Hello! I was wondering if you have any Lance and Shiro headcannons? I was rewatching Voltron and I think their friendship is really growing on me I find them very underrated haha
i agree!! their dynamic is something i’d definitely like to explore more in the fics i’ll write in the future, so here’s a start! 🤍💫✨
lance had a poster of shiro back at home. on his list of things to do after he gets back to earth, saying fuck you to rachel for teasing him about his dream to be on takashi shirogane's team is a close five
shiro: good job lance! you did really well out there
lance: don't i always ;-)
hunk, once shiro walks away: oh man, you're so gonna scream into your pillow about this later
pidge: which one of your childhood celebrity crushes is next? i bet joe jonas is coming up here just to compliment your singing
lance: not funny guys i literally cannot breathe
shiro really wants to help him through his bi crisis, but he doesn't know how to approach the topic... which is why he just keeps mentioning the fact that he's gay in casual conversations whenever he can. sometimes misunderstandings occur
lance, after shiro confides in him about missing adam: i totally get what you mean, man. i miss my wife and kids all the time
shiro: aren't you seventeen?
lance: uh yeah? what does that have to do with- ooooooh. oh no. please don't tell me that adam is a real person
shiro: what? of course he is
lance: this is so embarrassing. i thought we were talking about our sims
after he gets over the initial embarrassment, lance totally turns this into an inside joke of sorts. shiro tries hard to keep a straight face, but actually he thinks it's hilarious
lance: so, shiro, from one DILF to another-
hunk, putting his glass down: have you guys tried the thinking before we speak. i thought that the thinking before we speak was lovely
once they do have a talk about the bi thing, it goes really great!! lance is, however, still super nervous about it at first. especially the part about his crush on keith, because hello! that's shiro's honorary little brother!
shiro: so i was talking to keith earlier
lance: sorry you had to go through that
lance: ...why are you bringing it up though. did he say something about me
shiro: he-
lance: wait no psh don't tell me haha it's not like i care! i don’t.
lance:
lance: but did he
once he gets comfortable enough to talk about it, though, he hardly ever stops
lance, over the comms: your brother looks gnc af
shiro, contemplating whether or not he should ask coran if he can block lance: you're insane
shiro interrupts almost all of lance's attempts to flirt with aliens, but secretly he's amazed because he's not at all good at romance and genuinely thinks some of lance's lines are cool. he writes a few of them down.
lance: shiro's like, my hero
keith, who knows that lance maintains a skincare routine even in space, has a regular sleeping schedule and isn't afraid to put himself out there romantically, while shiro lived off of nothing but pop-rock lollipops for three days until he got enough confidence to propose to adam: why
real shiro is a good leader and therefore actually cares for lance's strategic input & is very grateful for lance's ability to get the team to loosen up a bit at times! his validation means a lot to lance; anybody else ruffling his hair gets snapped at for "ruining his do", but when shiro does it lance almost tears up
shiro: patience yields focus
lance: (chuckles)
shiro, sighing: ok, what's so funny this time
lance: sorry, sorry. it's just that, i can't believe you actually invented your own version of live love laugh. can we hang that in the kitchen. can i embroider it on a pillow. can we-
shiro: (blocks him)
shiro does that old man thing where he mixes up all of his kids' names until he gets to the right one. every time it happens lance acts like its a grave offence and goes "oh ok! i guess that's where we stand huh!" until shiro apologises
they usually hang out by doing calming activities like face masks or watching altean makeover shows, but they do also often train together!
keith: (walks in while lance & shiro are sparring)
lance: shiro you have to let me win.
shiro: i do?
lance: please, c’mon, i need him to think that i'm cool and strong and badass! be a bisexual ally
shiro: i don't know, lance. you already are all of those things, and i'm sure that keith can see that even without me meddling.
lance: do you want to give a long-ass best man speech if i marry him or not
shiro:
shiro: alright so what you're going to do is you're going to aim for my right side, and then i'll-
when they come to earth and visit lance's family, he insists on giving them all a house tour and accidentally forgets about his posters
shiro, looking at the wall above lance's bed: is that... me?
marco: yeah dude! lancey lance here had, like, a colossal crush on you since he was a kid. i'm just surprised it didn't come up
shiro, genuinely touched: i had no idea you felt this way, lance. of course, you're far too young for me, but i still really appreciate it and i think that-
lance: woah woah woah hold the phone!!! i do not have a crush on shiro anymore! you're like my dad now.
marco, snorting: ok, sure
lance, back turned to the door: i'm serious! look, if there's anyone i'm in love with, it's his brother!
shiro:
marco:
lance:
keith:
lance: he's standing at the door, isn't he

Clearing a misunderstanding- Shiro Ship Week Day 5
I think I almost wrote a story like this for the vld poly exchange but it didn't work out. Like I said, haven't watched s8 but I feel like Shiro's parents would always be supportive of him. I mean, they let him go to the Garrison even with his illness without any big issues (that we know of). Home/Family
Shiro pulled into the driveway of his childhood home. He was more than happy to have dinner with his parents, his schedule had been really hectic recently, but the sudden insistence to be there was strange. Back when they lived in Japan, his dad was usually out late working. It got better when his job transferred him to America before it turned into Shiro being out late with his after school activities he took up. But dinner was something they always did, minus the 4 years Shiro went to an out of state college. He had missed the family dinners though. Even after he moved back to start his job, family dinners didn’t happen as often. Then there was his dating life also taking time. He hadn’t introduced his parents to his two boyfriends yet since they were still trying to settle into their relationship first. He hoped that the next time his parents told him to come, they’d be able to come with him.
Again though, the insistence that he be at this particular dinner was not really normal of his parents but he wasn’t going to complain.
He used his key to open the door and called out, “Tadaima,” as he took his shoes off and put them on the rack, pulling his preferred black cat slippers down to slip on. He had hung up his jacket when he realised he hadn’t heard either of his parents call “Okaeri.”
“Kaa-san, Too-san, I’m here.” Silence. Where were they?
Shiro walked into the kitchen, where he saw his parents sitting at the breakfast nook. They had a dinning table just opposite of the short wall that separated the kitchen and small dinning area. They had only really used the breakfast nook for 2 reasons. One, only one person was eating there i.e. him when he was eating before going to elementary and his mother couldn’t join him because she was saying goodbye to his father. The other reason was family meetings. Shiro had sat his parents there to tell them he was pansexual. He was instantly worried that something was wrong.
“Takashi sit down.” His mother said.
His mother only called him by his first name when he was in trouble. Growing up in Japan, there was at least 4 Takashis on their street and 2 more in his class. Shirogane wasn’t a common last name in their neighbourhood so since he was a kid, everyone would call him Shiro, including his parents. When he was in trouble however, that’s when they used his first name. Not even in serious conversations did they use it unless it had to do with him being in trouble. He had no clue what he did but he listened to his mother anyway and sat down.
“Takashi, when you told us about your preference for dating partners, all we wanted was for you to be happy. You are our son and your happiness are all we want.”
Now he was really getting worried. Did they decide that they couldn’t accept their son being pan? He knew it didn’t exactly fit into what they wanted, but he never thought they’d change their mind about it.
“We’re not going to pretend to understand all the sides of being pan, but from what you explained to us, that didn’t give you a free pass to cheat on people.” His father continued.
Huh? What?
“I happened to be passing where you worked when you guys were having an event and saw you kissing a man, I thought we’d soon be introduced to your boyfriend. But your mother saw you at IKEA with another man, being very cosy with him only days later. I know what being in a happy relationship looks like Takashi and I saw it with that person you’d been kissing. I never thought you’d go so low to cheat on a person.”
Shiro blinked at his parents’ stern expressions, slowly understanding what was going on.
“Um, too-san, did the guy you saw me with, look like this?” he asked, taking out his phone and hitting the lock button to show him his lock screen picture; a picture of Matt with his long hair in space buns that their co-worker Allura had done on him.
“Yes, I believe so.”
“And kaa-san, is this the guy you saw me with?” Shiro asked, pressing his finger against the sensor to unlock his phone so his mom could see his home screen, with all apps moved not to block the face of Adam, with flour streaking his face when he suddenly decided he wanted cookies and Matt got too happy with the flour.
“Yes. Takashi, why do you have their pictures on your phone? Are you that smug about what your doing? Have you no shame?”
“Ok, I think I should explain before you cut me out from the family. There’s another part of myself that I discovered not long after I told you I was pan. I hadn’t said anything because I wanted to give you guys time to recover from what I told you. I know you said you were happy for me but what I said was a bit world shaking so I didn’t want to throw this other thing at you.” Shiro took a breath. It was still scary to tell them, even though he was ready. “I’m polyamorous, which means I’m comfortable being in a relationship with more than one person. The people you saw me with are my boyfriends Matt and Adam.”
“Wait, don’t you work with a Matt?” his mom asked.
“Yeah and I went to school with Adam. Around the time I came out to you, I was dating Adam. Have been since my Junior year of college. We moved in together but neither of us were out to our parents so we just played it off as roommates until we were ready. When I was getting ready to tell you, I meet Matt. He had been transferred to our team and we got close. I started to feel bad about having feelings for him when I was dating Adam and when I told him about it, I was expecting Adam to not want me to interact with him. Instead, he went to Matt and told him how I felt and asked if he felt the same, which he did. So then we all talked and agreed that Adam and Matt were ok with me being both of their boyfriends. So long story short, the guys you saw me with are my boyfriends. They’re not dating each other, just me but they are really good friends.”
He stayed silent as he let what he told his parents sink in.
“So you’re not cheating?” his father asked slowly.
“No, I swear, the minute I realised I had feelings for Matt, I told Adam. He’s the one who went to Matt to suggest I date both of them.”
“Why did you feel like you couldn’t tell us this? No doubt it couldn’t be easy to figure out.”
“A lot of people have a skewed perception of what being poly is. I already had to fully explain what being pan was and how it didn’t mean I would cheat. I didn’t want to have to explain that being poly meant I was going to be with more than one person and get you completely confused. I was going to tell you, trust me, just not yet.”
“Oh Shiro,” his mother said, “we didn’t mean to push you before you were ready. Darling, you’re our son and all we want is your happiness. Obviously, you talked to your partners about this and it was something you all agreed on. We can’t be mad at you for that.”
“We’re sorry you keep thinking you can’t tell us things like this.”
Shiro smiled at himself. It felt good to know he could always trust his parents. “it’s not that I don’t trust you. I do. It’s just hard to say these things without worrying it’ll change how you feel.”
“Sweetheart, nothing could change how much we love you. Nothing.” His mother said before clapping her hands. “Now come on, we’re going out for dinner.”
“Going out? You didn’t make dinner?”
“We thought we were going to spend the night yelling at you for cheating. What do you want? Indian?” his father asked, getting up and walking to the front door.
“There is this really good Indian place Adam swears by.”
“Darling, when do you plan on introducing us to your significant others? Should we invite them out with us?”
“Kaa-san, you just pushed me to come out a bit early. Let’s not push that on them. You’ll meet them soon. I have more than enough pictures and stories to show you. Too-san, don’t bother with your wallet. Let this be my treat. Payment for causing you heartache.”
Because if his parents were more worried about him cheating than who he was dating, he knew that had to be the best parents around.

Let’s Talk About Shiro... (SPOILERS)
Contrary to popular belief, it seems, but I really enjoyed the final season of Voltron. Yeah, it didn’t wrap it up as tightly as it could, but that’s always the downside of alot of shows that have a limited episode run and only so much resources to meet the criteria for a complete show. It was really great overall, and it was super cool watching it from its first debut to its final season. It was a wild ride, and I enjoyed every minute of it!
But I can’t help but shake this thought: that Shiro would have no pleasant resolution in terms of his character -- no matter what the writers would do. But regardless of that, I think Shiro really was an amazing character who had a valid ending in the series.
Let me explain...
And WARNING! We’re getting into spoiler territory, my friends. Read at your own risk!
...And crack open a drink. This is a long read.
So technically, according to writers, Shiro was supposed to have died in Season 2, which would allow Keith to properly take the mantle of Voltron’s leader. However, it’s already a controversial idea enough to kill off one of the story’s only LGBTQ characters and villianizing the other few that existed (Zethrid and Enzor. Yeah. They were in lesbians with each other!). It would send a bad message to those of the LGBTQ community -- even though he wasn’t properly noted to be LGBTQ until interviews surfaced and Season 7 (I believe) showed his arc with Adam. Thus, Shiro was rewritten properly into the series to resume his role as a fan-favorite.
So there’s one lose-lose situation: write him in and fear him overshadowing a character arc for Keith or follow through with his death and receive a drop in ratings for killing off a fan-favorite and an LGBTQ character.
But they kept Shiro and allowed him to show himself as a clone experiment. Which, I don’t know about you, but I feel like fans were more shocked to have Shiro as a clone than they were to have him suddenly be magically resurrected. Me, as a viewer, kind of thought the clone idea was a little cheap, but it did make for an amazing fight between Kuron clone and Keith! But, for me, the appearance of this Shiro clone really did interrupt what potential character arcs other characters could have. And better yet, it kind of undermined a bit of Keith’s story because -- what do you know? Keith spent an entire season away on his own adventures because -- with Shiro there -- he wasn’t needed.
So another lose-lose there: risk losing a character (Keith or Lance) by having Shiro/Kuron remain or get rid of Shiro yet again.
And so, it felt like this weird compromise that the writers and executives were faced with. Now they needed a reason for Shiro to stay there, so boom. He’s back as the white-haired space dad we all know and love.
But now, cat’s out of the bag, and we learn about Adam officially! Which was kind of nice to see that Shiro had a life before the Kerberos mission ever happened, and how that -- I think it was referenced -- Shiro was injured but determined to continue his job and mission as a fighter for the Garrison. He and Shiro get into a discussion about Shiro wanting to go on the mission, but they disagreed: Adam wanted Shiro to be safe and Shiro wanted to continue helping the world. Contradicting ideas about what it means to protect someone: to keep them from pushing themselves or pushing oneself to the limit. It was a conflict that lead to them departing form one another until Adam’s death in season 7′s recap of events on Earth.
Yet I think this is where people misunderstand alot about why Shiro and Adam’s story was written like this: this is a story about war. It’s not about romance or love, despite Voltron always having morals of the bonds we form and being stronger together. Those are morals, but the overarching plot is that this is a story about a war between peacekeepers and conquerers. So, even though I was shocked and upset by it, I understood the writers’ decision to kill Adam: it showed that nobody is safe from what war takes from us all. It doesn’t matter what your sexuality is, what your gender is, what you look like. Violence keeps taking casualties.
Of course, this annoyed fans. Why introduce a love interest for Shiro and then not do anything with him? They didn’t even get to speak to each other before Adam was killed -- rather horribly -- for us all.
Well, I think this is kind of what shaped Shiro and his overall endgame story. He continued his mission to help Voltron end the war and stop the destruction of the universe, but that’s because Shiro’s character has always been defined by his morality: it’s what is best for everyone. But, for me, I can’t help but feel like his mission needed to come to an end. Not for the sake of the story, but for the sake of Shiro.
Because, you see, Shiro lost someone he loved before to war. And not just a boyfriend and stuff. I think they mentioned that Adam was his fiance before the argument happened between them. He picked his mission over someone he loved, and for that, Shiro was never allowed to say goodbye or to see what could have been with a happier, calmer life. Shiro’s decision to put the mission aside for the sake of finding happiness in romance? I think that’s an important choice because Shiro was so close to having it before, and I feel like that’s why he didn’t want to give up on it again when the chance came knocking.
But this, once again, annoyed fans because there was another choice made for them. It was either make him a man of war that was dedicated to the peace, or to have him finally get a happy ending that he was denied because of his selflessness. And the writers decided to let Shiro finally be a little selfish for once.
This was met with backlash because, you know, who the heck did he even marry?! Well, his name was Curtis. He was a minor character who appeared a few times, but here are the main facts:
- He sat on Shiro’s side (...Was it left-hand side?) whenever they were on the bridge of the Atlas. - He asks about Iverson’s dog because he seems like a dog person. - He’s friendly with the Atlas crew, being with them during Clear Day for part of the day. - He’s got a preciously derpy face when he feels awkward. - He’s the first one to support Shiro and his arm-wrestling career.
Those are pretty much all of the details we really get from Curtis, which I admit is really not a whole lot. But I think this was done for a reason.
It wasn’t because they wanted to deny you your main ships.
It wasn’t because they wanted to appease the LGBTQ community no matter the consequence.
It was because we didn’t need to know about it.
I think what the writers feared -- and what I personally feared -- when it came to Shiro was that his love life would be the only thing that we would focus on. We’d ignore his impact of being a great leader by stepping down to help another great leader excel. We’d ignore the sacrifices and arcs of other characters because the writers would be too heavily emphasizing Shiro’s back story and side arcs. We’d ignore the fact that Voltron isn’t a romance and that it’s a war story. Instead, all we’d be focused on was who would kiss who and what would be the dominant Shiro ship sailing.
And yet, when people are so obsessed with satisfying their own desires and cravings for ships, representation, plot, etc. and ultimately undermine a character’s integrity, I personally find that much worse than just plain writing a character in an out-of-character context. Their idea of what Shiro is kind of seemed to blind them to not just his story overall, but the fact that he probably wants something too. He’d probably want stability.
I’ve still noticed people saying that they’ve ‘been done wrong,’ or it was ‘dirty’ what they did to Shiro by giving him an off-screen marriage technically. Despite Voltron being a cartoon, it really has connected people in many ways and was one of the first cartoons in awhile to have an LGBTQ character as a main focus throughout the series. So I can see why people felt wronged by Shiro being pushed aside and given background character treatment. And yet, I disagree. Not with the background character thing, even though I feel it was needed. But with the being wronged. As much as I wanted more representation in the show, I feel like that’s all we would focus on until the bitter end, and now... Well, the issues arise with Shiro about his off-screen marriage to a character we vaguely see.
I’m a bit more of an in-depth thinker when it comes to characters. And as someone who also studied character analysis in theatre during college and high school, one of the first things you should normally think about a character is what are they striving for? Shiro’s motivation throughout the series was the defend the universe so he and the others can return home and everything will be at peace from the Galra. But this isn’t the only thing he wanted.
He wanted to start a family. You saw it when it was first mentioned he and Adam were together, and that they would be engaged, I believe. I feel like if you were a military guy wanting to marry a military guy, it would be because you wanted to settle down eventually. I think this was why Adam was so frustrated with Shiro because they were ready to settle. But Shiro’s desire to have a last moment of heroism during Kerberos before... Well, I think it was hinted that he had a disease that affected his arm or something? They were talking about Shiro’s health during their argument. But Shiro’s final hurrah ended up driving them apart because... Well, I don’t know about you, but I get frustrated and angry when things don’t follow through until I eventually go ‘Don’t bother.’
But why not give them a chance to reunite? I feel like it wasn’t done because I feel like there was nothing left for them to say. Shiro did his mission, came back a wreck because he, you know, died a little bit, and thus, it would prove Adam right. Shiro, however, has no regrets over his actions because he did what he thought was right, even if that meant following a different path from romance. This would only create tension, I feel, and make it harder for them to really rekindle things. Their stories moved on, and it was, unfortunately, a tragedy that reunited them once again.
Yet this is all background context because Shiro’s tragic love-life isn’t the main focus of the show. The writers didn’t intend it to be because that would ruin this idea that the universe is much bigger than the Paladins are. It was said in moments of the series that this isn’t just about them anymore: it’s about saving the entire universe. So of course they aren’t going to talk much about Shiro and his finished character arc. They’re not going to give you all the details of who Shiro is crushing on.
They want you to focus on Shiro, the hero, and his (and everyone else’s) role in defending the universe, and I feel like they did an amazing job of it. And even if we didn’t get to see more on-screen romance and representation, I think this was justice done for Shiro in terms of a story. His arc completed when he helped get Voltron to where it needed to be, and so now he can pick-up where he left off from what he had given up in the past.
...That, and I don’t know about you, but being tortured by evil aliens and then having to stop an intergalactic war would make me wanna take a breather too.

A Call
Synopsis: Adam is woken up early by a text from Keith. He's not in the mood, but an email from the Garrison has him calling the kid anyways.
Shiro’s alive.
Adam sighed, pushed his glasses up to rub at his eyes, took a deep breath, and then looked back down at his phone.
Nope, the message was still there.
He glanced at the time.
Goddammit! Six-thirty in the morning was too early to deal with this.
A chirp sounded, announcing he had an email.
Lt Wrona,
Commander Iverson has requested your presence as
Adam didn’t bother reading the rest. Instead he rolled out of bed, grabbed a clean uniform, and marched into the bathroom, all while scrolling through his phone to Keith’s contact.
Keith didn’t pick up the first time, but he picked up the second.
“Ad-”
“What did you do?”
There was a moment of silence. “What?”
“Iverson’s summoned me. The last time that happened, it was because you got yourself kicked out of the Garrison by decking him.”
“It was worth it,” Keith huffed.
“Not the point.”
“I… Did you get my text?”
Adam switched to speakerphone and set his phone down on the counter. “Another reason I’m sure you did something. What the hell was that?”
“It’s true!”
“Have you been hanging out with Katie Holt behind my back?”
“Katie who?”
Good. There’s no telling what trouble those two would cause if they got together. Adam’s still amazed no one’s called her out on her BS alias yet. Honestly, Pidge looks exactly like a shorter Matt Holt. He can’t be the only one who sees it. “Nevermind. Keith, why are you waking your father up with conspiracy theories?”
“Would you stop calling yourself that,” Keith groaned.
“Never.” He’d told Takashi when he’d brought the kid home like some stray dog that he was going to call him whatever he wanted and that wasn’t changing just because Takashi was… gone. Even if they hadn’t been together for nearly a year before he’d left.
He could still remember the look on Takashi’s face when he’d first called Keith their son.
“Shouldn’t you be up already?”
“My classes aren’t until the afternoon. I can sleep in until at least lunch. Now stop changing the subject. What did you do and why are you spreading conspiracy theories?”
“I’m serious, Adam. He’s alive… and he’s also in my shack.”
“He’s… Keith please tell me your kidding.”
“I’m not.”
“How long were you out in the sun yesterday?”
“I don’t have heat stroke!” There was a pause. “This time.”
“Keith! When did you -”
“He’s really here. Also, I might have kidnapped him from the Garrison so that’s probably why Iverson’s bothering you.”
Adam finished buttoning up his uniform and leaned against the sink with a heavy sigh.
“Adam, I swear, I’m not making this up. I told you those carvings said something was arriving last night, and it was Shiro. He crashed in this weird shuttle.”
He remembered last night’s tremors and the lockdown. A meteorite impact, the higher-ups had told them.
“Where did the shuttle come from?”
“Well, I, uh, don’t know. He hasn’t woken up yet so I can’t ask. The others said that he, well…”
“Others?”
“Right. I might have helped a trio of cadets run away from the Garrison.”
Another sigh. “Which cadets?” he asked, though he was sure of at least one.
“Um… I think the big guy was called Hunk? Might be a nickname. And Pidgeon? That doesn’t sound like a name, but I don’t know. He looks like a mini Matt. The last one is that mouthy pilot that was always trying to pick a fight with me.”
“James?” That was weird. Why would James be with Hunk and Katie?
“What? No! The mouthy pilot, not the dick pilot. Cargo class.”
“Keith, you guys shared at least three classes the entire time you were at the Garrison. How hard is it to remember his name is Lance?”
“That was an entire year ago! Be glad I remembered James!”
“That’s because you two were constantly in trouble together,” Adam snorted. He shook his head and left the bathroom. “So where do they think Takashi came from?”
“Okay, so this part’s going to sound like a conspiracy theory, but you can’t blame me. They’re the ones saying it… They think it’s aliens.”
Yeah, that sounded like Katie.
“Look, just come out here so you can see for yourself.”
“I can’t. Iverson awaits, remember.”
“Who gives a -”
“He’s still my commanding officer, remember?” Adam grabbed his keys and sat down on the stool next to the door to pull on his boots. “I’ll come by after I see him. If anything you’re saying is true, he’s probably just fishing for information on your whereabouts.”
“It is. What are you going to tell him?”
“Keith. You texted me and are talking to me on my Garrison issued phone. It’s not like I can lie. They’ll have records.”
“You’re the worst.”
“Just stay where you are.”
“They had him strapped to a table, Adam.”
That made him pause. “That… Let me handle it. It was probably just a misunderstanding. He’s been missing, presumed dead, for over a year, Keith. They were probably just being cautious.”
Keith snorted.
“Just hang tight and I’ll get this figured out. Listen to your father.”
“Adam, I… Crud, I gotta go! He’s up!”
“Keith!”
“Talk to you later!”
“Just stay -”
The call ended.
With one last sigh, Adam pocket his phone and headed out. He only made it five steps before he got a text.
No, not a text, a picture.
Adam had to lean against the wall to steady himself.
He’d gotten bigger during the year, bulked up. He was wearing what looked like the vest from Keith’s father’s uniform and there was a bit of white in his hair towards the front. Adam could really only see a quarter of his face from the angle Keith had taken the picture, but he was still recognizable.
“Takashi.”
As expected, Iverson wanted to know if he’d heard from Keith.
At first, he was was charged with the abduction of three missing cadets. When Adam flashed the picture of his ex-boyfriend, Iverson kindly changed it to being wanted for questioning in the disappearance of three runaways.
He wouldn’t tell Adam anything about Takashi though.
“Officially, he is still missing, presumed dead,” Iverson affirmed.
Adam was sure that both Keith and Takashi would have rolled their if they had heard that. Officially only meant on paper, especially when someone in power said it like that.
As he’d told Keith, Adam didn’t lie and soon enough Iverson was gathering men to head out to Keith’s shack.
Adam and the others (Iverson not included because of course he couldn’t be bothered to spend two hours driving out to the middle of the desert) were halfway to the shack when a giant robotic lion took to the sky.
“What is that?” Montgomery gasped.
That would be Keith not listening and a pack of Holt’s, as per usual, being proven right, Adam thought. He watched the lion disappear into the atmosphere already knowing the shack would be abandoned once they reached it. He didn’t bother telling the others to turn back, though, out of some faint hope he’d be proven wrong.
He wasn’t. The only things in the shack of note were an outfit made of an odd fabric; a cork board filled with Keith’s doodles, pictures of lion carvings, and notes on weird energy in the desert; and a note from Keith.
Adam,
Checking something out. Don’t know when/if we’ll be back. Say hi to Iverson for me.
Not your son,
Keith
He’d ask where he and Takashi went wrong with the kid, but he knew Keith had been like that before Takashi’d found him and every bit of effort they’d put into him died when Takahi did.
Or was labeled to be dead at least.
“I’m going to kick that kid’s ass when he gets back,” he muttered, already dreading the rant Iverson was going to give once he saw the note.
Adam wasn’t there when Keith got back.

Please Don’t Punch Me
Summary:
Keith is not Nyma’s boyfriend, but Lance thinks he is. Lance also thinks that Keith wants to punch him in the face for flirting with her, and maybe making out with her, but in his defense, she didn’t tell him she had a boyfriend with a jealous streak a mile wide!
So naturally, Lance buys Keith a ‘please don’t punch me in the face’ beer.
Keith just thinks he’s flirting.
Read what I wrote under the cut :)
‘You can’t punch a guy if he buys you a beer, its science, I’m telling you,’ Lance has to raise his voice slightly to be heard above the background buzz of people talking in the bar. Its busy.
‘I dunno man, I’ve heard stories about Nyma’s boyfriend. I reeeeally think it’d be best if you just avoided him. Some other shmuck will make the mistake of hitting on her, and he’ll forget all about you,’ replies Hunk, ever the voice of reason.
‘Two beers please!’ says Lance to the bartender.
‘Is one of those for me?’
‘Three beers please!’ amends Lance quickly.
‘-But It’s your funeral I guess.’
‘Aw, c’mon, you’ll have my back right? If he tries to fight me?’
‘You know how I feel about violence,’ says Hunk. Lance rolls his eyes.
‘Yeah, and I know how intimidating you can look when you put your mind to it. You don’t have to fight him for me, just, you know, scare him off if it looks like I’ll be murdered.’
Suddenly Hunk’s cheeks turn pink as he catches sight of something over Lance’s shoulder. Lance turns his head to see what’s caught Hunk’s attention, before snorting in amusement.
“Oh look, there’s Shay,” he says slyly.
“La-nce,” wines Hunk pathetically, “Look at her, she’s so beautiful. And she’s so kind and nice and smart.”
“Why don’t you go buy her a drink and then tell her everything you just told me?” suggests Lance helpfully.
Hunk twiddles his thumbs.
“I dunno man…”
He loves Hunk like a brother, he really does, but Hunk needs to grow some balls. Lance decides to take pity on him. He turns around to face Shay and draws in a deep breath--
“Hey Shay!” he hollers, waving wildly.
“Lance! What are you doing?” whispers Hunk furiously.
“I’m helping you. You’ll thank me later.”
Lance feels Hunk’s whole body jolt as Shay spots them and beams sunnily. She weaves through the crowd to reach them.
“Hi guys!” she chirps.
“Evenin’ Shay,” says Lance smoothly.
“Hi,” gasps Hunk, sounding like he’s about to die.
“What’re you having Shay? Hunk here is going to buy you a drink,” says Lance jovially, slapping Hunk on the back.
He doesn’t miss the shyly pleased look that crosses Shay’s face as she gazes at Hunk.
These two were so stupidly gone for each other that their mutual pining was making Lance ill.
“Um, are you sure-”
“YES!” Hunk cleared his throat, “I mean, yes. What would you like?”
Across the bar Lance spots a man staring at him.
Lance doesn’t actually know what Nyma’s boyfriend’s name is, or what he looks like. All he knows is that he’s here, that wants to punch Lance in the face, and that he rides a motorcycle.
The guy staring at him is wearing a red motorcycle jacket and matching riding boots. That coupled with the way he’s fixated on him; Lance figures that must be the guy.
He takes that as his cue.
“I think I see the person I bought this other beer for over there. I’ll catch up with you guys in a minute.”
Hunk and Shay barely spare him a glance as he slips away, a beer handle clutched tightly in each fist.
The guy looks less scary and aggressive than he expects, and his gaze tracks Lance’s movement. Lance is proud he doesn’t spill any drink as he dodges through the thick crowd.
The guy is conveniently leaning against a wall next to a table so Lance puts down one of the beers so he can extend one of his hands.
‘Hi, I’m Lance, that guy you hate,’ he says, with his most charming smile, the one that flashes his straight white teeth and dimples.
The guy blinks like he can’t believe Lance is front of him talking to him, as if he didn’t just watch Lance’s approach whilst staring like a god-damn bird of prey. Lance thinks maybe he’s surprised that he had the audacity to address him like this?
He takes Lance’s offered hand hesitantly.
‘…I’m Keith,’ he says.
Lance catalogs that he has a nice voice, that his grip is strong, and that he’s wearing finger-less leather gloves.
He’s actually, on the whole, kind of, well --- hot. In a bad boy I-could-beat-you-up-with-my-hands-tied-behind-my-back kind of way. His hair is inky black and hangs into his eyes, which are dark. Lance can’t tell the exact color in the low light of the bar. He looks vaguely Asian, with the exact sharp jawline and lithe-but-muscular body type Lance is weak for in boys. Men.
He’s shorter than Lance, but that’s a given. Everyone is shorter than him, except Hunk. And Shiro. Ok not everyone, but Lance is tall, ok?
Basically, if the guy didn’t have a girlfriend and didn’t want to punch him in the face, Lance probably would have tried to chat him up.
‘So-- why do I hate you?’ asks Keith once Lance lets go of his hand.
Lance realises that Keith has not made the connection, and decides it would be better for himself if it stays that way until he can charm him enough that he doesn’t even want to hit him anymore no matter what he may or may not have done with Nyma.
‘I dunno man, but I bought you this to make it up to you,’ he says airily, holding out the beer for Keith to take.
Keith crosses his arms over his chest and frowns.
‘How do I know you didn’t put anything in it?’
Lance blinks, then he brings the beer to his lips to take a large gulp. He sees Keith eyes track the bobbing movement of his Adam’s apple as he swallows.
‘Not poisoned, I promise,’ he says with a lazy grin, holding out the beer again.
This time Keith accepts it.
‘So what brings you out tonight?’ Lance asks.
‘Came to see the live band.’
‘Hey, that’s why I’m here! My friend Pidge is playing-’
‘Are you the punk that’s been hitting on my girlfriend?’ a veritable mountain of muscle shoulder barges Lance from his spot in front of Keith, causing Lance to slosh beer all over the floor.
The guy was huge, just as tall as Lance, but much wider. All muscle. His nostrils are flared, meaty fists clenched, teeth bared.
In short, he is terrifying.
‘No,’ replies Keith coolly, not looking the least bit concerned or afraid.
‘Listen here you little shit-’
‘Woah woah woah, heeey, let’s talk about this calmly like gentlemen,’ Lance ran his stupid mouth and forced his stupid limbs between them, a hand on each chest. The guy didn’t budge at all at the pressure Lance exerted.
‘How about we all take a deep breath and-’
‘Get your fucking hand off me you faggot,’ the guy spat, and Lance can’t help but flinch at the sheer level of hostility.
‘What the fuck did you just say?’ says Keith quietly. Dangerously. The outline of his body goes ominously rigid and his hands curl into fists.
The situation is deteriorating out of control and Lance makes one last ditch effort to salvage it. Keith doesn’t deserve to get beat up on Lance’s account.
‘Look, we don’t want any trouble-’
The guy suddenly shoves him away. Lance stumbles back and slips on the beer he’d spilt. His arms windmill to correct his balance, but ultimately gravity brings him down, hard. On the way to the floor his head smashes against the corner of the table. His head throbs and his vision swims.
‘You’ll regret that,’ Lance dully registers that although Keith didn’t raise his voice, he sounds scary furious.
Things after that were a bit… blurry.
He hears a pained groan, and the sound of a heavy body hitting the floor.
Keith’s pretty face appears right in front of him. He looks concerned.
‘Lance! Are you okay?’
His head hurts.
‘I think… I think this is my fault,’ although his brain is strangely slow and sluggish, he manages to realise that Keith is not Nyma’s boyfriend. A misunderstanding has happened, and he thinks he knows where he went wrong.
Or at least he will, once his head stops pounding enough to think properly.
‘This isn’t your fault,’ says Keith fiercely, helping him stand. He is embarrassingly unsteady, and Keith has to stick by his side to keep him upright.
Lance looks down and see the guy laid out on the floor. Did Keith just...?
‘Did you… did you defend my honor?’ he asks stupidly.
‘He was being an asshole,’ replies Keith churlishly.
‘Lance! What happened!?’ Hunk is there now too.
‘I think Keith laid this guy out ‘cause he called me a nasty name.”
Lance vaguely registers that Hunk and Keith exchange names and shake hands. They are talking to each other, probably about him, but he can’t make sense of it over the pounding in his head.
The next thing he is aware of is sitting in a car. He’s in the back seat with his head in Hunk’s lap and Keith is driving.
‘Where are we going?’ he slurs. Hunk eyes him wearily.
‘The hospital Lance.”
‘Whose car?”
“Shiro’s,” answers Keith.
For some reason he feels tears gathering at the corner of his eyes. He can’t stop thinking about the virulence in that guy’s tone when he’d spat that hateful word…
‘Why’d he call me that?’ Lance whimpers.
‘Why’d who call you what buddy?’ asks Hunk patiently. Lance sniffs.
‘Because he’s a homophobic asshole,’ supplies Keith. Hunk makes a noise of understanding.
‘Why am I so upset though? I’m not… I’m not even gay, but it hurts.’
Lance is aware that he is whining, and probably not making much sense but he can’t control himself.
‘Oh Lance,’ sighs Hunk, patting his head.
‘Hunk! What about Shay!’ Lance exclaims suddenly.
‘Let me worry about Shay.’
‘You gotta… you gotta ask her out man.’
‘Sure thing buddy.’
This is just something I wrote. Where am I going with this? I don’t know. If you have any ideas please let me know lol
