I have a lot of feelings over heroines that people write off for being too kind or too naive or unjaded. Kind people are not boring. People who have seen hell and still cling to the beauty of life are not boring. People that look evil in the face and continue to try and shine anyway aren't boring. Nor should it mean they're flat characters.

Trauma doesn't always present as being cautious and wary and weary. There's a lot of people who have trauma and try to see the world's beauty past it, not through it. I'm just tired of ppl shitting on girls for trying to wade through hell and still offering their hand for others.

#peachplays: tales of symp #hot take. jaded characters aren't interesting by the virtue of being a big bad loner or mean #they're interesting - to me - BECAUSE a lot of them still DO want to see the good #like... idk #i hate the notion that female characters in general are more boring #and i hate the concept that female characters who aren't mean and jaded are cookie cutter and stereotypical #like just say you're a pessimist and get out #don't worry I'll hold onto all the light looking hope having acting-their-age girls #having untreated trauma that you actively don't try and work on isn't quirky.#this is tangential. idk. people seem to pack bond easier with character who exhibit their own vices #and a lot of the time the characters aren't handling them in a healthy way. and i think ppl see characters #who actively fight their demons and find hope as. unrelatable. because so many of us aren't on the upswing of our mental illness #and especially as children and teens there's this stigma for suffering. all protagonists are edgy and sad bc horrible things have occurred #and it's drilled into us from media that to suffer is almost a virtue. suffering breeds character.#no. suffering breeds hurt. period. and just bc your suffering hurts doesn't mean you get to shit on cheerful characters
