A THOUGHT about Unplugged. Yes yes the point was it was about the Tracy in the suit… but the compass stuff was the second message - sometimes reliable old traditional methods work better don’t get too caught up in the new gadgets.

BUT.

All the stuff with the compass still working even when the new tech failed WASN’T TRUE!!! The compass was created to do one thing and it absolutely wasn’t able to - exactly the same device that broke all the electronic tech stuffed up the compass too!!!

Which worked out fine because it happened to dysfunctionally point in the direction they needed to go much as Virgil’s dead wrist comm could have been useful to throw at somebody if something small but solid happened to need yeeting or Thunderbird Two was making a decorative roadblock on a weirdly empty Strand (or is it Whitehall… either way the traffic Parker was worrying about was surprisingly absent from those notoriously busy roads) but if they’d actually just needed to Know Which Way Was North… it was 100% useless as a tool.

I am just suddenly so overcome by the need to point this out to Grandma.

And then maybe he complained about it and the others were all ‘get a grip little bro it can’t have been that bad’ and so he double-dog dared them to see what their own feet tasted like. And thus a useful descriptor for Grandma’s experimental Parmesan and Chocolate Cookies was born?

THUNDERVERSARY REWATCH PARTY - The Schedule

Alright folks, here it is!!

Note: TAG is in order because there is more of an overarching plot through the three series. In order to draw some of the FABulous links between the original and the remake we’ve done our best to arrange the TOS 1965 episodes to match - which means they aren’t in broadcast order but hopefully enjoyable all the same.

Only caveat is if you’ve never seen TOS before we suggest having a watch of the first episode (Trapped in the Sky) as that might help things make sense before we get going.

The Plan

It’s not time-specific - watch any or all of the episodes listed for that week in that week. Check in on the “I watched it” post and then go wild - write, draw, make edits, screen grabs and gifs, remake scenes, role play, go mad with the merch, reblog old stuff, ramble wildly about The Thoughts it inspires - anything goes!!

We’ll have various group activities and challenges running - more on those in another post!

@ this page (@thunderversary-rewatch-party) and use tags #Thunderversary / #Thunderversary-rewatch and #Name-Of-Episode and we’ll reblog everything we see (subject to some ground rules below).

Ground rules:

Rule 1. The “not your thing? scroll on by!” will be heavily emphasised in this event - last thing we want is bad feeling.

There are no right and wrong headcanons and no right or wrong interpretations of the canon either. Even if a take is popular, others are allowed.

We all get passionate and that is amazing but if any posts or replies begin to stray into getting personal / aimed to make people feel bad for their opinions that’s not ok.

Rule 2. While it’s a family show, this is tumblr - it’s up to you what you write / draw etc, but there are a few things we won’t reblog in an effort to keep it safe for everyone:

- NSFW

- Underage / CSA

- Major character death (non-canon… I think it’s too late for Lucy)

- Horror / Gore etc

Rule 3. Please be mindful and tag as appropriate. We’ll endeavour to tag for reblogs but the way tumblr works means it’s really the OP’s responsibility to ensure the right tags are present. That means things like tws for injury / death / romance / mental illness and tagging ships, and it means putting the content under a read more as appropriate.

If you @ us, you’re agreeing that if we think a tag or a read more shield is missing we can message you and you’ll add it to the top post. (If you don’t we may quietly remove our reblog)

Rule 4. Take care of yourselves - we’ve all got lives and won’t have time to read everything in depth / keep track 100% - if we miss something that can’t be on us. If it looks like you aren’t going to enjoy it - please scroll on by.

Hood back: Hates us, obviously. Can’t get that sneering voice out my head.

World Council: Ungrateful Weasels. Shouldn’t be surprised but… hoped after everything we’d be worth more y’know?

Virgil and Gordon covered in bruises - apparently I’m fussing. Allie did amazing but too much stress on young shoulders. Will keep an eye on him.

Something’s up with Kayo too. She’s pleased with Shadow - big relief. One’s flying great post upgrades too.

Usual summary: everything’s a mess but Brains is a genius. Must remind him re jetpack - slightly hairy moment. Not often I’m scared for myself, but I was. I’m fine.

Ring of Fire rewatch part 2

Soooo ... controversially this has never been one of my favourites. I can't quite work out why, I like a good villain, there's plenty going on, there's plenty of Virgil 😁💚 I just don't feel as enthused as I do for some of the others.

On the rewatch I noticed something. One of the big points in this episode is Kayo is related to the Hood, and only Grandma and Jeff know. But ... Colonel Casey appears from the shadows seconds after that conversation. Surely she heard it?

The Mechanic (somehow) watches TAG for the Thunderversary: Ring of Fire Parts 1 + 2

"It has been suggested that I offer my perspective on recent dealings as someone who has worked for The Hood and International Rescue." The Mechanic looks somewhat perplexed by the turn of events. He's not entirely sure why people would want his point of view, especially because it means he has to spend time thinking about The Hood when there are better things to do... but he decides to go along with it anyway.

"I will only comment on what I was involved with. I cannot make assumptions about missions International Rescue completed. That being said, I will try to complete this series in a timely manner."

Ring of Fire Part 1.

"...considering I had a hand in these, I want to apologise." The Mechanic actually looks guilty. He knows that this wasn't an isolated incident of Gordon getting injured on missions where he or The Hood were involved. "I hope it didn't hurt too much."

"I do remember this warehouse. The Hood had me assemble the seaquake machines from here. It was filthy. He..." The Mechanic pauses, a frown slowly creasing his face, "This was his grand re-entry to the world. A demonstration of power and the arsenal he built by his side. I don't know how long I'd been chained to his side at this point - a side-effect of the implant, I presume."

"Ah. This."

The Mechanic almost laughs at the memory of the broadcast. It was meant to make The Hood appear as a terrifying villain to the world, to scare them into submission. He remembers it very differently.

"I was tasked with preparing the broadcast and taking over relevant broadcasting channels. I'd attached an override module to a TV satellite to it went faulty at the last minute. Fortunately, Alan fixed it for me. Well, unfortunately for the world. But it was to my benefit, and I didn't want The Hood to throw a tantrum and have yet another reason to torture me using the implant."

There's a big grin on his face now.

"I was holding his speech up for him. He'd been planning his little speech for weeks. Weeks of preparation and practice... and he still needed cue cards."

Ring of Fire Part 2.

"I was still holding his cue cards."

"I was impressed. Not outwardly, of course." The Hood would have had his head on a silver platter had he known how excited The Mechanic had been at seeing International Rescue gain the upper hand so easily. "I didn't know International Rescue's full capabilities at this point. Finding out that it was the youngest who placed the override on our satellite gave me a very good idea as to what they could do."

It was nearly Kayo today.

If it hadn’t been for Virgil ignoring my instructions we’d have lost her and all those passengers.

Shoulda checked landing gear sooner, diverted for a water landing to neutralise sparks. Not my best moment. Some Commander.

Would Dad have made a better call? He always held Two back until we were sure of the ask. But that’s the second rescue in a row Virgil’s ignored me and been right to do it.

I think Kayo has lost confidence in me. She’s been weird with me ever since we got back.

Next time, I’ll do better.

Hello~ For the drabble word list, may I request 'Quidnunc' for our favourite commander Scott?

*Quidnunc - One who always has to know what is going on (aka Scott Smotherhen Extraordinaire Tracy).

Scott worries. All the time. About all the things. Scott worries about all of them. To the detriment of his own sanity and that of his more level headed brothers, if John may say so himself. It's just a fact of life they learned to accept. Like sunrise, or air. Virgil would pull up some wisdom from psychology books he half pretends to not be reading ever since they got a husk of Scott back from THAT place - and say it's about fear of loosing control. Scott needs to know what's going on with his brothers at all times, because there are so many losses already he couldn't control - Mom, Grandpa, Dad they may never quite know what happened to, people they couldn't save, every one of the brothers out in the field with too many variables out to get them (each and every one of them willingly hoisted on Scott's shoulders and added to his tally of responsibility, despite being out of his control). Yeah... point in question. Gordon would supply a half cooked pun about a helicopter smotherhen to that effect. John knows there's a word for it. Quidsomething... He KNOWS. It's just right NOW he has no time to browse a thesaurus. Because he has a baby Allan tackling a live space nuke and a Scott screaming in his ear and popping up in a shaky hologram every two minutes demanding sitrep on Allie and the Nuke, all the while in a loosing battle with an earthquake hotzone. John can't concentrate and can't quite indulge the Commander's visceral NEED to know - loosing two brothers in one day is just not an option. Or any number of brothers, really. So John makes an executive decision and cuts Scott out of the comms loop. It's just for a moment, till they sort out the nuke (and hopefully Virgil drags Scott kicking and screaming out of a collapsing crater). There'll be hell to pay, John knows. There's ALREADY hell to pay, as Scott actually took the time out of the earthquake aftershocks to honest to God HACK a comm directly to Allie. In a minute the wrath of NOT KNOWING and NOT BEING ABLE TO FIX IT ALL RIGHT THAT INSTANT is gonna descend on John's ginger head. Quidnunc! There, he knew he'd remember the word. Gordon would probably make up another pun around it. Something to do with squid and nuns, no doubt. A shaky hologram pops up against John's override and their Commander is all but spewing thunder and lightning. It means their big brother is terrified out of his wits. Sometimes John forgets his good fortune of at least having access to maximum data and facts about them all on occasions like this. Well, if it gets him two brothers safe and sound back from their respective rescues today, John is more then willing to weather the storm. He shuts Quidnun... Scott's feed off and turns attention back to the nuke code.
