Singing
Wednesday 2nd May- I want it all (We Will Rock You)
This session had to be one of my favourites simply because I instantly fell in love with the song. The harmony was so simple but put with the melody line it sounded so powerful. Originally I was singing the harmony line and then got put in the melody line however, I asked too switch to the harmony again as I fell in love with it and I had so much fun singing it. When singing this song we had to have such an aggressive look on our face and the column fo the song needed to blow the roof off. We needed to intimidate the audience but singing directly at them. This was a song were bit had no planned dance or movement therefore, you could sing directly to the audience or rock out. I was on the blocks at the back so I would rock out through the verses and then in the chorus I'd stop and sing directly to the audience. Our costume for this piece would be black colours as it’s a dark colour and it comes across more dangerous.

Wednesday 16th May- Here I go again (Rock of Ages)
I was so happy to finally start working on things from Rock of ages considering it was just over a month away from show day! In this song, I believe the emotion I will be portraying is anger. The reason of this is because everything has just happened between Stacee Jaxx and at certain points Drew and Sherrie both sing to each other. I feel as though Drew and Sherrie are only angry at each other therefore when singing with other members of cast on stage or singing directly out to the audience we can be cheesy musical theatre again. I really enjoy ‘Here I go again’ as it portrays many emotions for example the slow tempo shows emotional and depressed and then when the speed goes up tempo it shows both happy and angry. Originally, I was meant to be singing the harmony in this song however, Becky who plays Drew could reach the harmony in this song in chest voice whereas I could only reach it in head voice and considering were meant to be angry. Therefore, I believe Becky’s voice is more suited for this harmony. One thing that I struggled with in this song was the middle section and how my character has to try improvise notes and riffs and trills. This worried me because I cant do trills and riffs and when I sing i don't try to complicate notes, I keep them straight. However, this musical was made to push me so I kept trying and practicing in my own time hoping it would prove successful.

Monday 21st May- Don't need nothing but a good time (Rock of ages)
This song is the opening number in Rock of ages therefore we need to make this number big. This number has no choreography however, this is the number were everyone needs to introduce their charcaters and its a number were we need to raise the roof with volume and make the audience become involved with what are doing. In this number I decided to make my character look excited because she was on the sunset strip and this was the place she moving onto once she said goodbye to her parents. This song need to make a good impression on the audience as it’s all the characters and they need to have an effect on the audience.

-Sister Christian (Rock of ages)
In this song mother, father and Sherrie are all saying goodbye to each other so there are many emotions flowing in this song such as: anger, scared and upset. All these need to be shown in the song and the dialogue that takes place during the song. Sherrie is moving away from her parents as she wants to go and make it big as an actress but her parents don’t believe in her and are worried about her going. This song was straight forward as we all learnt it in advance and there is no harmonies. I believe the only part that we found difficult was the tempo change as we kept originally getting the timing wrong and starting to early.

Tuesday 22nd May- more then words (Rock of Ages)
In this number this is sherrie singing a solo. My character just got of the phone from her father who didn't want to talk to and ended the call on them. She’s got no one and she feels so alone because she cant even talk to her own parents because they don't want to know her. In this song my aim is to show emotion when singing to show the audience how I feel. After I've sang theres a small section of dialogue and the Waitress 1 sings to me and tells me time will fix it and says I'll be okay. I feel as though this number was successful as mine and the character waitress 1 voices work together because my voice is quite held back in this number and she comes in with a strong level of projection. one thing I feel needs to be improved in this song is the relationship between me and Waitress 1 and my emotion through my voice and facial expressions. One thing that I believe I struggled with was in this song there is a slight key change as it goes into a minor chord and I struggled to get this note as it was so close to the one I previously sang.

-I’ve been waiting for a girl (Rock of Ages)
This song is sung by Drew and Sherrie on their first date and requires a very strong connection because this is the song were they're telling each other that they have feelings for each other so this song would require lots of eye contacts and them to have a few movements of the touching in some way or them about to kiss. This number has no choreography so restarted as though they were on a motorbike and then they get of to have a picnic. We had to make this as cheesy as we could and research different 80′s music videos to see what they did to see if we could get any inspiration. When singing this song in rehearsals I struggled to feel any sort of connection with Becky and because of this I just sang and decided to focus on the emotion and the connection in a later rehearsal.

-I wanna rock (Rock of ages)
This number is one of the most heavily tock pieces of music in Rock of Ages and it’s Drew telling us how he feels. All the chorus members don't sing, they shout things in response to what Drew is saying for example ‘ROCK!’ ‘NO!’ ‘Go!’ I found this a boring number to do as all we had to do was shout but I felt as though once we learnt the choreography not would make more sense and we wouldn't look as strange as we did just standing there shouting. When people were shouting I don’t believe emotion or passion was put in to it as these words were meant to be shouted with aggression and meaning but nothing really came of it. I feel as though in this number I am a chorus member unto the point were reality hits me and I start realising whats going on around me so I shout ‘OKAY I GET IT!’ Which then cuts of the music.

Monday 4th June- Harden my heart/ shadows of the night (Rock of Ages)
In this song Sherrie is singing about how she needs to move on from Drew and she's telling herself that she's better of without him because his hurt her and he doesn't want to know her. Sherrie starts this song sad and angry at herself and Drew however, when justice Charlier is introduced her mood switches and she realises she's not alone and it cheers her up. I feel like when I sing Shadows of the night I want to put aggressiveness and attitude init then being upset and then when I sing with justice Charlier I on Harden my heart I realise I need to let go of Drew and move on. On the word ‘Darling’ I go into head voice in rehearsals however, after watching videos of others singing it, I realise it needs to be in chest voice because its strong and I'm angry. In this song there is no choreography however, there is movement from me being on the blocks to meeting with justice Charlier and then walking away then to come back and meet the other girls.

-Anyway you want it (Rock of Ages)
When we heard the harmonies for this song I instantly fell in love with this song 1000x more! I believe the harmonies added so much more attitude to this song and it made it a stronger piece. This section of the play did confuse me just because in the scene previous were in the strip club about to perform and I'm really shy and fall over but when the song starts I'm reeky confident like I've been doing that sort of dancing for a long time. I believe this number went successful because everybody enjoys singing this song and was excited to learn the choreography of it therefore it had so much energy.

Thursday 7th June -Wanna know what love is
This song meant a lot to me as I know very well from listening to it quite a lot with dad when I was younger. However, the fact I was performing a sexual song using sexual improvisation with a girl was a little nerve racking. Simply for the fact it made me feel uncomfortable and I didn't want it to show on stage however, before we learnt the songs and we were just doing movement, I was very awkward and uncomfortable on stage and would just laugh at what was happening as I dint know how to react. When learning the song we focused more on getting the harmonies and song right then the connection at the moment. Now that we've actually gone over the song I feel more comfortable with what we have achieved and I feel as though next time we do it I can do it more confidently.
https://youtu.be/J4AWDtkECCc
-Every rose has it’s thorn
This song is sung between Justice Charlier and Sherrie. I feel as though by performance night I will be able to put emotion in my song because this scene is about sherrie and justice saying goodbye to each other as they are moving on and me and Hannah will also be saying goodbye to each other therefore, I connect it tot a real life situation and make myself emotional. There was no choreography in this number it was just me and Hannah looking at each other and singing out to the audience. In the song I believe Sherrie is blaming herself for everything that has gone wrong between her and Drew and her family. One thing I struggled with in this session was the harmony. I struggled with it that much that I wasn't able to get it by the night of the performance so instead I just sang the last line of the song with Hannah as I felt this would be better because it’s as though that last line is our final goodbye. I feel like this number could often worked on more so I was able to get the harmony.
