hello hi! I was hoping I could persuade you to talk a little about that whole losing bones and souls thing at some point possibly? if the mood strikes! it sounds like some very intriguing and also terrifying worldbuilding, ok thank you have a great day c:
yes i have been persuaded, the serotonin of the Little Blue Circle has done it
SO (<-that is a signal i will be. rambling quite a bit):
for context, it's for my fantasy WIP--GFS--about a bunch of queer disaster criminals which i first got the idea for when i was... like... 8???? i was Small that's all i know. but i didn't do anything with it until november 2018, when i started drafting and it was terrible! because i was still Bad At This! (we've established on this blog im a teenager right. well when ur a teenager u learn very fast)
But ever since like... December 2018, i've had the same general concept for the villains; seven monstrous creatures, which i've now realized are primordial gods because Why Chill, who are basically intent on burning down the whole world. But they're sleeping right now. They can't do anything.
The problem is that the protagonists are the ones who will eventually wake them up. (there's 1 protag for each monster.)
Now, as you can imagine, being prophesied to literally burn the world down is not good, and waking up primordial chaos gods cannot be good for your health. Basically if the gods half-wake with the protagonists' help they can start preparing to destroy the world, and then fully wake, take their souls (yoink) and pilot their soulless--but now powerful beyond compare--bodies as weapons of destruction.
But Nico, you cry, where do the bones come in??? Well that my friend is under the cut because this gets long. (Also tw for... violence described in text because loosing your bones is not easily talked about in a pleasant way)
So essentially come book 2, we have a lil disaster character: Rowan, my wonderful assassin child who is technically very much an antagonist till later on. She's also one of the prophesized, but it doesn't bother her because she was raised to die <3 family am i right
basically her side wants the world to burn. they want to start it over, because humanity is terrible. So her job is to get close to the other prophesized, then kill them in a very specific way so the other human villains can just fuckin take their bones from their corpses, do some weird freaky puppet magic, and give the power of waking up the monsters to 6 people on their own side (rowan already being the 7th) via... erm... consuming a potion made with their bones.
Fun.
(Yes this is extremely fucking fucked up) (also yes she has to kill them without breaking any bones. that is. Difficult)
But??? Why bones, you wonder??? why not blood or skin or spit??? And to that i say, incredibly cheerfully and not at all in a sense that should be terrifying, bones are the most useful part of the human corpse! At least in this fantasy world. Blood is where surface-level magic gets in and circulates through your body, but in the end, it seeps through your blood and into your bones. All the magic you collect that you never used (and you're constantly subconsciously collecting magic) settles in your bones, and if someone takes them, they have all of that.
Obviously the ability to wake up primordial chaos gods is not something that is used often, so pretty much since birth it went straight into their bones. Like all bone magic, it's really hard and draining to access, but is much more powerful because it was just stewing there and you have it all at once. So... yeah, if anyone besides the prophesized wants to use the Cool Bone Magic, they need the Cool Bones.
askhfjkshdfk idk if this makes sense, also feel free to ask More, but that's basically the rundown on "bones 'n souls". also fun fact the protagonists dont even know their bones are in danger til halfway thru book 2, so. thats a thing
(picture rowan trying to make sure none of these idiots break their bones bad enough to never heal... while said idiots are literally attempting to kill a government official and also dont know shes trying that. its funny)
anyway thank you for asking!!! hope you liked learning about the Bones And Also Souls they can lose!!! i hope i dont sound like a serial killer now!!! good day!!!
Edit: just realized an in-depth conversation about my magic system and world is. probably something i should use my taglist with @the-gay-lady-of-ravenclaw-tower @timelybees
