You both got off the plane. “We’re going through inspection and then from there we’ll just meet you.” You spoke into the phone with your manager.
“Did you take security with you?” You glanced around. “No. It brings too much attention. That’s the last thing I need.”
“Give me the phone.” You looked at Eli. “Eli wants to speak with you.” You handed him the phone.
You looked up at the signs and quickly walked. You were anxious to leave. The waiting made you want to bite your nails. “Yes, I’ll look after her. You know better than anyone that I wouldn’t let anything happen to my Y/N.”
“Mmm…I’ll take the necessary precautions and do what I think is best. Don’t worry. We’ll be fine. Bye.” He pocketed your phone. She can’t have any distractions. Not now.
“Eli, it’s there.” You pointed over at the crowd of people waiting to be approved to enter the country. “Don’t walk ahead. Wait by my side.” Eli pulled you closer to his side. You rubbed your face. “There’s so many people.” You sighed, walking over with Eli.
“Aww, it’ll be over before you know it. Lean on me. That way you won’t get tired.” You shook your head. Anyone would recognize you. A mask didn’t hide much, especially in your home country where your fandom could recognize you with just your silhouette.
“No.” You mumbled, reaching over to get your luggage from him. “No.” He pulled the luggage away from you. You looked up at him and narrowed your eyes. “Eli.” You scolded, reaching out with your hand. Eli smiled, looking down at you with soft eyes. “Don’t mind if I do.” He reached out with his hand and intertwined your fingers together. You huffed, trying to pull at your hand without attracting too much attention.
Meanwhile, Eli was filled with excitement. Besides being with you, his plan was set up. When the plane landed, he sent messages to these Y/N + Eli shippers who had a big following and he was sure that they would send out the message that you both were together.
You both made it out of security checkpoint. You pulled up your hoodie. Eli’s hand twitched. Should I pull it off? He grinned. I got a better idea.
He walked beside you. You were focused on leaving without being recognized. You looked around and saw a crowd of people. You didn’t think much of it. They didn’t carry signs or seemed to recognize you. Eli grinned. The anticipation was killing him.
You exited the airport. Eli smirked when he spotted the shippers. They had a camera out. Eli pulled out a mask. “Y/N. Here. Switch your mask.” You hummed, looking around for the car that was supposed to pick you up. “Later.” You spotted your bodyguard and immediately began to walk over. “Come on, Eli.”
Eli walked fast and stopped in front of you. You frowned. “What are you doing?” Eli didn’t say anything. He reached over and took over your mask. Your eyes went wide. “Eli!” You exclaimed, you couldn’t believe him. What is wrong with him?
He leaned down, his face was near yours. The shippers had spotted you too. They are cheering inside. One smack the other to take a picture before one of you moved away. “Stay still.” You stayed still. He smiled as he put the mask on you. Click. Click. Click. They had taken pictures that looked as if he was kissing you.
“There.” He intertwined your fingers and led you to the car. Click. Click. Click. You furrowed your eyebrows. What was that? The trunk was opened. “You go inside. I’ll put the baggage away.” Eli told you, opening the door for you. “Okay.” You got inside the car. Click. Click. Click. They were capturing every single moment. To them this was big news. Y/N + Eli was confirmed. They couldn’t wait to prove everyone wrong. They had been right about the close relationship.
Eli closed the trunk and got inside the car. He rubbed the back of his neck. “Sorry. I just wanted you to switch the mask. You know how sensitive your skin is.” He hung his head low. You bit the inside of your cheek. What is it? Maybe I’m overthinking. For once, I felt weirded out by his behavior. “It’s alright. No harm was done. Put on your seatbelt.” Although you couldn’t see it, he smirked. Everything was falling into place.
He was sure that within the next hour or so, the rumors would spread like a wildfire. My Y/N. It was inevitable. We belong together. I belong with you.

AN: Miriam is in her groupie era 😌😌😌 and Jack and Miriam found out about something that happened four years ago

"I can't believe this is the first time you fly me in first class." Miriam told Jack as she settled in her window seat.
"This isn't first class. We're in business class." He said, sitting next to her in the aisle.
"Oh that explains a lot," she mumbled, unimpressed at the seating.
Jack and Miriam were currently boarding a flight from Sydney to Melbourne. Miriam had finally finished filming and joined Jack down unda for his Australia and New Zealand shows. She had a few weeks off before she went to Atlanta to go film a mini series with Aaron Taylor Johnson. She auditioned for the role back in May and didn't get a response until a few days ago. Her mom was also cast and was going to play her mom. Miriam was excited because she always wanted to work with her mom. Even if their characters don't have the greatest bond.
"I like these." Jack commented, bringing her hand up to inspect her nails. "When did you get them done?"
Miriam gave him an unamused look and pulled her hand back. Jack knew when she got them done, he was on facetime with her the entire time.
After she finished filming, she made a stop in New York before heading to meet up with him in Paris because they were flying from there to Dubai to Perth, Australia. In New York she met up with her nail girl, who apparently was also Jack's nail tech before the couple even met, and got her nails done. She decided on getting a nude almond-shaped nails with black, white and grey swirls. It had been months since she got acrylics. She had a month off before filming and wasn't going to be doing anything too demanding.
She also got some blonde highlights for shits and giggles. What she wasn't expecting for them to cause so much controversy. When she landed in Paris she went straight to where Jack was performing. People filmed them hugging, not knowing it was her, and quickly assumed Jack was cheating. The crowd was split fifty-fifty when it was time for him to go on stage, half getting into his performance and the other half not happy to be there. It wasn't until the following morning that everyone saw why people were upset. All the gossip sites ran with the story so Miriam posted a selfie with 'in my Shakira in the La Tortura mv era' because her hair resembled Shakira's hair in that music video to her Instagram Stories. On her actual Instagram, she posted with Urban, photoshopping them over the Olsen Twins in a picture of their movie 'Passport to Paris' poster because he was the only close to her hair color.
"You swear you haven't seen them wrapped around your dick the last few days." She said, opening her Mrs Fields cookie tin.
She was at a small shop in the airport and bought the largest size box. Those were her favorite cookies, besides the ones Claudia makes for her. In her opinion, they could give Crumbl a run for their money.
"Not gonna lie, I'm still getting used to your hair and I was trying not to think that it reminded me of Urb's hair from a few years ago." He said, biting into a M&Ms cookie.
"You're thinking of your best friend while I'm sucking you off?" Miriam made a grossed out face.
An elderly woman gave them a judgmental scoff as she walked past them after hearing Miriam. Jack snorted, making Miriam roll her eyes at him.
The flight was roughly two hours long. They, Jack and Miriam, The Homies (who were touring with Jack) and their respective teams landed around noon. They waited until the other people in flight got off to get off. They went through a separate way to get to baggage claim. Once they went through airport security and everything else, they were in a shuttle bus en route to the hotel they were staying at for the next three days.
Miriam was texting her parents to check in as her and Jack rode the elevator to their suite. Even after moving out, her parents insisted on knowing wherever she went and needed constant updates from her. She would have called but the time zones still confused her so she sent them a text in case it was the middle of the night.
"You sure you don't wanna go see Aitch right?" Jack asked as the doors opened to their floor.
Like Jack, Aitch, his British rapper friend, was also doing festival shows and concerts down in Australia and New Zealand. He had a show in Melbourne tonight and after his show, Aitch was having an after party. He invited Jack and co a few days ago when they were in Sydney for Splendour in the Grass. Urban and the guys agreed, but Jack was still undecided which meant so was Miriam.
"I'm following you around. If you wanna see him, we can go. If you don't wanna see him, then we don't have to." Miriam said, taking the keycard out from inside her phone case.
"Good because I'm taking you out." He nodded, holding the door open for her to go in first.
He had already booked a private tour at an art museum and a private dinner for them at the hotel's rooftop. The hotel had an igloo dining feature since it was winter time in Australia. It was for them to celebrate their one year anniversary. They never agreed on an exact date, but they became an official couple some time in late July of last year. One thing they agreed on was that they've been exclusive to each other the second they met. Jack wanted to do something nice for Miriam because she deserved it and because they haven't had alone time in a long time.
"Where are we going?" She asked him curiously.
"Damn, I can't surprise you?"
"I mean yeah, but I just wanted to know if we were going to be outside." Miriam said, shrugging off one of Jack's many winter coats.
She had been living off his suitcases because she didn't believe Claudia when she told her that Australia and New Zealand were actually cold between June through September. Miriam genuinely thought it was going to be similar to Florida in the winter and packed a lot of summer clothes. When she landed in Perth she was shocked that it was cold like in San Francisco. Luckily she did some shopping in Sydney and got some basics like leggings, jeans, and a few long sleeves.
"We're gonna be indoors then we'll be outdoors." He said hugging her from behind. He kisser her neck, dry humping her as he said, "Then my dick is gonna be in and outta you."
*
Miriam’s feet were killing her. She had the genius idea of wearing six inch Christian Louboutin strappy heels to a museum where she and Jack got a three hour tour of the entire museum that was the size of a mall. In her defense it was the only pair of shoes that went with her outfit.
She wore a black with clusters of small red flowers bustier and skirt set that had came with fingerless gloves that went up passes her elbows. The set was originally an ill-fitting maxi dress that was very loose in the chest area when Miriam bought it. She altered it herself creating a fitted cropped bustier and maxi skirt that went with her height. With the fabric she cut off, she made the long fingerless gloves.
"This concludes our tour, I hope you enjoyed it." The tour guide told Jack and Miriam.
"We did thanks." Jack smiled at them.
The tour guide led them to the entrance and thanked them once more. Miriam sat in the nearest chair and sighed contently.
"You good?" Jack asked her.
"No, my feet hurt from all that walking." She pouted.
"Who told you to wear them to this?" He asked.
"Certainly not you because you wouldn't even tell me where we were going." She muttered.
"I'mma order an Uber then get our coats." He said, typing away on his phone.
Miriam nodded and handed him the two slips the coat person gave them when they checked in their coats. She was twisting in her seat, cracking her back, when she realized she was sitting in front of the gift shop. She quickly got up and texted Jack that she went inside the gift shop.
She loved buying books from museums or places she's been to. She also collected a bunch of fashion history books. Miriam just loved having them around her house. Not only for aesthetic purposes but also because she loved immersing herself in them and learning.
She found the main one for the museum and several other ones from specific exhibitions. She also grabbed a few books about plants, animals, and flowers. She paid and nearly ran into Jack at the entrance.
"All set?" He asked her, taking the bag so she could put on her giant coat.
"Yeah," she nodded, zipping her coat all the way up to her chin.
"Our uber is three minutes out." Jack said, reaching for her hand.
They exited the museum and stood in the pick up area. Not long after a black SUV pulled up. Jack approached the car and asked who they were here for. When the driver answered with his name, he motioned Miriam to go in.
She leaned her head against his shoulder and read an email her mom sent her while her and Jack were on their tour. She clicked on the attachment. It was a draft of an article Sydney Sweeney did for the Hollywood Reporter for her Emmy nominations. A lot of actors do interviews after getting nominated as part of an Emmy campaign to get the academy to vote for them. Miriam also got nominated for her role in the mini series she did with Jenna Ortega, but she wasn't doing any Emmy campaigns. She was just honored to be nominated.
Miriam skimmed the article, rolling her eyes where Sydney defended Cassie for fucking her best friends abuser. Her eyes landed on a paragraph where Sydney talked about how it's unfair about people having connections being able to walk in while she had been busting her ass for years. She went on talking about how she isn't privileged enough to take six months off from working to travel with her rapper boyfriend like a certain actress who looks like her mom. Sydney went on about this certain actress for a few more paragraphs, shaming her for coming from a rich family, but ended with her being happy that she actually got a role her and the certain actress were auditioning for.
Miriam frowned. There's no way Sydney was talking about her. Sure she fit most of the criteria and they both auditioned for a role that went to the blonde actress. But why did Sydney even mention her? Miriam literally minded her business and knew her place when it came to auditions. She was fully aware and acknowledged the privilege she had because of who her parents are.
She went back to the email and read what her mom sent her. It was a summary of the article, explaining that it was going to be published, but the author had worked with Isabela and sent her a draft of the article as a courtesy. Her mom also asked if she wanted to make a statement regarding what Sydney said. Miriam replied to her mom, asking her to leave it alone. She didn't have the energy to start some unnecessary beef with someone that doesn't affect her life.
She felt Jack shake her shoulder. "Bro, I've been calling your name."
"Huh?" Miriam blinked at him.
"We're back at the hotel." He said.
"Oh shit." She mumbled, scooting to the door. She turned to the driver and thanked them.
Jack placed his arms over shoulders and guided them to their suite. He was dropping off their things before heading to the roof for their private dinner. He could tell something was on Miriam's mind. She never missed a chance to talk about what she bought at places. He deduced it must've had to do with what she was reading on the drive to the hotel.
"You okay?" He asked her gently.
"Not really," she sighed, hugging herself. "My mom got an article sent to her that Sydney Sweeney did and she spent a good chunk of it shading me because of who my parents are."
"What the fuck? Why?" Jack frowned.
"Because I don't need to work and it's unfair that she can't afford a gate around her house and she needs to stay booked to afford it." She said in a snippy tone.
"Come here." He said, opening his arms. Miriam begrudgingly walked to him. He hugged her tightly and kissed her temple. "Fuck her and fuck who else has shit to say about you. You're one of the most hardworking people I've met in the industry. You're actually aware of the privilege you have unlike several people we know who thrive off it and act completely shocked that they and their families have connections. I'm sorry that she came for you unwarranted like that. I can't speak for you, for obvious reasons, but I want you to know that you're a fucking badass, Miriam. Last year you filmed three movies and a tv show and this year you won your first Oscar and Grammy and you just got an Emmy nomination. That shit doesn't come solely for being the daughter of people in the industry. Those awards and nominations are a result of your hard work. Sure your connections helped you out in the beginning but in the end your talent why you deserved it. I don't want you. I don't want you feeling bad. Okay?"
"Okay.” Miriam nodded tearfully.
Jack wiped the tears and leaned down to kiss her. "Let's get going. Our reservation is in fifteen minutes."
They went down to the lobby, there was a separate elevator that led guests to the restaurants and lounges in the hotel, and took the elevator to the rooftop bar. Miriam’s face lit up when she saw the igloos. They were a dozen igloos, each the size of one of those sheds that Costco sold that look like mini homes. Though these were shaped like igloos.
Jack checked in with the hostess and they led him and Miriam to an igloo for two. Inside there was a small velvet couch with a coffee table in the middle. Across from that was a small dining table with two chairs.
"Any drinks to start the night?" They asked Jack and Miriam.
"Water for now." Miriam said.
"I'll take sparkling water." Jack said.
"I'll bring those in a bit. Here are the menus." The hostess said, placing them on the dining table.
"Thank you." Jack and Miriam said in unison.
The hostess nodded and walked out of the igloo. Miriam shrugged off her coat and placed it behind a chair before making her way to the couch. Jack did the same and took the menus so they could look at them. He sat next to her and draped her legs over one of his thighs.
"This is nice." Miriam said, leaning her head on his shoulder.
"Yeah? Not too cheesy?" Jack asked nervously.
"Oh it's corny as hell," she said, making him laugh. "But that's not a bad thing. I rarely got to do dates like this in the past, so I really appreciate this. And it's also a change of pace. The past few weeks we've been jumping from location to location, going to show after show."
"I know we've been together the past few weeks but I feel like we haven’t spent time together. Just us, you know." He said, placing his hand on Miriam's knee.
"Aw you're a big ol' shoftie." She said, kissing him.
"Don't say that you're gonna ruin my street cred."
"Bro, you're a white guy from the suburbs. You don't have street cred."
"Shut up."
Miriam cackled.
A server came by with their drinks. They took Jack and Miriam's orders. Jack got a steak with a side of veggies and mashed potatoes. Miriam ordered the pan fried chorizo and ricotta gnocchi. They also ordered fish and chips for their appetizers.
"Oh, so my friend Malia is in Auckland and I haven't seen her in a while. Is it okay that I invite her to your show?" Miriam said, dipping a fry in tatar sauce.
"Yeah, what's her full name so I can have Neelam add her to the list. Calum and Claudia are also going, right?"
She nodded, covering her mouth to chew.
"Cal just finished touring and they're meeting Cal's mom there." She took a sip of water and mumbled, "my friend's name is Malia Obama."
Jack choked on his bite of food. "Did you say Malia Obama? You know the president's daughter?"
"Our families go back." She shrugged. "My parents endorsed Barack in both elections and they all became friends sometime in between. My family and I even attended that dinner where Malia gave Sasha a thumbs up when they met Blake Lively's husband."
"Who don't you know?" He asked her genuinely.
"Gabriel Iglesias."
Jack laughed loudly, shaking his head.
The rest of dinner was peaceful. After they ate, a few servers cleared the table and brought out a dessert charcuterie board with a small fondue pot. They also had a drink tray with hot chocolate with things for them to customize their drinks. Despite eating all of that in a span of three hours, that didn't stop them from wanting to fuck.
"Get naked." Jack said, kicking the door shut. "But keep the heels on."
***
"That's too petty, Claudia." Miriam said, taking her phone from her best friend.
"I mean she did spend half of her article talking about you." Malia pointed out. “It was like she was looking for an excuse to mention you without really mentioning you.”
"See, Malia agrees with me." Claudia said, snatching Miriam's phone.
They were backstage at the Trusts Arena where Jack was going to perform. A few days after Sydney Sweeney's article was released, Miriam had received news that she was going to replace the blonde actress in a sapphic romcom starring Hailee Steinfeld as her love interest. It was the role she mentioned in her article that she beat Miriam.
Now Miriam was deciding on what should be her caption for her post. Claudia and Malia were suggesting she take the petty route and caption it with 'I have never ever been happier'. She decided to post a picture of her and Hailee Steinfeld from the 2018 Met Gala with 'Can't wait to work with you Hails <3' to her Instagram Stories.
"You're no fun." Claudia said, reading the caption.
"I'm not risking it. This is probably gonna be the only chance I get to make out with Hailee." Miriam said loud enough for Jack to hear.
"What's this about you making out with people that aren't me?" He arched an eyebrow at her.
"It's for work." She reassured him.
Jack eyed her suspiciously. "If you say so." He turned to Malia and the couple that couldn't keep their hands to themselves. "Y'all good? Is there something you want us to get?"
"I'm good, thank you." Malia said.
"We're good too." Calum answered for him and Claudia.
"When was the last time the three of us hung out?" Claudia asked Malia and Miriam.
"Like four years ago at Outside Lands but Miriam ditched us to hook up with some guy who was making her laugh at Future's after party." Malia said.
"Yesss," Claudia nodded. "Miriam was laughing at everything he was telling her. I remember the guy was obviously trying to get a Miriam but he was nice enough to make small talk with me and Malia. He asked me what I was studying and I was like education then he was like–"
"That's where the money is." Jack finished for her.
"Yeah, how'd you– no!" She exclaimed. Claudia opened Calum's jacket and grabbed her phone from the inside pocket. "There's no way."
"What?" Miriam asked.
"Jack was the guy you fucked." Claudia said, quickly scrolling through her snapchat memories.
"Claudia por favor." She laughed in disbelief. Miriam turned to Jack. "Were you at Outside Lands back in 2018?"
"He performed in the morning and Drama got us into Future's after party." Urban said, opening a bag of chips. He pointed at Jack. "This fucker ended up leaving with some girl who couldn't stop laugh– holy shit! You guys fucked."
"We did not. I would have remembered Jack." Miriam said.
"He didn't look like this." Urban patted Jack's cheek affectionately. "He couldn't grow a beard back then."
"Man fuck off." Jack murmured.
"I have like twenty videos of that party." Claudia said.
She played the first video. Her and Malia were vibing to the music while Miriam filmed them. A voice in the background, clearly Jack, began talking to Miriam. She burst into a fit of giggles after one cheesy joke. The video ended with Claudia taking her phone back because Miriam was filming the ground and laughing. Claudia played another video where Jack, who appeared in the video, was promoting his upcoming mixtape Loose and telling them that it was coming out in a few days. In the background of that video Miriam was swearing up and down that she was going to listen to it. The last video was of Claudia and Malia saying that they were waiting for their designated driver to stop making out and the camera flipped to Jack and Miriam heavily making out.
"Yo, does this look like Jack?" Urban asked Quiiso, who happened to walk past them.
"What do you mean? That is Jack." He said. "He never took off that Generation Now chain back then."
"Now, who does the girl look like?" He asked.
"Miriam." Quiiso answered. He took a double take. "Ain't this the time Jack hooked up with a girl at Outside Lands and he was devastated that he never got her name at Future's after party."
"Aw you were devastated." Miriam gushed, nudging Jack's shoulder.
“Not anymore.” he murmured as his cheeks turned red.
The topic changed and eventually The Homies went on stage. Then it was Jack’s turn to perform. A few hours later Jack and Miriam were back in their suite. Miriam was in bed replying to Claudia because she and Calum dropped Malia back at where she was staying and that they made it to where Calum’s mom’s place was. Jack came out of the bathroom in some pj’s with its accompanying long sleeve, drying his curls with a towel.
“That was Claudia, she said everyone is back home.” Miriam said, rolling to her side to connect her phone to the charger.
Jack hummed in response and climbed in bed. He opened her legs so he could lay in between them. He liked laying on Miriam because she would play with his curls.
“I still can’t believe we hooked up all those years ago.” he said, opening the one button that was fastened on her silk pajama top. He kissed between the valley of her breasts. “I would have remembered your cackle.”
“What cackle?” she asked, pushing him off so she could take off her silk pants.
“‘What cackle?’ You know damn well which one.” Jack said, pulling down his pajama pants. He brought her hips close to his. “Now let me fuck the giggles outta you.”

I don't care enough about this to make my own poll(s), but I feel that worst airports poll should have been separated into Worst Airports for Arrivals, Worst Airports for Departures, and Worst Airports for Connections, because these are all very different things. Like, I voted for LAX because the Arrivals experience sucks so much ass, and also because it's pretty hideous and the traffic situation is awful. But tbh I've never really had any problems with domestic or international departures from LAX. Like, you can get dropped off at your terminal, and from there it's pretty straightforward, and I've never spent more than 20 minutes or so getting through security. I've never had delays of more than an hour or so there either.
Arrivals though...UGH. Just a heinous experience all around. Total fuckin' chaos once you exit the terminal and attempt to figure out where the fuck you should go, if you're not being picked up by someone, and if you ARE being picked up by someone, still stressful thanks to the traffic and the exhaust fumes. If you're using rideshare, you either need to walk your ass to the whole separate parking lot for rideshare, or take the shuttle. There's multiple shuttles and buses for cheaper public transport but since the Metro extension isn't finished yet, the many options are confusing. Godspeed if you've parked in another parking lot: you will have to navigate the confusing signage to figure out where the hell your shuttle pick up spot is. If you parked in the economy lot, they helpfully tell you to follow the pink signs, however, MULTIPLE shuttles use these stops so you have to make sure you're getting on the right bus. The whole experience manages to feel grimy too. And of course, the horseshoe layout means that if you miss an exit/stop, you will have to ride ALL THE WAY AROUND again.
Literally the worst arrivals experience. Especially compared to all the European airports I've been to where the arrivals experience is basically less than 30 mins at customs, baggage claim, then walk right out to an easy to spot taxi stand or the airport transfer guy holding up a sign with my name on it.
Also, a special fuck you to Frankfurt for its particular awfulness for connections! The closest I have ever come to missing a flight is thanks to Frankfurt having TWO people at customs, for a line of HUNDREDS, and only after an increasingly stressful 30-40 minutes of waiting in that line, did someone finally bother to be like, "so hey, whose connecting flight is leaving basically now?" and skip us to a separate, shorter line, after which we had to RUN to make it to our gate, which was naturally ALL THE WAY AT THE OTHER END OF THE AIRPORT, and we arrived on the plane wheezing and sweaty, mere minutes before they closed the gate and departed. That flight was AT LEAST a third empty, presumably because so many other people did not make it through Frankfurt's gamut of trials.
Istanbul Airport can also be terrible for connections because it is ENORMOUS but tbf if you're flying Turkish Air they will help you out with fast lanes and such through customs, though they also had the MOST bafflingly thorough security at the gate. Like, AFTER customs and security to get to the right terminal, there was a whole new round of security at the gate itself, which involved another passport and boarding pass check, and then OPENING UP OUR CARRYONS for physical inspection by security people. No idea if this is normal for flights going to the US there, it did not happen the first time I flew from Istanbul back to the US.
Shoutout to connecting through Dublin though: even this past weekend when we were stuck on the plane for 40 mins because of a problem with the airbridge, we still made our connecting flight with a few minutes to spare thanks to all Aer Lingus flights flying out of Terminal 2 and USA preclearance being speedy and straightforward.
My favorite airport remains ONT though. So small, so calm, so usually (comparatively) empty. A very chill arrivals and departure experience. Not many great food options though iirc. Alas I do not fly into or out of it anymore now that I live in LA. I live less than 30 mins from LAX, so even though it sucks, I always fly into and out of it now.

I Bought A(nother) Boattail (Part 4)
I’m on my way to the car dealership where the Riviera awaits...the GPS tells me it’s going to be an hour and 5 minutes to my destination.  The USB charging port in the rental works, and I’ve got my phone plugged in even before leaving the rental garage.  I arrive at 3:37pm, I shaved 5 minutes off the estimated time.  My flight home leaves at 7, I need to be at the airport no later than 5:30, I need to leave here by 4:15.  38 minutes to look at the car.  K is there waiting, the car is outside, beautiful, gleaming, gorgeous.  K greets me, and I waste no time getting into looking at the car.  I make small talk with K while I do my (extremely) cursory inspection.  All I really have time to do is visual inspection as it sits.  The car isn’t going up on a rack, I’m not pulling wheels off, I’m not checking compression, timing, engine vacuum, nothing.  I’m going to have time to check for rust. I take a small retrieval magnet and a microfiber cloth and run it along the rockers, lower fenders and quarter panels of the car.  I find ONE spot of filler.  That’s really impressive, only the one spot, and it’s less than 3 square inches in size.  I check all around the back glass, and find no rust or filler.  K points out the broken taillamp lens on the driver’s side, all in all, this car is SOLID.  The engine compartment is as shown in the photos, I make no comment about the color choices involved.  (Why did the engine get painted light Ford Blue, it ought to be Buick Red?!)  K invites me to get behind the wheel, and I do, whipping it out on the road in front of the dealership, I waste no time punching it up to speed and maybe a little over.  K and I keep chatting while I’m cataloging what I notice. The car pulls to the right when driving, and pulls to the left when braking.  “That balances things out, doesn’t it?” K says.  Yeah, ok.  We go back to the dealership and I hand over my deposit.  K runs it through the counter and we walk back out to the car.  There are some cool cars here, I take a few moments to appreciate them.  K is into cars, having done some major events with promotions companies, and shares some of the history of the cars in inventory.  Recalling my trip out, I ask if I can leave my impact wrench in the car, and have it transported back.  Sure, that’s no problem, I put it under the driver’s seat of the Riviera, K walks me back to my rental.  Asking K if there were any good bbq places on the way back, I get a few suggestions, pop those into the GPS and conclude there’s not enough time to detour.  Too bad, I’m hungry.  So far, all I’ve had to eat today is that Coke from the beverage service on the flight out.  I hop in the rental, plug the phone back in (47%), and begin the drive back to the airport.  I’m almost to the rental car return when I realize I need to fill it up.  Detouring for that, I top off the car and find myself at the entrance to the rental car return behind a couple who are reluctant to drive over the folding spikes.  I wait, giving enough room for them to make up their mind (forward or back, people, forward or back!), when they decide prudence is the better part of valor and back out.  I whip the car over the folding spikes to return the rental, and 5 minutes later, I’m on the shuttle to the airport, sans impact wrench, which will follow me back home via enclosed auto transport.  It’s 5:15, I’m on schedule, and after I clear security, I’ll have time to grab a bite to eat before boarding.  I make it to the terminal via the rental shuttle, and by 20 to 6pm, I’m standing in front of another TSA agent, learning that my carry-on was AGAIN going to have to be checked, DESPITE leaving my electric impact wrench in the Riviera.  Seriously?  Seriously?!  C’mon, man.  Why didn’t my departing airport explain these things to me, I could have left the remaining offending ( >7″ are not permitted) tools in the Riviera.  I ask to speak to a supervisor, the supervisor hears me out, then with firmness and compassion escorts me from the screening area to check my bag.  Or surrender my tools. ($200 ratchet, $100 timing light, yeah, no.)  I’m tired, I’m beaten, nothing on the trip has gone right, and at no point would throwing a fit have done any good.  I’m so defeated.  I trudge over to a self-serve check-in kiosk and check my carry-on.  Once I pay the $30, the kiosk asks if I want to check my carry-on luggage for free.  For free?!  For FREE?!  Are you (censored) kidding me?!  I JUST PAID $30 to check my carry on, GIMME MY MONEY BACK!  No, that didn’t happen.  I took the printout from the kiosk, wrapped it around my bag, and handed it to the airline representative at baggage check-in.  Back through security, and I’m really feeling the day’s effects.  No food, frustration after disappointment after debacle after fiasco.  I forget to take my wallet out of my pants when I go through the microwave screener.  They ask if I forgot, I realize belatedly that I had, and with an eye toward where my shoes and belt were, flip it over the plexiglass barrier separating me from my stuff into the bin with my shoes and belt.  The agents didn’t say anything, as the bin hadn’t gone through the X-ray machine yet.  I was so over it.  Finally I clear security. It’s 6:15, the plane departs in 45 minutes, and I still have to walk to the gate.  I arrive at the gate, passing every food place I would have loved to stop at, but couldn’t because the lines at them were all pretty long. I made it in time for boarding.  No time for food, the phone is at 60%, I’m carrying a battery (again) and a charging cable (again).  This time I’m seated at the front of the aircraft, so I get to board early, and there’s even room for my (nonexistent) carry-on.  The rest of the departure goes smoothly, and I’m hopeful that there’ll be food for purchase, as the flight doesn’t include a meal.

Headed west to Alaska
Alaska Traveler 55
I started writing about our first adventure in Old Harbor, Alaska in 2016 when my husband took a teaching job in the native Alutiiq village off the road system on Kodiak Island. Fast forward to 2020. We spent two years in Old Harbor, back in Minneapolis for two years and decided to return to Alaska in search of a less complicated life in a small community surrounded by nature. I sit here this morning a bit more than a week after our arrival, looking out at the ocean from my new digs. We are about a block from the ocean and I can see a spruce covered island a little ways out and the occasional fishing boat passing by in the drizzling rain.
The journey to get here has been complicated by a pandemic, truck issues, and the uncertainty of what this new place would be like. As we did in our last adventure, we moved sight unseen to a house save a few grainy photos, knowing that this time, our place would be unfurnished.
So here we go again, this time at 55, I’m starting in a new community, a new house and some new adventures worth sharing.
8/2/2020
Today starts our journey back to Alaska. We are moving to a new village on Annette Island in Southeast Alaska, to Metlakatla, the only Native Alaskan reservation in Alaska. It has not been easy to figure out how to navigate such a move during a pandemic, added to this our daughter’s own battle with Covid-19 in June and July.
Our original plan was to drive our truck to Bellingham, WA to catch the 30 hour ferry to Ketchikan, and then a second 45 minute ferry to Metlakatla. The Corona virus, however, had other plans. We found out in order to get on the ferry we would have to have a negative Covid test within 72 hours of our departure. This meant finding a location in Montana or Washington with a quick result turn around time. After numerous searches and calls, it turned out that Montana’s asymptomatic test results were taking 30 days so they decided to stop testing. We purchased an approved mail-in self-administered test for $100 each but their results are back in a minimum of 4-5 days. This meant the ferry was just not an option for us.
A week from departure, we booked a barge from Seattle for the truck, flights for us from Seattle to Ketchikan and shuffled hotel bookings. We also had to re-think packing as all the items on the truck would not arrive until up to a week after we arrive in the village. We’d be under day quarantine and couldn’t shop at the grocery. I put dishwasher soap in my boots, a couple of rolls of toilet paper and sheets in my suitcase.
We traveled to Bismarck, North Dakota today, wearing masks at each rest stop and washing hands frequently. All people were wearing masks in Minnesota, and that changed as we crossed over the North Dakota line. Our hotel doesn’t seem to have many guests, but some were not wearing masks. We walked nearly a mile to get Mexican food and ate it back at our hotel. The restaurant had inside seating and while staff were wearing masks, the patrons were not.
8/3/2020
This morning we got up and carefully prepared our self-administered Covid-19 test. This required correctly labeling, collecting the nasal specimen and finding a UPS dropbox on our way out of town. We stopped at a co-op near our hotel with a great selection of items for our tailgate breakfast of coconut yogurt, blueberries and granola. One thing that the Broadband employee in Metlakatla requested when I called to set up our service, was some large Ball jar lids. Each year, families can up to a case of fish and this year the lids that normally go for $3.50 a dozen, are $12 on Amazon. I’ve checked several Menard’s in search of lids, including today in Bismarck. There were only empty shelves both here and in Minneapolis.
The drive was rather similar to our eastern North Dakota landscape until we reached the Badlands with pastel sedimentary rock outcroppings. We passed Hebron that boasted the Historic Ft. Sauerkraut and a large cutout of a baby, dinosaur and buffalo fossils. Upon entering Montana, we had to stop and have the canoe inspected, ensuring we wouldn’t be bringing in unwanted marine life.  The rest stops were farther apart, and at gas stations, we noticed that not only were people NOT wearing masks, they were looking at us FOR wearing masks.
8/4/2020
No trip is complete without some sort of car trouble. Last night when Mike tried to move the car, it was dead. Maybe we left the lights on, or need a new battery. It could be the alternator at worst. A massive rain descended on the Radisson parking lot and we decided to wait until morning to figure it out. That makes for less than ideal sleep, and there was a fair amount of tossing and turning. In the morning Mike went to the battery store and got and installed the new battery with less than optimal tools. Of course the ones he needed were somewhere toward the back of the truck.  We re-tied down the canoe and started off. The battery light came on again, and as a precaution, we decided to stop in at an auto repair shop to see if they might be able to tighten down the battery. A wisened mechanic with a long beard came out and checked our connection after untying the canoe. Turns out the worst case scenario-the alternator. He held up four fingers when Mike asked is he’d be able to fix it today:  $400. Now we are sitting on a bench outside the shop on a busy road, watching all the other trucks go by and glad that we built in a cushion and a short trip today. The truck just pulled up finished in less than an hour and 15 minutes.
Back on the road, this our short day, hoping to get into Missoula early enough to find some dinner. Those plans were derailed as we rolled into Butte as our gauges stopped working. We pulled into the Thriftway gas station and our battery was dead…again. I called AAA and they said they would send out a truck by 5:00pm and tow us to their shop in Helena (an hour and a half away.) We knew we wouldn’t get to Missoula with this scenario and opted to call around and see if we could find another shop since it was almost closing time. Mike found a shop half a block away and they came and towed the truck back to their station. The AAA tow truck pulled up just as our truck was loaded onto the other tow truck.
Turns out our first replacement battery was bad and it fried the new alternator. We had to get a new battery and alternator and there were calls to the previous repair shop crediting us with the alternator, but still we had to pay for a new battery and the installation. The mechanics were helpful and stayed late to get our car back on the road by 6:30pm. We had 125 miles to travel to get to Missoula…back on the road again.
8/5/2020
Excited to have our truck fixed and get on our way to Washington state, we checked the oil, transmission fluid, battery connections and retied the canoe. Today we’d be doing our major shopping in Spokane, getting dry goods to load the truck as things are so much cheaper in the Lower 48.  Mike turned the key to start the truck and the familiar sound of the past two days-click-click-click signaled that our battery was dead.  Untie the canoe, jump the battery, and head for the nearest service station. We knew the drill.  We stopped by 2 stations before someone was able to assist. The battery we got in Missoula was also a dud. This means we had to purchase battery #3 in less than 24 hours. This time no cheap battery, AC Delco all the way. ARGH!! We were able to return battery #1 for a refund, before heading out and hoping that this would be our last time at a service station.
We made our way through Idaho and stopped in Coeur d’Alene for gas and lunch. The main shopping and restaurant strip was filled with people, not wearing masks. We opted to eat our own food at an empty rest stop instead. We did get to Costco in Spokane and shopped in a busy store with the temperature at 93 degrees. We threw our stuff in the back of an almost full truck and drove to Ellensburg, about 100 miles from Seattle.
8/6/2020
After a night of re-shuffling our stuff and getting the truck re-packed for it’s barge journey, we drove through the misty rain to Seattle, stopping at Safeway for more last minute provisions, and a bit of gas. To go on the barge, the tank had to be less than a quarter tank, so we guessed how much we’d need before leaving it at Samson Tug and Barge. We also stopped at the Asian Grocery to load up on sauces, oils, noodles and other items (cases of beer) we’d likely not find in Metlakatla.
Samson Tug inspected the truck and we made sure everything we needed for the next week was in our suitcase, then the barge service called a taxi and gave us a voucher for the trip to the Seattle airport. The airport was not busy and we didn’t have to wait in line for baggage drop or security. Most people were wearing masks in the terminal, but not all. Our flight was uneventful and we arrived in Ketchikan, picked up our bags and waited in line to show the negative Covid test results from our mail-in test that had arrived the night before. This gave us the “golden ticket” or in this case, the orange ticket that said we had had a negative test. The airstrip in Ketchikan is on Gravina Island and there is a 5 minute ferry ride to get to the town.
Most people had to test in the parking lot on the Ketchikan side if they weren’t able to produce a negative test within 72 hours. We found the shuttle to our hotel and were happy to be closer to our new home.
8/7/2020
One more day to secure provisions before heading out on the ferry to our final destination. The shuttle took us to the grocery and furniture store, and our driver was from Metlakatla. We loaded up on meat, veggies and other perishables which we put in the large soft-sided Polar cooler that my brother gave us. It kept everything frozen and cold for the rest of the day. Back at the hotel while getting ready to leave, we saw US Senator Lisa Murkowski and spoke to her and had our picture taken by her brother.  She is a Republican Senator, but has been put on President Trump’s bad list and Mike thanked her for her independent voice.
All our groceries and luggage are loaded into the shuttle and we go across the street from the hotel to get onto the ferry. We have a cart to schlep everything down a long gang-plank and onto shelves in the ferry bow. The cars are loaded on and we spend the next 45 minutes on calm waters navigating through the channel of islands until we reach Metlakatla. We dock and unload our stuff, get told to quarantine for 14 days and hitch a ride with the school superintendent.  The ride from the ferry dock to town takes about 20 minutes. The previous dock was close to town but required an hour and a half to get there.  Ferry services run twice a day so technically you can go into town and return in the same day. Fare is $58 roundtrip per person.
We are dropped off at the new turquoise, 4 bedroom home we’ll be living in. More next week about our first week in Metlakatla.

Reddie with “I missed you.” and “Kiss me.”?
This was super fun to write so thank you for the prompt!!! It’s taken from this list
AO3 link
It was like the universe had been testing him for some reason and Eddie wasn’t sure how much more of it he could take. After finally getting together with his long term crush and best friend, Richie Tozier, Eddie was finally looking forward to spending the entire summer with his friends, and spending time with Richie as boyfriends. They even had a plan set out between them all, as well as all the things they were going to do over the course of the summer.
Then his mother had to go and announce that he was to spend the whole 10 weeks of his summer vacation with his aunt in Michigan. There was no arguments, Eddie was going and that was final. There was a part of him that hoped it was just a weird coincidence, but Eddie knew deep down that his mother must have known about him and Richie, and this was her master plan at keeping them apart for the summer.
Of course, Richie was pissed, as were the rest of the losers. Eddie’s departure put a dent in their summer plans, but Eddie assured them that things will be easier now, as they had an even number. He said all this with a huge smile, even though he was dying inside. His summer plans were screwed and he’d have to spend ten weeks doing old people things that were extremely boring.
His suspicions were proven to be correct the second he touched down in Michigan. His aunt was there to collect him, the spitting image of his mother and ushered him to the car. On their way to her house, she explained the numerous rules in place for his visit. He wasn’t to watch television after nine, phone calls home were only to last fifteen minutes and he was to be in bed by ten.
The ten weeks dragged by, and Eddie found himself wanting to go back to school. At least then he would get to see his friends and spend time with his boyfriend. He divided up his call time between his mother and Richie as well as the occasional call to the losers, but his mother always sounded bitter when he didn’t call her every day.
During his calls with Richie, he described all the fun they were having, at Eddie’s insistence. He described how they went swimming to the quarry, or went to see the new blockbuster movie at the Aladdin. Eddie felt his stomach churn with jealousy at each word Richie spoke, and he had to hide his tears from his aunt. If she found out he was crying, she might have blocked all calls to his friends all together.
“It’s not fair, Rich…I wish I was home with you. All our summer plans…” Eddie whispered one day, about five weeks into his visit. His aunt was out shopping so he got to spend a little more time on the phone to Richie.
“I know baby,” Richie breathed back down the line and all Eddie wanted to do was reach through the phone and grab him, holding on tight. “But you’ll be back the night before the Derry Fair, so we can still go together. We can still play all those rigged games and ride the Ferris Wheel.”
Eddie sighed, but nodded, even though Richie couldn’t see. The Derry Fair was his silver lining in all this mess. He would be home in time to experience it with his friends and that was what kept him going for the rest of the five weeks he remained with his aunt.
Finally, the day came for him to travel home and his aunt drove him to the airport, planting a huge sloppy kiss on his cheek and reminding him to let her know he arrived in Bangor safely. He nodded with a tense smile, edging further and further away from her until he couldn’t see her anymore. Scared that she would pull him back for another week, Eddie sprinted off towards security, breathing a sigh of relief when he was on the other side.
Through security. I’m almost home! - E
Can’t wait to see your cute face, Eds. I’m deprived! - R
Beep beep, Richie. - E
Can’t wait to see you too. - E
The flight back home went by quicker than Eddie expected, which was a good thing, and soon he was landing in Bangor and collecting his suitcase from the baggage claim. When he walked through into the arrivals lounge, his mother was waiting for him with her overprotective smile and Eddie deflated.
“Eddie-bear! You’re home!” She cooed, pulling him into a hug and planting a kiss on his forehead. She pulled back and held him out at arms length, clearly inspecting him for some reason or another. “You look pale, and tired. Do we need to make a visit to the emergency room?”
At the mention of the hospital, Eddie perked up and shook his head violently, “No ma, no need to go to the hospital! I’m not sick, I’m just fine. I’m sleepy from the long flight. A good night’s rest and I’ll be good as new.”
His mother pursed her lips, and Eddie could see the wheels in her head turning before she finally nodded and they headed out to the parked car. “Alright Eddie-bear, but maybe you should stay at home for a few days, I don’t want you getting sick before school starts.”
And there it was…the icing on the cake. His mother knew about the Derry Festival and she also knew that Eddie would want to go with his friends. Not wanting to miss out on the last chance of summer fun, Eddie put his foot down. “I’m going to the Derry Festival tomorrow with my friends Ma. I’ve missed them all summer and I’d like to have some fun with them before we go back to school.”
She clearly wasn’t happy with that, but there wasn’t a valid reason for her to keep him indoors, so she relented. “Fine, but you have to be home by eleven, after the firework display. Understood?”
Eddie nodded his head, exhaling in relief. He understood, and was perfectly fine with that.
* * * * *
The following afternoon, Eddie got himself dressed for the day before rushing out of his house to meet his friends, not giving his mother a chance to change her mind. He saw Ben first, who was waiting outside the Aladdin, looking at his phone and Eddie let out a scream of his name.
“Ben!” Ben turned around and his face broke into a wide smile.
“Eddie!” They met in the middle, hugging each other tightly and Eddie had to resist the urge not to cry. When they pulled away, Eddie told Ben all about his awful summer, until the other losers were spotted from over the hill. As much as Eddie would like to have said he spoke to all his friends first, he didn’t. The second his eyes landed on Richie, he was off like a rocket.
The second he was close enough, Eddie jumped into Richie’s arms, wrapping his arms and legs around him like an Octopus, not planning on letting go. “Oh my god, I’ve missed you!”
Richie chuckled into his neck, holding him close, clearly returning the passion of ‘not letting him go’. “I’ve missed you too Eds, so freaking much.”
A clear of a few throats caused them to break apart and Richie sat Eddie back down on his feet, lacing their fingers together instead. “Sorry guys…”
“You’re forgiven, but come on, I’d like to see the fair!” Bev grinned, taking Ben’s hand and walking ahead of the others. Eddie blinked…when did that happen? Richie seemed to sense his confusion and leaned down to whisper as they walked.
“Last week, during a game of truth or dare. Finally, right?” He laughed and Eddie chuckled along with him. When they reached the fair, it was already busy with families, teenagers and adults alike. All the losers went their separate ways then, making a promise to meet up for the fireworks at the end of the day.
Richie tugged on Eddie’s hand, leading him towards the stalls where they got some candy floss and attempted to win some prizes at darts and other games. It was almost like Eddie had never been away, how comfortable they were with each other, and soon they found themselves in the line for the Ferris Wheel.
Luckily, at that point there wasn’t much of a queue, so they were seated in no time and being sent up to the top. When it came to a stop, right at the peak of the wheel, Eddie looked around at all of Derry and for a second he thought it looked rather peaceful. He turned around to voice his thoughts to Richie but when he did, he realised that Richie was staring right at him.
“That’s not creepy at all,” Eddie teased and Richie nudged his side playfully. “Seriously though, do I have something on my face?”
Richie shook his head, and in a moment of softness, he reached a hand out to tuck some of Eddie’s hair behind his ear that his blown astray with the wind. “No…no you’re just…you’re beautiful and I’ve missed you.”
Now Eddie’s heart was hammering in his chest. He took in their situation and setting. It was almost considered romantic in every high school cliche movie. Eddie wasn’t a fan of them, not really, but right in that moment, with Richie staring at him, he wanted nothing more than for them to kiss.
“Kiss me?” Eddie voiced, his breathing a little light and he exhaled as Richie moved his hand to cup his cheek, bringing their lips together in what would be their second, but best, kiss so far. Richie’s lips tasted like the candy floss, sweet and strawberry and they were so damn soft that Eddie melted into the Ferris Wheel seat like goo.
So Eddie might have missed his summer with his friends and Richie. He might have not gotten to do all the things that he wanted to do, but as long as he never had to trade this moment up? He wasn’t going to complain.

TRAVELING WITH BABY
Tumblr media
Traveling with a 4 month old can seem daunting. Traveling has always been anxiety inducing for me so adding a baby to the mix, well, just kind of seemed like a nightmare.
Since our family is spread out all over the East Coast and most of our family had not met Easton yet, we knew we would have to fly with him at some point, so we kind of ripped the bandaid off and just did it in the Fall.  Also, Vermont is absolutely gorgeous in the fall so I was excited to finally see the Fall foliage.
We left on a Wednesday night.  We decided to take an Uber since my parents were out of town and we usually just find Ubers to be the most convenient form of transportation when traveling in general.  Let’s just say that ride was fun... Easton cried for half of the 45 minute drive there.  Our poor Uber driver.  Tyler and I kind of looked at each other and said, “this is going to be fun.” Lol.
There are no direct flights to Vermont so we had to do a stopover in Newark.  So a 4.5 hour flight (mind you it was a redeye) and then a 1 hour layover... then another 45 minute flight.
Tumblr media
We got to the airport and the amount of bags we had was kind of a joke. But luckily we knew we wouldn’t have to check a thing and had planned to just use our stroller so we put most of our bags underneath/push that to the gate and check it there.
Security in general isn’t the most fun and I personally think is very stressful.  Add a baby to the mix, and it gets a bit more complicated.  You will have to take baby out of the car seat and walk with him/her through security.  His stroller will have to go through and if you’re pumping like I was, then they will have to pull out your milk and inspect each bottle.  They had gloves on but still, it seemed unsanitary to me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Easton slept for some of the flight, which was great, but when he was awake, I’ll admit it wasn’t easy.   Now that we are back from our trip we are so happy we did it and seeing family was 100% worth it.
I feel like I now know what to take vs. what seems unnecessary.  Hope this helps you on your next trip with baby!
What to take:
-Stroller - we have the Uppababy Cruz Stroller - We debated not taking our stroller, BUT since you need to take a carseat if you will be going in any vehicle, you might as well take your stroller instead of awkwardly lagging around the carseat.
-Carseat + Adaptor - You will NEED a carseat that can travel without the base.  The carseat we have can’t travel without it’s base!!!!  So we had to get an extra for this trip/figured Tyler could keep the extra one in his car so we don’t have to move mine from my car all the time.  We got this one for the trip and bought the adaptor to our stroller since they are different brands.  We love the Nuna Carseat.
-Stroller/Carseat Bag for checking as baggage or at the gate - We checked our stroller at the gate and got a seat on the plane (so we took the carseat on the plane).  NOTE: Easton on the flight there would only let us hold him so buying a seat was kind of pointless; however, it was nice to not have someone next to us while he was crying and also be able to have extra room for his diaper bag and our bags too.  For the stroller, you will need to put it in a bag if you don’t want it to get thrown around and ruined.  We bought this really inexpensive one on Amazon.  If you don’t buy a seat, it is FREE for infants to sit on your lap.
-Diaper Bag - You’ll want a convenient diaper bag that is easy to carry.
-Extra outfit for baby - Also add a sweater just in case baby gets cold!  Also something short sleeved underneath, in case baby gets hot.  You know airplane temps...!
-Extra outfit for you
-Extra socks for baby (we somehow kept losing Easton’s socks - we found one 10 rows down from us while we were walking off the plane - don’t ask! haha)
-Baggies (For soiled clothes and diapers)
-Diapers (pack enough for the length of your flight) - we love these diapers especially for overnight or longer flights!
-Water Wipes - We love this brand of baby wipes!
-Changing Pad - You will want an easy (and small) changing pad you can bring with you to that TINY airplane bathroom.
-Gripe water: Didn’t think we would use this one but honestly when Easton would lose it and we tried everything(!) we would resort to the gripe water and I think it just tastes good/distracts them for a moment and made him stop crying.  You don’t even have to give them a lot or the full suggested amount, just slowly give them a little and have them suck on the dropper.  I quickly would replace it with the pacifier and he seemed to be better in just a minute.  You have to get creative with a baby!!! :D
-Baby Tylenol: Didn’t need it but had it just in case.
-Blanket - I brought a blanket for Easton for the flight.  We used it to block out light for when he was trying to sleep and then also when it got a bit colder on the plane.  ALSO was useful when I was holding him so my arm didn’t get sweaty/sticky on his skin... Seems odd but a friend told me this might happen, and it did!  The blanket can also be great to cover up while feeding baby or pumping.
-Breast pump - I took my fully charged pump.  I love this one!
-Breast pump attachments (1 set)
-Breat pump bra - I love this one!
-Breast pump charger
-Soap - I took dish washing soap from home in a little tupperware so I could wash bottles at the airport and on the plane.  It’s not ideal but much better than 1. not sanitizing and 2. using hand soap!
-3 baby bottles - OK, I was debating how many bottles to bring and 3 seemed like a good number.  If you have room take 4 or 5 so you do less washing, but you can totally get away with 3.
-Ice pack -  You’ll want an ice pack to keep your milk cold.  I took some frozen milk with me in my pump bag and kept all of the bottles in there too.  TSA will run it through security it as I mentioned before, but you are allowed to bring breastmilk and sanitized water for baby through security and on the plane!
-Frozen Milk - DO NOT put your frozen milk in a bag.  I use frozen bags of milk in our freezer and I thought I could just bring 1 or 2 of those in my pump bag.  WELL, the bag leaked and it was a nightmare.  Just unthaw the milk and put it in a bottle with the ice pack to keep it cold! (Can’t stress this one enough!  Don’t let my oops be your oops!).
-Formula - If you use formula, take more than enough formula for the trip.  Plan it out beforehand based off of how much your baby drinks a day.  Then add a few more scoops! :)
-Sanitized water (for formula) - Take sanitized water with you on the plane.  The plane water is not sanitary and I would not give this to baby!
- Toys and teething toy - You kind of have to play circus to entertain baby on the plane... We took 3 toys for Easton and he seemed to be entertained with them in the car and plane.
-Extra pacifiers! - Bring extra!  We also love these pacifier clips so that way they don’t all fall/you don’t lose them!
Optional:
-Baby Bjorne Carrier - We ended up using this once we got to our destination - had daytime activities with family/didn’t want to bring the stroller.  Glad we took it but not 100% necessary.
Other tips:
-If you’re going somewhere you can do laundry - pack light and just wash/reuse the same clothes. It’s hard enough packing for 1 person, let alone 2 or 3, depending on how many people you’re traveling with + baby.
-Have baby drink milk while descending and ascending OR have baby’s pacifier in mouth.  Helps with ear pressure.
-We tried to have E nap right before we got on the plane if possible... or at least sleepy.  He hated when the plane wasn’t moving and we had to sit down (before take off).  On the way home we kind of planned his nap and he actually was sleeping when we got on the plane until we were in the air.
-Wet wipes - Planes are full of germs.  ENOUGH SAID!  Great for baby’s hands too - they’re touching all sorts of things and then putting their hands in their mouth(!).
-Get up and walk around with them.  No one wants to be sitting still for hours.  Get up and walk around with baby.
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY - DON’T STRESS IF BABY CRIES.  People are surprisingly so sweet and compassionate.  They will even offer to take your baby and hold him/her if youre down for that kind of thing.  Our flight attendant on the way to Vermont took Easton with her for a while actually.  She has twins so we thought, 1. she’s not going anywhere/can’t steal him/we’re on a plane! lol and 2. sure, give us a break! ;)
Be sure to ask your flight attendant for a set of wings if it’s his/her first flight!  Cute little memento.

(See Easton had fun too...!)
Hope this helps and I will add anything if I think of anything else.
Happy travels! <3

“Why do I have to go?” Harry again protested as you all shifted to the left on the Knight bus in its racing path towards Privet Drive.
“Harry, you know the rules, two weeks at the Dursley’s.”
“But they’ll only be worse now that I’ve gone to my ‘school of crackpot magic tricks’.”
You rolled your eyes, “They’ll get over it, and if they give you a hard time you let me know and I’ll send over some puking candies.” Making him chuckle and reluctantly stand and shift his mokeskin bag in his hand carrying his trunk and owl cage he had no clue how to fit in his room below the stairs. A problem solved by his entering the door to the home filled with the chatter of Dudley to his friends.
Petunia eyed him from her place fixing treats in the kitchen saying lowly in her approach to him making him freeze, “We needed the space for our new vacuum you no longer sleep under the stairs.” A hint of regret in her forcibly stoic expression making Harry nod wondering if Vernon had finally made good on his threat to move him into the garden shed. “Up the stairs second on the right. We moved Dudley into the larger spare to fit his things.” She turned to the kitchen again after adding, “Vernon is working late and Dudley is having friends over so keep quiet.”
Harry nodded, “Yes aunt Petunia.” He stole a glance back at her seeing her return to the counter peering over at what clearly was another of your letters beside a notepad covered in what appeared to be a drafted response. Anxiously he crept up the stairs eyeing the blue carpet with purple swirls on it and then followed the simple directions until he was in the ten by seven foot room complete with a simple bed, desk and cupboard for his clothes. A weak grin eased onto his face finding his knight toys lined up across the desk clearly dusted in his time away before he looked out over the window he drew Hedgwig out to set her cage in front of it and then turn to place his trunk on the floor by his cupboard.
Deeply he sighed and opened his trunk and found the bound gift from Hagrid he had been gifted as he left for the train. With care he undid the ribbon and eased back the brown paper revealing an album topped with a picture of him in his parents arms as they waved his arm at the camera. Grinning to himself he sat on his bed and opened the book finding first a picture of James and Lily dancing around a fountain, each page after with various pictures captured through their school years, more than a few including the Marauders and his aunt Jewelia, who stunned him completely at how much you looked like her.
Special awards and events, mainly circling Quidditch games, were included with descriptions Hagrid had included until the few scattered pictures of his year with his parents came to and end. From the image of him floating on a tiny broom between Lily and James and your shifting into a fox circling him as he first earned to crawl he felt his lip quivering as it jumped ahead to his first day. From a stolen picture of him under the Sorting hat to his first Quidditch practice the pages flooded with his newfound family around him up until a simple note “Family will always be here with us, just like Hogwarts, we never leave, not really.”
Closing the book he moved to set it on the desk turning again to his trunk he pulled a book on spells gone wrong you had gifted him in hopes of aiding in his studies while away. Flipping to his bookmark he eased the book open and scooted back against the wall smirking as he reread the last story softly chuckling to himself.

“America?” Your eyes rose from the copy of your wand permit you had been handed from Regulus upon returning from your swim in the lake with the twins and Opal at her saying the Platypus living there had laid eggs near hatching. Easing a wet strand of your hair behind your ear you locked your eyes with his asking, “Why are we heading to America?”
In the corner of your vision you caught Remus and Sirius tensing through their tea as he answered, “Apparently some traveling muggle circus found a Runespoor and Horned Serpents and sold them to a zoo only for them to break their cages and, well they didn’t bite anyone, just threw some people around. A few Aurors managed to secure them in an auditorium down at the Ministry until we can get there.”
“They can’t manage them?”
He chuckled saying, “Apparently their Auror system is congested and their Magical Creatures head is locked up in some scuffle with an Erumpent herd. Some sort of mischief in their secrecy got botched and now a creature dealer is headlining in a massive trial for selling to muggles. Plus, they heard I am something of a snake expert, so, yes you and I are headed to New York.” He looked to the twins, “I am sorry, I would have to fill out extra minor guardianship papers that would take weeks to authorize for cross oceanic trips.”
They nodded hugging you saying, “Lets get you changed and packed!”
With a giggle you joined them hurrying up to your room as your father said, “Best hop to it Pumpkin, plane leaves in an hour.”
Eyeing your closet after you had dried off and pulled on a long dark green velvet vest top hanging to your upper thighs over your grey jeans. Tapering off over the tops of your tall heeled boots Minerva had gifted you on your birthday you had started to break in on the final couple weeks in school after the final quidditch practice had ended. Slowly the twins kept creeping taller and until you could have the awaited growth spurt fated for you by your parents’ height jumps when they were your age. Lastly after your worn leather jacket you added your hat to help keep your eyes from being noticed that sat over your long braid hanging over your back in a deep maroon shade.
The trip to the muggle airport went easily enough and following Regulus you kept hold of his hand in walking through the crowded airport reminding yourself not to change your hair or eyes from your decided purple shade. Past the ticket counter you passed through the baggage check, for the simple expected two day trip you had the clothes chosen for the trip rolled up beside your toiletries pouch in your messenger bag along with a charmed book and set of journals to muggle proof them. A flashed grin and you were on your way towards your gate where you took your place in line to file into your seats towards the middle of the plane.
.
Eleven hours later and you were back in another airport claiming his hand once again on the path to the arrivals gate. Passing over your passport and travel papers you locked eyes with the brooding man behind the counter that looked between you and your picture, “Business or pleasure?”
After a pause you replied, “Short holiday, so, pleasure?”
Once again he inspected your face as you flashed another quick smile ignoring his stare at the scarred half of your face under your side swept bangs. Blankly he flipped the page and moved his arm from the ink pad to the page with his hand folded around a black plastic cylinder stamping the first page he closed the small book that he slid back to you. With a nod of his head he said, “Enjoy your time in New York.”
You grinned at him claiming the book you added to your bag and followed after Regulus to the side freeing up the counters where he claimed your hand and guided you out to the exiting gate where you eyed the tall teen with wide eyes looking you over in your approach in the early morning light through the glass walls. The sign with ‘Mr Black’ that he kept aimed towards the floor making Regulus smirk and mumble to you, “Bet that’s our ride.”
Giggling softly you leaned against his arm shifting your bag to avoid hitting the silver planter on your right joining him for the final few feet up to the teen where Regulus reached out tilting the sign up to read his name then said with a grin, “Hope you brought something sporty.”
The teen blinked then said, “Um, just have my Volkswagon Corrado. It’s got a racing stripe on it.”
Regulus chuckled saying, “Should do nicely.” Grinning at you as you followed the fumbling teen hurrying outside to unlock the car door and ease the seat forward for you to climb in the back.
Tumblr media
Easing into the car you sat down resting your bag on your lap while Regulus climbed into the seat in front of you and closed the door resting his at his feet. The gangly teen rushed around and climbed inside to start the drive taking you through the city off towards the distant Ministry. Buildings whizzed by with oddly orange vans with men and women in matching striped bright red suits with matching hats, all of them more glum than the last as the trench coat clad group around them watching them intently turning your head as you passed.
“Hey, what’s with that van?”
The teen shook his head after a deep scoff, “Should just shove that lot out to sea.”
“Why?”
Shaking his head again he just turned up the music mumbling to himself stirring an eerie sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach as you dropped the subject. Through an odd patch of green you watched it grow in your view until it switched back to the city again you were parked and climbed out after Regulus did. Straight for the Woolworth building you walked adjusting the strap of your bag still wondering about that group in your step closer to Regulus’ side softly asking, “Did you see that van?”
Regulus sighed saying as he leaned in to whisper in latin, “When we turned 16 we flew out here and, well it’s a bit of a long story. I’ll explain in the hotel okay?” His eyes locked on yours and he added, “Technically I almost couldn’t come, got a ten year ban while Remus, James and your Dad got lifetime bans for the ruckus we pulled up over that lot in the van.”
“Why do I have a feeling this isn’t going to end well?”
Regulus eased his arm around your back leading you closer to the front entrance locked for the next few hours where another group of trench coat clad men and women waiting there staring you both down as if you had already been deemed a waste of time.
The closer you drew your eyes sank to the tallest man with sunglasses he was removing, his tie coated in snakes in bowties and wearing propeller hats. His brown eyes looking you over at Regulus’ side who he asked, “Mr Black, I was not aware you were bringing a date.”
Regulus scoffed, “This is my niece, Jaqi. Trust me, when I have a snake problem she is necessary.”
He looked you over again inching up his brow at your color changing eyes in looking over the brunette woman and blonde male around him who turned with a joined sigh as he said, “Come this way then and Miss, kindly remove your hat. I trust your niece has had the knowledge to fill out a wand permit application.” Reaching up you removed it and gave it a wave at your side activating your charm on it turning it to a string tied around your index finger. Anxiously your eyes raised and you ruffled your bangs and slicked your fingers along your braid resting over your shoulder in your usual self calming way noticing the danger wheel aimed at Level 4 Danger, Level 2 Moderate Danger which switched up to Level 3 High Alert as the two smaller hands moved to Exposures and Obliviations.
Tumblr media
Regulus, “Oh I filled it out for her, by post. Just got out of school day before yesterday.”
That made the group glance back to look at you making you say, “I have it if you need to see it.” Turning around they quietly spoke amongst themselves as you glanced up at Regulus who leaned in to kiss your forehead.
Past a wand polishing House Elf you looked to the short redheaded woman who gasped and hurried over, her heels clicking at her eager steps as her slightly nasally voice rang out echoing in the halls, “Jewels! Regi!”
Tumblr media
Leaning in Regulus whispered, “Bernadette Claude, she performed with your Mother.” His eyes inched back up to her with a grin on his face accepting her crashing hug into his side, “Bernadette.”
The group ahead of you paused to watch as she then hugged you widening your eyes in her quick tugging hug then release you forced a grin back onto your face for as she said, “Oh it’s been so long! I know you’re busy so I will catch you later.” Just as quickly as she had appeared she seemed to vanish down a hall freeing you to continue onwards behind the group.
Down a series of marble steps you eyed the varied professionally clad people passing by eyeing you both in return before you caught another flash of bright colored suits with thick black stripes as you were led to an opening elevator. Once inside you turned seeing a group of young teenagers staring up at you seemingly embarrassed to even catch your eye, the eldest girl bearing a strong dark brow matching that of her father’s, who was in a matching suit with a familiar claw mark across his cheek.
The doors of the large elevator closed and the House Elf turned the gear to the proper location as you glanced up at Regulus wondering why the trench coat clad group around the family had refused to let them inside the elevator with you. His eyes were already on you silently confirming your suspicion as to why they were being segregated. Looking forward again you drew in a steady breath struggling to fight your looming tears as you forced down the rising sea of insults and curses just biting and snarling to burst free.
A series of halls later and shouts could be heard of charms to renew the barriers around the auditorium behind oddly pale blue marble walls and doors coated in paisley tapestries. Approaching the doors those with wands raised stepped back eyeing the pair of you as you left your bags by the wall and Regulus rested his hand on the doorknob at your asking, “Why is it so cold?”
The dark eyed man that led you answered, “It is 85 degrees.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You turned your head to look up at him, “No wonder they’re furious, they must be freezing.” Regulus opened the door and you eyed the Runespoor raised up to nearly ten feet with its body coiled up reaching what you assumed to be near thirty feet. Its eyes shifting colors in your first step into the room saying in Parseltongue as Regulus raised his hand casting a wandless heating spell, “No wonder you are so upset.” From behind a row of seats you saw the three Horned Serpents you guessed to be nearly twenty feet long each staring at you while you continued for the open mouthed Aurors behind you to watch in awe at the calming snakes. “It is so cold in here.”
The Runespoor’s heads tilted as the one on the right spoke, “The little one speaks to us.”
The far left replied, “Yes, it does. What little fangs it has.” Making you giggle and smile up at the middle head as it hummed out, “Whimsical dreams weighted with sorrow. What a painful creature.”
The middle Horned Serpent spoke out, “What could have called this little one so far from home?” Starting to slither over the seat to circle you with his brothers who all shifted closer to Regulus as they passed him at the spreading warmth from him.
Another said, “All these men and they send a child?”
Peering at the second you answered through the third sniffing you with a flick of his tongue, “They did not send for me. They asked for my Uncle.”
The third paused saying, “This smell on you.” The trio sniffed you as the Runespoor leaned closer to do the same only to pull back stunned eyeing you all muttering, “The King!”
Nodding your head you answered, “I do protect a Basilisk. These men, they will take you to a proper home far from where they found you.”
In conference they continued to circle you while Regulus continued to warm the room stealing smirking glances at the group watching from the hall as the conference ended and they all looked to you nodding their heads in unison, “We will trust you.” The middle Horned Serpent added, “But keep that one away from us.”
Tumblr media
Your head turned to the dark eyed man again with the hideous tie before your eyes darted to a familiar voice coming through the halls, “Ah! Lovely, just in time!” Newt Scamander arrived fixing his collar as he grinned at you before looking to the dark eyed man with a twisting expression, “Why would you wear that tie?!”
His brow inched up and you added, “You need to change it.”
He looked to you, “That is what they said? They hate my tie?!”
“No. I hate your tie. Snakes with bow ties and propeller hats, just offensive.”
Dark eyed Auror, “Then what did they say to you?”
“They will agree to be transported. But not by you. They don’t like you.”
You looked to Newt and then grinned as he clapped his hands smoothing his palms together, “See now, just what I said. Snake experts. Perfect for the task.” His head turned and he peered up at the snakes still circling you eyeing him curiously, “Marvelous, twice the size of my own Runespoor. Curious how the Muggles managed it right my dear?”
You nodded saying to the snakes, “This is my friend, Newt.” They nodded and leaned in to sniff him.
Newt, “I’m off to the wild reserves after this, made a stop in South America when I heard. Right out mess they made with the Erumpents.
Extending his palm he measured the horns on one of the Horned Serpents circling you spreading his grin, “He is going to take you to your new homes.”
Behind the Wizard his suitcase floated closer and opened signaling you to step out of the coiling circle freezing the trio who eyed your approach to the open suitcase as Newt said, “Warmth and food,” motioning his hand in his step aside hoping they would follow you.
One tilted its head then dropped lower following you towards the suitcase it peered into curiously before slithering down the steps after you with another right behind him. The three eyed the set up habitats until their scales shimmered at the warm lake they hurried to you were tossing a buckets worth of food into. At the dip of the Runespoor into the suitcase you came into its sights and motioned her in towards another habitat next to the trio’s filled with trees where you grabbed the bucket of live prey you dumped out into the trees urging its rush past you to hunt and eat, thanking you along the way.
Up again you climbed out accepting Newt’s hand for the last step, after which the suitcase snapped shut and locked itself. Patting your hand he grinned saying, “Masterfully done.”
You giggled then eyed Regulus giving you an agreeing nod before you looked to the Aurors again, a new one had arrived saying coldly, “Since you seem to be so, adept, at snake charming perhaps you could aid us in collecting some venoms.”
Tilting your head you answered, “Why not.”
Newt chuckled guiding you both to the door where you shouldered your bags again, “I never get to see their collection.” With a hop to his step he folded his hand around his floating briefcase handle and you all followed the group through a series of empty halls until you were in another lifeless holding area with hovering paralyzed snakes floating in containment shields parting your lips. “What is wrong with you?”
Your question turned the group to you as Newt looked just as shocked as you, the dark eyed Auror turned saying, “Excuse me?”
Locking your eyes on his you pointed at the snakes, “What the hell?! How could you do this? They’re not tubs of ice cream!”
He rolled his eyes, “These are puppets, used to aid in capturing those who sell deadly snakes to Muggles, containing memories of the transactions for the trials. We are not this stupid to keep snakes like this.”
Turning again they led you on into another room with glass cages making you scoff lowly replying in latin, “Apparently you are.” He glanced back at you and each pitiful habitat you guided the teams through alongside Regulus and Newt to collect the samples with ease as well as sharing the snakes’ complaints.
..
Nearly to nightfall you finally were headed back to the front entrance after a sandwich break that Newt had brought in, halfway expecting to be detained as always since his first trip to New York. The number of colored suits in the main lobby had grown into dozens being urged ahead by air shields from the wands of the Aurors escorting them making you ask, “Why are they doing that?”
The dark eyed Auror curtly replied, “Butt out of it. It does not concern you.”
You scoffed making him stop through Newt’s sharp inhale seeing one of the Aurors urge another man ahead with a burst of air from his wand forcing the man into another group of already agitated men who had been already on edge from their antagonizing guards. A sudden tear of fabric had the women and children being ushered aside by the calmer males, with the exception of a young girl being shoved by another Auror waving his wand between two males mid transformation in a frantic pant. Rushing forward you reached into your pocket drawing out a trio of your enchanted bracelets you flung at the changing males.
The metal chains soared and latched around their wrists folding over their hands making their eyes gloss over and droop as the hibernation enchantment kicked in slowly lowering them to the ground. Around the now sleeping men the fellow bright suit clad men eyed them in their frenzy to remain calm before looking to you. The Aurors, all having missed the yellow wafting dust dripping down their bodies eyed the ones they were circling while you dropped to a knee in front of the girl.
Flinching from your touch she panted eyeing you carefully as you inched closer to her, softly saying, “It’s ok.” Her eyes darted to the Aurors Regulus and Newt were keeping at bay with a bubble charm. “Look at me.”
Her panting quickened through squeaking breaths as you said easing a beaded charm from your bracelet seeing a patch of fur spreading over her cheek, “This will help. Just breathe. I’m not going to hurt you.” Her eyes followed your hand as you stole a glimpse at her mother wringing her hands afraid to approach you watching with the others as you hooked the bracelet into place. The shift was almost instant making her sit up and start patting her face and shifting her sleeves inspecting her wrists. “See,” her eyes met yours and you asked, “I’m Jaqi, what’s your name?”
Wetting her lips she looked you over replying, “Lynn, from the Lycan housing district across the bay.”
“Lycan district…?” Raising your eyes you looked over the still agitated men then you helped Lynn to her feet as you heard more Aurors flooding into the hall. Wetting your lips you moved closer to the men waving your hand summoning more bracelets from your office approaching the men saying, “I have more, it will help calm you down.”
Timidly they accepted them, easing them around their wrists to instantly feel relief before their eyes rose to the tall man glaring at you harshly with full black attire under a long leather trench coat with a tall black headdress marking him as the President of MACUSA, Serano Picquery.
Tumblr media
Inhaling deeply he eyed you three as you turned to him fully with a glare of your own in the shifting of your eyes and hair to a deep midnight blue. His voice booming through the hall in a deep tone, “Just what is the meaning of this?!”
Harshly you shouted back, “This is how you treat your citizens?!”
His eyes narrowed as he bellowed back, “We are protecting our citizens-!”
“From who?! Because the only people I see harming your citizens is you!”
Serano’s nostrils flared and he bellowed, “Break that shield now!”
The Aurors closest around you fired spell after spell only to lower their wands at the sea of feathers from the confused ducks they were summoning. “You do know it wasn’t too long ago segregation was abolished by the Muggles! Forcing specific wardrobes, housing and barriers,”
Your eyes locked on his as the ducks settled between the furious Aurors, “With all these red and black clothes around it sure hits a few blaring warning signs that should remind you of something that the Muggles you’re so afraid of might refer to as the fighting forces that triggered a friendly little tiff called WORLD WAR II! How thick could you possibly get?! You’re even worse than they are!”
Serano, “Now-!”
“Now nothing! You’ve said enough! It’s time for you to listen for once! You cowards,” his brow twitched up and his fists clenched as he inhaled again, “have done nothing but get to spout your propaganda for centuries against innocent people! Sure there are those maliciously attacking others but for the vast majority this disease is spread through innocents, men, women and children that had nothing to do with harming anyone!
And what have you done?! Locked them away forcing them to feel less than worthy enough to share an elevator with someone without the disease. I bet if you tested the people in these suits more than half would be symptom or disease free, and you treat them like some monster! Back in the twenties when Newt first came here he had to force you to see your fear does nothing but cause more damage than if you actually tried treating other people and beings with some dignity and respect!
You treat them like monsters! You lock them away! Well you wanted monsters and that’s just what you’re creating for yourself. Go ahead, keep jabbing at the beast, go ahead, make it easier for them to lash out. You think they want to change? You think they want to tear in half into some vicious creature detached from their control! Innocent people forced through that, confused and hurt and what do you do?!”
His shoulders started to droop seeing the teary eyed suited group watching someone finally speaking up for them. “You decide in your infinite wisdom that each and every one of them has to remain silent and obedient letting you control each and every aspect of their life! That they can have some semblance of a life if they just hand over every ounce of freedom and dignity they have! What were you thinking? Who gave you that right?! They get no rights while you get the freedom to walk around able to drop buildings on people, disintegrate people to dust with no one to keep watch over you, and just because they have a disease they have absolutely no control over they get limited to next to nothing!”
Exhaling lowly you replied a bit calmer, “If you do nothing to help them you are only drowning everyone with untamable fear. Last time that happened in New York an Obscurial almost tore your precious statute of secrecy to shreds. I believe your Grandmother could share a bit on that with you if you have any doubts on what damage fear can do.”
Inhaling deeply again he stated, “You will lower this shield!”
“Make me.” His eyes narrowed, “No, your Aurors are so pepped up to harm innocent children, I’m only 14, come on, take your best shot. You want a monster I’ll give you one! Or you can sit down with all of these people here apologizing for how they have been marginalized by you and all the Aurors you command for probably their entire lives. And then when that’s done I can give you a better way to handle this head on.”
Serano, “And just what would a child have to offer us in means of protecting ourselves?! Hmm? You, tell me that!”
His cocky smirk dropped at Lynn walking to your side raising her arm exposing the bracelet to say, “I was starting to shift and Jaqi gave me this. It stopped my shift. It itches, but it reversed my shift and I’m calmer.” More of the men behind you stepped forward showing theirs as well while the Aurors looked to the men unconscious, slowly shifting back to their natural forms with charm bracelets fully exposed.
Serano snarked back, “So you would have us kill this disease with charm bracelets and kindness?”
Your eyes narrowed, “If you have seen one tenth the cruelty I have it would be no joke to be kind. Do not mistake my kindness for weakness. Trust me when I say it is taking everything in me not to return every ounce of, kindness, I have seen shown to your citizens back onto you.”
Stepping closer to the barrier he replied, “You come to my country, my Ministry headquarters and start shouting about how I keep my citizens safe, and all you offer is charm bracelets! How am I supposed to make my people feel safe from them?!”
Tilting your head mockingly you replied, “By making them feel safe from you for starters.” A growling breath left him and you added, “There are potions-!”
“YES! And to brew those potions and enforce them on all inflicted by the disease would cost billions! In just one year! We cannot afford to brew, let alone distribute the Wolfsbane potion!”
“The old one, yes.”
His brow inched up and his voice dropped calmer in confusion, “Old one?”
Waving your fingers you produced one of your cards for the Werewolf products, “There’s a new potion for barely a fourth of the price to produce. Way more affordable to the masses. Now if only people would stop running in fear from the slightest sign of lycanthropy we could actually get people the help they need!”
Serano, “You will give me this recipe.”
You shook your head, “Not gonna happen. Ever. I will distribute the cards, I will sell the bracelets, and you will apologize for how you have treated everyone in those lycan districts.”
Serano, “I doubt your Minister of Magic will enforce that decision.”
You smirked at him, “Go ahead. Ask him. See what he says.”
He huffed and said, “Then I will be needing your name, Miss-,”
“Jaqiearae Suzsieanne Anistasiea Pluto Black.” His lips parted as you brushed your bangs from your face exposing your signature scar, “Would you like me to spell it for you?”
Serano looked you over asking, “Black,” he cleared his throat glancing at Regulus, who held a beaming idiotic grin when he got looked at, then back to you, “Not any relation to, Sirius Black?”
You nodded, “My Father.”
Serano inhaled then replied, “You will drop this shield and will aid you in distributing your cards and you will share the financial aspects of these potions and bracelets of yours so they can be spread through the districts. I will run an investigation as to how the laws pertaining lycans can be shifted. Is your visit for long?”
You answered, “We have tickets for a flight back tomorrow night.”
Serano, “Good. Ensure you are on it.”
With a smirk you dropped the shield and the group inched closer to you, Regulus and Newt only to eye Serano in his approach to you offering Lynn his hand first beginning the line of apologies he ordered each of his Aurors to give as well until the last was given. Most half hearted at first until they started hearing stories of how they had been treated for their lives or since contracting the disease. With each of those already spoken to they grouped around you asking question after question about your new potion, and bracelets.
“In the onset of the shift, the enchanted silver burns them when it forces their change to stop, more than just on their skin. When out of the full moon week there’s no pain at all, during it, constant tingling, the day of, just searing pain unless you take the stronger potion exactly on schedule.” Your hair and eyes returned to their former shades.
Repeating your answer for the question of the differences between the potions you caught President Serano peering over the crowds at you listening, “The new one halts the shift completely, and is a fourth of the price-. But there is a taste metal all day and under direct moonlight the bodies ache everywhere and will experience numbness in the feet and lower legs. Though if you eat pineapple every morning the metal taste is tolerable and the aching lulls after five hours with the second dose. We are working on the side effects but past those the irritability paired with the week wanes over continued use.”
Wetting your lips you continued, “We still are adjusting the recipe and trying to find a way to strengthen it. Since they are forced into hiding back home it was not likely if advertised for sale in public would sell well, but we’ve placed a few ads since the second potion in a few anon group meetings for secret deliveries. Only had a few requests to try it so far.”
Lynn, “Secret deliveries?”
“When we get an order request and enchanted safe is sent to them, they slide the coins into the slot on it and it opens releasing their supply. They collect it and it zaps back to us, discrete and safe for them.” In a reach into your pocket you pulled out a set of cards you sent out to each of the lycans around you, “The summoning chant for the safe is on these. They will be distributed through the districts. We did have a supply for a few hundred before I left but I can cut the supply from five months for each person to one and we can have five times as many until will be back home and can focus on brewing more. Then we can offer the usual five month supply when our stocks have refilled.”
Serano, “How many of the bracelets do you have in stock?”
“Few dozen. I am certain we could get the ones that struggle with it the most first and craft more quite quickly. This isn’t going to be a new bright red suit. It is powerful magic, not a band aid, they have to be given to those who need them. Plus, they can help you blend into the Muggle world as well. Instead of the blaring matching outfits, they’re just popular beaded or charm bracelets. A fad to the mortals.”
A female in the lycan groups asked, “How much are these potions a month?”
“Ten galleons a month.” The amount dropping their jaws as the old potion that usually runs for hundreds of galleons for a full month supply.
The next few hours as the next wave of lycans arrived for their mandatory evaluations and ration booklet pick up for the month. All more than eager to hear from those leaving from theirs what you had said and offered to them while their President continued to speak to each arriving hearing about Aurors mistreating them and all of their complaints.
Groggily you made your way to the front entrance with Newt as he patted your hand that was resting in the crook of his arm giving you a comforting grin, “Marvelous, My Dear. I hate that  they took my idea for a registry and turned it into that, bastardized monstrosity of registering criminals, not their victims.”
Regulus chuckled only to fall silent as you spotted the same woman from earlier wading through the sea of reporters stealing pictures of you three to add to the story they had fully wrote up, complete with memories from a few willing Aurors to confirm each word and gesture. In a surprising rush she grinned at you saying, “Oh you just look so, what is your secret?” she leaned in, “Using that morphing skill of yours to hide the wrinkles isn’t fair you know.” She turned her head to look up to Regulus, “I mean, Regi, Merlin’s beard you’ve aged!”
Regulus chuckled patting his hand on your shoulder, “Why thank you, I’ve been busy raising this one.” Her lips parted looking you over as he continued, “We lost Jewels back in ’81, with the Potters. This is Jaqi.”
Bernadette gasped and stepped forward pulling you into a tight hug, “Oh, I am so sorry! I just-,” she pulled back with tears in her eyes, “I just saw you, and, hoped it hadn’t happened. I am so sorry, and you look, so much like her. Any time you want to talk about her,” she looked down patting her pockets then drew out a card she passed to you, “Here, my home address and seeing stone rune connection.” She shifted her eyes to a witch waving to her and she said, “I do have to head back in, but I am due in London in a few weeks. We can get together for a coffee and spill it all!” She nodded then hugged Regulus again before darting off.
Alone again you three walked through the door and out onto the street following Newt to a small crack in the wall diner nearby he loved and frequented with his wife Tina when his ban on travel to the states was up. After the meal his ride showed up and as you saw another sunrise you strolled under Regulus’ arm through the streets to your Wizard hotel where you spotted the Aurors tailing you in assurance you would make your flight to switch with a new pair to watch outside until you left again. One long nap and another late lunch later you were back in the streets again off to a simple set of shops before catching the same teen driver pulling up to drive you to the airport.
For a second time he anxiously eyed you both in the silent ride to the airport while your mind raced eyeing the bustling streets until the gateway home again appeared and you were both let out again. In the busy entrance you joined the lines of Muggles to wait on the ticket counter leaning against Regulus’ arm hearing him chuckle once again.
“It’s not funny.” You stated in latin, “I just got a lifetime ban from the states.”
Regulus chuckled again, “Chip off the old block.” You glanced up at him and he said, “When the guys were 16, I was just a year younger barely, summer break we tried to fly to the states, we got all the way there and then Remus’ name popped up in their system. Failed the pretest before the flights, back when they were first starting the districts.”
“No.”
He nodded, “He was being turned around when we tried to sign into our hotel, put back on a plane and sent home. Bunch of Aurors in trench coats just like today. We went ballistic. Course the guys said they pushed me into it since I was younger, so over their lifetime ban I got a ten year ban and we switched our plans to explore Europe. Just a hair past a decade now, hence my being able to bring you to help them out. Though they reluctantly allowed me back, but no doubt now I will be joining the family tradition.” Giggling to yourself you took the few steps forward closer to the ticket counter feeling your tears fighting back again.
“How can they be so casually cruel?”
Sighing again he replied, “I don’t know. But you spoke up, and shouted and silently slung charms disarming them and finally got someone to listen. We just blasted everything in sight. Your words made a difference. You made a difference.”

How to proceed About Packed Overhead Receptacles
During the a 3 week period prior to the begin from the New 12 months, about 43. 3 million Americans had been likely to consider flight journey aircraft, as outlined by Flight companies for Usa, a business control group.
Many in the persons traveled with fat, and several didn't verify their luggage simply because they desired to certainly not pay trolley suitcase fees. Amongst main home service providers, simply JetBlue and The west always enable people to check on a ladies handbag free of charge. Travellers about various other airlines are actually commonly inspired to spend around $25 per carrier per airline flight. Jointly, air carriers required in $3. four billion really and almost $1. several billion throughout the initially 1 / 2 of 2011 by baggage charges, relating to the Division of Transportation.
While an individual who lures frequently for people who do buiness and private factors, I dislike baggage costs. Of all First, like the majority of everybody else, I actually merely may wish to dedicate more income just for the similar support. Since the costs not necessarily generally added till check-in, it's now extremely difficult to determine the entire price of routes in order to make convenient evaluations among airline companies when creating programs, if you don't memorize numerous air carriers ' gear procedures.
But what troubles me much more compared to costs themselves may be the rise in carry on bag baggage sparked with the service fees. " Wise " travellers, seeking to use less, are progressively determining it makes ideal feeling to continue everything they require for any week or even more, even when which means carrying suitcases they could hardly lift up. I was certainly not just in becoming irritated by complications this will cause. In a latest study released through the U. H. Travel Relationship, 72 percent of participants reported "people who provide a lot of carry-on palm bags inches as one of their particular biggest worries with contemporary air travel.
The sight of vertically questioned or seniors attempting to lifter weighty carry-ons into packed overhead receptacles has additionally persuaded me that there's a minimum of a small safety risk involved right here. Many able-bodied people, personally included, create a habit of providing to assist when additional medication is noticeably experiencing their bags. But all this filling and shuffling will certainly small to advertise quick boarding and on-time take-off.
Tumblr media
Almost all the baggage which are becoming moved from your recently pricey valuables area towards the over head region should also end up being cleared simply by secureness. Regarding to Homeland Protection Admin Janet Napolitano, that extra scanning services costs the Vehicles Safety Supervision $260 mil annually. "The improved quantity of carry-on luggage causes significant gate blockage, adversely impacting reliability and leading to significant strains in TSA assets and staff, very well TSA elected chief executive and Main Professional Roger Dow informed an Us senate panel. (1)
Florida-based Spirit Airline carriers finds you solution towards problem: demand for carry-ons too. Seeing that 2010 August, Heart continues to be requesting individuals to pay for extra for carriers whether or not they check them or offer all of them aboard. To my shock, Character has grown its traveler count number by simply nearly 25 % because it added the luggage payment. Nevertheless not a large number of tourists want various other airline carriers to consider this method.
Rather, persons plus some congress possess contended that Congress should control baggage fees. Senators Bill Cardin, D-Md., and John Landrieu, D-La., have suggested laws that will prohibit flight companies from recharging guests an extra fee for his or her first examined bag.
Airline flight marketplace organizations counter-top that an authorities requirement about them might move back again the work schedule for the purpose of the times of large air travel regulations when ever, whilst Sam Lott, a spokesman with respect to Airline carriers with regards to America, place it, " consumers paid many had fewer alternatives. inch
Mainly because practically as much ast I actually would prefer to not necessarily accept the air carrier lobby about this one particular, My spouse and i do. Representatives and government bodies haven't any business informing flight companies as well as their consumers what conditions they're able to concur upon. In the end, while I choose to not travel around on Soul Trip companies and pay out the cost to find carry-on side bags, other folks do apparently. In the event that our elected representatives start discussing travel and leisure offers on individuals ' account, they might find yourself just removing selections rather than enhancing them.
U. S. Breathing passages, as an example, might possibly not have the next whether it weren't to luggage costs. After a 10 years of enormous deficits, the fees performed various in getting the company again for the dark. Circumstance. S. Air passage published $450 million in revenue this year. Its income was straight down considerably with all the preliminary 75 % of 2011, mainly because of higher gas prices, however in both years the airline's whole income might be related to baggage along with other non-ticket expenses.
In the situation of baggage costs, the simplest legal repair would be to close the tax loophole that mementos firms that demand separate luggage charges around the expense of people that include regular baggage allotments in ticketed prices. Even though flight tickets, which will for JetBlue and Freebie southwest consist of travel luggage transport, are taxed, independent baggage are certainly not really Provided the quantity of authorities facilities air carriers need, fees upon seat tickets seem sensible. Free of charge goes by for individual suitcase sets charges might.
Relating within the Authorities Responsibility Workplace, costs upon suitcase set costs might have produced one more $240 mil this season for that Airport terminal and Airways Trust Account, which will help purchase international airport building, visitors control security and systems home inspections. Our elected representatives may also need to have airline flight companies to speak their suitcases charge insurance policies to people a lot more obviously and previous inside reservation procedure.
A good harder job for Our elected representatives is going to be fighting the present hub program. Clients soaring away from particular single-airline-dominated towns actually have little chance to workout any actual choice. Almost two-thirds of persons who also are available in or perhaps beyond Atlanta's air-port, by way of example, turn out about Delta arrivals, depending on the Bureau of Transfer Figures.
That may switch since Southwest quickly, which acquired fee-charging AirTran this past year and therefore obtained a 12 percent talk about of Atlanta's industry, presents their very own baggage-fee-free Atlanta plane tickets the following month. Georgia travelers can therefore possess a better quality rival to Delta on travellers to Denver colorado, Houston, Chi town, Baltimore-Washington and Austin tx. Although there aren't any fee-free choices for travel arrangements on essential non-stop ways to Fl, Nyc as well as the Western Coast also, primarily because JetBlue, a significant participant on all those tracks, doesn't have existence found in Metro atlanta.
The nation's lawmakers can't buy other airline carriers to begin shifting their organization to City atlanta. But it may remove hurdles that actually entrench airline carriers ' positions of electrical power within their hubs and keep others inside the dark areas. Granting regional air-ports considerably more expert to reallocate entrance and airport terminal space may possibly go quite a distance toward developing a more versatile force framework. In occupied and space-constrained airfields, the cut of takeoff and obtaining places performs a sizable part too.
Seeing that we view throughout the so-called South west impact, the moment one trip inside a market place begins to present buyers better gives, other folks follow match. Without options, nevertheless, clientele include zero method to take action for the discontentment with guidelines just like luggage service fees, and air travel companies encounter zero pressure to switch.
In the long term, with a few Congressional support, customers might be able to convince airways they will no longer appreciate getting hit by costs together with the check-in countertop or simply by suitcases dropping in the section. Until after that, the carry on shuffle will probably carry on and become as well-known a game title inside the heavens while Angry Parrots.

Trump’s Government Shutdown And The Border Wall.
If you haven’t seen the news, the US government is in the middle of its longest shutdown in history at the moment, affecting millions of people along the way. As someone who isn’t American, (I’m from Australia), I don’t really understand what’s going on (As far as I know this isn’t even possible for my government) so I’ve done some digging and come up with this post which I hope explains it for all of you out there who might be struggling like me.
Where do we start?
We’re going to start back a little way with the Midterm Elections, the ones Taylor Swift and other high profile people of all persuasions were encouraging US citizens to vote in because unlike in my country, voting is not mandatory. The result of these various state-by-state elections saw people elected to Congress, made up of the Senate and House of Representatives. There are 100 Senators and 435 Representatives. This TED Education video does a really great job of explaining the make up of power in the US government. The hope held by basically all non-Trump specific supporters, even some lifelong Republicans was that the House and Senate would fall into a blue (Democratic) majority, meaning every law Trump tries to pass, has to get through the Democrats, making his quest for fascist dictatorship a little harder... Unfortunately the Senate stayed at a Republican majority but the House of Representatives is held by the Democrats and on another note, this Congress is the most diverse in US history so the resistance won a little.
What does this have to do with the shutdown?
That was just some necessary context on Congress and the way the US government works because Congress are the ones with all the power right now. See, according to Time Magazine, a government shutdown is defined as a process that happens when Congress can’t agree on elements of the federal budget, basically how much money goes to who or what. A shutdown is then declared meaning non-essential government services stop and workers get furloughed or sent home with reduced or non-existent pay.
What can’t they agree on?
The government has shut down because of division over Trump’s controversial project to build a wall at the US-Mexico border, something that will cost in excess of 5 BILLLION DOLLARS (that’s the amount of funding he’s asked the government for.) The Democrats are refusing to approve that funding, not only for practical fiscal reasons - the wall is a huge waste of money and a highly ineffective measure but more importantly for the cruelty and inhumane attitude it represents. Trump has argued the US is facing a security and humanitarian crisis, the wall in his eyes is a protective measure against so called ‘terrorists who steal jobs and offer nothing but evil.’ To my mind, it’s a wall of cowardice and bigotry, protection for entitled white supremacists against a flood of people who historically are the very backbone of the nation. Without immigrants, the farming and food production industries, childcare and domestic service industries would wither and die. These are all services I can guarantee Trump has relied in on the past and would struggle painfully without.
According to this Al Jazeera investigation, the number of undocumented immigrants in 2016 was 10.7 million, the lowest in a decade. Experts agree that with the number rapidly declining from the height it attained in the early 2000′s at 12.2 million and above, this is hardly grounds for the calling of a state of emergency or humanitarian crisis. More likely to fit that criteria is the forced deportation of thousands of individuals, the separation of families and children at the border, the use of teargas by armed and protected border officials against innocent unarmed women and children and the placement of children and others in cages by ICE officials.
Finally, who is affected?
800,000 government workers are currently living without pay. There is no guarantee they’ll be reimbursed once the government reopens.  This obviously affects their ability to pay rent, which will no doubt lead to issues with landlords, buy food and pay for other essentials as well as medical bills and mortgages.  This has affected Homeland Security, Justice, The Treasury and many other government departments.
Food stamps for the month of February are likely to be cut meaning those who live in the lowest socio-economic echelons of American society will go without food, leading to an increase in malnutrition, starvation and other medical issues. Thousands of airport security workers, many who screen passengers and baggage are not working, putting everyone at greater risk of disease and danger. National Parks are closed suffering environmentally from the toll of visitors. Three people have died since the shutdown because of a lack of staff and ability to access resources/carry out medical help efficiently. Vital research and grant money which is often time-sensitive have stopped. Inspections of chemical factories, power plants, oil refineries, water treatment plants, and thousands of other industrial sites have stopped, putting workers and the environment in danger. The Food and Drug Administration has stopped its routine inspections of seafood, fruits, vegetables and other foods at high risk of contamination.Food, medicine and pay for Native Americans at the federal level has also been suspended. These are just a few of the effects.
After all this research, whilst I understand what the shutdown is and what it means, I also can’t believe that this has been going on since December 22nd and that millions of people have suffered these dramatic consequences for almost a month.
In fact because of that if you, your family or someone you know has been affected by the shutdown and you’re willing to share, please reblog with your story. I want people who believe in the wall and in Trump to see the human consequence and cost of his racist bigoted ego. You have all our love and support xxx. If any of you know of initiatives where we can help, please share those as well!

Passenger Service Agent
A typical day at work, starts with finding out what job I am set to do, setting up the check in desks ready for check in to open, check in passengers and if relevant taking payments for excess baggage, extra legroom seats or return meals. Once check in has closed, I then have to go to the departure gate to board passengers on to the aircraft, this involves communication between the staff at the departure gate and the aircraft dispatcher who is in charge of the aircraft while it is on the ground. After boarding all the passengers and making sure everybody is on board, we have to inform the dispatcher so that the doors can be closed in order for the flight to depart.
I have learnt how important it is to be extra vigilant, whether this be expiry dates on passports or visa requirements, or reporting passengers who are acting suspiciously. Also working at the airport has shown me just how much hard work and team work goes in to the whole task of making sure flights depart on time.
The company management are really quite good, they are very amenable and understanding, although I hardly see them around during my working hours, I know that if I have a problem I can call them or send an email and they will help as much as possible.
I have made a lot of friends working in this industry, my co-workers are great to be around, we work hard but have a good time while doing it, There is always someone there to help if you have a problem and we work well as a team.
The hardest part of the job is irritated passengers. I can, most of the time, solve the situation myself but there are occasions when only a supervisor can solve it. I enjoy the face to face interaction with people, I like to know that they have had a good start to their holiday because I have given them good service. Getting a flight out early is always a bonus too! I also like the team work.
Job Summary
To provide all necessary and required passenger/customer services as contracted by the customer to include but not be limited to reservations, ticketing, baggage processing, terminal/gate check-in, jet way operation, greeting arriving passengers, handling of VIPs, provide special passenger assistance, handle customer complaints and other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
Inspect and verify passenger documentation
Issue boarding passes and reschedule passengers affected by flight interruptions or cancellations
Manage passenger baggage processing including handling and fee calculation if applicable
Assist passengers as needed through arrival and check in processes including support for passengers with special needs such as unaccompanied minors (UM), VIP passengers and passengers needing wheelchair assistance
Direct passengers through Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine, as required
Make public address announcements as required
Assist Ramp Service Agents to ensure that wheelchairs, strollers and gate checked bags (cleared through security) are made available for loading upon departure and delivery to passengers upon arrival
Comply with all federal, state, municipal, airport authority and carrier security requirements and policies
Operate equipment to include the jet way, computer keyboards, and carrier specific reservation/ ticketing software
Produce all required, work-related documentation
Other duties as assigned

Let the Games Begin
Hello everyone
We have safely arrived in Dublin...After a very interesting journey here. I’ll start from the beginning.
We said our goodbyes to family and got through security-I apparently look suspicious because I got swabbed twice and was sent to secondary inspection! Hah! Once through security and finally on our plane, we heard an announcement from our captain informing us that they have lost one of our flight attendants and would have to wait for her or get a new one. Not sure how you lose a live person but okay...we ended up leaving about 50 minutes late. This would have been alright if we were flying direct but being jobless for 6 months and always looking for a good deal we booked a flight that had a connection in London which was cheaper. Taking off 50 minutes late gave us 30 minutes to catch our next flight. Being optimistic, we thought it would be close but we could make it. We were somewhat correct. We were at the mid section of the plane so we got off fairly quickly. We had to go through customs so we waited in that line for a while. Even though we had a connecting flight, we then to exit the airport and re-enter it. Europe is very strange. Since we had to leave the airport, we had to go through security again. There was a MASSIVE line up. We wait. We got scanned, Jeff had already gotten his bag. We were just anxiously awaiting mine to come out of the xray machine. When it came out, it got flagged to get searched by a live person (I will have to figure out what’s causing them to flag it??). There seemed to be a lot of people waiting for a live inspection so that line again was quite long. We could feel the minutes ticking by and our chances of catching our flight diminishing by the second. We also needed to go to a completely different terminal so we hopped on a tram and booked it to our other terminal. Once we got to our terminal we ran through the airport to get to our gate. We get to the gate and they had only just started boarding (I really feel as though we made record time in an airport). We felt very accomplished and thought we had avoided the worst...
We landed in Dublin after being awake for about 21 hours at this point-neither of us are very good plane sleepers. We wearily go to the baggage claim to get our perfectly packed bags. We wait. And we wait. And we wait. No bags. The word panic isn’t right because I think at this point we were both tired enough that we were in a zombie trans, but concern set it. We went to the airline baggage inquiry desk. They were unsure but told us that they thought that maybe the bags had missed our flight but would hopefully be coming on the next flight in 4 hours. We decided to hang around the airport because it didn’t make sense catching a bus to the city center to have to return back to the airport. So we waited. And waited. And waited. Both of us fell asleep sitting up, we ended up taking turns of what Jeff has now deemed “micronaps” which are anywhere from 5-15 minute naps that actually helped a lot in battling the tired monster. Finally, 4 hours passed and we went to the phone outside the baggage area that we were instructed to use once the flight had landed to get access into the baggage claim area again. I phoned, gave our reference, and the lady informed me that the flight had been delayed. We wait another 30mins. I call again. They let me know that the flight had only just landed and that they couldn’t let us back in until they had suitcases rolling around the belt. Call back in 15mins. I call back. No suitcases yet. Call back in 20mins. I call back. Still nothing. Now we were beginning to get worried. Maybe they actually had fully lost our bags and were just telling us no luggage has come off that flight? It had become a bit of a joke me calling them, they stopped asking who it was and would just inform me not yet. After about an hour or so, we finally got confirmation that they thought they could see our bags. We were told to go in a staff entrance and pass through security again and we could identify if these are our bags. THEY WERE OUR BAGS!!!!! I was so happy I was jumping around the baggage claim area getting some funny looks along the way. Those bags were packed with so much thought (a year a half of thought!) that it really would have been a shame if it was lost.
We got to Dublin and checked into our air bnb. It is quite nice, it’s in a gated community and we have an ensuite bathroom. As per my cousin, we’re staying in a section of town that is currently being gentrified. After checking in, we met up with my cousin Sara for a drink and some much need food. After that, we finally went to bed at hour 33 of being awake.

Where Should I Pack my Medication When Flying?
Tumblr media
An airplane trip requires you to take all your necessary items, which can sometimes include your medication. Generally, drugs aren’t prohibited when flying, but there are some important details you have to note when traveling with them.
These important details may vary based on the laws in your jurisdiction, but there are some basic rules that you have to take note of:
Confirm that the medicine with you is legal in the country you’re visiting. You can do this by reading up on the laws of that country or checking with the country’s embassy or high commission. Some of the medicine you should pay special attention to are:
Strong painkillers;
Drugs containing codeine;
Controlled drugs – you may have to check with your doctor or pharmacist to confirm what kinds of medications these are;
Prescribed drugs of addiction.
You can travel with both prescribed and non-prescribed medicine on domestic flights. However, some terms and conditions apply when you’re boarding an international flight or if your domestic flight is taking off from an international terminal.
Place your medication in a zip-top plastic bag and keep them in an easily accessible place for when you have to go through security. Also, try to take enough medication along so you’re prepared for unforeseen circumstances. You might not be able to get replacement medicines in the country you’re visiting.
As a continuation of rule three, note that all pills and solid medications have to be screened, so label all your medications accordingly to make this an easy process. You’ll have to display, handle and repack the medicines yourself throughout the screening process. Once your solid drugs have been screened, you can bring them in unlimited amounts, as much as you need. You can also request a visual inspection, but this must be done before the X-ray screening.
For prescribed drugs, always carry your prescription papers along with you as proof. Also, ensure that the names on the prescription sheets match that of the medicines with you.
You don’t have to pack your medication in its original bottle, and you may not need to tell the inspectors anything about your medicine. However, that will be a different scenario if the drug is liquid, as they have stricter guidelines for liquid medication.
While it isn’t necessary, the officer might still want to ask questions about your pills. This is why it’s important to keep a detailed list and description of your medications. You can keep them in a pocketbook or on your mobile device. That way, you can easily refer to it whenever questions are asked.
For liquid medication, you have to present them to the officers at the airport for additional screening. Put them in carry-on bags over 3.4 ounces in reasonable amounts for the flight.
Now that you know some of the basic rules of traveling with medication, it’s time to ask yourself, where should I pack my medication when flying? We have the answer.
According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), you can keep your medication checked or on carry-on baggage. This is so you can have immediate access whenever you need them.
A carry-on is also very important because you need to keep your medicine with you at all times to prevent them from getting lost in transit.
Also, if you have a condition that might suddenly flare up during your flight, you might want to have a medical alert bracelet on you. This bracelet should state your medical condition, its treatment, and possibly your doctors contact information.
Doing this will help the flight attendants know what to do in case of an emergency. This is also why you need to keep your medication in an easily accessible carry-on baggage. You or the flight attendants might not have the time to search through your luggage in the event of an emergency. So, the nearer your pills are to you, the better.
Conclusion
Like your other belongings, you also need to pay attention to where you keep your medication during a flight. It will go a long way in preserving your medicine and ensuring you have access to it at all times.
If you need a medication bag for your next trip, you can check out our selection of locking medication bags.

The Adventure - Day 2
Twelve hours of flying down and I finally arrived at my final(ish) destination at Athens International Airport. The flight was shorter but felt so much longer after how long a day it had been already. During the flight I had met a nice older Greek couple who had spent some time in Copenhagen with their young granddaughter and were now returning to spend the rest of their summer in peace. Their English was better than my Greek, but communication was very difficult and pantomimes were heavily relied upon in order to express our messages. We had talked at length for a couple of hours and I felt a real sense of connection with them as I got myself together to leave the airplane. I fished in my pocket and pulled out two of the toonies that I forgot to get turned into bills during my time in Canada and gave them one each. Their eyes widened, and huge grins crossed their faces as they turned the coin over in their hand. I showed them our dime, quarter, loonie and toonies in turn and explained each of the images and their significance to Canadian culture. They mostly nodded, continuing to turn the coins over in their hand. The man – Alexandros – went into his pocket and produced a two Euro coin which he gave to me. I was embarrassed because he was trading me money he could use for hunks of metal that neither of us could use, but graciously accepted all the same. As I closed my fist around the coin, I joked with them how that it was a better exchange than what I had been offered at the airport several hours earlier. As we walked through the Arrivals area towards the baggage claim Alexandros talked about his granddaughter and how happy he was to be able to see her, if even it was a rare event that required a four-hour flight. It was touching, and I thought about my own parents in that moment as I felt a keen knot of homesickness. (Hi Mum! Hi Dad!)
Before I knew it, Alexandros and Henia had found their bags on the trundling turn-style and moved to leave the airport. I didn’t notice at the time as I was craned to see my own bag but spun around when I felt an arm gently touch the back of my shoulder. I spun around to Alexandros flashing a large smile as he said he would try to visit Canada one day and wished my luck on my journey and my studies. I flashed them a smile back and thanked them again for the two Euros they gave me for my toonies and said farewell. I watched after them as they left, smiling as I saw Henia slip her hand into her husband’s, lacing their fingers together as they melded back into the bustling crowd. Partings are sad in little ways and I was affected by the time we all spent talking and laughing over things as small as coins. It is these little moment that I want to tell you about; these little moments that I was to record not only to pass on, but to remember. Just when that connection had ended, another curious one was developing between me and a silent stranger waiting alongside the turn-style. After some time, the crowd had thinned substantially as each person reached and grabbed belongings and walked out of the airport. As the crowd dwindled a very real concern began to develop as I did not see my very distinct backpack on the belt yet. One by one each person claimed their bag and left me to my growing anxiety. Soon several dozen became two dozen, two dozen became ten and then became six as each bag was claimed one after another. Now my anxiety was beginning to mount in earnest; my mind raced with the reality that my bags had somewhere been lost between Victoria and Athens. A calm and rational panic took hold as I considered this reality while keeping my eyes fixed on the yawning hole in the wall that was spitting out suitcases and colourful duffel bags as a brisk pace just moments before. Now the leftovers and unclaimed dregs has begun to complete an entire revolution before coming back around almost mockingly as my calm and rational panic began to evolve into a dark and anxious one. It was at this point that I noticed I had two other sufferers alongside me: a tall, thin man wearing a white Tommy Hilfiger tee with thin, rectangular glasses, and a broad, stocky man wearing what can only be described as the Greek equivalent of Tapout.
Mr. Tapout was with us for only a few minutes as his bag appeared onto the belt, eagerly claimed by a very relieved traveller. That left only myself and Mr. Thins. Now this is where this moment really stuck with me and I do feel the need to record it for sharing and for posterity. I could tell that Mr. Thins and I didn’t speak the same language but in that moment we flashed identical nervous smiles at one another and communicated as clearly and confidently as any other people engaged in conversation. We looked at each other with sad, anxious eyes and developed a silent connection over the burgeoning reality of complete and utter disaster of losing luggage at the end of a long journey. I have never had it happen myself and felt as though there was some sort of poetic requirement for me to lose my luggage at the beginning of what I hope will be a grand adventure through Europe on my own. As the turn-style continued to spit out the same four or so bags, the exchange of nervous glances increased in frequency and severity as both Mr. Thins and I were coming to terms with the fact that we may be completely and utterly fucked. There was something profound about how both of us expressed our anxiety and the severity of the situation without a single work exchanged. Only with knowing looks and empathy did we both understand what the other was going through completely and painfully.. This continued for probably three of the longest minutes of my entire life when – thanks to some god or minor spirit watching over me – my green brickbag emerged from the port in the wall, flooding me with intense relief. So relieved was I that I exclaimed “Oh, thank fuck” without really realizing it and covetously grabbed my backpack and retreated to the nearest bench where I could inspect my bag for signs of damage or anything else of concern. Finding nothing, I moved to continue the next stage of my journey. That’s when I remembered Mr. Thins. I slowly looked over my shoulder and saw that he was still very bagless and very anxious. At that moment I felt a very interesting combination of relief and guilt as he looked over the conveyor for any sign of his bag. Hoisting my own luggage over my shoulders (the smaller of my two bags secured onto my chest) I began my trek to the nearest Information Desk to suss out how I’d get into Athens proper. As I marched along the identical conveyor belts towards the exit, I looked over my shoulder. Mr. Thins was still there, hands on hips, staring into the portal still recycling those same four bags from before. Now he was looking desperately around the room and I hoped he wouldn’t see me. I didn’t know his name, I didn’t know his language or destination or anything about him, but I didn’t want him to see me. I felt ashamed, almost like I was abandoning another traveller in need while greedily enjoying the relief I got from being able to shed the bleak, luggage-less reality of a few minutes earlier. As he faded from few he paced around the conveyor looking increasingly distraught as he was the only one from our flight who hadn’t claimed his bag. I turned away from him and continued onwards, quietly thanking whoever was listening for the chance to feel intense relief in place of the stress and anxiety that was very likely crushing my dear friend Mr. Thins. I sincerely hope he finds his bag and makes it safely home feeling the same, intoxicating relief that I felt.
Godspeed Mr. Thins.
