Leaving on a jet plane... LAX or Heathrow? I honestly can’t remember if I was coming or going. With those skies, I’m going with Los Angeles. I have a very specific travel routine when I get on an international flight. What is yours?
God, I MISS TRAVELING! First place you’ll go when this is over?

Routine. Newly finished Union Station. Power of the network.
Now that weeks of travel have gone by and I have had a few lessons along the way(experienced, observed and recommended change), there is somewhat of a routine. The day of travel consists of doing a small amount of exploring(very brief), then there is a coffee shop visit where I reach out to my networks of friends for introductions in the new city, grocery shopping for the train ride, conversation with the next kind host, packing everything into one pack, charge up the phone, give out hugs to friends, take the light rail into the city, drop thank you cards in the mail and hangout in the station until it is time to go. It is sort of weird that I have a routine now for the adventure but it is starting to become easier. I am feeling better prepared when the itch to travel to the next place starts.
You keep hearing from me that Denver is growing, expanding and changing rapidly. My last trip here in July was when the Union Station which houses Amtrak and many Bus lines, was still very much under construction. Today stands a beautiful new station that has many ammenities, varied comfortable seating, bars, restaurants, book store, gift shop, upscale hotel and more. Looking at their website, they have many plans in place for increasing the transportation infrastructure for Denver.
Maybe this is a sign of expanded intercity rail transportation and freight service. The new station is absolutely beautiful. With expanded service via Amtrak for intercity travel, people could begin to see rail as an additional option for business travel and personal travel. Having options is key. Keep up the good work Denver!
Each day there is another goofy looking article touting the benefits of networking and the power of the network. Unfortunately it is stil portayed in a bad way. When you here the word networking it usually makes you cringe... It makes you think someone wants something from you. It makes you think of those terrible mixers that you have suffered through in the past. It makes you think of the overbearing person that wont stop the sales pitch.
Networking has been my saving grace on this trip but also just in life. If you honestly network to make friends and help people, you will end up with some wonerful friends that will always be there for you. But never lose focus on helping others and helping them become better in whatever way possible. Caring for others really keeps the network strong. When you need help, they will always catch you.
Within 5 minutes of my last post, I had introductions to 5 different people in the Washington, DC area to meetup with and for a potential place to stay. People really do want to help and it is truly amazing. It will be exciting to get back into the swing of things at the end of this sabatical to really get back to paying it forward and helping more people.
Keep building relationships and dont forget people.
