finishing high school is a bittersweet feeling.

realising that you’ll never be in the same school as all your friends anymore, that you won’t be seeing them five times a week when everyone moves on with their lives attending different colleges. safe to say it isn’t the happiest day in your eyes.

halls filled with students crying and hugging, some with markers in their hands as they write their goodbye messages on each other's t-shirts, their own covered in colourful messages.

everyone roaming the buildings one last time as a high school student before they leave to officially enter their adult stages. thankfully exams were over so the weight on your shoulders had lifted slightly, making sure to cherish the last few moments you had in this stage of life.

“guess what? i heard that kei is going to give hana his second button,” your friend gossiped, filling the whole group with gasps.

“poor guy, she’s definitely going to reject him.”

every year there would always be a select group of boys handing their crushes the second button of their uniform, a common confession practice at the end of high school year. there’s something sweet about it, giving the person you like the button closest to your heart instead of outright saying it.

it feels youthful, too shy to speak but brave enough to do something so bold in front of the whole school.

so after witnessing keis rejection live, your friends decided to go out to eat not being able to handle the second-hand embarrassment from their classmate. you didn’t make it too far out the school gates before someone called your name.

“yn!”

turning around to see someone running towards you, nishimura riki. everyone knew of riki for his dance skills always shown through the multiple stages and events he holds yearly, and maybe you’d spoken to him a few times but nothing enough to be considered friends.

you can hear your friends mumbling behind you as you walk towards him meeting him halfway, “hi riki, what’s up?”

there’s no denying riki is cute. from the mole adorning his face and his pouty lips, anyone could see he was blessed with looks alongside talent.

“erm—“ you could see him nervously fiddling as he reached for something from his pocket, “i just wanted to give you this.”

in his hands was a single gold button engraved with your school's cherry blossom design. you look up, scanning his uniform to see all his buttons intact except one.

the empty space where his second button once was stared back at you, as riki was starting to feel his adrenaline wear down and embarrassment start to crawl up his body when he noticed your friends a few feet away giggling and talking amongst themselves.

“you don’t have to take it. actually, this is stupid. i’m—“

before he could finish his sentence, you grabbed the button before his hands could close around it, clasping your own around the metal and pulling it closer to your own heart, “thank you riki, i'll text you?”

under different circumstances, you would’ve been worried how red the boy had gotten in the face as he aggressively nodded his head before running back the way he came. 

maybe this next step is sweeter than expected.

with each step towards the dreaded door, the weight of your foot felt heavier as if the resistance could change your fate. i’m so screwed. you took a deep breath, bracing yourself for the hellfire you’re about to face, before following your manager into the room.

your eyes flickered throughout the room to familiarize yourself with each new face, locking at him. a hint of confusion filled his face before immediately returning to his usual smile.

“you’re here,” the director smiled, “great, let’s start now.”

worries buzzed through your mind, and his presence only confirmed it. perhaps it was foolish to assume an idol could have the same freedom as a regular girl.

“i’m sure you’re both wondering what this meeting is for. as you may know, sunghoon and wonyoung have been the mcs for music bank this past year,” the director paused waiting for confirmation, “well, music bank has decided to replace them with the two of you. so, you will work alongside one another for the indefinite future.”

disbelief flooded the two faces, mixing with differing emotions. a dream for you, yet a nightmare for jungwon. and at that moment, jungwon wished he really was fired instead.

“i believe the two of you will be professional and deliver an excellent performance. so, i’ll leave you two to get to know each other.”

everybody knew sunghoon was a jealous person, it was just who he was. so it wasn’t unusual when he started to act out when he thought the server at the restaurant was a little too friendly with you.

now if you asked sunghon why he was walking around your shared apartment sulking with a pout etched on his face, he’d say it's because you were too nice to the waiter. leaving you to now be given the silent treatment by your boyfriend because the ‘thank you’ you gave at the end of the night was too enthusiastic for his liking.

“are you really going to ignore me over something stupid?” you asked, watching him completely ignore your existence as he sat on the couch, “okay, fine.”

if he wanted to get prissy so be it. two can play this game.

as much as sunghoon was jealous, he was also clingy. no more than an hour into his temper tantrum he was quickly over it, walking towards your bedroom to look for you.

he finds you on the bed with your laptop perched open on your lap, “babe, want to watch a movie?”

his response was met with silence. your fingers continued to type without sparing him a glance, “babe?”

you close your laptop and stand up making sunghoon think you’d follow, hearing your footsteps behind him as he goes into the living room. it takes him a minute to process that he is in fact alone as he hears shuffling in the kitchen.

“are you bringing snacks?” he walked towards you, watching you finish drinking your water before placing the empty cup in the sink and walking past him into the bedroom again. he watched your retreating figure with confusion, following you like a lost puppy.

you were back in bed but on your phone this time. he stood at the end of the bed dumbfounded about how you were even able to ignore your very handsome, sexy, tall, funny boyfriend ( his words ).

“why are you ignoring me?” he whined, elongating the end of his words as he slowly crawled up beside you, “i should be the one ignoring you.”

sunghoon quickly shuts his mouth when he catches you sending him a glare before focusing your attention back on your phone. he huffed thinking of other ways he could get you to give him, settling on draping himself over you forcibly making you give him attention.

“look at me,” he could hear you groaning annoyed under him at his behaviour but that didn’t stop him, “i'm sorry. i was jealous and overreacted but now you’re overreacting and that’s my thing!” he pouted, trying to give you his best puppy eyes like jake taught him.

he could see your resolve slowly melt as you tried to fight back a smile, “you were overreacting.” you agreed, seeing his face light up when you finally spoke to him.

“i know but i’m over it now, i swear! just pay attention to me.”

“okay you big baby,” you laughed, letting him cuddle into you, “but do you promise not to do it again?”

he looked up at you like you were crazy, “you know you’re asking too much of me.”

“why did i even try.”

i started reading chapter 21 and got so confused cuz i forgot that bugsy is in florida. my memory just sucks :(( so i went back and read chapter 20 again and yass the airport stuff was so great
