My first seasonal playlist of the year has arrived!

Unless you’re new around here, you already know I’ve been curating these remix-driven playlist since I basically started blogging. It’s a true labor of love of mine and I have zero plans to stop making them for all five of you.

The 2019 Dance Winter Playlist is lively and eclectic mix of songs that could really work for any sort of occasion: Gym time, getting ready to rage time, Netflix and chill time, road trip time, crying time, eating your feelings time, etc. There’s a little something for everyone!

As for the Dance Winter Playlist‘s accompanying artwork (displayed above and below), I teamed up once again with my good friend: Matthew Dean Stewart, who is master in tolerating my annoying ass. He is also very talented, an unapologetic theater queen, and most importantly, a true Carly Rae Jepsen “Store” stan. We love and appreciate him very much.

10.000 Maniacs, uma das mais duradouras e influentes bandas da música pop está em tour mundial de divulgação de seu novo disco Playing Favorites. A mais recente turnê do grupo americano virá ao Brasil em 2017, chegando em São Paulo, no dia 01º de junho, no Espaço das Américas, passando pelo Rio de Janeiro, no dia 02 de junho, no Vivo Rio e, por último, em Porto Alegre, noAuditório Araújo Vianna, 03 de junho. O espetáculo faz parte da programação da Top Cat Series, sequência de shows internacionais promovidos pela Top Cat Produções Artísticas. Os ingressos já estão à venda. Playing Favorites foi lançado em junho de 2016. Gravado em Jamestown em frente a uma entusiástica plateia, o álbum reúne uma coleção com 14 clássicos da banda ao vivo. Músicas como These Are Days, Because The Night, Hey Jack Kerouac, Trouble Me, What’s The Matter Here e Like The Weather são interpretadas pela formação atual da banda que tem Mary Ramsey (voz e viola), Jerome Augustyniak (bateria), Dennis Drew (teclados e vocais), Jeff Erickson (guitarra e vocais), Steven Gustafson (baixo) e John Lombardo (guitarra e vocais).

Fundada em 1981, em Jamestown, Nova Iorque, tendo como primeiro nome Still Life, a 10.000 Maniacs ganhou os corações e ouvidos de fãs ao redor do mundo vendendo cerca de 10 milhões de discos. Juntos com outros artistas como R.E.M. e The Replacements, eles ajudaram a definir o chamado “college rock” e a primeira leva de bandas do “rock alternativo” com seu pop consciente, inteligente e estética exuberante.

A primeira formação, ainda como Still Life, tinha Dennis Drew (teclados), Steven Gustafson (baixo), Chet Cardinael (bateria), Robert Buck (guitarra) e Teri Newhouse (vocais). Em seguida, Gustafson convidou Natalie Marchant, então com 17 anos, para assumir os vocais. O nome do grupo veio de um filme de terror de baixo orçamento, chamado Two Thousands Maniacs.

O primeiro show oficial, em setembro de 1981, teve Merchant, Lombardo, Buck, Drew, Gustafson e Tim Edborg. O primeiro hit foi uma regravação de Peace Train, de Cat Stevens. O primeiro álbum completo foi Secrets of I Ching, muito bem recebido pela crítica e que chamou a atenção do DJ John Peel, da BBC Rádio 1, de Londres. My Mother The War, acabou por virar hit no Reino Unido e entrou na parada de singles independentes. A banda excursionou extensivamente durante 1983 e 1984, e fez vários shows no Reino Unido.

O terceiro disco In My Tribe, um registro mais pop-rock orientado, foi lançado em 1987, atingindo as paradas e lá permanecendo por 77 semanas, chegando ao nº 37 e estabelecendo um grande público nos Estados Unidos e com boa recepção também no Reino Unido.  O próximo álbum, Blind Man Zoo, lançado em 1989 chegou a ser o nº 13 nas paradas e ganhou o disco de ouro, aumentando ainda mais a fama do grupo. Em maio de 1989, a revista britânica de música, NME divulgou que eles haviam ganhado o prêmio na categoria compositor no New York Music Awards.

Em 1991, durante as gravações do novo álbum, Merchant revelou aos outros membros que ela sairia do grupo para uma carreira solo no prazo de dois anos. O novo álbum, Our Time in Eden, foi lançado em 1992. Em 1993, a banda tocou no MTV Inaugural Ball para o presidente Clinton em janeiro e para o MTV Unplugged em abril. Merchant anunciou sua saída da banda na MTV em agosto e o álbum MTV Unplugged foi lançado em outubro. Foi o álbum que projetou mundialmente o 10.000 Maniacs e que continha alguns de seus principais sucessos.

No final de 1993 e início de 1994, os membros remanescentes da banda (Augustyniak, Buck, Drew, e Gustafson) chamaram John Lombardo e Mary Ramsey (que haviam formado um duo justamente chamado John & Mary) para se juntar à banda. Renovados, começaram a apresentar material novo quase que imediatamente.

Em 2000, Buck morreu de insuficiência hepática com 42 anos. Após essa perda, a banda deu uma pausa, retornando em 2004. Em 12 de Fevereiro de 2015 a banda voltou ao estúdio para produzir um novo álbum, Twice Told Tales, uma coletânea de canções folclóricas das ilhas britânicas. O álbum foi lançado em abril daquele ano.

A vinda de 10.000 Maniacs é parte do Top Cat Concert Series, um projeto que trará ao Brasil shows e eventos internacionais com música de qualidade, dando ênfase ao jazz, blues e rock de todo mundo, procurando agregar o publico em todas as suas apresentações.

did you know thievuls are thought of quite fondly in spikemuth, and that many spikemuthians have a nickit or thievul as a companion?

its because of how similar we are. how many view spikemuthians as nuisances or criminals, quick to make judgment calls on the people there when the people have done nothing but try to survive.

and it goes back further than when spikemuth became spikemuth, back before the homeless built this city and made it home. many spikemuthians are descendants of the equirexians and kingsmen, two groups of people who were seen as nuisances to the galarians with only one group, the equirexians, surviving to the modern era with their culture and having to be the ones to help the kingsmens culture come back.

but this post is more centered around the kingsmen. did you know, towards the end of the kingsmens time, as the kingsmens lycanroc were being exterminated, they began to bring in thievuls to fill in the gaps? thievuls and the early boltund (a species they bred into existence from lycanroc and manectric i may add) were some of their main partner pkmn towards the end.

that was until the galarians took the boltund and began to breed them into what we now know them as, a pkmn that when used for hunting is primarily used to hunt fox pkmn.

thievuls, a pkmn that once stood proudly by the side of the early boltund, were now thought of as nothing more than nuisances that the boltund were to hunt. they werent desirable, thats why they werent taken in mass and bred to fill some sort of role. no. their role was simply to get out of the way or be hunted.

much like the kingsmen when there was nothing else to take from them. much like the equirexians when there was nothing else to take from them.

much like spikemuthians, and while spikemuthians arent hunted, they werent really helped much either. nuisances.

spikemuthians have much the same history as thievuls. the same kinship. the same connection.

does a thievul look at a boltund and remember? does the boltund remember? or are they just now the hunted and the hunter? no longer companions side by side?

so about the steeds again, injust cant help but wonder stuff like, what types were (are?) they? how were their personalities? were there multiple or just the unique two(?) did they know they were worshipped? (ya dont need to answer all my rhetorical questions here)

i did mention that there are equirexian breeds of rapidash and mudsdale that were bred to look like the steeds yeah!! i should show some photos eventually,,,

anyways!!

its said that spectrier is a ghost type while glastrier is a ice type!! thats why their festivals are themed around spirits and snow!!

glastrier is said to be the more outwardly aggressive of the two. its incredibly powerful and always itching to battle strong opponents. it takes what it wants when it wants too and is very defensive of what it deems as its. the best way i can simplify its personality is strong and sturdy. steadfast.

spectrier is said to be the more quiet of the two, preferring silence and isolation. it is the more mischievous one, eating off the life force of others and messing with them in the night. its also said its kicks can separate a soul from its body so take that as you will. its also known to do as it wants when it wants. there is no true rhyme or reason. the best way i can simplify its personality is swift and fluid. like a flame.

the duo can be considered arrogant and proud too, having been ruling over the crown tundra and attacking anyone who dare enter until calyrex came along and tamed the two with the reigns of unity. and since the two would only serve someone strong enough to beat them they became calyrexs steeds.

and then they began to be worshipped alongside calyrex.

and it is said they do know they are worshipped!! as there are stories (whether myth or truth) that they, alongside calyrex, would sometimes visit different equirexian groups/clans during festivals held in their honor!!

it is also common in modern day to have a small shrine to them in ones home, it doesnt have to be anything fancy just a place for you to sit and light a candle and pray.

i respect them. they saved my region. and they have been doing a lot to help out in the aftermath of the second darkest day alongside champion victor and hop.

they visited spikemuth after the event. i didnt see them but many others did. they help search through the rubble and pulled out those who died and could not be retrieved yet. they helped us. they brought hope back for a lot of people. they brought hope back for a long lost culture that only survived by them and the equirex.

we had missed them even though we hadnt even known they were gone. many had forgotten because they were erased and yet they persisted somehow.

its like a call in your bones. you never forget your kinship. not fully.

the equirexians, the ones who worshipped calyrex and its steeds and were chased down to the crowned tundra to avoid having their culture taken away from them?? and were successful to a degree that they managed to hold out religious texts of the kingsmen and are now helping the kingsmen of today reconnect with their culture after the darkest day???

do you people not have them in your universe?? or were they so thoroughly colonized that people of your time dont know about them???

at no point have i denied science or the like. all that i have said is that i and my fellow followers of calyrex believe we will reincarnate after the trees that guard our graves die.

did i ever tell you guys how the calyxisms afterlife and funeral rights work?

when we die we are either buried under a pre-existing tree or a tree is planted atop our grave. this is for two reasons, one being that it ties us to calyrex and allows us to feed the earth and tree as many forgo being buried in a coffin. the other reason being that the tree is directly tied to our afterlife.

the way our afterlife works is this:

if our tree lives then we stay in the afterlife, when it dies we reincarnate into a new life. its kinda like the seasons in a way. no matter what a new spring comes after winter. a new life comes after death.

this also ties into how we view the seasons as the seasons are the stages of life. spring being "The Young Season", summer being "The Growing Season", autumn being "The Old Season", winter being "The Buried Season".

anyways back onto the afterlife. its this quiet place meant to be a resting spot in between your old and new incarnation. a place to reflect on your previous self and to be with others. the afterlife is believed to be this beautiful valley with sprawling fields and always fresh crops and mountains and fresh springs and a enormous forest. herds of equine pkmn and a large burrow system of rabbit/hare pkmn. its nice there. there are no expectations besides to interact with your community in the afterlife and to reflect on all youve done.

but yeah. reincarnation. 👍.
