1 wii u gamepad functionality is so good with splatoon. no one except nintendo knew how to use this fucking thing, they might as well rename it the splatoon console because it's the only game that ever made proper use of it (outside nintendoland. that game would fuck if it had online multiplayer (<- only had siblings part time + very rarely had friends over)). it had the map available at all times, you could tap the screen to super jump (much more intuitive than 2s system - I used to use stick controls and trying to jump to beakons was annoying as fuck with the right stick! it's way easier with motion controls but easier still with the touchscreen) and was also used with inkstrike special to choose which part of the map to strike regardless of where you were. also squidjump and it's amiibo locked siblings were played on the gamepad while waiting for the lobby to fill up. I will always miss her
2. the maps have so much personality! especially the later additions. nevermind the extremely varied map layouts and gimmicks, im talking shit like ancho-v having servers hidden under the platforms, concept art all over the floor and arcade cabinets and desks with laptops you can climb on. the laundry someone left on a fence in flounder that you can ink and climb on for a sniper perch. the trees in flounder and urchin underpass. the crane in saltspray.
3. it's subtle but the inklings all have a purple undertone under all the ink colours, most visible at the bottom of their tentacles when the lighting is right. its really pretty!!
4. echolocator is pretty fun actually, it's pretty useful to have. not surprised haunt and cold blooded didn't reappear in splat 2 (iirc. it has been a little while) considering they dropped it. it's not the most exciting special but it's genuinely really useful
5. getting used to x being the jump button again is fucking with me Bad
