His ears were still ringing from the woman on the other line who either did not know how to lower her voice or didn't care to and he'd hardly had a chance to get a word in edgewise before she abruptly hung up.

[ D ] Does your muse drive ? How are they behind the wheel ?

⚖️  Dolores loves to drive! She doesn’t get to do it as often now that she lives in New York, but she grew up around cars and spent a significant chunk of her teenage years as essentially an unlicensed mechanic in her dad’s garage. On the rare occasion she takes a day off, she’ll sometimes hop in her car and just start driving to nowhere in particular until she finds somewhere interesting to stop like a roadside attraction or a landmark with a weird name.

Dolores is usually a very safe driver behind the wheel that uses her turn signal appropriately and drives the speed limit, but should a situation arise she’s also been known to burn some serious rubber. Her hometown has the 7th highest rate of car thefts in America and Ms. Durán’s been on more than her fair share of joy rides.

[ G ] What is the best gift your muse has ever received ?

⚖️  Her 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air. When Dolores turned 16, her dad surprised her with a broken down car that he had gotten on the cheap from a junkyard that was going to scrap it. Restoring it became a passion project for them both and while Dolores has complicated feelings about her family, this classic car still means the world to her and has been the one reliable constant in her life.

[ H ] What is your muse's home like ? Has it always been like that ?

⚖️  Dolores had an actual apartment at one point, but in the current version of events it got destroyed when one Gozer the Gozerian rained marshmallowy armageddon down on Manhattan, so now she lives on the second floor of her office building (formerly known as the “All Smiles Dentistry”) in Hell’s Kitchen. 

The office itself features a few art deco design elements, but was last renovated in the 50's which lends a kind of mid-century charm to an otherwise absolutely busted looking fixer-upper. Having had a sordid history as the death site of a dentist that was a little too passionate about his work, it fell into disrepair until Dolores came along.

Most of Dolores' decor is made up of either items she was able to salvage from her old place or whatever the she was able to thrift to fill her needs, so there's an interesting mishmash of items from the 60s to the 80s. About half of her things are still packed away in boxes in case disaster strikes and she has to move again.

[ I ] What inspires your muse ?

⚖️  She’s always had a strong personal drive, but what ultimately motivates Dolores is a genuine desire to help. She doesn’t like living in a world where there’s a clear double standard in how wealthy yuppy jerks are treated vs the poor and marginalized who can’t just skate through life on a trust fund and she strives to do something about it. For every case Dolores successfully wins, that’s one less person getting swallowed up by a flawed and corrupt system and that’s more than enough for her to keep going.

[ J ] Does your muse like to joke ? What is their sense of humor ?

⚖️  Dolores acts like she’s above it all because she wants to be taken seriously, but she's a sardonic and opinionated lady. She can’t help the occasional snarky comment or dry witticism and it’s gotten her in trouble with the court more than once. For example:

JUDGE: And Ms. Durán? Next time you’re in my courtroom, you will dress in the appropriate attire, meaning you will not wear pants. Understood? ATTORNEY: Yes, your honor– but don’t you think it’d be a little unprofessional if I came to court in my underwear? JUDGE: … I’m holding you in contempt.

dad catches her looking at him, and waves at her. she can't tell if that's just him being dad, or permission granted to follow marty. there's a long pause before she traipses after him all the same, deciding to take her chances. " ...where are we going? "

Irene gently smacks her hand against Marty’s arm. It’s playful, paired with a knowing smile. “Hey man, better watch what you say. There’s some old broads ‘round here that’d get onto you about sayin’ stuff like that. They’d pinch your ear and march you over to the nearest sink and wash your mouth out with soap.”

She snickers, shoving a cigarette between her teeth. It’s clear she’s speaking from experience, but since when did a little trouble ever stop her? No, she was at the pinnacle of youth, she’s supposed to be getting into all sorts of things! It’s a learning experience, builds character. At least that’s what she thinks. She lights up, inhales, exhales. It’s all done politely away from Marty, her new pal.

Sure, he said the strangest things, but Irene loved it. It broke up the monotony of every day life, gave her more things to think about, inspired her for her music. “They’d be losin’ their minds over me right now. Callin’ me some sorta troublemaker, but that’s why people like me. I’m a lovable rascal—say, what’s that word you used the other day? Was it somethin’ like bummer? Yeah, man, I’d call this a real bummer.”

A concert that Irene had been excited for had been cancelled due to inclement weather. And yet here they were, standing together under her flat’s doorway in an attempt to keep dry. She refused to smoke inside, even at times like this. She wouldn’t melt, anyways. She was more spice than sugar. “You know what? I got records and checkers and probably something good in the fridge if you’re hungry. You wanna play checkers, Marty? I got cards, too. Maybe we’ll make up a new game. I bet you got new games in that head of yours.”

A teasing elbow is sent his way amid giggles before she finishes off her cigarette.

I — WHAT INSPIRES YOUR MUSE?

I think a fairer questions is what doesn't inspire Doc? Doc is so open-minded, richly imaginative, and views the world in such a way that he could draw inspiration from the smallest, most mundane thing. He takes inspiration from nature, from books, from sci-fi, from the work of those who have come before him, sometimes even from music.

I think challenge also inspires Doc. Doc is a man who pushes boundaries and does not stop just because things are difficult or his ideas are 'out there.' As much as there's a want to make things for others and to improve the quality of life for humanity as a whole, there's also a self-fulfilment factor to it and the ability to say I did that against all the voices so certain (his own internal self-doubt is one of those voices) he couldn't plays just as important a role.

The biggest thing I think that Doc finds inspiration from is humanity. People doing as they do, seeing people run into problems and roadblocks that make him stop and think well what if this was possible? What if we could make our lives easier? (Look at all the automated quality of life gadgets he invented.) What if we're just thinking about it the wrong way and there really is a solution for this? If we take the current limitations of humanity and attempt to destroy them, what could we possibly achieve?

Well, time-travel for one.

L — WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DOES YOUR MUSE LISTEN TO?

Doc's definitely a jazz guy, no question. With it being one of the big sounds of his childhood, his love of it stuck with him throughout the years. He's also a fan of rock and roll—both the stuff that was popular in the '60s and (thanks to Marty) the harder rock of the '80s. He still prefers the former to the latter, however.

You might also catch Doc listening to R&B, folk rock, even some of the electronic dance songs that were popular in the '80s. Some of OMD's music, for example, would be on that list.

Before the mansion burned down, Doc had quite the collection of records. Unfortunately, almost all of them were lost save for a small handful.

As they move into the '90s, I could see Doc getting into electro swing music for how fun and upbeat it is while also being reminiscent of the older stuff he still enjoys.

The second that the wooden door to the firehouse shuts behind a familiar head of red hair, Dolores drops the forced polite smile she’s been fighting to maintain for the last several minutes of her life. Typically she makes it through these kinds of unpleasant encounters emotionally unaffected, but this was the third time in the last month that Peck has come in to make a scene and she’s beyond tired of it. “Because there’s nothing to bargain with, kid.” She responds acidly as she crumples the letter in her hands into a ball, “He’s just throwing his weight around and mad that we aren’t intimidated by it.” Tossing the offending piece of paper into a nearby trashcan, Dolores then turns to Marty with her hands on her hips. “A cease and desist isn’t a hard and fast rule like a warrant– it’s there to provide a paper trail for the prosecution to show the court that they did their due diligence in telling us to knock it off if we’re doing something illegal.” She pushes her glasses up and pinches the bridge of her nose between her fingers in an attempt to alleviate her slowly building headache, “But since there isn’t exactly a whole lot of legal precedent for ghostbusting, there’s nothing illegal to cease and desist about. We don’t have to comply–”  There’s a moment where Dolores pauses and stares at the little waste basket by Janine’s desk where the letter now rests, abandoned amid the junk food wrappers and shredded paper. She then suddenly and without warning walks over and fishes it back out.

He remembers being young and gauging for a rampant adventure he hadn’t even been ready for, but that’s the thrill of it, and the thrill of consequence. To turn the kid away now would be a slight on not just himself, but the aspiration for adventure. Plus, this was Doc Brown’s kid, and any friend of his, is a friend of Ford’s.

"Aw, they weren't nothin' but trouble," Tony mumbles sheepishly, scuffing the ground with her shoe. She was embarrassed that the group had appeared while Marty was around, bringing up a past that she'd, quite frankly, like to forget.

"Let's get outta here, I don't want 'em comin' back to bother us," she continues, nodding to the right. She's clearly downtrodden, not even able to look him in the eye. "I never should've brought ya this way. Those guys are like vultures, they swarm ya." Hands are shoved in pockets as the pair start to move again.
