— BACKSTORY

everyone knew the rogers family. initially starting off as a notable tech company based out of london, theodore rogers was always ahead of the curve when it came to the coolest gadgets. it was no surprise that he made an empire. aiden rested comfortably as the second oldest of five children alongside his twin sister ophelia -- beating her arrival by minutes.

his father’s plan was always for his older brother toby to take over as ceo, ophelia would be cfo, and aiden himself would take over as coo. there was no forced sibling rivalry and vying for the top spot. the three oldest rogers children would share the fortune, alongside their other two siblings. family over everything.

aiden grew up as a mischievous and playful kid in a relatively happy family. his biggest flaw was that he was too damn rich for his own good and was highly unaware of his privilege. but he always had toby, the sensible one of the close-knit brothers, to balance him out. ophelia was just as wild as he would and them together made for chaotic times

when he was eleven, the five rogers children were at the country club with their nanny and having a grand old time. just playing a game of who could hold their breath underwater for the longest. goofing around, really. that was until toby tripped, hitting his head on the side of the pool and sunk under the water. aiden had laughed. he thought his brother was joking around. it wasn’t until he saw the blood when he realized something was wrong. but it was too late. tobias rogers, only fourteen, had drowned to death. 

the loss of such a vital part of the family hit everyone hard. his father worked a lot more and started to hide his grief within a stream of women that were not his wife. his mother withered into cold nothingness, nearing borderline neglect on the rest of the children. ophelia was angry and self-destructive. and his younger siblings did not understand. it was in that moment when aiden decided to scream fuck the world.

had his first drink the day of toby’s funeral and never looked back. as he got older and more jaded, he used drugs and alcohol as an outlet. as the new “boy king”, he should have been trying to clean up his act but fuck that.

decided to get the fuck out of london and his now toxic home life after secondary school, attending columbia university across the pond. he double majored in business management and computer science. only god knows how the fuck he managed to keep afloat, considering he was drunk or high pretty much the entire time.

junior year, the girl he was “dating” at the time overdosed on the cocaine the two were partaking in at the time. she survived, thank god. but obviously, this was grounds for a suspension. would have been an expulsion but the rogers name had too much clout and money for the university to ever dare to do that.

but his father was pissed. aiden was a shame to the family name. tobias would have never done something like this. blah, blah, blah. long story short, he was cut off from the family fortune. angry at his family for turning their backs on him when he was evidently still grieving, he renounced them all ( including ophelia ) and decided to make his own path.

graduated with top honors and went into overdrive to be better than the person his father had been molding him to be. very mark zuckerberg in the way aiden takes zero prisoners when it comes to ambitions and his career. has definitely stepped on the heads of people who helped him because he was driven by a ruthless want.

his breakthrough came at the age of twenty-seven and it was a massive dating app that made him an instant celebrity in the tech world, garnering millions. 

utilizing this, aiden formed his own tech company to rival that of his father and often goes toe to toe with him even to this day. it’s called a&r industries and it has expanded over the years in being one of the most notable names in the tech world. the company typically specializes in developing apps ranging from a virtual assistant ( named toby ) to social media. recently, the company is taking the big step of developing their own devices.

met hadley at the start of his buzzing success and fell in love. that phrase should be said with a grain of salt though because aiden was not kind to her. he drunk too much, cheated too much, and ultimately took her for granted. still, she was there when he hit rock bottom, cleaning him up and sending him to rehab. 

bitterly attended rehab for about six months and when he got out, hadley stuck around for a bit but decided that perhaps they needed a period of separation. aiden didn’t try to make her stay. no official divorce yet, though.

has done a guest lecture class once a semester at riverbank for the past two years as a favor to the ratcliffes, close family friends. has no desire to teach and relies heavily on his teaching assistant to pretty much do all the work for him. it’s just required for his community service and it also provides good press to see him help lead future pioneers.

in short, an emotionally unavailable addictive asshole millionaire who is too smart for his own good and has given up trying to be a decent human being. what’s the point ? life sucks and then you fucking die. ask toby.
