reading the first edition of whipping girl (2007) and getting to the last ch where serano talks abt her current observations on queer activism and then makes predictions abt what the future might look like

#just. the overall observation of inward vs outward political turns....#v much feel as though much of current queer activism + rhetoric gets tangled up + bogged down w like #this obsession w defining + categorizing + policing the nebulous + inherently individual experience of identity #rather than like. actually focusing on the material conditions that should be uniting us #uggggggghhhhhghggghhh #book recs #also a big part of what she's criticizing + fearful of seeing an increase of in this section is specifically. transmisogyny #which um. yeah! she called it!#also. making me think abt the seeming rise i have noticed re:online lesbian discourse abt masculine dykes #in particular. the widely accepted trend of shitting on masculine lesbians online from within queer/sapphic spaces #serano talks abt how she's noticing this trend of ppl shitting on gender in queer spaces when they perceive that gender as 'conservative'#and i think that idea that masc lesbians somehow have a 'conservative'/'unsubversive' gender is often the excuse given for what is #otherwise just run-of-the-mill lesbophobia #so!!!!!! yeah. anyway i'll stop writing an essay in the notes now
