cant stress enough how much i must have missed by reading it so fast but now that the dust is settling i wanna say that i rly liked the scene where chainsaw man was trying to fulfill all of denji’s dreams (touching) while killing several terrified people (horrifying) and kobeni tried twice to serve him a burger and tripped and threw the burger all over him and the ground both times (hilarious) and the second time her shitty boss was like “oh i get it, i’m getting punk’d right now” only to be immediately killed by chainsaw man (emotion indescribable in any human language)

anybody else think of little details like this where denji isn’t doing something correctly because I do. I think about it a lot and I might cry.

Aren’t you also completely enamored by Makima?

chainsaw man understands trauma and abuse very well in my opinion and i think nayuta as a character is just such a good way to express its messaging on these topics. like denji is literally raising the reincarnated version of the woman who sexually groomed him, manipulated him, literally fabricated his entire life, and killed his family of aki and power -- and when he asks how he can prevent her from turning out just like makima, the answer is "give her lots of hugs," essentially meaning "love her." pochita literally said that the reason makima was the way that she was because she had no one to love and no one loved her -- and that doesn't excuse what she did in any way, but nayuta didn't do any of that. denji breaks the cycle of violence through loving nayuta, despite and because of how he himself was neglected and abused all his life. while that's genuinely a very simple message that a lot of narratives with abuse themes actually do have, it just makes perfect sense for chainsaw man's narrative since the whole reason the story is even happening is because denji showed love and kindness to pochita, who had never known love or kindness before.

i looooove that the only thing all the demons working w denji and public safety remember from hell is the sound of themselves getting hugged to death by their bestie Mr. Chainsaw who loves them so gd much

It’s messing with my head how she really is doing that “Come to mommy” pose. With her arms outstretched and kneeling (almost to be at eye level), like she’s reaching to hug a small child.
Which when you think about war makes sense. Sacrificing everything, even children, for the sake of victory.

reading chainsaw man and trying to piece together theories makes me feel like an insane person. like no yeah totally pochita is actually the birth devil and reze is coming back and aki isn't actually dead and its all because of this one slight detail in the background and its all going to culminate in one big story about trauma. meanwhile no one has fucking mouths in the manga right now

new csm chapter spoilers sorry but im gonna have a yoru moment. I love how this entire time yoru has been able to turn the gun and tank devils into weapons that surpass anything asa can make but because the idea of hurting her children upsets her so deeply she instead turns to forcing a human into experiencing deep loss so she doesn't have to. its selfish but also shows a part of her that is deeply vulnerable and seeing this kind of pathos in yoru for the first time fleshes out her character in a really interesting way. I really really like how this panel progression wordlessly shows how much this sacrifice affects her.
I also like how this chapter recontextualizes the gun devil and shows that even the being responsible for the most devastating loss and destruction of life in the series has someone who cares for them. I really love when devils are shown not to just be rampaging beasts but people with complex feelings and lives even though they're still responsible for undeniable suffering.
