Thunderbirds Rewatch 21st Week Part 2

High Strung

Scott attempts to rescue a mysterious balloonist when his hot air balloon crashes on the top of a mountain.

Brandon is voiced by Tom Rosenthal who is best known for staring in ITV series Plebs. 

This is Lemaire and his Wife last appearance

On Thunderbird 5, John receives some supplies from home, including a burger. He's about to eat it when he gets a alert.

A balloon is getting too close to the Southern Alps (there in New Zealand) and they need to pull up but there not listening and he gets this automatic message instead.

They think that Lemaire is in that balloon and it look like Scott got a headache already, he just dealt with one idiot and he's got to deal with another idiot. He needs a break.

Virgil Jokes that if they had a frequent rescue programme, Lemaire would gold status by now.

Scott decides to go for it and Brains says his RAD catchphrase.

Kayo suddenly appears and is watching old episodes of Thunderbirds, LOL. But anyway she's searching for Lemaire because he usually broadcasts his crazy stunts. So she goes to look into it.

Scott gets to the balloon but he still doesn't get an answer from him. He attaches a cable to it, hoping to drag it clear but the bad weather is causing some major turbulence and nearly hits the mountain.

The weather is pretty bad so Scott has to abandon Thunderbird 1 and use his wing suit.

I love John telling Scott don't do anything stupid and Scott replying to him, define stupid.

He get's close to the Balloon but John tells him he's going to miss the capsule but Scott tells him, he's not aiming for the capsule and grabs the rope.

Meanwhile Kayo arrives at Lemaire's super yacht and wonders, if he's on his balloon, who's on his yacht. A steward complains about her leaving her plane there and she sarcastically tells him, what you going to do, give me a ticket.

She searches the boat and hears mumbles from a room, she goes in and Lemaire is in there covered in bandages. Apparently he was on rollerblading on his yacht, in a storm.

Kayo contacts Scott immediately, telling him that Lemaire is not in there and could possibly be a trap. But Scott tells her he doesn't have a choice and goes in.

He gets in the capsule but first he hides and John asks him if it's pirates or ballroom rustlers and Scott tells him it's worse than that, It's a Teenager!!!! LOL.

His name is Brandon Berrenger, he works for Lemaire. He doesn't realise he's in danger and needs rescuing and gets excited in meeting Scott and wants to film him, which Scot is very hesitant.

Scott asks him what he was doing in this balloon and Brandon tells him that Lemaire wanted hi balloon inflated so everyone would think he be out doing his thing because he's hurt but Brandon thought he would go joy riding in it instead.

Scott asks why didn't he answer there calls but Brandon said he switched it broadcast only because too many people were trying to contact him.

Scott lands the capsule but it's right on the edge.

Scott contacts Virgil to come help him. Poor Scott looks like he's had enough already.

Brandon excitedly says he and Scott are both thrill junkies and Virgil jokes says he's right your like 2 peas in a pod. Scott then says this pea wants out of this pod and off this mountain, lol.

Virgil is on his way but then Brains interrupts his launch for RAD, not his catchphrase but his new invention A Rapid All-Terrain Descender.

Then Virgil continues with his launch and Brains and Max run out of the way.

Back in capsule, Scott tells Brandon that taking this balloon out was a bad idea and Brandon asks him if he did anything crazy like this when he was his age, Scott stumble his words and said maybe, which means yes he did.

So who knows what Scott got into before his Father disappeared. So his life changed overnight from being a teenage thrill junkie, but then had to step up and become head of the family, head of International Rescue and look after his brothers.

Then the capsule starts to move and fall of the cliff, so Scott and Brandon had to jump onto the side of the cliff.

Virgil arrives but can't get to them so he lowers the Rad but due to the strong winds it ends up on the other side. So they have to get to it themselves.

They start climbing the mountain, Brandon starts suffer from Hypothermia and Scott tells him not to fall asleep. Then the mountain becomes unstable and Scott has to use a zip line to get to the other side.

They get to the RAD and Brains tells Scott to activate it, say deploy which he does and Brains is a bit late telling him to step back.

Brains has to tall Scott how to work it but then more snow falls from the mountain so Scott has to learn while on the job.

It's pretty comedic moment seeing this thing rolling down the mountain. Also Brandon feeling a bit sick so Scott tells him start filming again for his Vlog.

Thunderbird 2 carrying Thunderbird 1 is so cool.

They are nearly at base camp but the RAD is going too fast and Scott doesn't know where the breaks are, so Scott has to go outside and use his wingsuit and rocket to slow it down.

It stops when they reach base camp.

Brandon realises that all this hardware was for him and is sorry for borrowing Lemaire's Balloon. Then Kayo brings up Lemaire, his Wife is talking for him and tells Brandon he's promoted to chief test pilot.

Lol Scott's not happy and walks off back to TB1.

Brandon suggests they all should go back to Lemaire's Yacht to celebrate. Virgil jokes that they should invite Brandon over which Kayo says that would drive Scott up the wall, and Virgil says exactly. and even asks Brandon if he wants to ride with him.

And they all fly off.

Lol Jack Whitehall actually gets credit for Lemaire for just mumbling.

 The Cham Cham

When aircraft are shot down during live broadcasts of the same tune, International Rescue suspects foul play. Tin-Tin and Lady Penelope (posing as a singer) find that the band's manager is encoding information about the planes.

The episode starts off at a US air fore base, A plane takes off, they are on a secret mission to deliver a package and listening to some music

On Tracy Island, they are listening to the same music. Scott and Jeff are looking a map, why?? no idea!!

Why is Gordon in Tin Tin's bedroom??? I assume it's her bedroom!!! I hope Alan doesn't get jealous

And then Virgil appears and they are doing some hand signals!!!!

Alan and John are both on Thunderbird 5, I assume there swapping, don't know which way though.

They hear a distress call from the US air force plane, they are under attack. They send some plane out to help but they go down. Apparently this is the 3rd time it's happened.

Back on Tracy Island, Virgil playing the piano, Scott is just standing there. Alan is back home from TB5 so probably he just swapped with John, Tin Tin playing cards. No Gordon, probably still sitting in Tin Tin's bedroom.

Alan starts to think that the music being played on the radio is connected to the transport planes being taken down. The music has been aired live and now they are at some hotel in the Alps. So Jeff says they should investigate the hotel and of course he knows who to send.

Lady Penelope of course and she sitting in her garden. Parker brings her tea. He asks her if he could have the afternoon off he wants to go on a date with the cook. She lets him and he goes to change.

She then gets a call from Jeff from her tea pot and she is surprised to hear it's Jeff, but who else could it have been??? Does she get other calls from people from this teapot too!!!!

Jeff tells Penny her new assignment and poor Parker's afternoon off is cancelled.

Parker is at some agency, trying to get Penny (undercover as this singer called Wanda Lamour) to this hotel but this agent isn't sure because he's never heard of her but Parker has this connection!!! so he agrees to send her there. Also Penelope is wearing a brown wig.

On Tracy Island, Tin Tin leaves in plane, Alan sees her off.

Penny contacts Jeff, Gordon is back and standing next to him. She asks Jeff if there is any new developments, he says not yet but Brains is working on these recordings.

Then it cuts to Brains and Alan, (Alan is moving around a lot today). Brains thinks Alan could be right about the connection between the music and the planes being taken down. There might some strange code and hopefully try to decode it.

At the Alps, Penelope and Tin Tin are in a Cable Car heading towards the hotel. Lady Penelope is a bit nervous because Parker isn't with her and they couldn't travel by car because it takes too long and bit dangerous. She hopes she doesn't get asked to sing and if they did she'll pretend to have throat trouble.

They are now at the hotel, they are listening to this band the Cass Carnaby Five playing the music. They introduce Wanda Lamour (Penny) but she can't sing tonight due to a throat infection.

In the dressing room Tin Tin is talking to Cass Carnaby and his manager Olsen. Tin Tin tells him she loves that song but wondered if he thought about changing it because it must get boring and he says it was up to there manager, who leaves. so they talk about him.

Olsen is now having a Dance with Penny disguised as Wanda and he does question her as he's never heard of her before, she even asks him questions but then he leaves.

Parker then appears, I thought he was undercover as a bartender at first because he's behind the bar but he got a job as a part time bouncer. Penelope asks for his lovely tea.

She has her tea in her room, Tin Tin and Parker are with her. Parker tells her that he heard Olsen say he's expecting a message in the morning and he's staying in a chalet at the other side of the mountain. Penny think they should look into it at once because she thinks Olsen will discover she's a fake and Tin Tin gets her briefcase out and contacts Jeff.

Back on Tracy Island Jeff is with Brains in his Laboratory who still working on this song and Alan contacts them telling Jeff that Tin Tin wants to talk with him. Tin Tin tells him that they think Olsen has something to do with it but don't know if he's working alone or other people are involved.

The next day, Tin Tin and Penny go skiing. They going to spy on Olsen at his chalet.

They arrive at the chalet and see Olsen at a strange computer so Tin Tin takes photos or video from her ski stick and see him getting a message that a another attack is going to happen, so they leave to warn Jeff but Olsen has noticed tracks that were left behind by them and even uses his telescope to spot them. So they've been rumbled.

He speaks to the head waiter on the phone and the waiter will deal with them and Parker hears him.

Back to Tin Tin and Penelope they switch on there sky thrusts, no idea why they have those. Probably to get back to the hotel faster so there not missed maybe.

Then the waiter turns up in his car and has a gun. He's about to shoot them them when Parker stops him and they have a scuffle and Tin Tin and Penny just stand there and watch.

Then Parker and the waiter are rolling down in a snow ball (like the RAD in High Strung).

It comes to a stop and Parker tells them that they've found out about them and wants them dead. They say they have to hide the unconscious waiter in the broom cupboard.

Back on Tracy Island and Grandma appears and she can't get Alan and Brains to eat something because there too busy working on decoding this music. Then Penny contacts them with there update and shows them footage of the secret message and Brains finds out they are using a new computer The Cham Cham which receives and sends coded messages ect. So Brains can now break this code in this music.

Jeff tells Scott to get him Washington DC , so is Scott, Jeff's secretary now??

The air force gets the message but the commander ignores it and goes ahead with the flight anyway.

Back on Tracy Island Jeff tells Alan about the situation with Washington DC and the idiot commander who's ignoring them but Alan tells him that Brains has decoded the music and can change it so hopefully Penny and Tin Tin can save the plane.

Back at the hotel Olsen tells Cass to play there music but it has a few changes, Cass isn't sure about it but Olsen tells him to do it anyway. he leaves and Tin Tin appears and pleads with him to play there version of the song but he's not convinced due to his contract with Olsen.

On Tracy Island, Scott takes off in TB1, don't know where he's going but Jeff says it's a gamble. They are ready to listen to the broadcast and hoping they play there altered version of it.

At the hotel they play the music, not sure what version but it then cuts to some bad guys receiving this code and there planes are about to take off but then Penelope comes on and sings, so they are playing there altered version of the song and the code changes for the bad guys. so they send there planes out to that location. Tin Tin and Parker notice Olsen is watching.

Jeff sends Virgil and Alan (sadly no Gordon) to the hotel because Tin Tin and Penny could be in danger.

Scott arrives at the air force base and tells them through a megaphone that they stopped the bad guys attacking the plane but they've been directed to the base instead and commander hopes to shoot them down. he even says so International Rescue have done it again, so is he jealous of them??

Lady Penelope, Tin Tin and Parker leave in a cable car, they had to leave quickly and couldn't pay there hotel bill. Olsen is as the cable car controls and shuts it off, so maybe leaving in a cable car wasn't a good idea.

Penny tells Parker to press the alarm, which he does and it wakes up Cass but then Olsen cuts a cable. Penny tells Jeff and TB2 is only 2 minutes away. Olsen trying to cut another cable when Cass walks in and they have a scuffle and the cable breaks anyway. The cable car starts to move out of control.

They get close to the cable car and Virgil tells Alan to fire the magnet grabs but they don't work so they want Parker to do something for them.

So Parker has to get on top of the moving cable car and grab the cables they lower to him but at first he can't reach them so Penny gives him a umbrella to reach them. Parker gets them and connects them to the cable car.

There is a small dramatic moment when Alan thinks that Parker won't make it but he does and Virgil tells Alan to fire the retros and it stops and Parker slips off.

Penny does wonder where he is and if he's ok

Parker is the new Mary Poppins.

Back at the hotel, Cass is playing the piano and!! and!! and!! we have a Pen & Paint moment!! Lady Penelope and Virgil are sitting together alone!! (well not quite as Cass is there too but still).

Cass does ask where Tin Tin is but Penny tells him she went outside with Alan which seems to disappoint Cass and then we see Alan and Tin Tin together. Alan does ask her about leaving behind Cass but she says it's nice to get back home.

it looks like Alan slightly touches her arm there.

Thunderbirds Rewatch 21st Week Part 1

Impact

A comet brought into the Earth's orbit takes a wrong turn and International Rescue must intervene to stop it from colliding with the planet.

Hypno-Potamus returns in this episode, oops!! wrong show, I meant Langstrom Fischler. Also Captain Ridley O'Bannon also returns and sadly this is her final appearance.

The episode starts of on Thunderbird 5 John and Ridley are playing a ball game and hmm a bit jealous are you EOS.

Pretty cool that John has his own ball game room.

EOS interrupts them and tells John that there is a problem and Ridley leaves.

That Smile

Eos tells him that there is a comet has changed direction and is now heading for earth and John notices something on the comet too.

John contacts Tracy Island, love that Scott just moves Alan's legs out of the way so he could sit down.

John lets them know about the comet and shows them the device on it and it belongs to Langstrom Fischler and Scott doesn't look happy.

This is the first time we see Virgil going into space. He even complains that he goes down a tube backwards and Alan gets a comfy chair.

Scott and Brains are trying to track down Fischler but he changes addresses a lot possibly because he doesn't want to get sued. Love Scott's comet saying he changes addresses more than Scott changes his socks, lol.

They find him and Scott asks him, that didn't the GDF tear up him space permit, which we have some continuity from the episode Skyhook. But Fischler has a loophole and tells him he can do something remotely instead, by sticking a rocket on a comet.

He apparently wants to mine it for frozen water. Brains tells him that the Comet is going to hit earth but Fischler tells him it won't and he's about to change it's trajectory.

He does that and it fails.

Then he starts rambling making up words. Alan and Virgil who are also listing. Alan asks Virgil did he just make that up and Virgil tells him yes he did. Love Virgil's expression here.

Fischler thinks it won't do any harm when it hits as it's a little ball of water and rock but Brains tells him that it's a big ball of water and rock and will cause massive destruction when it hits. Fischler tells him that he will get back to him.

Virgil decides to blow up the comet by drilling it down to it's core and put explosives down there.

Alan lands TB3 on the comet and starts drilling but then Fischler manages to switch on the rocket and Alan loses his grip on it and TB3 gets hit by debris.

Scott asks them if they are ok, even though it takes them a moment to reply, Virgil tells him thanks to Alan, they are ok.

Scott is really pistoff with Fischler now.

Virgil even says that they could've finished the job by now if he hadn't butted in.

Scott contacts Fischler again asking what has he done but Fischer tells him that he gave a comet a push and thinks it will bounce of the atmosphere and fly out into space but Brains tells him it will still enter Earth's atmosphere and crash into Global One on it's way

Alan suggests that they leave the comet and move Global One out of the way but Scott tells them it's best to blow up the comet and Fischler's rocket

John says he will break the news to Global One and he contacts Ridley to let them know that they are in danger.

Ridley evacuates her crew from Global One but she stayed behind because she wants John to help move Global One out of the way. But John tells her that he's not a tug boat, he helps rescue people and she tells him, i'm people, rescue me.

I do find her a bit selfish here, the station can be rebuilt.

John takes Thunderbird 5 to danger zone, Brains asks what John is doing, John says he's going to save Ridleys life but brains is not happy about it and even Scott tells him, If things don't go your way, they could lose Global One, Thunderbird 5 and you. but John tells he would love to hear a better plan and swipes them away.

Brains even says to Scott he never seen John behave so Impersonally.

Fischler appears again has some stupid idea and then Scott hangs up on him. Brains tells him they got to do something about him but Scott tells him, he has sent Kayo to deal with him.

Back with Fischler, he's annoyed that IR hang up on him, Kayo arrives but Fischler thinks it's his food being delivered and even asks his assistant Kinnear (gets his name wrong) to pay for it. But Kayo knows his name.

Kayo uses her key card on his electronics and casually walks out and everything is shut down, apparently it was a disrupter virus. And that was her only appearance in this episode.

Alan and Virgil get back to drilling into the comet and John arrives at Global One.

John tells Ridley he wants to save her first because he may not have enough time to pull Global One out of the way but she tells him, save me, save my station, package deal. She even says to him would you give up Thunderbird 5 if boot was on the other foot. So he reluctantly agrees.

So he brings down the mooring claw and connects it to Global One and starts to move it out the way.

Back on the comet, they decide to ram the drill in the comet, so they can get it in deeper, they even put there safety helmets on.

Brains tells John that he needs to go faster and John tells him he's giving her all I got. Then Ridley suggests she will switch on the manual controls activating the thrusters, which are the other side of Global One. So she goes for it and travels along Global One using it's hand rails and even misses a handrail but she makes it and switches the thrusters on.

EOS tells John that the comet's debris is about to hit. The debris does hit the station causing some minor damage and Ridley gets stuck so John has to leave TB5 to save her.

Another wave of debris hits even damaging John's rocket suit but hey managed to get back to the other side ok and the station manages to miss the comet. John even notices Thunderbird 3 sticking out of the comet and it's just hit the upper atmosphere.

Scott tells Alan and Virgil to disengage as the comet is about start burning up but Alan and Virgil have only just reached the centre of the comet and Virgil sends the explosive down it.

They are about to leave but the grappling arms won't retract.

Scott is worried about them and thinks he's going to lose 2 brothers, you can even hear the emotion his voice.

Luckily Thunderbird 3 gets free, just in time and Virgil blows the comet up, love their fist pump and Scott looks so relieved

John tells Ridley, if she's up for another game of handball,

I think this episode could of been a 2 parter but it's still a great episode. There were a lot of emotions the boys were going through, especially Scott.

Part 2 will be tomorrow.

Thoughts on the episode:

If we get no John for a third episode in a row, I will riot!

Why is this guy so against checking the bridge for damage!? It's about to carry a very important and very heavy rocket in a few hours? ALL THE MORE REASON TO CHECK THAT IT'S STRUCTURALLY SOUND, MY DUDE!!! They'll be WAY more on your ass if the whole thing collapses, I can tell you!

Wife and kids, you say? I do believe that this man will need rescuing soon...

"Kiddo" Gordon, you are the second youngest, you can't be going round calling people 'kiddo' when you are one of the kiddos

Saying that though, I always 100% approve of Alan Bullying: carry on, fellas! 😉👍

Good news, I did not in fact have to riot! I knew I could count on you, Brains!

Lowkey why did it look like John was hiding behind that chair. Like the call came through and he got spooked - dude this is your entire job. He crept up to answer that so cautiously 😭

John, I'm gonna throttle you, why would you give out your FULL name and then be like, "is that you, Brains?" WELL IF IT WASN'T YOU'D BE SO COOKED RIGHT NOW!!!

"We'll need Thunderbirds 1 & 4" ok, but for real, when have we ever actually needed Thunderbird 1 tho? (no offence, Scott)

When the guy finally starts trying to call International Rescue and isn't getting through, I like to think John is just stood there being petty and refusing to pick up because Brains told him what a bitch the guy was being earlier.

Virgil really just dumped pod 4 down from a half mile up in the air 😭 dude, Gordon can't do shit if he's concussed, please! 😭

"Oh, Brains, you old son-of-a-gun!" Sdhklhkjld I'm losing it!!! What kind of greeting is that!?!? 💀

I don't know how difficult they are to do . . . but you can change the number of pieces to make it more challenging, and choose whether the individual pieces are always in the right orientation, or have them able to be rotated.

Thoughts on the episode:

Stranger Danger only applies to children, actually. He's a white, adult male, what could possibly- oh wait, oh fuck, what is that?

Honestly, I've never seen a more evil-looking hitchhiker in my life. You would not catch me dead stopping for that guy!

Should've taken the stairs - you'd hope that lifts would be quicker in 2065...

One of these days a disaster will happen someplace where there isn't a conveniently open space for Thunderbird 1 to land and then what will he do?

This seems too easy; something is going to go wrong...

Huh, never mind then, I guess.
