03.11.20 - day 85? / the last stretch of revision for quantum mechanics, the final test is tomorrow;; guess how many |kets> cats there are in my notes (spoilers in the tags)
#u3.1#postings#studyblr#physicsblr#late post lol and after the test I counted 22 cat doodles in total on my notes:^)

20.08.20 / TIL some nifty equation (using really specific coefficients or sth idek) is literally called the Magic Formula™ and it’s even set in blackletter on a graph title. The SRIM book from the 80s is really interesting Another highlight of today was getting iced coffee:””) Also spotted a birb eating its lunch through the library window
in terms of progress, we have some more progress:’)) Finally started analysing my lab data and got some points down for the report. Had a go at some E&M to prep for tmr’s consultation as well

10.11.20 - day 92? / banking mostly on the work I’ve been doing throughout this semester.. the last few days were really just too exhausting, could barely get any effective studying done for tomorrow’s 8am final;; banking on previous work, but I don’t remember much from it and I didn’t manage to finish the tutorials either so.. I’m screwed:”) but what’s new?

31.10.20 - day 82? / can’t believe I kinda managed to finish glazing over the remaining of the test content today:”) now on to doing the assignment due tomorrow, then some review/practice on questions and past work, and I guess I’ll be good to go? that’s enough QM for today;;
there are some other loose ends for other modules, guess I’ll work on that. Only 13 days (!?) before the semester ends /screams

29.11.20 / almost done with chapter 3 of 11, this is one of the best self-learning books I’ve encountered;; maybe it’s been easier also because of the bits of prior knowledge I have but o well

05.11.20 - day 87? / one module down, 4 to go! Completed my final submission for the lab module today, I’m so relieved it’s over but I’m truly going to miss lab
other stuff left for the last bit of this semester:
four more zoom lessons
reflection assignment
e&m finals
a short presentation on careers
german finals
and I think that’s it?

27.08.20 / My report writing is still ongoing omg but it’s been a slight relief today seeing my classmates and knowing that all of us kinda struggled with the deadline:”) the Stern-Gerlach machine was under maintenance so I went on to the electronics experiment (nice throwback to the work I used to do in polytechnic;;) The oscilloscope is SO NEW I’ve never used such a NEW oscilloscope before and it’s great
also can we take a moment to appreciate the posters hiding on the wall behind all the components?? I’d get prints of them man they make lab equipment look so aesthetic

09.10.20 - day 60? / realised my assignment is due at 2359 instead of 6pm! Literally just alternating between working on it and doing my lab report today, but I’m so happy about today’s weather

14.09.20 - day 35? / somehow survived today’s 8am zoom test and all the other online lectures? despite the accidental 2 hour nap I’ve barely started studying for my QM and german vocab tests on wed but here I find myself again, with yet another lab report to do:”) on the bright side, after this one’s completed, there’s only two left to do for the semester?

16.11.20 / some old notes from talks I went to in the past (I collect most of them in a notebook)
I can’t believe I managed to post almost everyday this semester, for (?) 96 consecutive days:”) now that it’s more or less over, I guess I won’t be posting as much for the next few weeks. Some reflections/future plans after the break
Reflecting upon this semester, although results are not out yet, I’m glad these things kinda worked for me:
sleeping more regularly (reallY helped with overall wellbeing and ability to function;;; probably had.. less than half an all-nighter)
although not having all-nighters meant asking for deadline extensions, I learnt it’s actually !!okay to ask for extensions;; (afterall, especially after a few semesters, I know my own pace I guess)
clearing lectures more quickly (rather than hogging/accumulating pictures of slides and recordings? still can work on this tho)
using office hours! to clarify doubts! so I can move on and learn more effectively!
less is more: taking less physics mods (like 3, rather than 5), this allowed me to gain more from each rather than scramble to catch up in all of them
I still find that, yes, indeed, I freeze up and don’t absorb much content a few days before an exam. (I suppose this means I should continue putting in consistent effort during the rest of the sem so I have more to “fall back on”?)
! I gotta do my tutorials more diligently (sometimes I get stuck because I’d feel like I need to nail the content before attempting problems, but I guess that’s not optimal for progress during a busy semester. Would have to continue finding a balance between I need to get this content right and hell with it I’ll just whack the problem set first)
So I guess this is for future me to reflect/learn from?
Also, since my exams were so early and I had no finals, I’ve got an extra 3 weeks of winter break:)) plenty of stuff I’m looking forward to this break:
starting discussions about urops/final year project (and perhaps start on urops?)
side job: coaching secondary students for a physics competition
having some time to do more in our science comm/outreach/demonstration “club”/organization thing!
time (and headspace) to learn things I didn’t get to effectively pick up during term time: LaTeX, coding for plotting, so on
hoping to get an interface and figure out how to connect my electric guitar to computers and mess around a little:^)
!! probably gonna update the theme/picture/stuff for this blog:))
general decluttering/brain dumping, at the end of this weird year
for now/for today, I’ll just be doing some light reading for tomorrow. Gonna meet the professors for the first time to kick off discussions about urops/fyp;; shall see if I have any questions/doubts to bring up?
to quote lyrics from The Who, I’ve got a feeling 21 is going to be a good year
but after 2020 I don’t think any of us have any much expectations so;;
anyway, next year/sem (second half of year 3), I’ll be on to start on urops, taking level 4k core modules, working towards finishing A2 German, and before I know it I’ll be in my last year of undergrad:”) time flies and life sucks sometimes but I guess there’s still things to look forward to!
