barbenheimer is such a manufactured meme and so transparent as a marketing ploy (both are wb projects like hello) its so funny ppl are wilfully going along with it… just months back i saw zoomer think pieces about how they don’t fall for marketing schemes from studios and brands

I agree and I don’t think everyone isn’t aware of this. I think a fair amount of people are excited for something that’s monocultural in a way. The Barbie movie itself feels very conscious of the every person…broader internet meme canon/zeitgeist that’s really informed by millennial humor and sensibilities but marketable to gen z through selling itself as this ironic camp thing. It’s very buzzfeed/blue black white gold dress/refinery29/Emma chamberlain while also being very trendforcaster/online cultural criticism/hypebeast adjacent.

In this session, we discussed ' The Next Black' a documentary that narrates unconventional innovative stories about the next evolutions in fashion. Featuring icons such as Studio XO, BioCouture, Adidas and  Patagonia, the documentary addresses several lingering questions of the industry on subjects such as wearable technology and fast fashion.

The film covered pioneers like BioCouture, an agency who incorporates growing fabrics for their designed garments using biomaterial and bacteria. Another example is studio XO  one of the pioneers in designing interactive stage garments for celebrities such as Lady Gaga and Black Eyed Peas.

While watching this documentary I felt it is exactly aligned with our fashion course direction in DIDI. where we are getting prepared for the unavoidable coming shift in the fashion industry, as we the future designers will have to evolve our textiles and technologies of fashion design.

ON TREND: MINIMIAL + CHIC

This is another favorite trend of mine is the combination of dressing minimal, but have it also translate to being chic. This simple look has stayed on trend throughout the last two seasons, and I really don't see it going any where any time soon. The pairing of a simple, basic with a long peak coat, and a  simple sneaker is almost timeless. This minimalistic trend can transition through time and seasons.. I believe that this trend will remain present for a long time.
