifei), and The Story of Xingfu (with Zhao Liying).

The jury seems to have historically preferenced more mature and grounded dramas, so quite delighted to see TTEOTM in the mix!

Perhaps someone from Korea can tell us more. Here are some facts based on some quick research:

Seoul International Drama Awards (SDA) is an annual award ceremony based in Seoul, South Korea which honors excellence in television drama internationally. It's jointly organized/sponsored by the Korean government and channels KBS, MBC, SBS, EBS, CBS.

Platforms and production companies are invited to submit entries (see full list here - there really was some strong competition!) The 24 nominees above were chosen from 344 entries this year!

Judging is done by a panel of TV executives, producers, journalists/critics, academics, actors and creatives, mostly Korean with a few internationals. You can see the 2022 jury here.

The Story of Xing Fu [幸福到万家]

I feel like The Story of Xingfu just feels different once she leaves the city. And I'm aware the writer had to change Xingfu's story and it really feels that way when you're watching. Like it really makes no sense why Xiuyu is not contacting Xingfu at all, but it would if she were in the city still ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. But Xingfu is right there, and before she left the city we saw she's not really stupid.....but the show is making her dumb to make sure this storyline can go on. It's kind of frustrating. Also Xingfu repeating "all for wan, wan for all"....so cringy. I just don't see a girl who is supposed to believe in justice and fairness ever believing in that because it places the Wans above all, especially considering her history with them. Wish we could've seen what the writer actually wanted. This show felt much smarter in the beginning and during the city, but now it's feeling rather dumb. Where's the girl who hit Chuanjia on the head and demanded acknowledgement of what happened to her sister?

Updates about Bai Yu’s projects (Aug 20th, 2022)

Thank You, Doctor with Yang Mi finally got its airing licence and its episodes have changed from 48 to 40 (Initially, the drama was set to have 40 episodes and then back in the 2020 it was changed to be 48 and now back to 40). Since the drama is set to be aired on Jiangsu TV and Zhejiang TV (and Tencent, iQiyi, Youku and YoYo channel on Youtube), it'll air when the schedule of these two TV channels coincide, which according to my own calculation should be October (I could be wrong).

Take Us Home with Ma Yili (iQiyi, TV channel(s) unkown) is rumored to be aired either at the end of this year or as the drama that starts the next year.

West Out of the Yumen with Ni Ni (Tencent web drama, current literal translation, English title may be changed) has wrapped up its filming on its Dunhuang location on Aug 7th. It still needs to film the rest of the drama in Beijing and will wrap up all at the end of this month.

Bai Yu is rumored to be star in another realistic-theme drama Fu Bei De Qi Zhi (literal translation: Flag of My Father's Generation). The protagonist is a guy born and raised in the nothern forest of China who was determined to get out and work in the city, but after working for a while in the city of Guangzhou, he changed his idea and returned to the countryside. If said rumor is true, those who wish Bai Yu be in a romcom will be disappointed. The man really likes realistic-theme works😜 The project looks to have a good team, it features Liu Mingli (Doctor Qin) and Yang Xia (The Untamed) as producers, Zhao Dongling as scripwriter (Ordinary Greatness, The Story of Xingfu) and Kang Honglei as director (Soldiers Sortie, My Chief and My Regiment).

The Truth (Tecent variety show) ended its run as one of the top variety shows and the No. 1 new variety show according to stastics, so it'll most likely to have a 2nd season (for the next year). Though no idea if all 6 regular guests will participate (which is the hope of the audiences).

180-meter-tall "Dance Of Light," one of the world's most twisted towers, is unveiled in China

The megacity of Chongqing in western China has presented one of the most contorted buildings in the entire world. The 180-meter-tall "Dance of Light" skyscraper, according to the architectural firm that designed it, was influenced by northern lights. On social media, images of the magnificent structure have gained a lot of attention. According to a story in the architecture and design magazine Dezeen, the skyscraper, which is located on Xingfu Plaza in Chongqing's Jiangbei area, has two double-curved sides that give the impression that the structure is twisting. Santanu Bhattacharya, a user on Twitter, has posted some photographs of the "Dance of Light" tower. "Today saw the opening of one of the world's most stunning and twisted buildings in Chongqing, China. The 590-foot-tall Dance of Light tower, created by the architecture firm Aedas, has a twisting exterior that mimics the appearance of northern lights "In the tweet, he stated. In the business sector, where each building has been inspired by stars and other celestial phenomena, the unusual 39-story building is intended to act as a landmark. Now that everyone is screaming about the love between fairy and devil and it topping all sorts of rankings I just hope that the longest promise will do even better. I know people dislike the main girl of the novel, but I still hope the drama will be a success.

I'm hoping for the best, but they did have the advantage of summer with schools being off, many of the fans are quite young based on a recent survey 😅

Here's something else as well, is the Kuyun has added a summary of Market share of summer dramas 2022. And according to this :

Even though 'Story of Xingfu', hasn't made a lot of noise among fans, it's actual viewership is quite good, the subject deals with oppression among wealthy and powerful people in a village, and one woman's attempt to strike back. This is Zhao Liying's mainstream drama.

Immortal Samsara in 2nd place makes sense as despite having an average word of mouth, it's headed by two traffic stars that has a huge fanbase esp Yangzi.

Love between Fairy and Devil made a lot of noise, and helped push Wang Hedi to a luilang status. But viewership is limited despite data being high. Its been good for Iqiyi, and the actors, but like cdramapotato in twt will also say, China has a huge population and only a fraction of it actually uses weibo.

Coming back to Longest Promise, it will be tough to beat the "hype" of Fairy and Devil, but I'm hoping we will have a good word of mouth among drama viewers. It will be difficult as student /teacher trope has been used a lot, but Ren Min is a known good actress and Xiao Zhan always excels in costume and emotional scenes. I'm hoping the final product is something that everyone, not just fans can enjoy, fingers crossed 🙏

because LoF is the past, most of ibos watched it and moved on now watching xie yun edits because they can't look at jiejie's face anymore after she stepped on YB. And why would it reflect badly? They are respectful and tell everyone: "after LoF success WYB continues to work hard and now has new much better drama to offer, don't forget to watch when it airs". Are they supposed to be spineless and celebrate jiejie, Goose, H*ace after they did everything for LoF to tank and only one young boy kept fighting for it because he is the only one who has class and dignity? Fireflies looked down on LoF and trashed YB and they thought that jiejie's two other dramas will air, Who is the murderer and The story of Xingfu, and she will be above LoF and WYB and then oops nothing aired and now they only have LoF to brag and are claiming its success when the only ones who promoted it were YB and ibos
