My marine biology teacher has been saying that scientists now believe dogs and wolves are the same species because they can produce viable offspring. Am I wrong in saying this is ridiculous and untrue?

It really depends on how you choose to define species, but producing viable offspring is not a valid reason because that would mean there would be only like three species of birds of prey. Maybe four or five tops.
