His skills as a model are obvious and undeniable, but I also gotta point out that even as his following continues to rise above the 5-digit mark, this guy still takes time to stay in touch & respond to my often-random messages. In my experience, this kind of diligent interaction is rare among those with a following of this size. It’s among many of his rare qualities that make him such a gift to the planet. SEVEN YEARS OF BONES It’s actually been a little over 7 years since I first began a longterm interaction with one of my favorite brothers in the creating game, Mr. Steven Hill aka “Bones the Machine” as he’s known across the globe as one of the pioneering practitioners of the Brooklyn-born dance style known as “Bonebreaking” or “Flex” or by his more recent moniker Steven Le’Bone, a persona that encompasses his entire creative output which includes sculptural work (some of which are wearable) and his music. I had done a couple portraits of Bones before he actually reached out to me in 2012 to discuss an “official” collaboration. FALLOU GUEYE! It’s Fashion Week Season and our TuTchTfav bros are busy bouncing around between London, Milan, Paris and New York. If you’ve been around my pages long enough you know that I usually share candids, selfies and backstage shots because they focus on the bros themselves in an industry set up to make the models anonymous and keep the spotlight on the clothes (understandably) and also because the runway shots are EVERYWHERE already. TuTchTMAS AFTERGLOW - FALLOU GUEYE In memespeak, “Lookin at the new decade like.” . Milan-based Senegalese brother Fallou Gueye is one of the top Italian models in the game, of any race or gender. He has long been a favorite of Misters Domenico and Stefano, known globally as founders and designers of the Italian luxury fashion house Dolce & Gabbana. Fallou’s also been a favorite of mine for the full span of his glowing 7-year career. D&G dropped a typically lush, aristocratesque holiday campaign a few days before the holidays which featured our brother, Mr. Gueye seated in front of a wall of classic Renaissance paintings clad in a vibrant red, suit of D&G’s finest sartorial, jacquard-embroidered craftsmanship. In the spirit of the changing of the year & decade, I’ve wiped the classically beautiful past away and placed Fallou (who incidentally shares my date of birth…symbolism not lost on me) in front of a blank, fertile green background. HARRY UZOKA REMEMBRANCE DAY Harry and his “Justanorm” brothers in 2013 —- designed from a behind-the-scenes pic at an editorial shoot by Alexandra Leese for Client Magazine. The Justanorm Collective was made up of half a dozen top male models of color in the UK, these forward-thinking, highly creative brothers set out to change the game. By banding together to package and pitch their collective skills in a “book one, book all” push, they raised the overall exposure of strong male faces of color in the industry. Like Wakanda emerging from the thick fog of invisibility, Harry, Chuck, Dylan, Jamel, Jeremy and Boyd quietly created a powerful tsunamic undercurrent in the industry that contributed to a legitimate change-of-culture. As with so much of Harry’s too-short life, we ALL benefited from the Justanorm efforts. SEVEN YEARS OF BONES I don’t remember if I’m actually the one who introduced Bones to one of my favorite designers Florian Wowretzco or not but I definitely campaigned for a collaboration. When it finally came to pass in 2014 in an editorial for Kaltblut Magazine, the results were even more jaw-dropping than I’d anticipated. There were numerous shots (from brilliant lensman Michael Pandolfe) that emerged from this meeting of creative minds, each one gallery-worthy. THE BROTHERS of FASHIONWEEK SEASON - PORTS1961 Designer Milan Vukmirovic’s hit the nail on the head, as far as I’m concerned, with his ss18 line and Milan show for Ports 1961 Menswear. Diversity was the guiding principle, it incorporated imagery of social justice movements like “Black Lives Matter” and the aesthetics relied heavily on stripes. (a foreshadowing of TuTchT posts to come… those who know, know. lol) As part of the rollout, Ports 1961 put together this very dope video featuring a perfectly diverse cast of models. Many of our TuTchTfav bros appear. (See next post for some names.)
