HK rockers ‘unplugged’ for 2017東區文化節 at Youth Square 青年廣場《藝文青藝術節》(Not sure why this was a 2017 festival when it was held last weekend, but maybe it was a display of last year’s art projects.)

光影 Instinct of Sight 

Yes, we already posted 1 clip from this gig, but this sound is coming at you like a freight train, and Ahpo is in complete control of the crowd: “3, 2, 1, GO!”

ttbert1 posted a recap video of the GDJYB 雞蛋蒸肉餅 album launch from back in December. They sound great, but it’s frustrating to not hear any full songs!  Anyway, the reason I’m sharing this was because this was the show where they said goodbye to their original bassist, Yellow Yi Wong 'YY'.  (and introduced new bass hand Wing Chan)

Skip ahead to 10:15, the girls take a bow after the show, and then each makes a short speech to say farewell to their good friend and bandmate. Really sweet, brought tears to my eyes. (Just from the expressions on their faces, because I don’t understand a word of Cantonese, lol)   =D

UPDATE: ttbert1 just informed me: “Glad that you like this video capture of the very fine moment of GDJYB.Full set shall be coming...stay tuned.”   =D

Their album 23:59 Before Tomorrow is now on sale in CD form

Some great quality a/v was uploaded today over at ttbert1 channel. This is from 蒲窩全港青少年樂隊比賽2017決賽 Hong Kong Youth Bands Competition 2017 at Music Zone@E-Max (Event took place March 19th)

Pono Youth Center (蒲窩青少年中心 Warehouse) has more info and clips.  I think there were student bands competing, and then invited indies bands performed: PHOON, 小紅帽 Silhungmo, and 光影 Instinct of Sight. 

Silhungmo took on a new drummer earlier in 2017, Gould Wu (He is still listed as the drummer for KillerSoap, as well as being a drum teacher) 

吳鶴謙 Jonathan Him was one of the founding members of Silhungmo, I wonder why he left the band. I don’t see any reason given on his fb, or if he has joined another outfit.  There’s an update on his page that he left the band in December, but Silhungmo made an announcement introducing Gould in late February; Silhungmo did some gigs with Anton Fung (tfvsjs) in January.

Epic post-rock instrumental from Hong Kong - let’s check out the band 紙風鈴 Tree Phoning!   =D

They started in 2010, and the current lineup is Moon Yip-Gtr, Jessie Yiu-Violin, Fai Wong-Keys, Kiu Ho-Drums, with supporting member Ka Lok Ying on bass (from the band Topsy-wave - check out the Topsy-wave SoundCloud)

發不出嚮亮聲音的風鈴，其創作和演繹不只追求迴盪於耳邊的音樂符號，樂章內所可能呈現的，是現世一幅幅簡約真摰的音像圖畫，交織著人在塵世和大自然間的各個主題。樂隊音樂風格近似器樂、簡約、後搖滾、即興和另類唯美等的結合，時也寂靜無常輕輕幽���，時也波瀾壯闊大氣磅礡。隨著不同的樂章主題或創作計劃，樂意跟不同的演奏者、媒體藝術家或團體合作，尋找更懂連結內心聲音的可能性。

Tree Phoning's music is not only about the echo of music in ears, but more about the inner-connections between human and nature. GDJYB 雞蛋蒸肉餅 on the newest ep. of Yuran 樂人 Session!  =D

Not sure when this was shot, but the band is coming back to TW this week: “See you guys next week in Ho-Hai-Yan Gong Liao Rock Festival!!!”  (They play day 1 - the 28th.)

Soni Cheng from GDJYB 雞蛋蒸肉餅 and Kaiting 張凱婷 from Elephant Gym 大象體操 are going to play a duet when Elephant Gym play Hidden Agenda on Feb. 18th.  =D

Sweetheart Garden formed in 2018 in Hong Kong

A couple of quirky things about the band: 1. All of their songs seem to have male names (Arne, Hendrik, Ingmar); 2. They have already planned their exit strategy, with two members going abroad later this year. From fb:

“成立於2018年年頭，最初由吉他手Victor，貝斯手阿文和主唱Faye組成，目的是寫一些cheesy pop songs（咦？）。後來找了阿謙擔任鼓手一職，亦因此機緣巧合野生捕捉了第二位吉他手Hammer，並組成了現在的陣容。團員們聽歌都很雜，日系音樂、廣東流行歌、Metal、Rave到Post Rock都有，不過正所謂「食個啲唔一定痾個啲」，總之寫出來的東西五個人都覺得好聽就好。由於兩名成員出國在即，只希望在有限的時間裡繼續做自己喜歡的音樂，好聽好玩開心就好。Peace.”

This was for Neon Lit Music Launch Party at TTN (This Town Needs aka Hidden Agenda). The other bands on the bill were ゲシュタルト乙女 Gestalt Girl (Japan) and Sweetheart Garden (HK) Neon Lit Music seems to be all about promoting shows and bringing bands to HK.  You can see their upcoming events at fb.  =D

Sweetheart Garden have 2 new songs available at bandcamp, and they posted a clip from their set to their YT channel:

“Sweetheart Garden is a Hong Kong indie band that lasts only for a limited period of time, from March to September 2018. Members include Faye (vo.), Victor (gt.), Hammer (gt.), Mann (ba.), and Him (dr.).”

Interesting & beautiful collaboration from the most recent stop on 話梅鹿 Prune Deer’s current tour: 小紅帽 Silhungmo singer 曾善婷 Ashley Tsang and Guzheng artist 許彤 Hui Tung join the band at MOM Livehouse for the song Lichen.   =D
