Goodbye Car...

Cycling had become my primary means of transportation. While I was sleeping in my office and cycling most everywhere, I still had a car that I used once or sometimes twice a week. It was just sitting at the park and ride(I alternated which park & ride). I could not afford to drive and maintain my vehicle plus it was really difficult to keep moving it around and park at different locations. Sometimes I would forget where I parked my car and cycle 20 minutes to go get it to find that I went to the wrong place.

I needed cash badly to put a band aid on a nearly severed limb. The timing was not optimal because we were still closing the dojo and moving stuff to the Concord Dojo and to donation locations. In my mind it did not matter and I would find a solution later. I sold the car for $700 and saved on gas, tolls, parking, maintenance and etc which was helpful.

In a sense it was a relief but then came some struggle.... The struggle in figuring out how to logistically make my active life work in a state that hates all alternative forms of transportation...

For someone who gets invited to multiple events every day of each week across the whole state of NH, there would be some big challenges. Getting around for opportunities, panels, speaking engagements, learning, volunteering and etc in places like Nashua, Keene, Portsmouth, North Conway, Berlin and etc would be really difficult to figure out. Or I would just have to avoid all things outside of the Concord and Manchester area... As always, I told myself, “You will figure it out”.
