Christmas, One Year Later
“Momma, d’you think Stiles will like my present?” Henry asked, practically bouncing off the walls with excitement as he helped me gather up the gifts by the front door. I chuckled while nodding, ruffling his soft hair.
“I’m sure he’ll love it, kiddo,” I assured him. “Now, is your bag all packed?”
“Yupp!”
“Alright, why don’t you get your boots and coat on while I grab something to carry these in, hm?” Smiling down at my 6-year-old, I watched him nod definitively before marching to the shoe rack.
I loaded all the gifts that still needed to be transported the best I could into large garbage bags, then went to double check Henry and I’s overnight bags. We were heading over to the Stilinski’s for Christmas, deciding that it would be easier to wake up all together on Christmas morning instead of one of us having to load up and travel on the holiday.
It was a very family-like thing to do, spend the night on Christmas Eve, but I supposed that’s what we had really become over the last year. A family.
“Me and Henry can put the kisses in, right?” Lily asked, practically bouncing with excitement as I moved the hot cookies onto the newspapers we had laid out on the kitchen table.
“Henry and I,” I corrected gently. “And yes, you two can put the kisses on top. Has your daddy finished unwrapping them yet?” I glanced over at Stiles and Henry with a playful smile just in time to catch him red-handed.
“Daddy!” Lily shrieked, seeing him pop the chocolate into his mouth as well. “Those are for Santa’s cookies!”
“I’m sure he won’t mind!” he told her, winking up at me as I laughed. With a tiny huff, Lily marched over and snatched the bowl of Hershey’s Kisses from its place in front of her father, setting it on the other end of the table and out of his reach. “Wow, drastic measures,” he pouted.
“Alright, let’s get these on here before the cookies cool,” I chuckled. Henry ran over and took his place next to Lily, the two of them working with laser-like focus to place each kiss right in the middle of every cookie while Stiles and I watched, dopey grins on both our faces.
After playing a few games with the kids, getting Santa’s cookies and milk set out, and getting them ready for bed, we were finally tucking them in.
“Momma, you’re gonna read the Christmas story, right?” Henry asked, a yawn leaving his little mouth.
“Are you kidding me? It wouldn’t be Christmas Eve without it!” I went to Stiles’ room to dig through my bag, returning with the book and settling in. “’Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring…”
The kids were passed out long before Merry Christmas and a good night was wished to all, Stiles and I creeping out of the room and heading back downstairs. Snuggled up on the couch with an old holiday movie playing in the background, we nibbled on Santa’s cookies, my feet resting his lap while he hands idly rubbed my calves.
“We should probably head to bed soon,” he said, stifling a yawn. “You know they’re gonna be up at the ass crack of dawn.”
“Yeah, probably,” I chuckled, finishing off the milk in Stiles’ glass and earning a playful glare. “I’ll get this cleaned up and you grab the rest of the presents?”
“Sure.” After pecking my lips sweetly, Stiles got up to go locate the hiding spot for ‘Santa’s gifts’ while I carried our glasses to the kitchen, leaving the empty cookie plate for the kids to find in the morning. Once everything was settled and ready for tomorrow, Stiles laced his fingers through mind and led me upstairs to his room.
“I’m really glad we’re celebrating all together,” I murmured into the quiet once we had settled in, my head resting on his chest.
“I am, too,” he replied, squeezing me a little closer. “With you and Henry here, it just feels…complete, you know?” Looking up at him, I smiled gently.
“Yeah, I really do.”
The bed was shaking from little feet excitedly jumping up and down, Lily and Henry practically screaming for Stiles and I to wake up because, “Santa came! Santa came!” Stretching lazily, I smiled and blinked my eyes open only to find Stiles burying his head under his pillow.
“Daddy, come ooooooon!” Lily whined, doing her best to shake his shoulder and only earning some sort of muffled grunt in reply. I winked at the kids before digging my fingers into Stiles’ sides, sending him into a fit of laughter. He did his best to fend me off, but it was no use as he thrashed and wiggled. Straddling his waist with the munchkins on either side of me, huge grins on all of our faces, we offered him an ultimatum.
“Either you get up and go open presents, or we keep tickling you,” I said, raising a brow. Stiles huffed playfully, finally agreeing and making Lily and Henry shriek with excitement and run out of the room, thundering down the steps toward the tree.
Stiles sat up with a groan, placing a gentle kiss to the side of my head. When I moved to get off of him, he grabbed my waist and held me in place, nuzzling my neck as I giggled.
“Come on, they’re dying,” I chuckled.
“Alright, alright,” he sighed. “But you’re definitely paying for that betrayal later.” His voice had taken on a deep, almost-growl, teeth nipping at my ear. I turned to give him the best seductive smile I could muster at this early of an hour.
“Promise?”
“Grampa, I wanna sit by you,” Lily said, laughing when Stiles’ father scooper her into his arms.
“Okay, kiddo. I’ll make sure you get a place next to me for dinner,” he assured her, tiny arms flinging around his neck.
“Henry, come help set the table, please!” I called, checking on the ham to make sure it was done. I could hear Stiles, Scott, and Henry playing with the new remote-control helicopters they’d all gotten for Christmas and smiled to myself.
Laughter and conversation, the smell of home cooked food, and a feeling of family flooded the house. Overwhelmed by it all, I began to tear up as Kira and I worked on putting the finishing touches on dinner. As I went to grab a few more hot pads, I passed by the Sheriff, sniffling on my way. His hand landed on my shoulder, looking me over with concern.
“Y/N, what’s wrong?” he asked quietly. I shook my head in response, laughing a bit as I wiped at my eyes.
“Nothing, it’s just…so great, you know? To be here with all of you and just really feel like a part of the family.”
“You and Henry are family,” he replied, a gentle smile lighting up his face. “My son really loves you. And your son. I’ve seen how you’ve changed him over the last year, Y/N. He’s so much happier. And I love you both, too. You’re the daughter and the grandson I never had.”
“Noah,” I practically sobbed, my head flying to my mouth. He pulled me into a hug, smoothing his hand up and down my back. “Thank you so much.”
“Who’s ready to eat?” Kira announced loudly, prompting me to pull away from our embrace and head for my seat next to Stiles. Everyone stood at their chairs, the table set and looking beautiful, food steaming, and smiles all around. We joined hands as the Sheriff prayed, Stiles squeezing mine after the collective ‘Amen.’
“You alright?” he whispered as we sat, probably noticing the faint red rings around my eyes. I nodded at him, leaning over to gently peck his lips.
“I’m perfect.”
“Dinner was amazing,” Stiles said, his hip bumping mine playfully as we washed the dishes and making me smile. With all the strain my cheeks had been under from that one simple action today, it was amazing they weren’t in pain.
“Well, I can’t take all the credit. I had quite a bit of help.” We fell into an easy silence, working our way through the stacks of plates and platters, listening to the sounds floating from the rest of the house until Stiles finally broke our little bubble.
“It was really great having you and Henry here. Waking up next to you, hearing the kids play, eating meals together.”
“It was pretty nice, huh?” I agreed, shooting him a loving look. Stiles began to adamantly dry the plate he was holding, eyes trained on it in laser-like focus as he shrugged his shoulders.
“It may be nice to be able to do that kind of stuff all the time,” he said, the nonchalance in his voice clearly strained as he bobbed his head around, his face scrunching together in that adorable Stiles way. “I don’t know- I mean…what if you guys just like…stayed?”
I nearly dropped the dish I was holding, eyes going wide as I froze. Stiles continued to dry the same plate despite the fact that it was clearly free of all water.
“What?” I asked dumbly, not quite processing what was happening. He stopped suddenly, putting everything he was holding onto the counter and turning to face me, pulling my body to his. Those chocolate eyes met mine unflinchingly, one hand coming up to rest against my cheek.
“Move in with us.”
Holy shit. Holy shit, holy shit, this is actually happening! Breathe, Y/N. Answer him!
“Yes.”
