I ran into a pack of Delena extremists on Twitter.
I think it’s a bad thing for Delena fans to fool themselves into believing certain things about certain Delena scenes. I see comments where shippers are claiming Elena didn’t hate Damon when she did, sexualizing scenes that aren’t meant to be, having Damon fall for Elena much sooner than he actually did, and other things of that nature. When fans do that, they not only invalidate Damon and Elena as characters, they actually diminish the Delena ship. Accepting things as they’re written is what makes Delena such a powerful love story.
You’re not gonna tell me Elena didn’t hate Damon for killing her brother when she most certainly did. It’s the fear he has of her hating him forever that bled on the other side of season two. So you have Damon dying on the other side of snapping Jeremy’s neck. You’re then given the reality of Elena’s character. She’s very much like Damon. She can’t live without Damon or her brother, just as Damon can’t live without Elena or Stefan. She has to flip her switch when Jeremy dies and have Alaric compel her when Damon dies. When Cade forces Damon to choose between Stefan and Elena, he kills himself. He refuses to live without either one.
