Beer Eleven of my Twelve Beers of Christmas • HooDoo Brewing 3:41 - For the 2021 vintage of this annual release, we brewed a big, bold, slightly smokey Imperial Stout, fermented in steel, then we moved the beer to age in freshly emptied Bourbon barrels from Widow Jane Distillery in Brooklyn, New York. In the barrels, the rich stout breathed into and out of the American oak, pulling with it delicious bourbon character along with wonderful notes of vanilla and charred oak – A decadent treat perfect for sipping near a warm fire. 3:41 clocks is at 11.3% ABV and is delicious now, or can be cellared for ten years or more! • Winter Solstice Sunrise: 10:58am Sunset: 2:39pm Length of day: 3 hours 41 minutes • Winter Solstice is a time of celebration for northern dwellers such as us, and it is yet another great reason to celebrate the good life in Fairbanks, Alaska. Beer Twelve of my Twelve Beers of Christmas - this one is special to me. • Brewed with, and for, Bennie Kendrick ( @kendrick_bbq ). We took his favorite beer of ours, Vanilla Bean Milk Stout, and made it bigger. We also added some Rye Malt, which Bennie smoked over some Cherry and Pecan wood. We finished the beer with some Vanilla BEANs, and Brazilian Coffee BEANs, from Wanderoast (Modesto, CA). Bennie smoked the Rye Malt on his Traeger Grills. Just sayin’. • How I got this beer – working in North California in July, an invite was sent from my friend Bennie Kendrick to join him and his lovely wife Carolyn (Sassy) and family, along with a few friends for July 4th festivities at the Kendrick BBQ Headquarters. Honored to be invited, I quickly accepted. So then Bennie challenges me to bring something Southern to cook for what turned out to be an epic group of IG BBQ influencers. Peaches and okra were found and purchased along with some fun local summer beers. Grilled cinnamon honey peaches and Southern fried okra were my contributions to the Independence Day celebration.
