𖥔‧₊˚ ⊹ YOU ARE WATCHING THE FINALE OF THE MOON COLLECTION !
The year is 2020, and you've sat through twelve grueling episodes of Angelico's newest survival show, The Moon Collection, watching each week as a girl is picked apart and eliminated, leaving us with the current final twelve.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
𖥔‧₊˚ ⊹ CLICK HERE TO VOTE TODAY !
Though the final twelve are deeply beloved by users on Twitter, many of them ask, "Can't this be the final lineup?" there can only be seven in the new Angelico girl group. You watch the final performance, an original song produced by none other than fan favorite mentor Finn Lee of DeepDive, and pull out your phone to pick your top pick. You get three votes a day. Will you split your votes up among your top girls or vote for the same girl three times? The choice is yours. Get your votes in before September 22nd since that's when the polls close.
𖥔‧₊˚ ⊹ LET'S RECAP !
Navi Pandya is currently RANKED 1ST and has ranked 1st for the entirety of the season. That isn't a surprise to anyone since she's already won a survival show before. She ranked 5th in I.O.I, debuting with the group all the way back in 2016, but her career was sabotaged by her previous company, Flowerbank Entertainment, who locked her in the basement once I.O.I disbanded. Now, she's back and ready to debut in a group again.
FAN FAVORITE NAVI MOMENT !
Charlotte "Cherry" Kim is currently RANKED 11TH and has steadily declined in votes since the show started. In the initial rankings, she ranked SIXTH overall, but after a messy confrontation with Yoomi that left the ladder in tears, voters have not been kind to Cherry. Her talent and visuals seem to have gotten her to the finale. Cherry's career started when she was sixteen when she was a member of a grunge rock band, DOLLEYES. Due to their lack of success, Cherry left DOLLEYES in 2017 and became a trainee in Korea.
FAN FAVORITE CHERRY MOMENT !
Lee Chaerin is currently RANKED 6TH and has steadily gained votes over the season. When the show began, Chaerin was often criticized for her lack of stage presence and "dead eyes," which later turned into "crazy eyes" because she was trying too hard. She's shown massive improvement since, neutralizing her expressions while maintaining a cool demeanor on stage. Chaerin has been a trainee for three years.
FAN FAVORITE CHAERIN MOMENT !
Luna Müller is currently RANKED 4TH and has maintained her rank as fourth for half the season. Luna has a massive fanbase in Brazil that will get your Twitter account suspended for saying something even slightly constructive about their perfect angel. Despite her fans being rabid, Luna has gone viral many times for her visuals, Gen Z humor, and her close friendship with Navi. The pair often mention debuting together and are seen holding hands during elimination ceremonies.
FAN FAVORITE LUNA MOMENT !
Jang Yoomi is currently RANKED 12TH, and no one knows how she got there. While Yoomi showcased her talent and put her three years of training to good use, people could not help but notice the glaringly obvious angel edit that the producers were shoving down viewers' throats. Viewers of the show will swear they've never seen an actual Yoomi stand and that they're not real. Yoomi is quiet and sweet and was voted the best dancer among the final twelve girls.
FAN FAVORITE YOOMI MOMENT !
Isla "Love" Williams is currently RANKED 8TH and has fluctuated in rankings all season. Isla is well-known in the JPOP sphere, being a part of an overseas JPOP group called "IceDream" and then being recruited to be added to ANGERME, a group within Hello! Project. Though she graduated from the group in 2018 to become a KPop trainee, fans still adore her for her lively stage presence and powerhouse vocals. It's theorized that her fluctuating rank is due to Angelico trying to rig the lineup.
FAN FAVORITE LOVE MOMENT !
Evangeline Rostova, who goes by Evie, is currently RANKED 2ND and remained in the top three for the entire season. Evie was a successful gymnast at 17, with a good chance of making it to the Olympics. However, she left her gymnastics career behind and went to Korea to begin training. Evie is noted for having a solid Korean fanbase and fierce stage presence. She runs the practice room like the Navy, which is why every team she's led ended up winning that week. Evie is called an "Ice Queen" unless she's with Love, resulting in the pair being a popular ship on the show.
FAN FAVORITE EVIE MOMENT !
Aubrie Lee is currently RANKED 9TH and has dropped significantly in the last three episodes. Though Aubrie is talented and has been training the longest out of anyone on the show, her interaction with her brother, Finn, caused his fans to stop voting for her, resulting in her rank dropping from 3rd to 9th. Aubrie has taken on a motherly role on the show alongside Castiel as they're the eldest on the show. She's gone viral many times for her visuals and ability to shake her ass no matter the situation.
FAN FAVORITE AUBRIE MOMENT !
Kim Yuna is currently RANKED 10TH after steadily climbing the ranks all season. Yuna is not that talented. She's very pretty, and she's very funny, but she blends into the background while on stage and is often given rap parts that she butchers. In her defense, she was never training to be an idol. She was a model before joining The Moon Collection. Though she still isn't as good as the other finalists, she's steadily improved and kept the group's spirits high by cracking jokes and being a shoulder to cry on.
FAN FAVORITE YUNA MOMENT !
Saanvi "Sani" Thamp is currently RANKED 3RD and has dramatically jumped voters in the past three episodes. Sani had previously debuted in the nugu girl group "Dollsworld" in 2017 at age fifteen. She would go viral for all the wrong reasons, her "baby voice" being mocked relentlessly by stan Twitter users until Dollsworld's disbandment in 2020. When Sani appeared in The Moon Collection, viewers were shocked at her growth as a singer and performer. Though the youngest on the show, Sani has consistently raised the bar for herself every episode, consistently improving and expressing her desire to debut in a group that won't have to sell feet pics for income.
FAN FAVORITE SANI MOMENT !
Castiel Diop is currently RANKED 7TH and has remained in the top seven for the entirety of the season. Previously having debuted in the erased Angelico girl group Emphasis in 2013 under the stage name Cassie, she not only has a fire under ass to redebut but to prove herself as a talented and versatile artist. Castiel has gone viral for her one liners as well as her freestyles. She's easily the most talented rapper on the show, but also has some of the best stage presence which her fans will not hesitate to remind you about.
FAN FAVORITE CASTIEL MOMENT !
Ju Sooah is currently RANKED 5th and has shot up in votes after she danced for her life in the previous elimination ceremony. Sooah has been under the radar for most watchers, but seeing her duck walk and death drop to avoid elimination gained her a certified rainbow fanbase that is very serious about her debut. Sooah is often seen with Yoomi or Chaerin, either interacting with them or keeping to herself. Her visuals had her going viral when the show first started, but discussion has shifted to her dancing talents as she's been dancing since she was six years old.
FAN FAVORITE SOOAH MOMENT !

DeepDive began their journey originally in 2014 under the publicly known money laundering flop company Stormedia with an original five-member lineup. The group was in the pits of nugudom, only having four releases and a consistently rotating lineup. Son Jinhwa, the former Angelico CEO, would buy the rights to the group in late 2015. Nothing is ever simple with Jinhwa. DeepDive would go under an intense rebranding, where not only all the content and music they made under Stormedia was wiped from the internet and is now considered lost media but would also put the group through a survival show where the lineup would be remade.
Many fans believe that the official start of DeepDive was in 2016, excluding the ones who have been following the group for almost 10 years. They consider the true original lineup to consist of Han, Jisung, Blue, Noah, Woojin, Kiwoo, and Finn. Unfortunately, the group faced some difficulties when Woojin left the lineup in 2019, and he was quickly replaced by Jacob Lee, a former member of Wanna One. The last lineup change occurred in 2023 when Han exited the group due to their contract being acquired by Flowerbank Entertainment.
Though the group's history is a complete mess, there is one undoubtable fact: The music goes hard.
THE SOUND OF DEEPDIVE cannot be described as one sound but as cohesive noise that is regarded as one of the best and most diverse boy group discographies in Kpop.
2016 — WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT ENERGY ?!
Debuting three months after their survival show concluded, the now seven-member piece would come out the gate with the physical single "Energy," which, despite being a banger, was overlooked by most of the general public.
While not having a strong debut like they planned to, DeepDive would come back with their first mini-album, "Happiness," promoting the title track "Get Around" relentlessly just to end up with the same disappointing results. The mini album would perform better than their debut, but that's not saying much since Energy didn't chart anywhere, and Get Around only managed to hit 103 on the Goan digital chart.
Their last release of 2016 would still stick to the sweet and fun concept, dropping the once nugu beloved hit "Daisy Dayz, " the title track from their second mini album of the same name. Daisy Dayz would manage to break into the top 100 but would only hit #89 once again not meeting expectations.
2017 — OH...THEY'RE TRYING SO HARD...
The boys stayed on a consistent release schedule shockingly enough. Ushering 2017 in with the floppiest single, "Sweat," which fans don't even remember, nor do they rarely bring up when discussions of their discography arise. It seems the hundreds of fans they did have were over their sweet concept despite most of the boys being teenagers at the time. Listening to fans, their first full album, Our Ocean, would have a more "mature" concept.
It became clear with this shift in sound and concept that the problem with DeepDive's lack of success hadn't to do with their music quality but with the fact the oldest member at this time would be barely 20 years old and the youngest, turning 16 that year. To put it bluntly, they looked silly singing these grown ass songs with their baby faces, and everyone saw it! Still, this didn't deter Angelico, and DeepDive would release another classic in their discography, "Bounce," which would gain traction amongst K-pop fans.
It's worth noting that the boys, primarily Noah and Finn, began producing the group's music during this time despite their young ages. Noah was just seventeen around the time of Bounce's release, while Finn was still 15.
Bling Bling would not receive the same amount of love Bounce did. In fact, Twitter would tear this song to shreds. Though hated at its release, it has become a beloved song in DeepDive's discography, notably being one of their most hyped songs to hear live. Fans blame Bling Bling for Angelico shipping DeepDive off to Japan the next year.
2018 — JAPANESE DEBUT (THE NUGU DEATH SENTENCE)
Desperate to make some money off this group, Angelico would give DeepDive a killer Japanese debut. "Ride or Die," would be a massive hit in Japan, securing DeepDive a strong and dedicated fandom in the country. This success would result in the group practically living in Japan for the rest of 2018. They were so famous in Japan, guys. Ride or Die was literally everywhere, they were on every variety show, they were performing concerts practically monthly at that point. They were finally reaching the success Angelico wanted with just one album.
So, of course, they released another banging album. "Burning Up" would be more successful than "Ride or Die," getting an English and Korean release due to its online success amongst international audiences. Becoming the face of K-pop in Japan, Sirens began to fear the boys would never come back to Korea which, honestly, a valid fear because they would release another Japanese album that year.
"Reaction" was a more controversial release but successful nonetheless. Nothing notable happened with this release.
The boys returned to Korea in December after spending 11 months in Japan. They released their second full Korean album, "Click Play," with the title track "Click." Due to their massive success in Japan, this release actually broke into the Top 50 on the Goan chart, a first for their career. Click would be a notable turning point for their career, seemingly starting their rise in Korea.
2019 — WE'RE PICKING UP STEAM NOW ...
Okay, so, Click's success wasn't enough to keep them in Korea long because the boys were back in Japan with an EP within two months. "Love Fire," is a deeply beloved title track by fans but nothing notable would occur during this promotional period except that fans feared they really were staying Japan for the rest of their career.
The last Japanese release would be "Your Love," another beloved song by Sirens. The song is one of their softer and cuter ones, as well as being the last release with member Woojin before he was removed from the group.
Desperate to come back with a bang, adding newest member Jacob Lee to the line up, the boys would touch down in South Korea and release "FIRE" a single that would grab the attention of the general public. FIRE is notable due to it selling 65,000 copies, the highest amount of sales they've ever reached as a group. DeepDive was becoming known at this point, being called "up and coming" or "on the rise" despite being well into their career at this point.
No Pressure would be released to much fanfare, finally fully catching the attention of international audiences, specifically those in America and Brazil. They say that once you're famous in Brazil, you're famous for life, and DeepDive was famous in Brazil! Still, they were just under the mark of making it in Korea, but just barely.
Then...
2020 — DASHI RUN, RUN, RUN OUT OF NUGUDOM !
NUGUDOM IS FINALLY OVER! THE BOYS MADE IT! RUN would be the song to break the glass ceiling, truly. Topped every chart, won them their first music show award, and won them a MAMA award––Baby, they were everywhere and the standard. DeepDive became the poster child of "Rags to Riches" and was soaking up every second of fame they could.
Refusing to be one-hit wonders, the boys came back swinging. "New Things" would become a viral hit as well, with every idol and their mother doing the choreography, which was created by Jisung. Another point that made DeepDive so unique is that they created everything they ever put out. Music, album designs, choreography, they used to edit their vlogs––They are those boys! Always have been! They were working their asses off for this type of success.
Call Out My Name was a moment. Everyone was talking about it. It was on the radio, it was on your timeline, it was winning awards, and covers of it were everywhere. You could not escape this song, but it's not like you wanted to because it's a banger through and through. It was clear these boys were going no where.
2021 — DAMN...THAT'S LOUD AS FU—
So, this era is interesting! Finn and Noah would take a break as the producers of DeepDive, leaving Jacob in charge for the first time.
Then...Sticker was born.
Sticker, as you can imagine, was highly controversial and is still being discussed to this day by K-pop stans. Due to it's controversy, yet success it was literally super successful, Finn would return as DeepDive's producer.
Still, the music from this time would be notably noisy and divisive, but they were from at a point in their career where it didn't matter what kind of music they released; they were topping the charts.
2022 — THEY'RE THOSE BOYS !
You'd brag, too, if you were in DeepDive! There's not much to say here except they were still topping charts, selling out arenas, hit over 50 million albums sold overall. They, again, could've released Finn banging spoons together and it would've been a hit but they weren't! At least not this year! They released hot girl music and went on their first worldwide tour with 120 dates! Great year for DeepDive!
2023 — GIRL, WTF JUST HAPPENED ?!
Then the storm hit! Flowerbank Entertainment scooped these boys up and basically tried to ruin their careers! They only had two releases this year and barely any promotions because Flowerbank sucks at their job and was sabotaging them.
Notably, Han would leave the group this year, and Woojin rejoined the group. Which is literally the only good thing to come out of this year.
2024 — OKAY, BACK ON TRACK !
And we're at the current day and they're killing it again!

Rolling Stones selected SHINee's Lucifer & TAEMIN'S MOVE in their TOP 100 Greatest Songs in KPOP history.
Tumblr media
After having a monster debut with “Replay,” SHINee established themselves as one of K-pop’s most respected boy groups for their boundary-pushing production and performance concepts. Their daring aesthetics are exemplified by the punchy electro-pop hit “Lucifer,” whose insistent chorus likens an angel-faced lover to the devil herself — not to mention a co-writing credit for a then-18-year-old Bebe Rexha. While its unison-sung refrain is immediately sticky, its verses and post-chorus allow each member to showcase the individual personalities that make SHINee such a commanding act. —M.J.
Tumblr media
Having already made an impact as the wunderkind of forward-thinking boy group SHINee, Taemin opened doors for androgynous expression in K-pop with his 2017 solo single, “Move.” Combining Eighties New Wave synths with sensual R&B melodies, the pulsating track captures delicately shifting dynamics between lovers. “Your elegant gestures/your subtle gaze,” he whisper-sings, building a sense of enigmatic seduction. These phrases were set to moves by choreographer Koharu Sugawara that are equally fluid; Taemin said his intention was to “[mix] both feminine and masculine movements together.” Though the song wasn’t a commercial smash, its genderless choreography became a sensation among idols and dancers, and it remains iconic for its alternative representation of sexuality. —M.H.K.

Gushing about BTS randomly (and rightfully)
Just watched the boracity magazine new upload. This one:
youtube
I kinda wished she would have dived deeper. But it just seemed like she was trying to convince people. Still, a good video, made some good points.
That's why I want to add some things-
BTS have proved the quality of music from the very start. While other kpop groups were formed by 'alloting' skills to members, bighit in 2011 was holding a friggin rap competition, hiphop battle style! Participants were teens who had written their own material, sometimes their own beats.
Not just authenticity of their roots, but also top tier music production. There are a lot of brave people who claim that bts music went into downfall after 2017/18. But say this to a music producer and they'll laugh in your face. Because BTS has constantly pushed boundries, bringing in foreign producers, keeping up with hiphop trends and constantly getting better with each release. Let's talk about BE album, shall we? "Dis-ease"? "Fly to my room?" "Telepathy"? Not a single song in this world that sounds like them. Levels of production and composition that kpop will take a decade to catch up to. And let's talk about "run bts", "for youth" and "yet to come". 3 bangers in their latest album. Hell, Run bts was even a viral tiktok trend. They have never once compromised or let me down with their releases.
Bts have collabs with artists like Anderson Pak. Name 1 kpop group who can pull this off?
Depth of lyrics, depth of concept, effort of production, added with willingness to perfect their performances. It will take a kpop group years to catch up to this level. And it's not possible unless their label allows them to write and compose their own songs, find the right audience and be authentic.
Kpoppies argue that bts fans don't want to explore other groups and somehow other groups have better songs? Gurrlll(gender neutral) please. I have infact heard most of bts contemporaries and even 2023 releases. Most music is just...trash? There are 1 or 2 songs from few other groups that are worth putting in my playlist but not their entire discography because they keep missing the mark.
Now let's talk about vocals shall we? While there are plenty of talented vocalists in kpop, they are not versatile. Everytime these vocalists do high notes they end up sounding like Korean ballads 😫. Can they try singing differently for once? Not to mention the forgettable voices and almost similar vocal textures in the entire group? Bts is the only group that gives 4 entirely different voices, versatility as well as wise distribution of lines. All 4 of them use their strengths and perform live. Even though 2 of them were not even singers to begin with, they have still managed to tremendously grow over the years.
So, no i won't be getting into other kpop groups because they don't hold my interest. If i like a song, I'll add it to my playlist. Let me know when they write their own song and have a completely unique concept THAT IS NOT JUST A VISUAL CONCEPT and a completely well produced album with effort put into each song.

❚❙❘    *   ﹙ AVOS : THE FULL DISCOGRAPHY ﹚  𝄒      ...
Tumblr media
created through the survival show, GENERATION: AVOS, the group made their official debut under APRICUS CULTURE on january 9, 2014 with a lineup of five members: sanghyuk, carter, ian, romeo, and hwaseong. their debut mini-album, blues of sentiments, was received well by both listeners and critics alike. marked by their unique participation in the writing & production of several songs on the record, avos began climbing the ranks of apricus' best-selling groups.
within the realm of avid kpop fans, avos garnered attention quickly, securing steady chart positions with each release during their first two years. the group would officially seize the attention of the korean general public through their highly successful 2016 entirely self-written mini-album, DEEP END. its title track, CALL ME, debuted at #1— their first track to do so— and remained there for a record-breaking six weeks. subsequently, avos gained the nickname 'golden group' as their success within the general population continued to rise exponentially.
after their 2017 release, HOLLYWOOD HILLS, was used in a viral trend on the app musical.ly, avos experienced an influx in western attention creating a demand for appearances and promotions abroad. capitalizing on their newly-found american success, apricus culture allowed avos to release the highly anticipated CAPSLOCK project, the group's only all-english record. the album peaked at #2 in the united states while achieving top spots on european, canadian, latin american, and australian charts. despite their massive western fandom— one distinct from the growing hallyu wave, the group announced they would be pursuing solo projects after the release of their sixth album, *HER in 2020.
their seventh album, LOVE/LOVED, marked their first whole group venture since the conclusion of their world tour in 2020. the album was celebrated with the creation of their own sub-label, STUDIO AVOS, to manage both the group and its members in all aspects.

international kpop fans not understanding why the first snow has been receiving so much attention in korea the past few winters is mostly due to the fact that they don't read korean comments and because they joined kpop in 2018 or later
the first snow, the xoxo album and even love me right receive so much attention by k-audiences because that period of exo is very nostalgic too many ppl.
many ppl who stream the song now, 10 years after release, were in middle or high school when it was first released. the song reminds them of a different time, when they were younger.
in that 2013-2015 period there was 1 super popular boygroup (among the young bgs) who got most of the attention, exo. (at the time exo's "competition" were the big seniors, not the ppl who debuted around the same time they did.)
(2016/2017 was the hight of EBS (exo, bangtan and seventeen).
if you read korean comments about the first snow, the xoxo album or love me right, you'll find many koreans who say "exo, my youth" and other things of that nature. the love that old and ex-exols in korea have for peter pan and don't go, is a love that doesn't exist to that degree among international exols (at least not for peter pan. international exols didn't speak too much about don't go in the first few years until it was performed with choreo during the exoluxion concert in 2015).
people newer to kpop love to joke that "exols are stuck in 2013" but trust me, it's old casual and ex kfans who keep that period of exo's career relevant. in the case of many international exols xoxo isn't even in their top 3 of exo albums.
exo at this point in their career also has quite a few fans who don't even know that period of exo.
the people streaming the first snow are a bunch of people who are very nostalgic.
the first snow isn't even in the top 5 of best winter songs exo has.
a few exo winter songs you should stream (in no particular order):
falling for you (it is such a happy sounding song, for life mini)
december 2014 (real music)
on the snow (another happy sounding song, bbh's head during the first live performance of it, chen has solo version of it on his channel, sing for you mini)
the entire universe album (the album sounds sad)
my turn to cry (the bridge and outro, so good; this is one of their best songs in general, miracles in december mini)

Hey , what do you think seven will be nominated under which category - kpop or pop in the year end intl awards ? (hope it gets nominated ) I hope it gets nominated under pop because it is totally in English and the song beats , melody are created for pop vibes . I hope it doesn't get nominated under kpop just because it is sung by a korean .
At Billboard, possibly the following:
Top New Artist Top Male Artist Top Streaming Artist Top Streaming Song (Audio) Billboard Chart Achievement (since 2015, fan-voted) Top Collaboration (since 2017, fan-voted)
I could see him getting an International Brit Nomination.
He might get some MTV Europe Music Awards noms too as Europe's a little more welcoming of outsiders, shall we say. Of those I can see possibly in a few of these:
Best Video Best Song Best New Act Biggest Fans Global Icon Best Collaboration Best Korean Act Best Asian Act Best Worldwide Act
As for GRAMMYs possibly:
Of the big awards, perhaps Song of the Year and Best New Artist, as well as possibly Best Pop Solo or Best Pop Duo/Group depending on how BH submits it.

I've been trying to hold my tongue and not jump to conclusions but this just takes the cake BPP.
twitter. com / chain_7_/status/1630439943750434816.
This is after Seulgi said she won't sing Hype Boy so she doesn't "get into trouble" and company execs unironically called themselves Pink Bloods. I'm just astounded that this is still happening in 2023. Have things really not improved since 2017?
The depths of hatred, cringe, and ignorance from adults who should truly know better makes me almost want to weep Jesus Christ. I've read about SM group stans filing petitions with the Blue House of Korea because BTS won a kpop award and thought those days of insanity were behind us, but it's still happening NOW. It's amazing to me how all the things you said about kpop cultures in different companies is playing out in front of my eyes. I thought you were lying or exaggerating and truthfully, I've seen questionable behavior in army fandom too, but to see this kind of rot, from the top of that company, down to the fans who just mirror that sick banal behavior, and then the idols caught in the middle who can't even dance along to a popular song trend out of fear of angering their fans AND company executives. We are in hell.
And the gall of these people to then turn around and try to police armys' behavior?? It's giving Trump and Republicans 2.0 istg BPP and I'm sorry for ranting about this again in your inbox but seeing them sending trucks to Hybe building when they sat on their hands for decades while LSM skinned that company and the idols dry angers me so much! Did armys do something years ago to justify this hatred? Did BTS do something in 2013 that explains this behavior? I really don't understand how even SM executives can act like kpop stans on Twitter. Can you please explain this to me BPP??
Honestly, I get armys' behavior now. SM stans are everywhere in kpop and if I was surrounded with that kind of madness, I'd give them that energy back as well.
No matter if Hybe gets that majority stake or not, the things they have exposed in SM just in the last few weeks has soured my mind towards so many things in kpop and this is me being 100000% honest.
Yes I'm that petty.
I think you ignored my last ask because I had no evidence but I've included the link now. Is there any history of something BTS did that justifies more than a decade of hate and vitriol from fans of SM artists towards Hybe and anything connected to BTS? Real question so pls answer BPP.
***
Hi Anon,
Your link.
I ignored your asks not because you didn’t include evidence Anon. I ignored it because I honestly think you’re getting sucked in way too deep and I’ve seen this all happen before. As people prone to ‘discourse’ are wont to do, you seem to be getting far more invested into matters over which you have zero control, while stoking your anger over how the system works. And while giving you an outlet here could make you feel better and rally likeminded people to your cause, I feel it’s a counterproductive exercise at best because that also just further entrenches animosity and makes the whole space just more toxic.
But I feel you won’t move on unless you get an audience, so here we are. To answer the questions you asked:
There is nothing BTS or ARMY did years ago to justify the hate from the rest of k-pop fandom and from SM corporate executives towards anything connected to them. Except disrupting the system to be massively successful despite often doing the opposite of what was expected for a k-pop group and fandom, and still leaving the rest of the competition in the dust. Funny thing is SM executives way back in 2014 actually offered to buy BTS from Bang PD because they saw in them what we all see now. Bang PD obviously refused, and k-pop stans kept doing what k-pop stans do, as did the industry. Now, ARMYs today (especially after the Burning Sun madness in 2019 and the Jungkook gay club witch-hunt in 2020) have unfortunately gotten as good as the typical k-pop stan in giving back the same energy as good as they get, as well as platforming solo or akgae-lite voices in the fandom, and the fandom culture suffers significantly as a result. But yes the fact is that the animosity and hate towards BTS started out as a purely one-sided affair, with BTS and ARMYs taking the brunt of that insanity for years, until the last four years or so when ARMYs had the numbers to overwhelm the hate.
The typical k-pop stan is filled with resentment towards anything concerning BTS because they feel the group and fandom deserves to have a reckoning that will humble them. It’s a hatred that will persist for as long as BTS is at the top of the k-pop hierarchy because the underlying belief driving that hatred is that BTS does not deserve their status as other groups or idols are more deserving of the recognition and achievements. It’s why most of the criticism around BTS is centred around comparisons to ‘better’ groups or idols that aren’t getting the same recognition BTS is (obviously), regardless of the context. Or criticism around how BTS and the fandom respond to the system they’re situated in.
It’s essentially competition. With none of the sportsmanship, no referee in sight, and a mass of people who care more about ranting day and night about groups and fandoms they hate, rather than developing a knowledge base of the music and art created (however imperfectly) in this space. And what typically happens when competition becomes toxic and supercharged, is that it becomes politics.
That’s why the dynamics you see play out in k-pop fandoms is more akin to the dysfunctional political system in the US, rather than what you see in the Premier League (though they have their fair share of politics too). The typical k-pop stan is looking for Collective Guilt towards the fandom they hate to justify their behaviour since by that logic, BTS, yourself, and me are responsible for perceived slights done by the fandom, to other k-pop idols those stans support.
It’s why a couple weeks ago, a fan of SM groups walked into my replies, disagreed with me about Jungkook, but started cussing out ARMYs and the tannies immediately. That’s the kind of logical leap you make when you hate the subject, understand next to nothing about the underlying context, view the entire fandom of at least 5 million people as a uniform bloc, but are spoiling for a fight anyway.
This behaviour is also influenced by how the wider culture is dealing with a breakdown in civic institutions and traditional remediation channels. It’s happening everywhere now, not just in k-pop fandoms, but the structures informing those behaviours in k-pop have been entrenched for a long time.
And so Anon, I read your asks on SM, Hybe, k-pop and BTS and saw you’re falling into the same thinking patterns and beginning to conflate things that have no business being viewed together. For example:
Yes Seulgi skipped covering Hype Boy, but she was unclear about her reasons and there is no reason for you to fill in the gaps for her. Yes SM executives are explicitly, even somewhat myopically, anti-HYBE because they’ve tied up their economic interests with Kakao based on what has been disclosed so far, but that doesn’t mean every SM idol is prevented from enjoying art made by HYBE artists. You’re right about the culture of older k-pop companies and the fandoms of groups under those companies, but it’s pointless losing sleep over it because those behaviours are structurally supported.
There is nothing special about the hate BTS and those who love the group face in k-pop spaces. That hate is a function of how the system has been structured since at least 2009. If there was another k-pop group that approached the industry the way BTS did, and fostered the relationship with their fandom the way BTS did with ARMYs, they’d be on top and they’d be just as hated.
If hate from k-pop stans is something that bothers you, I suggest you avoid ‘discourse’, spend less time in k-pop fandom spaces online and try to build more fandom connections offline with a focus on what you genuinely love about BTS. Keep this SM-HYBE deal and the rest of k-pop discourse related to it at arms length because you cannot influence the outcome, and HYBE can take care of itself. For one thing you shouldn’t think your interests are identical to HYBE’s, but even if you were concerned, from a purely business standpoint HYBE’s downside in this deal is limited because they already own a stake they can always monetize later.
Detach, detox, and focus on what you love instead. It will do you far more good than getting upset over how millions of people behave in a system established by 20 years of incentives and culture.

♡: Who is your favorite KPop group?
Top 3 because that's how I've done it since like 2019:
P1Harmony, Golden Child, & Got7
Previously though I used to really ult Nct Dream :’)
♡: Which member sparked your interest first?
hmm I might as well go in order:
Jinyoung was my potential Got7 bias for a short while because I didn't really know the members / who would be my bias
Sungyoon was already sparking my interest in Golden Child because my friend shared content about him a lot
Keeho was one of the first members I knew in Piwon (shocking, I know..), but I was already interested because of his vocal tone at the time
♡: Who was your first bias?
Youngjae, Sungyoon, Theo
♡: Who is your current bias?
... Youngjae, Sungyoon, Theo hahaha
♡: What makes them your current bias?
There are a few different reasons for each one of my biases, but at the same time they have some commonalities...
All main vocals, all sentimental and loving in their own ways, and I know we don't know our idols obviously but they do feel very genuine (all my opinion ofc)
also yes I am in love with Theo if that isn't obvious
♡: Who is your bias wrecker?
So... I don't actually have bias wreckers, but I tend to have a secondary bias lmao
Got7: Mark Tuan
Golden Child: Everyone else but currently it's Donghyun
P1Harmony: Jiung has recently become my 2nd bias <3
♡: Which member (s) are you currently obsessing over that aren’t your bias/bias wrecker?
I can only answer for Golden Child because Sungyoon is in the military lmao TT
Donghyun getting to step up and have some more vocal lines, even got a musical relatively recently. Not just a main dancer, he's a really good vocalist and it's really nice to see him be able to take on more.
Youngtaek (Tag) is one of the rappers/is a producer of Golden Child, his lyricism and sentimentality blows me away. He's only actually produced like 2 songs that made it into the albums though :/
Bomin... the absolutely lovable maknae... He's a really amazing actor and also really cute (if you don't like the maknaes then what is wrong with you tbh, i say jokingly)
@ Woollim do better tbh
♡: When did you first discover this group?
Got7: lol I used to be a bts fan from 2017 to about end of 2018, since RM was friends with Jackson and I watched them interact together, I thought I would check Got7 out
Golden Child: They're infinite's little brother group, I had to at least check them out
P1Harmony: I believe one of my friends told me about their debut, & I loved Siren, but it took me until about Back Down to decide that hey, actually maybe I will get into this group lmao
♡: Have you ever been to one of their concerts?
Got7 3x & begging Youngjae to come here before he enlists too ;;
Golden Child fanmeet concert 2x
P1Harmony... I will see them this coming year, but I did see them in LA for Jingle Ball
the cons of living in this country: bad for my wallet
♡: What are some of your favorite songs by the group?
oh boy uhhhh
Got7: Home Run, Not By the Moon, Last Piece, Enough, Shining on You, Hey, Fly
Golden Child: Wannabe, Knocking On My Door, Feel Me, Fanfare, OMG, Let Me actually how do I include their whole discography here lmao
P1Harmony: End It, Countdown to Love, Doom Du Doom, Nemonade, BFF, Bop, If You Call Me... stopping here just so I don't list all of the new album either lmao
tagging: whoever wants to do this!

it's long I'm sorry but your fault for telling me to share the story 🙄🥰
I don't know how much you know about k-roleplay but it's the most embarrassing part of my life
krp is basically a community with extremely delusional kpop fans role playing as idols. I had just gotten instagram (2013, I was 13) and I randomly met a girl there and we became friends. she told me to download Line (a messenger app) and she added me to a group when I did. the group members had names and pics of idols and were talking as if they're them. I was an actual child (on top of that, I was extremely childish) so I went along
years passed, I dated girls that role played as guys, got cheated on several times, got my heart broken, found out heartbreak is an actual physical pain, cried, laughed, made one real friend (we're still long distance besties, sisters by heart, after 10 years) THEN I was done with it
I was an army since their debut, back when every kpop fan was bullied. until 2017 when I stopped. it was difficult bcs I was in a really bad state (mentally) and their songs helped me a lot
I thought I'd need a closure of some kind, so I went on kakaotalk and texted so many bts roleplayers. they mostly didn't answer. the conversation didn't go on with the ones that responded. but there was this one person... I genuinely enjoyed talking to them
it was around May, 2017, when we started talking. in September, I had caught feelings for that person. I didn't know their gender, age, etc. but I liked them and we were cutesy flirting
it went on like that. it was a Japanese guy 4 years older than me. he confessed to liking me on his bday (July 23rd, 1996) when I wrote something heartfelt for him on wattpad
we were a couple after that. I was in love. I don't wanna talk about the relationship. all I can say is that it became toxic after some time. some said I was groomed since I was 17 (just graduated from high school) and he was 21 (a working adult)
he broke up with me on February 2nd, 2021 and I took until 2023 to fully move on from him
he completely disappeared from my life. he texted me one time, days after my bday, to congratulate me. my prideful show off narcissistic ass BEGGED HIM to let me love him even if he hated me
for over 2 years, he was my only thought. he was the first guy I loved, trusted, shared my secrets and insecurities with. I was there when he lost a family member, I was there when he lost the dog he grew up loving, I was there when his sister got married and had her daughter, I was there when he did awful things to himself. but apparently all those things didn't mean shit to him
yk how you'd just assume chan stans are nice bcs chan is nice? I stupidly assumed something similar
his bias was hobi...
Okay wow. A few things:
I've been a kpop fan since 2009 and somehow didn't know k-rp was a thing (glad)
You were definitely groomed and I'm so sorry you had to go through that, I've been through similar and it's literally so confusing and gut wrenching.
Hobi would fucking hate that man and would absolutely never even entertain the thought of doing something like that. That "man" doesn't deserve to bias Hoseok.
if he ever tries to weasel his way back into your life... I'll kill him ☺️🔪

Happy Donghae Day!
2011 | 2012 | 2013 | 2014 | 2015 | 2016 | 2017 | 2018 | 2019 | 2020 | 2021 | 2022
Well, we’ve made it through another year and it’s time for Donghae Day! To be quite honest, I don’t know that I thought I’d still be such a big kpop fan in the year 2023 - I’m not sure I was even thinking about 2023 when I became a kpop fan back in 2011. Sometimes it’s hard to believe that 12 years have passed and then other times it seems it went by in a flash. But here we are - on the 12th annual Donghae Day!
For those (very few) of you who are new - October 12, 2011 was the day I learned about kpop. I’ve been celebrating this day in various ways since then. Prior to 2016 (when I was working 2 jobs), I usually went out to dinner with friends or treated myself to something nice. Since I started my full time job in 2016 (!) I’ve taken the day off almost every year (except 2020) if I was working. And this year is no exception! I don’t have any real big plans, except to go to H Mart and maybe Trader Joes. My life is so exciting, I know.
But that’s been the theme of the past few Donghae Days, ever since the pandemic took over our lives. I am one of the few people who still doesn’t go out (I haven’t really been sick since 2019) and see people that often, though I am seeing people, so I am not a complete shut-in. But Donghae Day isn’t to talk about these bad things (and god, there have been so many this year since the entire world is on fire). Instead, it is to talk about things that are good and happy - because those do exist.
Most every day (unless I’m off visiting my dad), I fire up my watch later and listen to the most recent releases (kpop and others). There’s a lot of great music out there and finding it and consuming it makes me happy, as does sharing it. That’s why I still do my song-a-day playlists! Every day since Kpoptober 2020, I’ve been posting one song a day and it’s still going. My first kpoptober was 2019 and I’d originally meant to just post in October, but after the pandemic, I decided I wanted to share music every day, so here we are. It’s a true labor of love, since all the tracks I post are ones I like (and sometimes adore). You can find links to all of the playlists (YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music) by year here:
song-a-day playlists
Tumblr media
Also in 2023 (some sad stuff happened: Moonbin, I miss you) - there were new groups that debuted and others that had comebacks, but for me there were a few specific comebacks that made me really happy:
Teen Top
Infinite
EXO
ONF
It’s hard to explain, but I don’t know that I thought either Teen Top or Infinite would ever come back, in spite of the fact that neither group had ever mentioned they were disbanded. Both of those releases were great and I am so happy they’re still making music. EXO coming back was also quite a shock (especially considering all the drama surrounding them and their contracts). However, their release was enjoyable as well (and in the process, my favorite members changed again - don’t ask or maybe do). And, of course, the rest of of ONF returned from the military - what a delight! Their release was also wonderful (and I think their albums might arrive today, which how perfect!) and as great as their previous ones. And while, sure there are plenty of other groups who’ve come back with great release this year (Just B, I’m looking at you), these four really meant a lot to me.
Tumblr media
Over the past year it’s not just music that I’ve been consuming. I’ve made my return to watching kdramas and watched a couple of Chinese dramas as well. This year (2023) I’ve watched (and finished) 6 dramas (see them here), not as many (yet) as 2021, but more than 2022 (when I watched none). I’ve also been watching a lot of anime, both with the (virtual) anime club I am a member of and on my own, which has been a lot of fun. I’m reading more and have found my way back to Animal Crossing again, which has been a lot of fun.
But the real thing that keeps me going are my friends and family. Donghae Day only exists because my journey as a kpop fan hasn’t been alone. I have made so many wonderful friends, some have come into and gone from my life, but many others are still here. Not all are connected by kpop, some are people I’ve known for years (online and off), others I’ve only gotten close to recently and still others I've known only through places like Discord. I am forever grateful to these people, close friends and acquaintances alike. They have made my life a better place and I hope that I’ve done the same for them, even in just the tiniest of possible ways.
If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading! And if this is your 12th post or even your first, thank you for joining me on this journey, whatever form it may take. I hope to see you in 2024!

So Many Comebacks. So Little Time
IKON: You know what. I am really looking forward to the Robert comeback tomorrow. The teasers and imagery have such a strong sense of identity and intention in them. I miss him and his music in my life. It's really nice to see him still working and in the scene. I'm also really happy to see June getting acting and OST jobs because he will always be in my Top 10 Kpop Male Vocalist lists.
To round up the Ikon related content, Hanbin will be releasing his album in November 2023. '4 Letters' is a pre-release and after all is said and done, his talent for emotive pop writing is undeniable tbh. Even his mid and 5/10 songs are still good. Illa Illa was 2 years ago and it still loops in my head from time to time. I don't know how this btch does it.
The TXT "Freefall" musical preview just reiterates everything I already knew about TXT: Beomgyu is ALWAYS right (Always!), the less people involved the better is it and they are good performers. I forgot that they worked with Ryan Tedder and only got a meh pop song out of it. What a shame because this is the same man who wrote Halo, Already Gone, Apologize and Stop And Stare, amongst like 100 others.
The IVE comeback program so far has been really lackluster. They really seem to be leaning into that low-fi New Jeans sound (like so many groups) and whilst it is quite pleasant, none of it hits like their previous releases. Here's hoping they're saving the best for last but with a title like, 'Baddie', it better be the pop song of the year to justify that cringey title. Oh who am I kidding? I will probably love it.
NCT 127 are releasing too many things to keep track of. 'Fact Check' is actually really fun. It sounds like a 1990s rave and I mean that in a complimentary way. Even if its weird, there is always something to enjoy with NCT. That being said, the SM NCT formula has barely changed since 2017.
I know SKZ are coming. But I also don't know anything about it. Which might be a good thing.
I hope Ateez won't have a comeback for awhile. I'm so tired and studying lore is a game for the youths. Alice In Wonderland was drug sponsored nonsense literature. Don't make me revisit it, Hongjoong.
