Merry TuTchTMas! 2 Lords a’leaping… BROOKLYN MACK with FRED ASTAIRE . THIS YEAR’S TuTchTMAS JOINT features the ground-breaking ballet powerhouse Brooklyn Mack (although the aforementioned ground is usually far below this athletic air-dweller.) The culturally-en-pointe-monikered Mr. Mack first appeared on my TuTchT IG timeline during Black History Month after he and Misty Copeland made history as the first Black Female & Male leads to ever dance Swan Lake on a major concert stage. (The Kennedy Center, no less.) That was in 2015 with the Washington Ballet. I’ve been a fan & follower of this brother ever since. He is amazingly down to earth for such a high-flying superstar of the classical dance world. When I was selecting this year’s dancer I knew it was about time my TuTchTmas puppetized tributes finally expanded their reach, up into the high art world where our brothers Brooklyn and Fred could fully embrace the soaring quirkidom of this WTF-ish tradition. . Brooklyn’s storied history includes stints with the Joffrey Ballet, Orlando Ballet, American Ballet Theatre and globe-spanning guest appearances. His current guest residency is with London’s @EnglishNationalBallet where he just blew audiences & critics away as Lankendem in Le Corsaire at the London Coliseum. TuTchTMas AFTERGLOW - MAGOR MENG The ever-striking Mr. Meng can always be counted on to bring home the green, in many senses of the phrase. In case you missed this East Dane campaign, here’s another taste. Their recipe for nostalgic holiday magic with a high-octane flavor: Take one freshly-hewn fir strapped to the roof of a classic car and add the lithe-limbed confident stance of one mister Magor Meng, clad in equally classic attire and POP! you’ve got an pine-scented image as warm, glowing and crackling as a proverbially blazing Yule log. . Magor wasn’t quite as visible this past year as he devoted some focused daddy time to his newly born daughter (who is, of course, an effervescent beauty.) TuTchTMAS AFTERGLOW - 2018THROWBACKS - AYO & TEO “And I heard him exclaim ere he drove out of sight, ‘…but, yo, who danced with Fred?!!’ So just stay tuned, Aite?” . Throwback to last TuTchTmas when Ayo and Teo became the tenth & eleventh puppetized dancers to dance with Fred Astaire, showing him how to properly Hit Dem Holidays. . This has become probably the weirdest of my weird Holiday traditions, So OF COURSE I wouldn’t let the season pass without the twelfth addition to the series. Although, come to think of it, my ultra-bendable calendar dates for the TuTchTmas Season don’t really allow for any manner of dopetitude to “pass” at all. For, you see, TuTchTmas ends not when the proverbial fat lady sings but instead when the dopest dancer-of-the-day puts Fred Astaire through the puppet paces of a few choice moves. . I had a tough choice this year between two of my favorite dancers I REALLY wanted to do both but alas, I refuse to let TuTchTmas creep all the way into Spring so I’ve focused on just one saving the other for next year. TuTchTMAS AFTERGLOW - FALLOU GUEYE In memespeak, “Lookin at the new decade like.” . Milan-based Senegalese brother Fallou Gueye is one of the top Italian models in the game, of any race or gender. He has long been a favorite of Misters Domenico and Stefano, known globally as founders and designers of the Italian luxury fashion house Dolce & Gabbana. Fallou’s also been a favorite of mine for the full span of his glowing 7-year career. TuTchTMAS AFTERGLOW - KOBE HALL This guy’s got me locked in a TuTchTstare. 2019 High School Graduate Kobe Hall produces work via his Mother Agency The Bri’geid Agency that has attracted my eye since day one. Whether in print or on the runways of the fashion world, Kobe’s complexly blended look of steely-eyed determination, all-American boy-next-door charm and melancholy is always on point. He possesses a priceless realness that sometimes escapes high fashion models and yet still has a well-cultivated, well-read timeless quality beyond his years. . I’ve been following Kobe’s career and life journey since last 2018. THE TuTchTMAS AFTERGLOW During the busy holiday season I collect my favorite images that cross my timelines, expecially ones that feature young brothers I highly respect and follow on the daily —- some replete with in-the-moment worldwide shine generated by their talents and skills, and others in the pre-shine, post-shine or in-between-shine state that comes with the ebbs and flows of life for the born-to-be-seen set. . Not one to be bound by traditions, and yet loving the romance of nostalgia, I’ve created my own holiday sharing season —-TuTchTmas —- where I spend some time at the ol’ drawing board, wrapping these images (& a few of my own design too) in a TuTchT holiday aesthetic. The worlds I rummage around in (the worlds of entertainment and modeling) are often irritatingly chained to an arbitrary clock of “seasons” and “of-the-second Public tastes. But powerful images and performances can be timeless whether or not they are lucky enough to land in the proverbial right place, right time. TuTchTMAS AFTERGLOW - BAKARY DIALLO Since everyone’s lives and social media timelines are mad busy during the holidays I began the habit of waiting until after Christmas to post my holiday creations/finds. I call it the season of TuTchTmas, the afterglow of Christmas & the celebration of the changing year. . This is more of a pre-glow than an afterglow since Mr. Diallo is just on the cusp of his forthcoming blaze. I’ve been following this Harlem/Paris/Mali-rooted brother closely for a little over a year now. He first came to my attention thru TuTchTFav photog Jan C. (@bananeck) and Mother Agent/Model Scout extraordinaire Terence at @Bembelepictures. I research led not only to glowing remarks about Bakary’s work ethic & drive but a Wells Fargo/ CBS Ecomedia ad (mini bio) that showed me his incredible potential as an actor. Soon I learned that ".../actor" wasn't just the ubiquitous model tack-on but a serious and primary focus of study in his educational journey. Cameras, especially of the motion-picture variety, LOVE this kid. He’s blessed with a unique magnetic voice/accent/flow & what I call a Truth-transparent face —- which displays his true emotions (or expertly-acted emotions) to the highest degree. His sometimes difficult journey has honed an old-soul vibe, a perfect compliment his wide-smiling youthful exuberance. Bakary's soul glows like embers. With just the tiniest amount of fuel, his life purpose will spark into warming, light-giving flame. Watch. .
