on my last post i was thinking about something and i wasnt too sure about making this thread bc im a bit too tired (just generally) to make a full breakdown,, so ill go with my memory, i apologize for that,, its about jugram and bazz physical interaction

their first interaction is with uryu being appointed as the successor and bazz wants to oppose to it, jugram stops him with only blocking his way with his arm, which is pretty neat from both of them to be really calm about that despite everyone not having it

here there is no contact, but their distance is normally close for that kind of interaction (interrupting bazz from disrupting yhwach)

later they talk with a way too far distance for a personal exchange, but understandable if it wasnt the goal, later on, bazz tries to engage in a fight (or provocations) but he’s once again interrupted

no contact, big distance

iirc, there is no other jugram/bazz interaction before the twinned twilight (630) actually, im pretty sure there isnt any but correct me if im wrong lmao

oh their fight.... *lays on the ground with 3 bottles of wine*, the fight itself is like any other, they will have contact ofc, and most of their talk is from afar, so nothing really new, except for the ending which ill cover at the end

i covered that one, but their first interaction is really important in how its portrayed to us readers, jugram on the ground looking up to see bazz and bazz on the contrary looking down from up, its a really interesting intro bc its directly establish their initial dynamic and how they see themselves (less about the other), a distance yes, but very normal for strangers who just met

the distance is still kept but bazz approaches jugram since he’s the one looking for the connection so he puts himself “equal” to jugram by climbing down the tree so there is a more friendlier/familiar approach and jugram is not the type to be open

here the succession of panels is a bit weird bc between bazz tapping jugram’s back and that second panel, bazz only undid his crossbow, i just dont see why he would walk away unless if it was to pick the bunny (which isnt the case so??) its fine either way, i just wanted to point out that, bazz is still the one approaching jugram and even do contact with him with a friendly back tap, but they still remain strangers, hence their distance in the other panel

here i am not quite sure why bazz tosses the pin to jugram instead of giving him directly, but ill give it a shot saying its to not treat jugram as a baby and that if he wants to grow stronger, it needs to be his own choice, his own motivation, he needs to do the effort to pick the pin himself to prove he does want to befriend bazz and become stronger i could be wrong so feel free to give me your input

some time passes on, i already explained why even after 6 months they are still distanced physically and even emotionally, so i wont really go on this panel why it is the case, just point out they are still afar from each other

here, this part is where i just, i cant... this whole time i was talking about how they are distanced, and here, you can finally see some closeness and i dont mean in the way they act but the literal distance between them, they are so close...and you may be wondering, why does it matter? it matters SO MUCH especially in their case since it took more than just 6 months of knowing each other to finally trust each other to have them in what we call our personal bubble, you know, that distance you keep between certain people depending how close you are to them, you dont like when a stranger is close to you, and someone familiar being talked from afar can actually be condescending, and you see it here, you see how they rush into the village close to each other to introducing themselves, they clearly are inside each other’s personal bubble and its super casual, and i even think they are like that bc once in the village, you rather be close to your friend in order to not lose them but also bc you feel safer when closer, you let know people you are with this person and it brings you safety, like a home does, comfort...  and later there is even a panel where its JUGRAM who touches bazz in order to stop him from getting himself into trouble... i think its really sweet (given jugram’s background, not the situation itself) jugram is close enough to bazz (in return) to also give that physical touch (didnt matter how it was to stop him, it wasnt aggressive nor insistent, it was more of a warning, or like a pat in the back since words wouldnt reach bazz)

i think this panel is a call back to the first time they met (given how both panels have the chapter name) but this time bazz is on the ground and jugram stranding high, this not only establishes the turning point to their relationship but also the gap starting to form...

undirect contact (from the arrow), distance afar

ah this flashback... oh dear.. here you can easily assume they are very afar bc of the way panels are placed, we dont even see them one next to the other and bazz shoots an arrow, there is not even a need to be close for contact

there is also this succession of panels of jugram, he just walks away and gets more and more afar from bazz... this is very bazz pov bc he explains how jugram kept putting distance between them, how he would ignore him and this enforces the idea that there was a much bigger gap between them that time and its no wonder given what happened between them during these 3 years, i really like how its portrayed in panels 

*sigh* and here....... this is just depressing and ill never stop saying that, this whole time i was talking about distance but less contact, the only ones we see in their story is bazz tapping jugram’s shoulder and jugram holding bazz back... now we see bazz holding jugram’s shoulder, and not only that, but also, despite jugram constantly turning his back to bazz whenever he confronts him, here he willfully faces him and let him be touched, its hard for me to explain how intimate and close this is for both of them, but i totally get how it gets over people’s head very quickly

and this panels which i already covered in another analysis (the friend narrative one) but to make it short, it resumes their dynamic, how it was at first and how it ended, also the duality between them, its a really nice choice of panels to show how close and far they were at the same time

all this to come back to everything i already mentioned, the distance, my point being, their physical distance is often a direct representation to their closeness of their relationship, if you remember, i often talk about the gap, and it shows here, first time we meet them, they have a gap but its not out of unfamiliarity, when they first meet, there is the natural gap of 2 strangers, later, the gap gets smaller, after bazz loss, the gap is almost inexistent bc its the only time they got to actually know each other and get closer.. and we literally see that with how physically close they are.. after their breakup, the gap takes place, and its horribly huge, and i mean, HUGE, and its not a surprise, the way they left each other and for this long, they wouldnt even expect meet the other again and just move on already... but no, despite the gap, they still remain connected, ,and with time, the gap gets smaller and smaller like we see in the current events, without ever closing... but except, it did close, that last scene where bazz clings to jugram, this was the gap closing once again like when they were still young, and its even closer id day, bc it is so intimate and both of them are vulnerable, the gap just disappeared in that brief moment, before leaving the other again...

i think its really telling how close they were, just with how kubo draws them, but to look deeper into it really makes it tragic
