THE QUEEN CITY OF THE SOUTH
WELCOME TO CEBU!!!
THE QUEEN CITY OF THE SOUTH
Cebu City is the oldest and one of the largest City in the Philippines, located on Cebu Island’s eastern coast. It is protected by offshore Mactan Island and by the inland Cordillera Central. it is also one of its most historic and retains much of the flavor of its long Spanish heritage. A thriving port occupied the site when Ferdinand Magellan, the Portuguese navigator and explorer, landed there on April 7, 1521. Cebu is also known as “The Queen City of the South”.
Cebu Island and more than 150 smaller surrounding islands and islets. Its prosperous port capital, Cebu City, retains landmarks from its 16th-century Spanish colonial past. Cebu have plenty of famous tourist destination that is the reason why the tourist keeps’ coming back. This is one of the highlights of Cebu, the treasure that represents the uniqueness of Cebu City.
What are the Famous Tourist Destinations in the Queen City of South?
Simala Shrine
Let’s start to the Simala Parish Church as a Roman Catholic church dedicated to the Virgin Mary in Sibonga, Cebu, Philippines. According to Frenchy (2022),
"This place is so beautiful and sacred and breathtaking! It is like a castle and I love it!!!”. Simala is like the hotspot for miracle, and the Virgin Mary is the main lady there. It is a perfect spot Catholic devotees who want to ask for divine intervention. These miraculous testimonies prove that Simala can work wonders for those who believe (sunstar).
2. Oslob Whale Shark
The other side of the island is where you can experience swimming with the Oslob Whale Sharks, locally known as the “Tuki” (TravelCebu).
Moreover, Oslob Municipality is known for old churches and beautiful beaches but became more popular because of the gentle giants- the Whale Sharks. Furthermore, this destination is one of the tops in the bucket lists of tourists who visit Cebu because of the rare experience. However, if you encounter with the whale shark, it is not allowed to touch them.
3. Casa Gorordo Museum
This house-turned-museum is where the first Cebuano bishop, Juan Gorordo resided. Originally built during the 1800s, a Spanish businessman Juan Isidro de Gorordo purchased the house.
Due to Ramon Aboitiz Foundation’s Cultural Heritage Program, Casa Gorordo became a museum in 1980. The museum depicts Philippine culture between 1800s to 1900s.
4.Sirao Flower Garde
Heading to the more elevated spot is in the Busay area which is the Sirao Flower Garden. Going there is like experiencing the Netherlands, thus this tourist attraction is commonly called, “The Little Amsterdam”.
The array of celosia (or ‘Burlas’ by locals) flowers in flaring red, purple, yellow, orange makes it Amsterdam-ish. The put-up windmill and the cool wind complement the scenic view. Hence, this gives the guests the unique, touristy feel.
5.Magellan’s Cross
King of Spain Charles 1 chose navigator Ferdinand Magellan to look for the “Spice Islands”. In doing so, Magellan was able to cross the globe and eventually landed in the Philippines in 1521. Specifically, he made his step in Cebu on March 15, 1521.
Magellan presented Christianity to Cebuanos, and most of them embraced the religion. In this site is where Magellan planted the Cross (which symbolizes Christianity) on April 21, 1521. An encasement protects the original Magellan’s cross.

"Isang-daang Libong Rosas"
Sa gabi ay mayroon paring liwanag. May kapayapaan sa kadiliman at katahimikan. May kagandahan sa liwanag ng dilim.
Cordova, Cebu

"Kalangitan at Kapayapaan"
Cebu City, Philippines
