do you have any book recommendations? i'm trying to find new books to read but am terrible at finding what i want or would like. you obviously have great tastes, so i thought i'd ask you! c:
“great taste” hahahahaaaaaaa….*cries*
Okay, so I’m not sure what genre you were interested I’ll just rec some of my faves (read: Fantasy):
The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo (YA, Fantasy, Russian setting): okay real talk, the first book is ‘meh’ and I only cared about the Alina x Darkling. The second book was awesome (especially the ending) and the third book was great till the trashy ending I pretend never happened. I would still recommend it overall due to the unique setting and characters being idiotic but lovable beans. Expect Mal. He can choke.
Six of Crows Duology by Leigh Bardugo (YA/kind of adult, Fantasy, Russian setting): set in the same world as the above, this series is about a bunch of misfit criminals pulling off an impossible heist. Leigh’s second (and widely accepted as better) series. Great action, great characters (my trash boi Kaz Brekker) and lovely non-cheesy romance. Top notch series.
The Poppy War Trilogy by R. F Kuang (Adult, Fantasy, Chinese 20th Century military inspired): one of the best books I’ve read in my adult life. Unreal. Magical. Really dark. Please check out the trigger warnings on this book before reading. But if you think you can stomach the heavy themes of war (read: brutality, death, mentions of explicit abuse and drug use) then this book is incredible. Starts almost like Harry Potter. With our main character getting into a prestigious military school. There she learns that by using certain “drugs” she can channel the power of the gods and when the war resumes unexpectedly, this books grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let you go. It’s based on actual Chinese 20th-century military history and it’s harrowing. It’s a tough read but god if I didn’t adore it, and the guts it took to write this and not sugarcoat anything.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (YA/Adult, Historical Fiction, WWII Germany): This book is narrated by Death during the WWII. It will also make you cry like a baby (even I teared up a bit). That’s all you need to know. The rest is a magic you must experience for yourself.
Vicious (Duology?) by V.E Schwab (Adult, Alt Universe, Superhero/Supervillain): the biggest inspiration for my hero/villain!au. Amazing characters and amazing dialogue. A fascinating look into morality and what separates a hero from a villain. Where does one draw the line? A story of two ambitious, brilliant young men that meet at college and start researching an area of study that looks into the possibility of near-death experiences giving you superpowers. The story picks up 10 years later as one of them gets out of prison and sets out to find his friend and get his revenge. It will make you question the entire time who’s the villain and who’s the hero, or if there even is one.
