Archer:

We had a nice chat for an hour or so, Cassandra, or Cassie as she liked to be called, was shy but she talked a lot. It must have been a nervous thing she did. She told me all about her parents, how her father started out as a fairly laid back guy, but a generations long feud with the Landgraabs made him become paranoid, bitter and obsessed with uncovering scandal within the wealthy families. Cassie’s grandfather, Gunther Goth, was a mean spirited man who was constantly belittling Morty right up until his death five years ago under mysterious circumstances. The verdict was heart attack, but Morty was convinced he was poisoned.

When Cassie talked about Gunther and her grandmother Cornelia, it was with anger over how they treated her father. She talked about Bella with equal anger, convinced that she was constantly cheating on her father. I didn’t attempt to presume that I knew what was going on with the Goths, I was just there to lend an ear to a highly frustrated teenage girl who had no one else to turn to.

CASSANDRA: I love my mother, I really do, but I hate what she puts my dad through! He’s devoted to her completely, has been since they were children, but she doesn’t seem to appreciate that!

ARCHER: I’m sure she does, in her own way.

CASSANDRA: Nope, this isn’t the first affair and it won’t be the last, I’m just glad it’s not you...you’re...nice!

ARCHER: Thanks, I think? Look if you ever need to talk, I’m always here. I grew up in a few foster homes and I was usually the older brother figure who sat with the younger kids to lend an ear when they needed it, that applies to you, okay?

CASSANDRA: Well I really should get going, and I’m sorry I accused you of banging my mum! She’s way too old for you anyway!

ARCHER: Just how old do you think I am kiddo?

CASSANDRA: I dunno, 20?

ARCHER: Pfff, I wish! Nah, add three years to that!

CASSANDRA: Still too young for my mum, she’s almost 50!

She smiled at me then, she was a pretty little thing, it was scandalous that she didn’t have friends or a social life. She was young and extremely intelligent, the other kids of Willow Creek would be lucky to call her their friend! Oh and thinking I was 20 gave her extra credit too!

ARCHER: So, I’ll see you tomorrow for dinner then?

CASSANDRA: Yep, can’t wait!

And just like that, I’d made another friend!

Cassie:

I was so mortified the night I went round to Archer’s in my mother’s slutty dress trying to get him to love me the way I loved him. I went over there a couple of days later to apologise but I just couldn’t bring myself to knock on the door...

...so I hid away in Goth Manor and never darkened his door again! By the time my birthday came around, I wasn’t in much of a mood to celebrate my coming of age. This should have been a happy time in my life, but I’d humiliated myself in front of the man I loved and there was no going back from that. He thought I was a stupid little girl, he already had a woman in his bed, why would he even look at me twice? 

My mother smiled and told me to blow out my candles, make a wish, for it might come true. Stupid woman!

My father and brother sang me Happy Birthday, it was sweet, I adored Alex and my dad. I hated Bella Bachelor with all of my being! She didn’t deserve the name Goth, not until she learned to close her legs and stop cheating on daddy!

I did make a wish though, to find love. To find someone who would love me for me, who would worship me and adore me and make me feel loved! Someone who would help me to forget Archer Clancy!

I wondered if I could ever forget my Archie, I could never face him again that was for sure, but it didn’t stop me from loving him! Perhaps my little crush would disappear when I was older? But at the time it didn’t feel like a crush to me, it felt like he was everything, no one else would ever come close!
