They were the first enslaved Africans to touch what would later become the United States of America, just under 157 years later. The #AfricaInAmerica, the #AmericanAfrican--whatever you want to call them, was born on this day, 4 centuries ago. They fascinate me, as an artist, even though I am a bonafide member of these people taken from their land of origin. These are the same people responsible for #negrospirituals, which gave birth to #theblues, which gave birth to #gospel, which gave birth to #rockandroll #rhythmandblues and #soulmusic, which gave birth to #funk, which gave birth to #disco, which gave #hiphop (an amalgamation of any of its predecessors) and #housemusic, which gave birth to #techno and so on, and so on that dramatically changed the face of the entire world...and that's just the arts. . Inventors, politicians, revolutionaries, physicians, scientists, soldiers, peacemakers, philosophers, athletes, artists, architects, farmers, laborers (especially unpaid & enslaved), and so many more whose contributions we know or have yet to uncover the covered up truth who literally BUILT this country called America...who without their blood, toil, and talents, the country would not exist as we know it today. .
