Women! - I tell you!
At first, we are born and rumoured to open the gates of heaven for our parents, oh what joy they have, raising us as who we ought to be and then soon they are burdened not just with getting the girl married off and to her real home but also worry to ensure that her virtue stays unblemished, that the society finds no need to question it.
Why, as a woman of no matter how independent an upbringing or our own thoughts are, we find it difficult to let the needs of others go. We had no choice in coming to this world, we have no choice in being the gender we are, and then we aren't given a choice as to who we want to be.
We are blamed for atrocities against our kind, we are blamed provoke the society to keep us down. We are bound in shackles heavy as hell but invisible and of no heed to our gender counterparts. The way we dress, the way we speak, who we choose to love and how we choose to leave. Our culture, society, our parents and partners all lay down the unspoken rules of behaviour, sometimes even ourselves. But what choice do we have, if we are too outspoken, we seem to be easy, if we are too modern we seem to be without any virtue, if we are outgoing then someone out there thinks it okay to choose for us a night a brutal behaviour, because of what we did? Victims of crime or simply just our reality we are always blamed. You are a girl aren't you, you have to take care, you have to be this or that.
First, our parents, then our spouses and his parents seem to think they have some unspoken right over us. independent or not, Earning well or not, we are bound by gender roles and no matter how we have been raised, we bind ourselves in those gender roles, taking care of others before ourselves. We feel regret in choosing ourselves or for doing something for ourselves, always trying to be perfect for someone else.
And God forbid you slack, the blame for not adjusting or letting go is also always on you. You blame yourself for everything that went wrong. Don't you!
I don't even have words of wisdom, cause no matter what I say, I am bound by those same shackles some laid down myself to hyper please others and make their lives worth living, no matter the cost. I either am prejudiced about doing things for myself or face prejudice from others around me.
