Gordon told Henry he was too clumsy to grow orchids.

Henry quietly took up the challenge.

Yes, everyone knew when Henry was shunting in the yards. Henry kicked the fire door shut and banged his fist on gauges and seemed to hit every bump and crack on rails that were perfectly smooth for other engines. He bit his nails to the quick, ran oil and soot through his hair and tugged on his already shapeless Fisherman's sweater.

Orchids were notoriously difficult.

BUT- something magical happened when Henry tended to his plants, and Henry was used to dealing with difficult characters.

It was his superpower.

And it always surprised him.
