I rmbr watching it right after merlin bc i wanted another medieval stuff. I always though vikings was one of the straightest shows out there and then THEY happened. It's about the way they would always choose trust and caring about eo more than anybody else, athelstan being the only person ragnar ever said i love you to... damn, thats actual love right there, insane

oh anon I've been invested in athelstan and ragnar since the moment raganr spared his life that first scene in the monastery. i knew their relationship was going to be special, even if it was left at friendship and then it became more ad it was the most beautiful thing. the way they cared about each other and respected each other through everything. it's indescribably beautiful. the level of devotion despite everything makes me die.

LISTEN ECBERT WAS SO IN LOVE WITH ATHELSTAN ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY my friend and I were talking about this (taylor if you're reading this hi i didn't tag you because i'm annoying askjvakjfs) we were saying how everyone who meets athelstan falls for him except for floki which is so interesting since he's the one who's supposed to be the most intuitive, and so if it wasn't only about religion, as i believe it wasn't, it definitely wasn't about who ahtelstan was as a person either. floki must've seen how devoted ragnar and athlestan were to each other over everyone and everything and he saw the danger in that.

you're so right about how ragnar wouldn't have got that far without athelstan. it's so merthur how they complete each other. they're two sides of the same coin.

I do believe their last couple of scenes just say the most about their relationship. the way athelstan just crashes the feast and everyone keeps glaring at him, and then floki exposes his wrist for all to see how he's not loyal to ragnar anymore but athelstan just doesn't seem like to give a flying fuck about it. then ragnar just comeing over abandoning his favorite spot where he likes to spy on everyone from (literally everyone even the closest people to him that he NEVER LEAVES istg) and for a moment you think he was about to do or say something stupid, but he DOES NOTHING and just takes athelstan away by the arm not even sparing anyone a look. ATHELSTAN HASNT EVEN TOLD HIM THAT HE TOOK THE ARM RING OFF and ragnar just acts like it means absolutely nothing. and then he takes him to the back and introduces to the wanderer who taught him how to navigate the sea. ragnar hasn't even told his sons or even lagertha about the wanderer and then just out of nowhere decides to introduce athelstan to him. I MEAN WHAT KIND OF TRUST DO YOU NEED TO HAVE IN SOMEONE I SWEAR IT MAKES MY HEAD EXPLODES THINKING ABOUT IT
