Located in the dense forests of the sub-Himalayan belt and eastern border of Uttar Pradesh, is the majestic Dudhwa National park that is known to accommodate some of the most endangered wildlife species, both in plants and animals. It covers the entire regions of Kheri and Lakhimpur districts of U.P. which falls under the Theri belt in the sub-tropical range of Himalayas (you had been probably thinking by now that, it’s like sitting right in the snowy Himalayas but it’s not, it is beautiful in its own way. FYI, not everything is about hills)

Dudhwa wildlife sanctuary is the expanded version of Dudhwa Tiger Reserve that was established in 1879. Since then, it has grown into a land reserve of more than 993km/ per square. It not only offers deep forests and marshy green lands but also freshwater lakes, river streams, brooks and amazing sightseeing bunkers. Over time it has developed into a best national park, where adventure knows no limit, either with friends or family (lonely and sad people are advised to visit Dudhwa national park immediately as it will definitely keep their spirits high and will eventually realize that something in life is worth living also)

How should you reach Dudhwa?

Well, that’s an interesting question for someone who was not even aware of such a place. No problem, every cloud has a grey lining. (I know it’s a silver lining, stop correcting me)

There are 3 ways to reach Dudhwa but not directly (Until and unless you know how to fly then it might be the fourth way around):

By Airplane

The nearest airport to the Dudhwa national park is the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, which is 191kms from the park. (In case you were thinking, there might be an airport inside the sanctuary)

By Train

There are 3 railway stations through which you can reach the park one is Dudhwa Railway station, second is Palia and the third is Mailani station. Till here you can board the train and then a local transport would be more than happy to take you there.

By Road

Well, by road there is no obstruction, till where you can reach. You can start from your home and can reach Dudhwa by road. (I cannot guarantee the pathetic road condition of India).

The thing to be noted here is that you will not be allowed to take your personal vehicle inside the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve because then you will be taken in the safaris, approved by the government of India. (Even if your “Chacha is Vidhayak”)

Where should you stay at Dudhawa National Park?

Dudhawa region is the mix of 2 other large national wildlife reserves, that is Katerniaghet wildlife sanctuary and Kishanpur Wildlife sanctuary which is home to some splendid scenic routes and marshy plains. As I mentioned earlier it would not be possible for you to cover the entire Dudhwa national park in a day or two because it will consume at least 3 days to even cover up a significant part of the reserve, given that you will camp in different regions of the forest area.

Since we are not living anymore in the 20th century, there has been increasing in the resorts and hotels nearby the area which is enlisted online on trivago, make my trip or trip advisor. Other than this if by accident you happen to open the official website of the Dudhwa National Park then you can also find the listed resorts that are approved by the government of India and also the government lodge, available for stay and camping.

What are the best attractions in Dudhwa Reserve?

There is an endless list of attractions inside the Dudhwa Wildlife Sanctuary that you could probably never see in your this life. Though, there are enough to keep you naturally intoxicated for a while.

List of all the attractions and things worth watching:

Coming this far and not spotting the tiger is going to be an utter waste of your time. So, prior to anything clear your schedule for tiger reserve.

Boat safari at Kataraniaghat sanctuary is another thing that should be on your Dudhwa reserve bucket list. The sight of incredible scenic beauty while going through the dense canopy of Dudhwa tiger reserve is something very rare. (Pro tip: do not dip your hand in the lake, alligators are also prominent in the area.)

Elephant safari is another way of exploring the less seen part of the jungle. If you are lucky you may spot the herd of endangered Barasingha with 12 headlocks or swamped deer.

While exploring all the flora and fauna you might want to know the local tribe or people that have been residing in the area for so long. That is why you should visit the Manduk Mandir or you can say Frog temple. It is a lord Shiva temple and known to be timeless old in architecture. Other than that you can hire a local guide and meet the Tharu Tribe that lives on the sugarcane vegetation mainly. Their culture is quite unique.

Kishanpur wildlife sanctuary is another sanctuary inside Dudhwa, where you can spot wild boar, leopards, migrated birds, alligators and pythons. There is also one lake called Jhadi Tal that witnesses the sight of never before seen birds species. It would be worth your time and money both.

Shiv Temple Devkali is a famous temple among the locals as well as for tourists because it said that King Janmejay, the son of King Parikshit who was the last successor of Arjuna the fierce Mahabharata warrior and a Pandu, used to worship here. He did Naga Yagya so no snake could enter the area and even today it is prevalent even though the temple is for Lord Shiva. There are lots of other interesting folklores to listen to.

Naseeruddin Memorial Hall is another ancient piece of history that needs to be visited. Located in the Lakhimpur district only, it is a nice ancient memorial architecture to see and explore what is inside. Naseeruddin was a freedom fighter and was a major figure in the Khilafat movement.

Surprisingly there is a place called Sharda Barrage which is a dam situated on the Sharda river and located at a very reasonable distance from Dudhwa reserve in Lakhimpur-Kheri. It is a 136 km expanded range of national parks and a blissful place to relax. You can also enjoy some water sports.

I guess I have curated more than enough places for you to explore that will keep you busy for more than 3 days. You can know the location of these places easily because the state government has marked the areas and their routes everywhere. You can also opt for google maps for navigation. Although, the native people are very friendly and will help you in every way possible. (Not like Wasseypur U.P people, yelling always)

What else can be done while you are at Dudhwa National Park?

After exhausting all the suggestions and probably all your energy, if you still want to proceed a little farther for a good adventure then you can always go to NEPAL or Baria Wildlife Sanctuary which is the extended part of Dudhwa reserve. Also, Nepal is just 25 km away from Dudhwa and you do not need a passport to cross the border.

Hence, you know Nepal is famous for its rich biodiversity and sanctuaries. (If you will say you want to go even farther, then for god’s sake go to Mt.Everest, and jump off the cliff.)

What is the best time to visit Dudhwa?

The best time to visit would be in winter, from November to March. It will be a cool climate and sometimes even below 0 degrees as well when you enter the dense forests.

The summer season is also not that bad but the temperature can rise sometimes to 40 degrees Celsius and may cause dehydration. So, it is better to visit Dudhwa National park in winter.

Also, because maximum migratory bird species come to live here in the winters, so you do not want to miss that sight.

Andaman Nicobar Travel Guide

Andaman and Nicobar [1] are a large group of nearly 600 islands in the Bay of Bengal. Though they are a part of India politically, they are closer to Myanmar and Thailand than to the Indian mainland. They are grouped here with Southern India. They were just north of the epicenter of the Boxing Day quake of 2004, and were the site of dozens of aftershocks. The Nicobars were badly hit by the resulting tsunami, while the Andamans escaped with a few bruises. With the exception of Little Andaman Island and the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park, the rest of the tourist destinations are operating normally again.

Cities

Diglipur – take a road trip to the far north of the island chain, a base for visits to nearby Ross and Smith Islands.

Port Blair – the laid-back capital of the Andamans and the sole entry/exit point. Spend a day or two here walking around and enjoying fresh seafood and seeing a couple of the nearby sites.

Total journey is long and you need to start the trip as early as 4 AM. Road condition is not very good. The boat charge from Baratang to limestone cave is 1000/- per passenger. Vehicle cost will be anywhere from 5000 – 6000 Rupees. Barren Island, an island with the only volcano in all of India. Private Boats are available to visit Barren Island, however, the cost of the trip will increase. You are not allowed to stay at Barren Island as per government regulation. Havelock Island, the most visited of the islands, with the most (although still minimal) infrastructure. Beautiful beaches, great snorkeling and scuba diving. Jolly Buoy Island, a small island, is a part of the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park. It is undoubtedly the best place for snorkeling with its extremely clear waters and a rich and diverse marine life. Unfortunately, snorkeling is currently banned (January 2020) so you can either pay for a glass bottom boat tour (an extra Rs. 300-1000 depending on how long you go for) or swim in the small sectioned off area. It has a small beach with thatched huts and the location is quiet scenic. To reach here, one has to first go to Wandoor and then take a jetty from there. Taxi costs Rs. 1800 for a private car that will take you to the jetty and return you back to Port Blair. Prior to going, one has to get the permission from the forest department office at Port Blair, charge is Rs 100/- per head for locals and Rs 1000/- for foreigners. Boat charge is 850/- per head. Jolly Buoy is open from November to May. Little Andaman, once popular for surfing, it was devastated in the 2004 tsunami. Ask around in Port Blair to find out the current situation. Lohabarrack Crocodile Sanctuary Long Island, great if you’re looking for Robinson Crusoe style camping. You can bring all of your own gear and food but there is new establishment called Blue Planet with decent huts and foods. This is the only resort in the island as of January 2015. Neil Island, quieter than Havelock with nice beaches and decent snorkeling. Rutland Island, is pristine, non-polluted and least visited island. Beautiful Mangrove forest and coral reefs welcomes you to the 274 sq.km island. There is also a 45 acre Totani Resort which has quaint little huts which can be used as a base camp for exploring the island. It is the ideal place for eco-tourists. Wandoor, a relaxed destination in its own right, but known more as the gateway to the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park. There is a newly setup luxury resort called Sea Princess Beach Resort. Easily reached, and near the Wandoor jetty is Anugama Resort, the newest property there. This location is far from the main city Mid-January until mid-May sees the best weather, and often the best diving conditions. The days are mostly sunny at this time of year, and the sea sometimes flat enough to reflect the clouds. The monsoon usually hits around late May, lasting until the end of July, and is probably the worst time to visit the islands – strong winds, frequent rain and low visibility underwater. August through November some occasional showers and slightly rougher seas are possible but diving can still be great at this time of year. The weather often takes a turn for the worse for the month of December through early January. Andaman has a moderate temperature all through the year within the range of 23 degrees to 31 degree celsius. It has tropical climate, there are no severe climate conditions except for tropical storms and rains in late Summer and Monsoon. By planeAndaman’s airport is at Port Blair. it’s connected to Chennai, Kolkata and other cities in the country. Air India is the most important carrier for Andaman. Throughout the seasons discounted airfares also are provided by the airlines. The price of the tickets is usually cheap, particularly if reserved earlier.The only way to reach

Price varies significantly with date, so if your travel dates aren’t fixed, you can save significantly by choosing the right day to fly. Advance booking (available on respective airline’s website) at least several days before trip is recommended.Port Blair’s Vir Savarkar Airport is probably one of the most quaint and idyllic airports in India. There is a scenic view point where the whole airport can be seen. There are no night flights as the airport is handed over to the Indian Air Force after 3pm.By seaIt is possible to take a ship from Kolkata (~60 hrs), Chennai or Visakhapatnam which takes almost 4 days to arrive in Port Blair. It is less expensive. Facilities are basic, though and many prefer to sleep on the deck rather than in the cramped bunks. South Cinque Island is another possibility, enquire at Anugama Resort at Wandoor. The best dive sites in the Andamans are in very remote locations and accessible via a liveaboard. The dive sites around Havelock are actually very ordinary by Andamans standards. Its brand new & fully equipped, though a little expensive but well worth the money for the comfort & adventure.Sea Walking[5] A major activity conducted both in North Bay Island, Port Blair and Elephant Beach, Havelock Island. You will need a boat to reach North Bay at Port Blair and Elephant Beach at Havelock Island to avail this activity. This activity is more like moonwalking. The cost of the trip is 3500 Rupees per person. Snorkeling – A traditional attraction of the Andamans but the 2010 El Niño sadly resulted in the destruction of most of the coral. As at 2016, there are signs of recovery but the snorkeling is not good.

Regardless, the best spots are North Bay, Mua Terra Beach and Havelock Island. Equipment is cheap, and can be bought or rented at North Bay for 100 Rs. The price for Snorkeling at various locations is about 500 Rs (for ~15 min.) and 1000 Rs (for ~25 min.). Surfing is great on Little Andaman Island Scan corals reefs in glass bottom boats off Jolly Buoy Island, at the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park at Wandoor, 29 km from Port Blair. Check out India’s only active volcano on Barren Island, for some magnificent volcanic diving Take the Andaman Trunk Road, and be the zipping-in-the-car-idiot to the curious Jarawas. The ride is long, but the journey that takes you through some gorgeous reserve forests and up to Maya Bunder and beyond, is worth it. Revisit Havelock just to taste the red Snapper in Burmese garlic sauce at Benny and Lynda’s Wild Orchid Beach Resort. Narcondam Island a dormant volcano is spectacular volcanic diving Make a new list. Add scuba diving and sea cow spotting. Do some moon-bathing while planktons swim in a phosphorescent sea. Eat 📷 Tandoori fish at Lighthouse Residency, Port BlairSeafood is the order of the day. From upscale restaurants in Port Blair to local dhabas on Havelock, fish abounds. Be prepared to pay a little more for good fish and seafood dishes than for standard Indian food, but it’s well worth it. Basic Indian food is also available, and as cheap as on the mainland in most of the small dhabas. Resort restaurants on Havelock can also whip up a limited set of more or less Western dishes, but the resort restaurants are pretty expensive for Indian standards. Dal Lake Shikara

Dal Lake, most populated tourist attraction in Srinagar, is renowned for its house boats and Shikaras. Dal Lake appeared and still continues to appear as a subject matter of many poems and articles.

The wonderful scenic lake extending an area of 26 square meters has been partitioned in to four areas by four causeways. Western part of the lake is enchanting with many Islands attracting tourists with its serenity and solitude. The lake is a hub for many water sports including water surfing, swimming, Shikara riding, kayaking, house boating, angling and canoeing. Adventurous tourists as well as the tourists looking for cool, natural secluded atmosphere can venture to this natural wonder.

Attractions

Nagin Lake

Nagin Lake, though sometimes referred to as a separate lake, is actually part of Dal Lake, being linked through a causeway which permits only bikers and walkers to enter the lake precincts. The caseway carries the water supply pipeline to the Srinagar city in the east. The lake is bounded by the Shankaracharya hill on the south and Hari Parbat on the west and is located at the foot of the Zabarwan hills. Willow and poplar trees flank the edges of the lake.

Chashme Shahi

Cheshme Shahi Srinagar

Chashme Shahi, meaning “Royal Spring”, is a fresh water spring and garden known for its medicinal properties. Its source located above the Nehru Memorial Park. It is the smallest of all the Mughal gardens in Srinagar, measuring 108 metres (354 ft) x 38 metres (125 ft) and it has three terraces, an aqueduct, waterfalls and fountains.

Shankaracharya Temple

The sacred Shankaracharya temple, also known as Jyeshteswara, occupies the top of the hills (about 1,000 feet (300 m) above the surrounding Takht-I-Sulaiman plains in the south-east of Srinagar. The site, initially named Gopadri, dates back to 250 BC as a Buddhist monument, probably built by Emperor Ashoka’s son Jhaloka. In the 7th century it was replaced by the present temple by King Lalitaditya. The philosopher Shankaracharya is documented as having stayed at this place when he visited Kashmir ten centuries ago to revive Sanātana Dharma.

Hari Parbat, also known as the Mughal fort, is a hill fort on Sharika hill that provides panoramic views of the Srinagar city and the Dal Lake. It was first established by Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1590. However, he only erected the outer wall of the fort and his plans to build a new capital called Naga Nagor within it did not materialise. The fort in its current state was built much later in 1808 under the reign of Shuja Shah Durrani. Within the fort’s precincts are temples, Muslim shrines, and a sikh Gurudwara. The hill is the subject of many legends in Hindu mythology, and was said to have once been a large sea, inhabited by a demon known as Jalobhava and that the hill grew from a pebble.

Houseboats and the Dal Lake are widely associated with Srinigar and are nicknamed “floating palaces”, built according to British customs. The houseboats are generally made from local cedar-wood and measure 24–38 metres (79–125 ft) in length and 3–6 metres (9.8–20 ft) in width and are graded in a similar fashion to hotels according to level of comfort.[35] Many of them have lavishly furnished rooms, with verandas and a terrace to serve as a sun-deck or to serve evening cocktails. They are mainly moored along the western periphery of the lake, close to the lakeside boulevard in the vicinity of the Dal gate and on small islands in the lake. They are anchored individually, with interconnecting bridges providing access from one boat to the other. The kitchen-boat is annexed to the main houseboat, which also serves as residence of the boatkeeper and his family.

Hazratbal Shrine

The Hazratbal Shrine also named Hazratbal, Assar-e-Sharief is a Muslim shrine situated on the left bank of the Dal Lake and is considered to be Kashmir’s holiest Muslim shrine.It contains a relic believed by many Kashmiri Muslims to be the Moi-e-Muqqadas, a hair from the head of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. According to legend, the relic was first brought to India by Syed Abdullah, a descendant of Muhammad who left Medina and settled in Bijapur, near Hyderabad in 1635. When Syed Abdullah died, his son, Syed Hamid, inherited the relic. Following the Mughal conquest of the region, Syed Hamid was stripped of his family estates. Finding himself unable to care for the relic, he gave it as the most precious gift to his close Mureed and a wealthy Kashmiri businessman, Khwaja Nur-ud-Din Ishbari.

By Air Srinagar domestic airport is connected with many airports in major cities in India. Regular flights are operated between Srinagar and Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh and Shimla. International travelers get the connecting flights from Delhi International airport, which is at a distance of 876 km from Srinagar. By Train Jammu is the nearest railway station to Srinagar, which is at a distance of 290 km. Jammu railway station is well connected to all major cities in India by rail. Direct train services are available from Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore and Trivandrum. Taxi services are available from Jammu to Srinagar and the fare is about Rs 6000

By Bus

Many tourist bus service providers arrange deluxe luxurious bus package tours from many neighboring cities to Srinagar. Srinagar is well connected to Chnadigarh (630 km), Jammu (290 km), Delhi (876 km), Leh (434 km) and Phalgan (96 km) by tourist bus services. Packaged tours charge about Rs 4 – Rs 5 per km.

Climate

Srinagar has only two climates, a pleasant summers and a very chilly, freezing winters. Rainfalls are very scanty here. Summers are from April to September with a maximum temperature of 33°C and a minimum well below 10°C. October to March accounts for winters with minimum consistently well below 0°C and maximum only about 15°C. Winters are associated with heavy snowfalls.
