Since we reopened, almost every day I hear customers say the same thing: “I love this, but I’m not going to have anywhere to wear it until the pandemic is over.”

Which is fair! It does seem weird to buy a party dress when you know there will be no parties for the foreseeable future. But a) that is a bummer, and b) I want people to have nice things! I want people to have a chance to ENJOY their nice things, and not just sigh over them when they see them hanging in the closet.

So I would like to propose a solution. I’m calling it Fancy Tuesday.

Fancy Tuesday: the opposite of Casual Friday. On Fancy Tuesday, you wear the thing that you’ve been waiting for an excuse to wear. The party dress, the Good Jewelry, the elaborate hairstyle or the cosplay costume you made for a canceled con.

Even if you’re just going to the grocery store. Even if you’re not leaving the house! Put it on, take a selfie, do a twirl if it’s got a twirly skirt. Show up to your Zoom meetings like you’re ready for your close-up.

Fancy things are meant to be worn and enjoyed. So if you’re waiting for an excuse to wear and enjoy them, here it is! I am officially granting you permission. Fancy Tuesday is all the reason you need .

October 6 will be the inaugural Fancy Tuesday, and I’ll be doing my best to get fancy every Tuesday from now until we all can go to parties again. If you want to participate, please be sure to tag your posts with #fancytuesday so I can admire your fanciness level!

It’s Fancy Tuesday! Last week I was too stressed out to be fancy, but this week I’m just the normal amount of stressed for 2020, hooray!

It felt like a good day for a floaty, flowy dress. I almost never wear maxidresses — I usually don’t like how they fit— but this 1970s one is a perfect, flattering cut. It makes me feel like a Jane Austen heroine.

I pulled out a pair of enameled earrings I haven’t worn in forever, and a matching antique pendant that I used to wear constantly. It needed a new chain, so it’s been sitting neglected in my jewelry box until today, when Fancy Tuesday provided the necessary motivation to fix it.

The silver clasped hands ring is a recent find; I don’t usually wear rings that often, but I can see this one getting a lot of use.
