🍡Edible Tapioca Beads Sensory Activity🍡 * 🍡Recommended age for activity: 2yrs +. 🍡I did this activity with my 1yr old, but, I sat beside him the whole time to make sure he wouldn't eat a handful of tapioca pearls! 🤣. Because he definitely would if I didn't. 🍡This activity is so much fun for kids and really enhances their sensory experience. 🍡This activity Is also great for motor skills development, to review colours and counting (if your toddler is old enough) and talk about textures. 🍡Make sure this activity is right for your child. Small children need to be supervised 100% of the time as they will try to eat the beads!!! They are taste safe, but, kids should be discouraged from doing so. * 🍡What you need: 🌟Tapioca pearls/beads (got mine from the Asian super market). 🌟Vinegar. 🌟Food Colouring (optional). * * 🍡How to: 🌟Cook tapioca pearls according to instructions in packaging (can get the quick cook ones). 🌟Once cooled and rinsed divide pearls in separate containers depending on the colours you want. I used 4 containes, for 4 colours. 🌟add 1tbs of vinegar in each of the containers, then add a bit of food colouring and mix. I used gel food colouring for brighter colours. 🌟I left the pearls for a couple hours so the beads would really absorb the colours. Though, I think an hours should be enough time. 🌟Give each container of pearls a rinse with cold water. 🌟Place all the colours in a large container and give to child to play with, add a few scoops for kids to play with beads as it makes it more fun. 🌟Children have such a blast once they start mixing and scooping 🎉. * #toddler#toddlerlife#toddlermom#toddlerfun#toddleractivities#kidsactivities#sensoryactivitiesfortoddlers#sensoryactiesathome#funwithtoddlerathome#kidsactivities#kidsactivitiesathome#makinglearningfun#makinglearningeasy#toddlerlearning#toddlerdevelopment#toddlerdevelopmentalgames#toddlerplay (at Toronto, Ontario)

🤹♂️Colour Ball Sorting🤹♂️ * ✨This is a very popular activity, but, I didn't start doing it with Jacob until a few days ago. Now have realized why it's so popular! It's such an easy activity for kids, fun and simple, but, really keeps little ones entertained! 🙌 🌟Best of all, is such a great activity to help young children develop hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, and colour recognition. 🌟I used matching colour stickers to indicate where each colour ball goes. Even if your little one is not matching colours yet, they're still working on other important developmental skills. * #toddlerdevelopmentalgames#craftymommy#makinglearningfun#makinglearningsimple#makinglearningfun#makinglearningeasy#toddler#toddlemom#toddlemom#parentinglife#toddlerlearningcolours (at Toronto, Ontario)

✨Sponge Blocks✨ * This week I'm really concentrating on colour recognition, and practice is key. So, got a few of the think foam kitchen sponges in bright colours. 🌟Then I realized they work great as blocks for young kids because they're light and easy to manipulate. My one year old handles them so easily, its fantastic! 🌟They can also be cut into shapes 🔺🔸🔹. 🌟Also, they're really great for getting little ones practicing colour recognition, fine motor skills, concentration, and hand-eye coordination. 🌟Jacobs had so much, and the beat part, he's play-learning! 🎉Happy Friday!! 🎉 * #toddler#toddlerfun#toddlerlife#toddleractivitiesathome#toddleractivities#makinglearningeasy#makinglearningsimple#makinglearningfun#craftymommy#toddlerdevelopmentalgames (at Toronto, Ontario)

🌈🌈Colour Scavenger Hunt🌈🌈 🌟Learning colours is so important for preeschoolers: "color, it’s one of the most noticeable attributes of the world around us. For babies and small children, understanding colour is an essential building block they will use for learning in all areas of their life." 🌟Jacob and I had so much fun! These are all the green items we collected as indicated by the cube 🙌, its such a fun and interactive learning game! 🌟Need to keep making learning games for Jacob, fun and challenging at the same time! 🌟Source: https://www.iidc.indiana.edu/styles/iidc/defiles/ECC/tip-recognizecolors.pdf * #toddler#toddlerfun#toddlerlife#toddlermom#toddlerlearning#toddlerdevelopmentalgames#makinglearningfun#reusingplasticeggs#havingfunwithtoddler#makinglearningeasy#parentinglife#toddlerlearningcolours#toddlercolourgames (at Toronto, Ontario)

Color Scavanger Hunt 🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈 * 🌟Re-use your plastic eggs for this fun and colourful learning game. 🌟Check my previous post on "developmental interactive game," for details on how I made the colour cube. 🌟I used a colour cube to throw it with Jacob and them look for the same colour eggs, as indicated bu the cube, around the house. 🌟Once we found the same colour eggs, I pulled out a basket of items in all different colours, so we could pick the same colour items as the cube and egg. 🌟This is such a fun and great learning activity. It gets young kids practicing colour recognition, hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and making cognitive connections. 🌟Hope you have lots of fun! 🌟Play is the way preschoolers learn about the world, only for them its not just play, but, the way they're starting to make sense of the world. 🌟Lately I've been combining puzzles, books and plastic/plush animals to maximize both playtime and Jacobs learning experience. I think it really helps young kids make connections. * 🌟I looked at some research, read below ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ * 🔷Psychologists have determined that a child’s brain development is influenced significantly when a child acts on or manipulates the world around him or her. Puzzles provide that key opportunity. Children learn to work directly with their environment and change its shape and appearance when they work with puzzles. 🌟Working with puzzles helps kids develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, gross motor skills, shape/color recognition, memory, and setting small goals. 🌟Hope everyone having a great day! Cheers!! * 🌟Source: https://childdevelopmentinfo.com/child-activities/why-puzzles-are-good-for-your-childs-development/#.WO-3WTz3bYU * #toddler#toddlerdevelopmentalgames#toddlerlearning#toddlermom#toddlerfun#toddlerlife#toddlerlearningthrouhhplay#toddlerdevelopment#parentinglife#parentinginfo#toddleractivities#toddleractivitiesathome#makinglearningfun#makinglearningfunathome#makinglearningeasier#makinglearningsimple#makinglearningfunandeasy

✨Benefits of Playing with Bubbles✨ * Haven't met the kid that doesn't like bubbles yet, they love it! Bubbles are such a fun sensory game, from babies to kids all ages. I used bubbles in my Easter activity bag because its such a super fun, yet, simple sensory game, one that gets kids practicing a wide range of developmental activities. 🌟Check my previous post on how to make no-tear bubbles. * 🌟Here's some info I found. Read below ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ * 🌟Fine Motor Skill Development: kids have the opportunity to practice hand coordination, using both hands to hold the bottle and dip, holding the blower with a pencil-like grasp, opening and closing the bottle, and using hands in different ways to pop the bubbles. 🌟Visual Tracking Skills Development: kids follow the bubbles go. Some are fast and some are slow. 🌟Hand/Eye Coordination: it takes serious practice to link up what the eyes and hands are doing in order to accurately dip and blow with a wand. 🌟Sensory Processing Skills: bubbles are wet. and slimy. and sticky. And the physical act of blowing can be a very effective sensory-based way to help children “organize”, calm, and focus their bodies. 🌟Oral Motor Skills: blowing bubbles is good exercise for little mouths. 🌟Social and Communication Skills: kids can ask or sign for “more” and establish eye contact when doing so. And if playing in a group, they can practice taking turns. 🌟Gross Motor Skills: an easy way to get kids to reach way up high, stand on their tippie toes, squat, jump, run, stomp, and kick. 🌟Following Directions: You can give them directions on how to pop the bubbles with each turn (clap them, poke them, squeeze them, jump on them, etc). 🌟Identifying body parts. Pop with your finger, your elbow, your knee, or your nose. 🌟Language and cognitive skills: can teach toddlers and preschoolers how to understand and describe where the bubbles are and what they’re doing by pointing things out when they happen. 🌟Speech Skills: /b/ and /p/ (those formed in the front of the mouth with the lips) are early speech sounds that are naturally used during bubble play. * 🌟Source:http://mamaot.com/about/. * #parentinglife#toddlerlife#toddlerdevelopmentalgames (at Toronto, Ontario)

🤹♂️This is what the tapioca pearls look like the next day, a bit greenish as all the food dyes mix a bit more over night. 🤹♂️I can't stress enough, if you're doing this activity with smaller children they need to be aupervised 100% of the time, as they will try to eat the beads in a handful! I know Jacob tried to do so, but, ai was beside him to prevent and discourage him from doing so. 🤹♂️I would say the shelve life for them is a couple days. The first day, after Jacib was done playing, I stored them in the fridge with a bit of water so they wouldn't smush and become all sticky. 🤹♂️Jacob absolutely LOVED this activity, he just had a blast. It also gave me a good chance to talk to him about texture, colours, and what cold feels like. 🤹♂️Caregivers will also love this activity, the beads feel so good in your hands. Honestly, they're a ton of fun! 🤹♂️I also gave Jacob cups and a couple animals that like water elephant & hippo), so we could play with them and I could tell him why about those animals and why they like water. 🤹♂️The mess level of this activity is minimal, I used a large plastic container for Jacob to play with them, and to store them. To further minimize any mess, as the beads are quite sticky, I placed a large plastic recycling bag underneath. 🤹♂️Cheers!! 🎉 * #toddler#toddlerlife#toddlermom#toddlerfun#toddleractivities#kidsactivities#sensoryactivitiesfortoddlers#sensoryactiesathome#funwithtoddlerathome#kidsactivities#kidsactivitiesathome#makinglearningfun#makinglearningeasy#toddlerlearning#toddlerdevelopment#toddlerdevelopmentalgames#toddlerplay

🍡Edible Water Beads🍡 🌟Love how colourful they turned out! Kids love it!! * * 🍡According to research from the Michigan State University, young children use all their senses to explore objects and they file it away in their memories. Also, when children have sensory experiences, they store their whole body experiences in their “sensory memory.” We use our sensory memory to begin the process of understanding and gaining knowledge. * 🌟Source: http://msue.anr.msu.edu/news/cognitive_development_and_sensory_play * #toddler#toddlerlife#toddlermom#toddlerfun#toddleractivities#kidsactivities#sensoryactivitiesfortoddlers#sensoryactiesathome#funwithtoddlerathome#kidsactivities#kidsactivitiesathome#makinglearningfun#makinglearningeasy#toddlerlearning#toddlerdevelopment#toddlerdevelopmentalgames#toddlerplay (at Toronto, Ontario)

🔷Interactive Cognitive Developmental Game🔺 * 🔶Importance of Colour: 🌟Color is one of the first ways your preschooler makes distinctions among things she sees; color words are some of the first words she uses to describe these things. 🌟 While it is important for your child to know the names of the colors, it is just as important for him/her to know what to do with them. You can help by inviting him/her to notice many shades, hues, and tints. Make up names for these colors together, such as lemon yellow or apple red. You will be helping him/her use color as a means for creative thinking and language. 🔷Power of Shapes: 🌟When your child explores different shapes, he/she is using one of the most basic educational processes: the observation of same and different. This concept provides him/her with a basic process that they will be able to use in observing, comparing and discussing all she sees and encounters. 🔷Shapes are also symbols. Not surprisingly, the early recognition of shapes relates to your child's ability to read symbols otherwise know as letters. Capital letters are made mostly of circles (or parts of circles) and lines. The first step in understanding letters is the ability to know the difference between a circle and a square or rectangle. * 🌟Details coming tomorrow! 🌟 🌟Info source on colour and shape: http://www.scholastic.com/browse/article.jsp?id=3746476 * #toddler#toddlerfun#toddlerfun#toddlerlearning#toddlergames#toddlerdevelopment#toddlerdevelopmentalgames#toddlerlearningcolors#toddlerlearningshapes#toddleractivities#toddleractivitiesathome#craftymommy#smarttoddlersrock#toddlermom#toddlerinfo#toddlercolourandshapegames#funwithtoddler#makinglearningfun#makingleaders#makinglearningeasyandfun#makinglearningeasier#makinglearningexciting#makinglearningeasier#makinglearningsimple (at Toronto, Ontario)

🌟Interactive Cognitive Developmental Game🌟 * 🔷Great game to teach your toddler or practice with your toddler colors and shapes🔹🔺. 🔶Color and shape are ways children observe and categorize what they see. These very recognizable characteristics encourage children to define and organize the diverse world around them. 🔷Sorting by color and shape prepares your child for future mathematical applications, classifying information, making comparisons and organizing information. 🔵This is such a fun and interactive game. Here toddler and caregiver will take turns throwing each of the cubes, and then sort items according to what they get. You can make the game even more fun by being silly and encouraging your toddler to look for items around the house that have the same colours or shapes that appear in the cube. 🔴Details coming tomorrow! 🎉 * 🌟Info source on colour and shape: http://www.scholastic.com/browse/article.jsp?id=3746476 * #toddler#toddlerfun#toddlerfun#toddlerlearning#toddlergames#toddlerdevelopment#toddlerdevelopmentalgames#toddlerlearningcolors#toddlerlearningshapes#toddleractivities#toddleractivitiesathome#craftymommy#smarttoddlersrock#toddlermom#toddlerinfo#toddlercolourandshapegames#funwithtoddler#makinglearningfun#makingleaders#makinglearningeasyandfun#makinglearningeasier#makinglearningexciting#makinglearningeasier#makinglearningsimple (at Toronto, Ontario)

🔷Interactive Cognitive Developmental Game🔶 * 🔶What you need & How to: 🌟Cardboard, enough to make a couple cubes and 2 rectangular boards, 1 shapes board and 1 colours board. The sizes depend on how big you want to make everything. The sizes of the boards I made are: 43cm X 12cm. 🌟Divide each cardboard in 3 by drawing lines with a marker, that way you can separate colours from shapes. I used a ruler to divide the spaces equally. 🌟Colour paper, for the colour board and cube. Cut 3 pieces of different colours and glue them onto the board. 🌟I left the shapes board spaces in a neutral colour, as shapes can be any colour. 🌟Divide the shapes cardboard in 3 equal spaces, draw 1 shape in each space. 🌟You can do as many shapes/colours as you like, they just have to match the cube, if, you're making one. This game can also be played without the cube, the cube just makes it more interactive. 🌟Can also turn the board around and add more colours/shapes on that side. 🌟Use cardboard to cut 6 pieces to make one cube, or, 12 pieces to make 2 cubes. I made 2 cubes, one for shapes and one for colours. But, you can also make one cube and add 3 colours and 3 shapes to that one cube. 🌟Your cube can be any size, I wanted mine a bit bigger so it was easier for my almost 1yr old to grab. I made them 12cm X 14cm. I used a box of playdough and divided it in 2, as it was easier. 🌟Another idea is to cut small pieces of paper of different colours, and small pieces of paper with shapes drawn on the paper, they would have to match what you have in your boards. Fold all the pieces of paper, put them in a bag or hat, and have your toddler pick one out. 🌟At the end I used contact paper to laminate both boards and cubes, that way they'll last longer. 🔷I also made an arrow out of cardboard, to change the game a bit and use the arrow to point at colours and shapes in the house. This can be done with or without the cube. * #toddler#toddlerfun#toddlerlearning#toddlergames#toddlerdevelopment#toddlerdevelopmentalgames#toddlerlearningcolors#toddlerlearningshapes#toddleractivities#toddleractivitiesathome#craftymommy#smarttoddlersrock#toddlermom#makinglearningsimple#makinglearningfun
